Here is the guide I'm using to update my BIOS. Everything went fine until Part 2, step 5. Once I type in "c:" it comes up with C:\> and that's it. As i mentioned in my previous post I attempted many different letter's before ":" to try locate the drive. "g:" and "h:" corresponding to the Flash drive letter came up as invalid.

Am I doing something wrong?

 

Found out I made a rookie mistake....

Followed this video guide, despite not speaking polish I was able to follow along and figure it out.


Now to unlock the BIOS...

I wonder if i could repast my GX60 with CoolLaboratory Liquid Pro, the perf of this liquid metal seems to be amazing.
BUT, it's a bit risky compared to non conductive thermal paste.
Do you know if this can be applied on the CPU and GPU of the GX 60? (no aluminium can be in contact with this product.

 

Anyone had any major issues with freezes when switching to the AMD Radeon HD 7970M? Since Christmas the screens turns black as soon as I switch or I get a BSOD. Anyone with some good ideas of how to diagnose? I've reinstalled Windows (8.1) once and tried to reinstall the VGA drivers. Problem is that trying to reinstall the VGA drivers usually forces a switch to the 7970M...

 

hey guys im new here(also newbie when it comes to stuffs), can i know how to optimize performance on my GX60? i know this topic might buried in this lounge somewhere but it's kinda pain in the ass to find it(sry for the rude attitude). quick tutorial link or such may as well be helpful.
Mine is GX60 3BE-239 Hitman Edition, A10 5750M, AMD Radeon HD8970M 2GB GDDR5, 16GB DDR3 RAM(8GB from additional), 750GB HDD 7200RPM+120GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO..thought this much specs are enough

If you want to go further in the overclocking (maybe just to overclock i did not tried yiet) you can change the heat sink of the cpu by a GT60 heat sink, you can also mod the back of the computer :

Of course, you must repast whith hight end thermal paste.

Can anyone get me the file(s) to unlock my Bios?

My gx60 1ac is running windows 8.1, 5750m es, and 7970m. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version but I can't seem to find the files for unlocking...

 

Mine hasn't had any issues. I've only had it for a couple weeks now, but I have put it through some pretty serious gaming sessions with a notable increase in performance over my old 4600m, and I haven't even overclocked yet.

Were you overclocking? How long did you have the 5750 es installed?

 

Try to tighten the heatsink of the cpu to motherboard. First remove it completly and then install it. be sure to not put too much thermal paste.

there seems to me are problems with CPU clamp.

 

Hey guys! as long has i was searching for some informations about how to increase the cooling of the cpu of this laptop, i found this subject :

It is in french but tells how to make the double heat pipe fit in the GX60. Surprise, it is not so easy... one piece needs to be cut whitch is not hard to do. But two pieces of metal supporting the two screws, are higher than in the GX60, this makes the contact between the CPU and the heatsink worse than with the GX60's heatsink. If no modifications are done, the temperature is 6°C higher than with stock heatpipe. if you twist theses pieces, temperatures are only 4-5°C lower than with stock heatsink...

 

Haven't overclocked it, it was dead in a day. Had it installed in the evening, wen't to watch some youtube video's, the next day took it with me to school as i always had, did some light gaming (need for speed underground 1), when i got home it would not boot up again.

Yeah i did not check the temps as i thought it was fine.... the heatsink was tight though. The thermal past wasn't too much, altough i am not too sure how much i should use as i normally only paste desktop CPU's. When my laptop gets back with hopefully a new motherboard i will test again and watch it more closely.

 

where did you see the info about "two pieces of metal supporting the two screws"? I got already that heatsink and didnt notice there any more incompability but just the cut off corner

I have not done the modification yiet, can you tell me the differences you noticed in terms of temperatures? It is always better to have two different views.

 

well I think the GX heatsink flex to the same state as the GT is at stock while screwin but I will check that.

I think with this mod without work of the screw holes there is a diffrent. for me its like not more then 90-92 degree with constant 3.7GHz while playing games.
however I use it not too often cause while I go to 3.5GHz its comfortable performance and temps are about 10 degree lower.

 

Actualy there's 3 pieces of metals. All numbered. The difference between GX's and GT's fixations is the little spacer (about half a millimeter) under the GX's.

Those spacers are missing on the GT's heatsink and as a result you can't tighten it properly with the screws.

