@Chrack
trust me. its all ok with your GX60
-
@Chrack wat driver version are you using? 13.12?
-
Yes.
1) Sell your GX60
2) Buy a gaming notebook with an actual CPU - like GT70.
or get an A-8 ES and overclock it to 3.7 Ghz... if you can get your hands on one...
On a side note I can comfort you however, that CCC 14.1 BETA will include the Mantle support, so we might see big boost in many games, especially those that are yet to come. -
I`m going to repaste APU and GPU, are there any benefits to change the thermal pads to phobyas or are the stock ones ok to reuse?
-
I think so,
but i let know if it´s a Bug or use the GX60 only PCIe 2.0 x 8
Yep,
13.12 -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
PCI-express 2.0 8x is good enough for any single card.
Heck the fastest notebook in the world uses two cards each on 8x 2.0 buses, I am really confused why people think it makes such a difference on 1 and 2 card systems. -
Hi Guys, I guess it is not worth waiting for Kaveri, CPU cores slower as Richland according to anandtech. When will AMD realize Bulldozer architecture is garbage and need something new, 50% faster cores?
-
Don´t expect a real change until 2016 or so.
Pray Mantle to be a winner -
This tests means nothing. Kaveri has a lower Score because the CPU Cores are underclocked (compared to the predecessor about 400 - 500mhz!!)
Here is a better test: AMD Steamroller: Der A10-7850K im Prozessor-Test [Video-Update]
The CPU performance increased about 12 per cent, meanwhile the apu is 7% more efficient. Keep that in mind.
If AMD released a 45W APU for notebooks, with higher cpu clocks, this would bring a good boost in performance!
Intel CPUs (at least I7) also have 45/47W TDP, so why not release a top model with 45w TDP with higher cpu clocks, and a 35w model with lower cpu clocks??
-
Kaveri performs better at lower TDPs. The 35W mobile version should do much better than the 95W review chips. The 45W part was the most impressive. It beats 100W Richlands.

You need to update the system info to make sure that tesselation was not disabled.
-
lol tessa is enable
and it's safe.
realy stable was 1020/1575 and A8 @ 4.0 on game
that it's my max bench
for information A8 @ 4.0 is totally stable
-
what voltage did you set for it?
-
Hey peeps,
Just wanted to know if some of you tried to upgrade their wireless adapter to an Intel wireless-ac and if everything went well? I just bought the card and it seems that when I plug it in, it says "no network found" and when I switch back to the qualcomm one, everything works fine. Drivers install correctly, Windows recognized it without problem. Any hint? I know that someone previously tried in that same thread and experienced the same trouble I'm facing, but there's nothing more that explain what is hapenning.
Thanks! -
[email protected] => between 1.269 and 1.275 i believe ( i am at work )

hello, im new to modifying laptop, and i'm very cautious on it, but i'm having this curiosity and want to know if there's anything i can do to boost my gx60-4600m, it's been 350+ pages now and don't know where to start.. i'm using windows 8.1, is there anyone can help or guide me?..
thanks
i want to play this most wanted rivals but its so slow.. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You won't get a huge amount more out of it.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Many games are CPU-dependent but GX60 CPU is not that powerful therefore bottlenecking the gameplay performance.
If it's GPU-heavy games then you won't suffer this type of issue. -
hi guy
i will bvench the A8 @ 4.2Ghz realy great ( 3dmark11 4000pts on the combined score )
i try to install the dell 7970m bios on the Msi 7970m:thumbsup:
that ok for the flash, but when i launch a game or a bench the card :
the vcore pass from 0.825 @ 0.900
the frequence from 150 @ 300
how to pass into the 3D mod ?
tk you all -
Thanks for the video, but sadly this man doesnt speak english! I suppose its swedish, that he is speaking.
Anyway, Mantle seems to be a very good technology! Combined with a faster apu (i still hope AMD releases a "high end" mobile chip with 45W TDP and higher cpu clocks!
Where do people get the A8 eng samples from? (ebay?) And how much were these samples? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Prices will vary as they were never actually sold.
