Hello people !
First of all don't blame me for my english please, I'm french and I need your help badly !
Just like some of you guys on the prvious page, I can't change the brightness level when drivers beta 8 or 11 installed, but i'll deal with it. However, I have a bigger problem than the brightness one with these same drivers.
When i right click on my desktop, the "graphics properties" tab opens itself with no probs, but I can't access the "I don't know how you call it in english" part where you choose which application will be o high performance or energy saving.
Everytime I click on it it just makes the whole pannel to crash and restart.
Since the only problem you talked about as about the brightness, I suppose you're not having my second issue. Has somebody any idea of what i could do to make this work?
Thanks in advance !

The English isn't big deal if we understand you...
I'm Hungarian on an exchange student year in U.S. right now
I think you should reinstall the driver, probably it helps, and download the enduro, and yes if you want to change brightness you don't want to download the beta versions, but you lose extra power.
My choose is the extra power, and my brightness is stuck on max -
Is that it ? AMD CATALYST
This was last updated the 14th of november, so no beta 11 for me ?
What would be the difference with these ? AMD Catalyst
I don't mind if the brightness is stuck, the ideal would be beta 11 with the application switchable graphics working. -
Yeah, what's up with the "switchable graphics" NOT working in ANY of the Catalyst 12.11 versions?
The only driver, that has this operational is the official MSi driver, but that one misses all the perfromance boosting features of the 12.11 from AMD.
Is AMD going to fix this (look at this fool hoping) or we are deprived of this feature for long time to come?
-
Sorry about you having the same problem as me, but I'm glad i'm not the only one ^^.
And thanks cause I think you're the guy who posted severl videos of games running with gx60 on youtube, if so, you helped me to make my choice.
What's the difference between enduro and regular drivers ?
Cause i tried to reinstall 12.10 from amd website and the problem is still the same....
I'll try the enduro in a minute ! -
Switchable graphics are back with enduro......but not the brightness.
So I guess I'll just stay with the msi ones. -
I bought mine because of LisuPoland's videos too
Thanks for helping

My GX60 can't run Assassin's Creed 3 smoothly. When arrive Boston in the game,I only got less than 20 fps.And just like Battlefield 3,turning down graphic settings didn't help.Quite sure my settings are all right and orange light turns on.I sent it to MSI after-sales department sadly.Hope they can solve the problem.
-
Yes, I posted the videos
Truth is, drivers for 7970m, and 7xxx series overall have been BAD since the release AFAIK.
So the good side of the coin is, we will be seeing improvement over what people get now in the coming months.
It's wierd, that some games run maybe not badly, but below expectations on GX60, while demanding games like Skyrim, Witcher 2 or Far Cry 3 run on max with 30+ fps. But drives seem to be the issue, MSi Afterburner shows, that sometimes GPU works at 70% load in areas where it should utilize it's full power, so Enduro might be still the issue (currently DX9 perfromance has not been patched at all, and preliminary fixes to DX10 and DX11 will still be polished).
Nevertheless, you have to admit that this is a solid notebook and I'm glad I chose GX60, paying not so much more, over the Y580.
GTX 660m already chokes on demanding games beyond medium settings, even with i7 3610QM witch backs it up. -
2 pages and I have found from where all my problems come from (Brightnes and Switchable Graphics Menu)
Hope MSI can build new release based on 12.11 beta11.
I have learned through AMD forum that if we want to use switchable graphics we need to us drivers from Laptop Manufacturer.
BR,
P.S. GX60 could be a bit quieter at Idle. The Fan spinning Hi and Lo, Lo and Hi is annoying. -
I'm not a laptop user. This is my first so I am clueless but is waiting for the manufacturer to release their own driver the norm? If it is, usually how long is it until they release the "safe" for their laptop version?
-
Technically it might be very easy and quick to do for them.......maybe they're just lazy.
-
I just noticed something :
I reinstalled the drivers from msi's website, and my performances with far cry 3 REALLY improved.
With the enduro, i had lag when on a radio tower or deltaplane or when on a mountain looking down to the island, and with msi's drivers : no more !
I can run it in dx9 in ultra, and it's perfect.I didn't try dx11, I would have to start from scratch (saves are not compatible I guess), but still.
So for everyone who wants better performances with this game (and no doubt it should be the same with many others) : reinstall msi's drivers ! -
I like how everyone is discussing their gx60 mine is still on pre-order status.... =[
-
-
So GX60 can play this game very well and gameplay is very pleasant. -
Once MSi has the WHQL drivers from AMD, it will use them to tailor it's own drivers witch will also introduce all the fixes AMD has made in 12.11. -
Yes I could try dx11 but i think the saves are not compatible......but however, there's been a big improvement since I...........reinstalled the old drivers ^^.

