After looking for some pages, i found this MSI GE60 2PC-213XES i5-4200H/4GB/750GB/GTX860M/15.6", i cost just the exact same as the Gx60, and i heard good coments about the CPU, but heard that the GPU is a bit weak
    is this one right?

Edit: Nevermind, CPU and GPU over 80ºC,

Actually this seems to be a great deal.

Intel Core i5-4200H is faster by about 45% than the best mobile AMD CPU so far, so it outperforms A-10 5750m with no problem. And this is the only big problem with GX - the CPU is just insanely weak for gaming purposes.

860m is on a new Maxwell chip, it is getting positive remarks for good performance.

4 GB RAM will be enough for starters, but you can upgrade to 2x4 GB in the future with no problem.
FHD matte display + backlit keyboard.

IMO this is a good deal and overall is a much more balanced hardware combo, than GX series.

My take on it -> get that GE60.

*GPU temp in GX reaches 85'C or more easily...
*CPU temp is around 72' C.

I'm owner of GE 60 I7. It's pretty warm, but nothing you can't solve using a good cooler pad and apply some settings to avoid turbo of intel cpu. It just below 73ºc.

I have not test GX, but it was one of my options when I bought mi ge, but I chose ge because of bottleneck od GX CPU.

Depending on the game you want to play the GX60 will be slower, faster about even.If you get a GX60, lock the CPU at 3.2Ghz if you are going to play games or else get ready for frame drops.

    Personally, I have a GX60 (5750M+7970M) and a W230SS (2.8Ghz, 16GB RAM, 240GB mSata). I currently use the GX60 for gaming and the W230SS for VMWARE (yes ESXi installs on it :p)

    CCC is set to default.

Starcraft 2 - Although written with x87. Game runs smoothly with highest settings. Unless you have a mass battle with 8 players. In that case turn down flowing grass (which isn't noticeable in battles) and shadows.

Skyrim - Plays fine, nothing to worry about even though it's written in x87.

MGT - Duel of the Plainswalkers 2013/2014 - This runs smoothly on anything.

CS:GO - Runs fine no matter settings.

Guild Wars 2 - WvWvW is unbearably painful (teens fps) even with a 4.5Ghz i7+780 Ti. The GX60 is fine for PVE and small/medium scale PVP even at max settings. I'd highly recommend turning down some of the settings (ie shadows etc) for better play though.Forget mass WvWvW on any machine so the GX60 is no different.

Farcry 3: Runs fine in PVE. Didn't play much PVP so I can't really comment on that.

If you have the extra money buy a Intel equipped laptop . I bought a barebones Clevo P151em with a HD8970m . It plays everything better than the GX60. I also have a ES chip OCed to 3.6ghz. I leave the i7 (ivy) at stock clocks 2.6 it handily beats the AMD chip . If using throttle stop and locking it to 3.3 even more so. No more dipping in the teens even with the lowest settings . I am also having no problems playing the latest games , Watch Dogs , Wolfenstein ,etc.. The GX60 is a nice laptop , love the keyboard and LCD , it is just not a gaming laptop .

If trying to maximise value look at the barebone versions of the gt series and consider the 17 inch with the M290x.

I was trying to search a good computer for about 900€, that it's about 1200$, but the GE i7 version is for about 1360$ and the 17 inc version is even more expensive, so i can't afford that, still the GE60 i5 version is very good and i think i will be able to play bf3 on High, as i said im mostly going to play games like Watch Dogs, Gta or Battlefield, still nothing about MMORPG, i hate those.
And the GE 60 version has the same Steelseries retroiluminated Keyboard, but it's a bit more simple, and smaller

    Alienware.

Don't bother considering GX60, if Alienware with i7 is an option.

hey guys, after researching in the web i found another msi cx61, which has a i7 4712MQ (2,3 Ghz) (Hyper-Threading abled), paired with a GT820m 2Gb, is this a better option than the GE60 i posted earlier?.
Since this one is 200$ cheaper, or should i keep on the GE60?
    Pros:
    1080p Screen
    8 Gb Ram
    Low temperatures
    1TB
    Cons:
    HDD (5400RPM)

    I have seen another computer too, it's a Toshiba P50 A-14
    it has a i7 4700MQ
and a GT 745m that i think it's stronger than the 820m, but since i readed it has a internal battery, my ideas about it has been destroyed
Edit: HOLY F**K, that graphic card it's a 4Gb Card, i didn't realiced, i think that a really good point

The amount of VRAM wont really impact performance, choose the chip that's fastest. The 820M is very low end, and the GE series will give much better gaming performance. The GP are targeted at those that need good CPU performance and a multimedia type machine.

you think that computer will perform like the i5 4200h and gtx 860m?