-
I am aware that GX60 cant handle 45TDP CPU
-
I really regretted buying GX60.. I really cant play most of my games smoothly with this thing. Well everybody make mistakes tho.. I thought this machine could go far than I expected. But nvm, I already bought a PS4.. So I got that going for me, which is nice
And now I only use my laptop for assignments/dota 2/movies
-
The laptop CPU that carries the video I think is a A10- 5750m 4 cores and the gpu is the M290x
-
HI All,
Have any one tried these drivers?
AMD Catalyst 13.30 BETA (13.300.0.0 January 8) -
Yes, i already thought that. The same APU, a rebranded GPU with a little higher clocks. Nothing you might need.
I wonder if MSI was able to offer a oc button function, like they had in their old msi gx600 series, that overclocked the cpu.
A 400mhz boost in the cpu clock should make a significant difference in fps while playing cpu relying games.
So far, the new MSI GX70 is not worth any more money then the "old" gx 60 or gx 70 with A10 5750M and HD 8970M, or oven A10 5750M with HD 7970M!
Maybe the mobile kaveris will be true Quadcores (or Triplecores) , instead of Dual Cores with 4 threads/modules like now.
Whatever, every additional CPU performance is nice
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
R9 M290X is 8970M renamed.
CPU is still the same thing from last year so if you want to gain higher performance system then buy Intel system instead. -
Well to start I haven't read a heap of the last few pages but I have been researching problems etc for this laptop in other parts of the thread.
Anyways I have a GX60 3BE, 5750m processor and 8970m graphics.
The whole argument the cpu limits the gpu is silly as its entirely game dependant, eg I drop physics on some games like metro last light but otherwise it runs anno 2050, borderlands 2, hitman absolution etc on almost max graphics/maxed.
I tried cpu locking after running intelburntest and noticing the processor drops back to 2.5ghz even with it staying cool (turbofan on). Noticed slightly quicker test and 3.2ghz stable clock (not jumping up and down), but much higher temps, even with turbofan on.
Been playing metro ll maxed with and without cpu locking without much noticeable difference in frame rate, so long as advanced PhysX is off (obviously being amd), but I have had temps up to 100*c gpu and 90 odd cpu, dropping back around 8-10*c with turbofan on.
Anno seems more gpu intensive maxed out with temps of 90 odd gpu and 75ish cpu, no turbofan.
I mostly look at temps now because I can easily alt-tab out of a game into speedfan and see what its doing, haven't been bothered logging yet.
Anyway the point is most games seem to hit the gpu harder than cpu, and those that are cpu bottlenecked are because of poor optimisation and not utilising the cpu's capacity (or temps would be higher).
So yeah I may be completely off with this idea but it seems to make sense, though sadly I think it needs better cooling either way -
Yeah, most games mainly need gpu power, so the gx series is offering nice gaming performance at an affordable price.
The problems are games like gw2, GTA IV, AC IV (bad performance for amd gpus aswell), starcraft II, and more.
Because of the CPU bottleneck, reducing the details in these games bareley makes a difference!
Fixing the Clocks to 3.2 ghz or sth like that improves the situation, but there is still a lack of cpu performance, that can only be fixed by using a es apu, that is overclocked very heavily
The GX series are definitely a good buy, better then any notebook with I5 with GTX 660M, 760M or 765M,...
The main idea of this notebook - offering good gaming performance for a good price - is fullfilled, but because of the apu, the GX series sadly are not competing with High End Gaming Laptops using Intel CPUs (even an I5 is faster). This "problem" can only be fixed by AMD. -
I play ac4 fairly smooth, just kill shadow quality, volumetric fog and aa. Resolution 1280x720 otherwise everything is too small to read, high environment, texture and god rays and reflection on normal. At first it was running crap but just play with settings, theres usually a sweet spot with most demanding games.
Forgot to mention I got extra ram, why I don't know but 80 bucks for another 8gig was hard to turn down haha
I got really worried after I ordered the laptop and started reading more threads about it to find a heap of unhappy people with "severe cpu bottleneck" problems, but after using it for a good month solid I cant fault it.