New BIOS and Firmware released (for Windows 8 users):
MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more
MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more
//EDIT I guess this change ordinary BIOS into UEFI so we can now install Windows 8 in UEFI mode. Damn why so late -
Also suitable for the w7 upgraded to w8 gx60 ? Cause the msi forum dude said it was a no go due to quote "those BIOSes are only for those NB who comes with Windows 8 pre installed." . im a bit confused though
-
Yeah I saw that. This is kind of weird explanation. Mine GX60 was ordered without OS. I decided to install Windows 8 as this NB i labeled Windows 8 ready.
Now I want Windows 8 ready BIOS and they claim that I can't flash it? -
Trying is the only solution
. But who is gonna try it first
E16FKAMS.105 Vs E16FKAMS.508 .I dont really see a difference in filename only a difference in version number , which is good , so i dont see why i cant be used by people who havent prordered the w8 version....
I wonder what "live update 5" program will say. -
NICE layjohn ,i was confused in LCD and LED comparison but now i understand difference between them.
-
I am seriously considering the MSI GX60 because of the price. It would be my first gaming laptop, so I hope this will not disappoint. Also, I'm happy to hear that it runs Far Cry 3 well. I was waiting to see how it could handle that game.
-
On the other hand.... Apparently ALL gx60 is sold out in North America.... and it's been like this for....few months? >.<! -

Hey fellow MSI GX60 owners. I got mine in the mail a few days ago and I'm loving it. So far no issues. I seem to be able to change the brightness and MSI afterburner shows 100% 7970m usage in some games if I Crank up the settings. Really liking it. The eyefinity feature works great! I have 2 23" monitors.. But it works OK, I might get the third. Really amazing what this laptop can do for $1200!
Here's a picture!
I have been playing with the temps using Core Temp 1.0 RC4 these are the results at 17 C ambient:
Light browsing on Chrome, amazon, gmail, google news. Laptop on wood table 17 C ambient: 48 C
Same usage, but with coolermaster cooling pad 2 80mm fans strategically placed and built in fan to 100%: 28 C
Gaming, Skyrim Ultra settings only draw distances slightly reduced to improve response time, no extra cooling: 65 C
Same usage, but with above mentioned cooling provisions: 45-50 C
Now, I know that ambient temp is a bit low, but still, this comes to show that this laptop really runs very cool. -
Nice picture Ocelotian! Can it handle skyrim in eyefinity in that setup? That would be a great picture, too.
-
I haven't modded Skyrim to support that resolution. And I'm almost past my data cap this month, so no more downloads from Steam until Monday. The only game I have with native Eyefinity is Sniper Elite V2. And yes, it runs great on almost all ultra settings. I had to turn down antialising and draw distances to get top performance. I don't see any difference with eyefinity and just a single screen. Maybe only 5% more 7970m usage. Having one 15.6 and 2 23" screens for an eyefinity setup is not very useful. I think it would be OK for games like COD where peripheral vision is needed to see foes first. But it would be amazing if I had the third monitor. Works wonders. Just get all the right cables. Specially the mini display port to DVI adapter.
-
Well according to the store I bought mine from they said that they have a tentative eta on the gx60 for tuesday dec 11. So hopefully msi comes through on their supply date.
-
-
Has anyone tried some Battlefield 3 multiplayer on this laptop? I'm curious to see how it runs on the GX60.
-
I have heard some information was released by amd saying the next gen APU will be different architecture than the current. Which mean we will not able to upgrade the CPU on the current GX60.
Have anyone else hear anything about the next gen APU? -
7970m could use at least a CPU of i5 pefromance and I would gladly kick out this A-10 and insert something with more juice in it. -
Can someone check if on yours GX60 while booting there is a Killer LAN configuration under Shift+F10. I want to disable that boot option but after another Power ON the setting are reset to their default.
Also there is some kind of dual boot or something.
At first after power ON its MSI POST Screen, Then Killer LAN then again MSI POST and after that OS loading. It's rather quick but not necessary. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
With the unlocked bios I believe you can at least change how long the delay is.
-
I can change all that but after another reboot is back to default :/
-
Warning to all future GX60 buyers. The AMD processor you get with your GX60 is choking 7970M beyond everything. A 660M + i7 processor is pretty much performing like your notebook. You`d be way better of with a GT70/GT60 with i7 + 670MX/675MX
-
But as an owner of GX60 I can say it's not that bad for the price. Games still run good and hope for better CPU's is there. -
comparisons have been done many times...i don't know how the table shows a 60% increase in performance..yes in CPU intensive games there are few percent of fps drop, but that's not 60%. this article assumed 7970m is getting choked in all scenarios
-
It shows that because they look at average performance over 14 games. So yes, in some games the GX60 would crush the 660M configurations, other the opposite, and it leads to the average of 5% difference between them.
I knew 7970M was bottlenecked but not that it was this big difference -
-
6fps for guildwar 2?
8fps for need for speed??
and for far cry, on max you get 8, then on high you actually lose 1 fps at 7fps...
They really don't look accurate at all.... maybe that's the min fps you get under the worse case scenario? 50 cop cars chasing you? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They do sound quite dubious and don't match up with what I saw.
-
I have got a problem trying to open the lid at the bottom. I remove the 5 screws holding the lid in place. But I still can't take it off after I unclick everything. I can't remove it from the screw hole on the corner of the main air intake. That's not a lid screw is it because I tried to open the lid with it screwed in and unscrewed. There is also a longer screw that I forgot which hole it goes into.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
IIRC the longer ones go into the keyboard holes.
You need to remove the screw if the post is keeping it pinned down. -

Ok, screw removed. It is this here (as shown on the picture). I still can't figure out a way to remove the lid. There is something attached. How do I wiggle it out? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Could you repost the picture? It did not seem to attach.
There are screws and clips, if you have all the screws removed, and the segment around the primary hard drive has come away it should just lift out.