Actually, EVERY computer is better than mine, AMD turion x2 2,2Ghz And a Raedon HD 4200, which has been burned... twice...

The 860M will be 2-3 times faster than the 840M typically due to higher clocks, bandwidth and unit count.

The 840M is a capable entry level chip. The 860M is just really good.

Great CPU, but the GPU is an average player - while it's not total low-end it is far away from the best GPUs.

    Thanks in advance :hi2:

From what I have seen so far, the APU/CPU is upgradeable, but the A10 5750M is the fastest APU on the market.

    I thougt about getting the GX 60 Destroyer (A10 5750M, R9 M290x, 2x4GB Ram, 750GB 7200RPM HDD) for about 670€.
I know that the A10 APU is not the fastest, and I´m not sure whether the GX60 is a good buy for me.
I plan on using this Laptop as a gaming laptop, I dont need to put everything on the highest settings.
I´m playing GW2 quite much, and it would really help me if you could tell me about the GX60/70 performing in GW2.
(WvW even kills my current Desktop with I7 2600k, HD 7950) but what about normal PVE and what about bigger boss fights like the shatterer, tequatl, jormag).
Did you experience serious performance problems in other games except GW2?
Thank you in advance for your answer

Now is a bad idea to buy GX, Kaveri APUs are coming soon, so I would wait for Kaveri variant of GX, because any additional ounce of CPU performance is a nice boost overall.

Yes it can, I have played it, but don't expect all the settings to be maxed out, I suggest putting everything as low as possible, and turn things on/off based on performance hit, and try and stay around 30fps or higher. I get 32-43fps at all times, but I'm not able to go look at my Unturned settings at the moment, but most of them were on/high.

Playing GW2 with a GX60 is disapointing... it is umplayable (12-13 fps) in some zones with a lot of player (even with poor graphic settings)
Total War: rome 2 is unplyable too

But... Recent games like Eleder Scroll Oline runs prefectly (thanks to PS4 and XBO).

even if i m satified of my GX60 (with 16 Gb of RAM, a SSD and a unlock bios)
If you are playing GW2 a lot... dont buy this laptop.

Guild Wars 2 doesn't break 20fps with a 5GHZ OC i7 and a 780 Ti SLI during mass WvWvW. Nothing is going to help for that game unless you steal a processor of Kirk's Enterprise.

I've played the game on my GX60 and it's playable but you have to lock your CPU at 3.2 Ghz for good performance. In small scale and medium scale PVP/PVE you'll be fine. My i7 4810MQ on a 860M is a definitely a better experience in this game though. I generally play with max quality other than AA. Turning down shadows/armor reflection also helps a lot.

    Dear Friends

First of all I would like to say hello to everybody, it's my first post here! :)

    Question 1

I own notebook MSI GX60 3BE with AMD A10-5750M and Radeon HD 8970M. When I had Windows 7, I have used AMD PSCheck to force my CPU to don't work below 3.2GHz. Now I have got Windows 8.1, but as far as I know AMD PSCheck doesn't work with this OS?

Is it true? Is it safe to use PSCheck with Windows 8.1?

If not, do you know any method/application to force CPU to work/lock at 3.2GHz under Windows 8.1?

Windows Power Scheme with High Performance profile method doesn't force CPU to work all the time 3.2GHz, it's more flexible, because it sometimes drops under 3.2GHz, which is visible as performance drop in games.

    Question 2

MSI System Control Manager (SCM) whenever it launches it reverts to Balanced power plan. I have created my custom power plan, which I would like to start with Windows 8.1, but still I would like to use SCM. Is there any possibility to force/set SCM to not change my power plan during loading?

    Thank you in advance.

    EDIT

    Question 1

I have installed PSCheck 3.4.1.0277 under Windows 8.1 and it's working without any problems, I have locked my CPU A10-5750M to 3.2GHz.
It's important to change power plan to High Performance before locking to 3.2GHz.

    Hi all,

Considering getting the GX60 Destroyer from Xotic where it seems to be on sale right now, and the one I've got for about the same price (and an extra year of warranty) is a Sager with the i7-4700mq and a GT 840m.

I've been having trouble deciding which to get since the i7 is a much faster CPU than the A10, but on the other hand, the 290X outclasses the 840m (from what I've been able to gather).