If a game doesn't run properly go for settings first then worry about tweaking the system itself with cpu lock/overclock etc. -
I saw this nice test of the Kaveri APUs, compared at 45W TDP (richland vs. kaveri)
Performance-Vergleich Kaveri vs. Richland auf jeweils 45W TDP | 3DCenter.org
Very imrpessive, 20% more cpu performance, 30% more gpu performance!
Maybe the next apus will be a huge improvement!
-
not really. something as bad as buldozer is hard to achieve.
-
IMO AMD is more devoted to improvements in the iGPU departament when it comes to the APU since the iGPU improves more with each generation than actual processing power of the CPU...
Witch is yet an another reason for MSi to quit using AMD's APU's in their gaming series, because we don't need more iGPU power, but more CPU power witch new APUs fail to deliver... -
Well there is always GT, GE or GP models with intel gear, but they cost more especially if you want a decent gpu in them. I was considering an intel based laptop but would have paid another 600 odd more to get one with a gpu as powerful as the 8970m.
Sure it would be great if they had an intel cpu and amd gpu but there is a reason they used amd, cheap performance -
If AMD can realize 15% more CPU Power and maybe 20% more gpu power in their next mobile kaveris, there is no need for msi to stop the gx series!
The A10 APU is no "real" Quadcore, its more comparable to a dual core. So if AMD released a real Quadcore (8Modules, like the fx 8350) or improved the clock rates significantly (maybe 20% more ipc), AMD APUs would be able to become a good deal.
The main problem is, that the APUs are 35W TDP only (why? - Nearly all Intel i7 also have 47W, the extreme I7s even have 57W!) - Use 45W for higher clock rates and more cores!
Hope is still alive, that AMDs APUs will be able to catch up with the I5 CPUs at least, the I7 CPUs cant be reached unless AMD doesnt increase the number of modules! -
AMD's vision is in HSA...ie cpu and igpu do the physics calculation, dgpu does the rendering, hence, they use the name 8 + 4 compute cores, ...the improvement mainly came from the igpu...
However, it remain to be seen if they can persuade more people to code for HSA...but with major consoles using AMD chip, they might just be able to pull it off with HSA and Mantle..Most reviews on desktop kaveri have been cautiously positive so far...huge potential if they can persuade people to adopt HSA... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Mostly they need the floating point performance from the GPU core.
-
Wonder when mobile Kaveri is due for release. A new GX revision wouldn't be to far behind it. Hope we don't have to wait until March or later.
-
we will. I suppose it will be at holiday. The mobile Kaveri release probably will be paired with kaveri GX. That would be a good marketing step. Fastest AMD based laptop with rather weak CPU - the way for sale.
-
Until Kaveri comes out, MSI is going to release in Februar a "new" GX revision. It is the same *hit with a different name though. Take a look: MSI Global – News
-
I was tempted to order the GX60 with the 8970M GPU but thought better of it because I mostly play Starcraft 2. What do you guys think of running Starcraft 2 on the GX60? Did I make a mistake by choosing the much more expensive GT60-2OD?
-
Witch is why MSi is full of **** IMO, since they want to rename this botched design, so that newcomers don't recognize it easily with GX60 and GX70 and fall for the trap.
GX "Destroyer" my **s...
It's more like "Destroyer of (gamer's) dreams"Arioch likes this. -
If you want to heavily game in SC II, then definitely stay away from GX, since A-10 APU is too weak to cope with late game moments when there is lot of commotion on the screen.
Go for i5/i7 + 765m or i5/i7 + 7870m (or something equivalent), it will give you much better balance for SC II. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You didn't, SC2 requires more power from the CPU side than GPU so even though GX60 itself is cheaper with such great GPU but many times its performance is bottlenecked by the CPU in some games. -
Now i have the answer directly from MSI.
The AMD Chip can only work with PCI-e 2.0 x8
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes it's a chipset limitation which is why I keep saying it's normal.
8x 2.0 is the maximum number of lanes to the graphics. This is done to save power and make trace routing easier. There is no performance benefit from making it faster or wider so why waste the power and cost? -
thanks Meaker for explaination. I'm glad to learn something
