    Hey Guys,

So I guess I was the guinea pig, Installed 14.6 Beta drivers and tested mantle out with BF4

Online, Same server, 64 players, Most settings around medium
    Dx 11 FPS 50-75
    Mantle FPS 30-35

Offline Set scene with some gameplay, everything set to Ultra
    Dx 11 FPS 50
    Mantle FPS 30-35 + stutters

This is based on only a couple hours testing..
Hopefully it's because the 7970m isn't fully supported/optimized but if this is all we're going to get from Mantle I am veeeery disappointed.

I'm running Windows 8.1, testing was done with four cores locked to 3.2Ghz with Bar edit.
In all tests CPU usage across all four cores was 100% right throughout so I think the bottleneck is still very much there...

Looking forward to hearing how everyone else goes with it!

Hello, to work well you have to format the laptop and install battlefield 4 for well functioning mantle and game settings
use medium textures and everything else medium-high, spends more VDRAM mantle that DirectX11

Hey on the gx70 3be website there is new firmware for the 8970m (VBIOS)
I know I should install it
When I created the bootable usb and on the windows boot option I checked uefi boot usb as 1st option as the priority in the boot order
However when I reseted the bios to apply this setting the steps that should come up don't as in the document http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/VBIOS_Update_under_DOS_mode_EN.pdf, I think its the step that says 'extract the zip file containing the V-BIOS file and flash utility to a bootable usb flash drive' where I messed up
I don't know what to do know as I don't know what file to put in the usb

I would like to do upgreade windows to version 8.1. However, I read that after uploading the patch recovery partition stops working . Can anyone confirm or deny? And - if the problem really exists - whether it is possible to easily put the sytem from recovery discs which I previously recorded?

Yes, the F3 hotkey will stop functioning but you can still perform recovery from within the OS, see below.
    Reset from within the OS

hi guys I am a little unsure if I should buy the gx60 because a lot of people are talking about the cpu bottlenecking the gpu. I have found a machine with an I7 4700MQ and a nvidia gtx860m of course it costs a little more but would it be worth the exstra money. Or is the gx60 good enough to handle games like the gtx860m. I don't mind a little drop in fps but it should at least be 30fps on high. I would really like to hear your opinion on this :).

In my opinion, 860m and Intel will be much , much more balanced. There is no chance to have 30 fps in all games on GX60. Even when you set less details than high .

Stupid **** notebook. Got 8970M version and mantle was only thing that could help this piece of crap, but it works even worse than direct, spiking like hell, tryed all settings, multiplayer unplayable on direct and on mantle also, money for this laptop and BF are throwed from window, Yay we got super uber first class GPU but its ******* useless when almost every game that can use it needs better CPU so in result it works even worse than any other half priced laptop. My last MSI product ever.

Man i am sorry to hear that is it really that bad? With so much negative reviews against the gx60 i think i am going to buy a laptop with an i7 and gtx860m. Well thanks for sharing your experience and it really sucks that the laptop has such a weak processor that bottlenecks the gpu.

Not only weak processor is guilty in my opinion. Look at the Clevo 150em (7970 + Intel CI7) and problems with enduro. But the fact is that the GX60 is not a good choice for most players

So you are basically you are saying that you should stay away from AMD systems since they have more problems? I have heard alot about amd drivers not working as intended and even having problems installing the driver.

I would stay away from the GX60 . It is way to slow to play demanding games . I even bought a engineering sample chip and OCed to 3.6 . It did make a slight difference but not enough . I got so aggravated that I bought a Clevo P151em with a I7-3720qm and a HD8970m to replace it . Having a Intel chip really wakes up the GPU . Just a few examples GTA IV Intel never drops below 30 fps AMD I have seen low teens . The Intel setting are all high and 50s on the sliders AMD medium and 20s on the sliders . Saints Row 3&4 maxed Intel never dips below 30 fps AMD again in the teens(stock chip and ES chip) . Codemaster F1 games Ultra 4x MSAA average 40 min 29 AMD , Intel average 60 min 45 . Difference with the F1 games with the AMD I never saw the fps go above 45 , Intel climbed up into the 80 fps . The other thing I noticed is that the GPU usage is usually 99% with Intel and 75-80% or worse with the AMD . And what is really bad Is the Intel setup is faster running on the battery and only clocking to 1700mhz

I would not stay away from a AMD gpu with a Intel cpu.( I have a Xfire setup in my desktop) Is enduro perfect no but it not that bad either . Most games fire right up with the right gpu . I would stay away from a AMD cpu both desktop and moblie in all but a basic email , office machine . Sorry to any AMD fans but this laptop really soured me on AMD cpus . I would really need to see AMD kick the crap out of Intel in more than a few benchmarks .

OK people, not hear to get preached at how much this computer sucks or how much better of I'd be doing X, Y, or Z. I've used this computer since launch and I've been (for the most part) very happy with it. I'm not quite ready to upgrade computers yet, so I figured I'd try to squeeze the last bit out of this thing for another year or so.