Is that stronger GPU worth giving up on the GX60? The MSI does have a few extra perks like the backlit keyboard, and a pair of headphones, and seemingly looks more established than Sager for support.

I do game moderately, and don't really max out settings (my current combo is an old quad core i7 with a 635m) and I'm satisfied with how things look with it. Still, the MSI is very tempting.

    Any advice is appreciated.

A-10 5750m is almost 3x weaker than i7... now imagine CPU demanding games on A-10 5750m...

On the other hand it is true that GX60 has a lot of fancy additions and 290X is an uber-GPU.

All-in-all, GX will be better for gaming, than i7 + 840m for gaming, as the bottlenecks on 290X in GX60 go no lower than 660m/750m + i7.

If you like to edit movies/convert stuff on your machine, then sadly i7 +840m will be better for that purpose.

The trick is finding out which games are CPU intensive vs GPU intensive... I don't do much converting for it to be a factor (and I don't think that'll go up).
You can see where the hesitation lies :) Especially since I cant' predict what I'll be playing in the future much.

I did play GW2 (though I've stopped for a little bit) and that's definitely on the CPU side...

Outside of that, how is support and post-2 year reliability for MSI in general? That is another important factor. I've had conflicting reports about Sager support.

The GX60 is nice machine . I really like the keyboard and monitor , do not like the cooling needs two fans.I needed to find a ES chip and give it a healthy OC to make games playable . And now it sounds like I game with a hair dryer on . If you care at all about FPS get a machine with a i7 in it . Because even with a OC some games still play like crap . And I am 500mhz faster than a locked a10-5750m .

Here are two of my better 3d Mark 11 scores one is a A8 the other a i7 .

Don't care about FPS too much, I'm fine gaming around 22-25 typically, but the appeal of the high end GPU is being able to do so with much more detail and smoothness.

The GX60 also has the full SS keyboard, comes with a free pair of SS headphones and games as a promo, and is generally optimized to game... I had heard it did cool easily and had a button to blast the fans, so that's interesting to hear that it's that loud. My main issue right now is overheating making my current laptop freeze, so I'm sensitive to that.

As it is, it's now between this and a Y410p, since I found out those can be had for a nuce chunk of change less than I would spend on the MSI...

Well mine is loud because of how far overclocked it is on both the GPU and CPU . If you run it at stock settings it is not bad . But does get loud when blasting the fan ., compared to the clevo which has two fans and is quiet even when pushed.

I am considering buying the GX70 in my country, Brazil, the price of gamers notebooks are impractical here, but this GX70 with a fair price!

Has anyone managed to unlock the BIOS GX70? It seems that it is possible to turn off and lock the iGPU clock at 3.2GHz, thus gaining a considerable performance.

Instead of toying with the BIOS it's better to try to get an ES version of either A-8 5550m or A-10 5750m, both of these can be overclocked to get around 30% more performance, than a standard A-10 5750m.

Long story short -> a GX60-1AC (the first model of the series) with a A-8 ES/A-10 ES is better, than the newest GX Destroyer witch has a flimsy A-10 5750m with blocked OC and holds that 290X back by 50%.

Of course the ES version will also fit in GX70 series model.

Yes it is , I bought mine August 2013. The last one I have seen for sale was back in June 2014. I would imagine the people that own one will use them until the laptop is not worth using anymore .

    Witch ES to hunt for?

A-8 ES 5550m or A-10 5750m ES? Benchmarks say for the former, common sense and CPU's digits for the latter...

I think I'm gonna trash my A-10 4600m and finally upgrade it and get a great machine geared towards future Mantle games.

    Mostly RPG/FPS games.

I will also play games with Mantle support for sure - like next Mass Effect and DA:I.
Also Far Cry 4 and (I know I'm crazy) GTA V.

Nice, but 145 Euro for that A-8 ES is rather steep.

I can get it 50% cheaper, but I still ponder A-10 ES or A-8 ES...

PS. You really took that poor GX apart :D must have been GX body pieces everywhere when you picked your tools and finished that machine off... :D

I guess he sold it as an IGP only setup with nice battery life, keyboard and screen with the original chip for cheap.

I have both, and I opted for a-10, at least in my hitman gx edition, and overdrive amd is taken well, I think that with less lag and smoother movimentos (wolftein fullhd and high graphics), yield 3 , 5ghz with four cores running, and I've had more, but enough time
f1 2013 full activate sync average of 45-50 fts.
By the way I will put on sale the A-8 on ebay, for which interested