With that in mind, this is basically a stock 1-AC model with an upgrade to an SSD main drive. I've not done any over-clocking to date but I want to sit down and learn how. As a somewhat amateur over-clocker (that wants to step outside of that) what are the best utilities and such to take me to the next level?

As to hardware, since the GPU isn't really an issue here, what are the best practical steps to address the CPU problem (please don't waste my f'ing time with "get an i7"). I know there are few upgrade options from the 4600m that I might consider. Certainly there are a lot of opinions on the subject, and I'm open to suggestions on what the most effective upgrade might be.

Also in my sights is memory, I've heard that AMD CPU's can benefit quite a bit with good memory timings. I have the stock 8gb memory that came with it back in the day, is there anything that can be done on this front to improve performance?

How much $ would you like for that A-8 ES?
Is it a good one, that can reach stable 3,7Ghz on all cores?
Have you tested it? With Prime95?

As a matter of fact I start to see the dusk of the GX series. Battlefield Hardline, even on Mantle, lags like hell on GX.

we still need to wait for mantle improvements. the API sux as hell. Its better to play at DX even with lower fps while its more stable.
The hardline works for me on mantle with ultra settings at ~60+ fps but suddenly drop to 5 fps every 5-10 seconds.
Anyway I am choosing low settings on DX to play at stable 30 fps. Pathetic ;p
    Bririant! :0

Mullrof could you help me with trouble shooting why my BF4 (not hardline) Mantle runs compared to yours?
I've got the 7970m, 5750m (3.2Ghz locked) and in Mantle BF4 Multiplayer I get no higher than 24-30fps Same on Ultra or low.
    While on Dx11 I get 40 fps Ultra, 50-60 on med/low.
I'm running 14.6 beta mobility drivers on windows 8.1.

Is there anything I need to do to get mantle functioning properly?
    Starswarm on high I got
    Mantle average fps = 37.65
    Dx10 Average fps = 17.22

So is it my computer, drivers or just bf4 that's not liking BF4 mantle at the moment in your opinion?

Thanks, any input would be appreciated

A gaming notebook, that forces you to "carefully" pick games you want to play is NOT a gaming notebook.

MSi misleads customers with GX series, it should be taken off the gaming section.

GX60 offers a tremendous value for its class and performance compared to Intel-based products.
When it was released, it was positioned right in between Intel NBs with a 675MX and 770M. It cost $1300 while 675MX SKU cost $1700 and 770M cost $1400 with DVDRW, and next level of 770M cost $1600 with BR burner.
Moreover, the majority of reviews on Newegg had indicated that the owners loved their GX60 as well as GX70.

well, I dont think I can rly help you. All I did was just switching graphic api and then I realize it boosts fps. The reason I have it could be I keep my OS quite clear. I
every 2-3 months. Another reason could be version of OS. I have win7.

@Mantle users : please keep in mind that the extra CPU calculation sended to dGPU uses a lot more GDDR, and HD7970M only got 2 gigs of ram. Stuttering can occur when GPU memory is full.

You have to pick carefully for most gaming notebook. Resolution, CPU speed, GPU performance, heat, weight, price... these are all factors you must consider when making a decision.

When I initially saw your posts I hated buying a GX60. Then I started to use it more and I started to like it more.

At the price range the sytem was a better bang for the buck than intel/nvidia. Developers will still use x87 and other old technologies killing CPU performance. I don't blame AMD/MSI for that. I found turning off extras fixed performance. For example: in SC2 I don't care about flowing grass when most of my attention is on the battle. So I turned it off and watch my performance soar.

Hi guys I recently bought a GX60 with A10-5750M with 8650G and an R9 M290X, or rather 8970M. As I have downloded a GPU-Z and I saw there "crossfire available" I don't see any option to activate crossfire in my AMD CCC. I already updated my VBIOS, mg graphics card drivers, and installed new AMD drivers. , is it possible to enable crossfire for my 8970M and 8650G?

I also don't hate GX, I just think it is not a gaming notebook, but rather a rare example of good multimedia notebook with unusually strong GPU that does not play the major card in games as it should.
I am also VERY interested in seeing how a Kaveri APU + top tier GPU combination will work out, maybe this will mitigate the bottleneck to the point where the lack of latter 20% of GPU utilizatization on the GPU will simply not matter due to already comfortable FPS in games.

I think you misunderstood. I had said I started to hate the GX60 :p but now I love it.

Personally, I think it's a great gaming laptop. After locking the CPU to not drop to lower clocks, gaming has been pretty smooth for me. I do turn down eye candy a little bit in poorly/anciently coded games though.

Hi to all, im planning on getting a brand new MSI gx60, the 3cc version that carries a A-10 5750m and a R9 m290x, first of all i was very concerned on buying this computer, but after researching a bit on this lounge, im too scared to buy it because i have readed a lot of things of OC or changing the cpu to the A8,
i will mostly play Leauge of Legends and games like BF3 or Watch dogs, at least on High/Ultra, so its worth it buying this computer and locking it on 3,2ghz?
or should i watch for another one?

Stay away from GX - it's CPU will kill your dreams in MMO and sandbox games...

Try to get a i7 Haswell + 760m or better combo.