The big issue when bending those pieces of metal is they loosen, the pressure reduces, and after a month, temps are starting to climb higher than with stock GX's heatsink again.
The only solutions are :

1. Lower the mounting holes by sanding them down half a millimeter (But there's no turning back)
2. Or add a coper shim between the heatsink and the CPU (But you add a 2nd layer of thermal paste, reducing the heat transfer)

Ah ! And by the way : Those are my heatsinks you're looking at

Edit : Another solution would be to only sand the number 1 mount hole and make a bridge with a tiny parts of metal under the fixations, but across the heatsink holes, in order to keep the fixation bent upward.

 

Ok... but i dont understand why simply adding what whe call in french a "washer", between the screw and the pieces of metal is not enough.

Where do you expect to place it? On or under the heatsink. On it will do not make any diffrence and under it will just make it much worse.

You need to do somethink like I did.

@Mullrof : That's what i'm talking about as a 3rd solution. Litlle metal bridges just under number 2 and 3 to keep them bent upward.
But for number 1, i cant see another solution but sanding it's mounting hole. Maybe another curved metal part on the heatpipes tip and under both number 1's legs would do the trick. But it would be harder to find such a shaped parts than the litlle bridges.

@Cloclo : It would have worked if it was a screw length issue. The real issue is the space between the metal pieces and the mounting holes, being to narrow the metal pieces doesn't bent downward enough to work like a spring, and so it doesn't apply enough pressure on the heatsink.

 

trust me its really hard to make that bridge and the heatsink is hard tighten now. Now I understand your 3rd solution. but I think there is no need to do something with it. its really tight now. I would even say there is too tight and I got yesterday issue with running laptop on after screwed it. had to loosen it and be careful tightening again. the laptop was just dead. no screen, no dedicated graphic ligh. no sounds nothing. only fan noise.

however after I did some temperature bench.
while 3dmark11 at 3.7GHz with no tubo cool it was 78 degree. (max we can get with 1.212V)

 

Damn... ! Thanks for your warning ! I'll try with flexible metal parts instead of rigid ones as i first thought.
Now i see why your bridges are a little bent.

Too much pressure isn't good either, especially if it isn't well balanced.

 

well. my bridges are made of most rigid metal I have found. and I was sure it will not flex. as I said its hard to make it - need to use much strength. I was surprised that it flexed anyway.

however I think you should use rigit metal also. there is a chance it will last longer with effect it made.

one more thing is to not use the bridge too width. firstly I tried to do it with 5mm but it was way to huge. it was possible to bridge with but there was pressure that I was afraid of. the width I reccomend is about 3mm and with that small size it becomes more flexible

 

Thank you guys for this info! I just got my gt heat sink in the mail today, when I bought it I was under the impression that I only had to modify (cut) the corner. Guess I'll look around to find something to bridge across number 1 and 2.

If you're looking for the bios unlocker "MSi enabler", you have to know :

1. Some people bricked their notebook with.
2. Mantle with enduro has been fixed with latest AMD driver
3. Current overclocking method doesn't need Bios Mod.

Guys, I have 60 (1st generation), I found it a backlit keyboard that I would like to touch a button on and off the keyboard backlight to work. As I understand it, that would put the new firmware, I want to update the BIOS to the latest version, but I do not, who else encountered this problem? Actually really upgrade to D0L? Now I have a version 50a.

Ok ... I added my own bridges (not as clean as yours Mullrof), repasted with gelid extreme and i'm back at my best temp :
T° Ambient 22°C.
OCCT 10mn @ 4.0Ghz VID 1.293V (1.238 - 1.256 VCore) => max T° 85°C.
CoolerBooster On of course ...

Before it went higher than 93°C

Running at that speed the performance must be brought up to reasonable levels. What ram speed and timings are you running? They can make a difference with this CPU.

 

performance at 4GHz ot that CPU is comparable to i5 haswell while 3.7GHz is like i5 ivy.

I tested the 4GHz many times and its still easier for me to sacrifice few % for the cooler and the comfor of use (3.7GHz is max stable at voltages designed for non-turbo)

 

Stock RAM , I know it's a shame...
I'll be glad to upgrade them with 16GB PC3-14900 CL10 as soon as their price drop (If € doesn't drop again too )

 

Maybe in highly threaded situations, it will still be far behind in lower threaded applications. However clocking it up should help the GPU breathe a bit.

 

I just thought I'd chime in to this thread.

I have recently acquired a MSI GX60 and consider myself to be a happy owner so far. I've got the Richland version with the A10-5750M CPU and HD8970M. I was looking for a "portable" system for my casual gaming needs, but it needed to be convincing as a regular notebook as well. Considering that I previously owned a GX660R for a very short time, I thought the GX60 was perfect because it is a well rounded and well equipped device while still being relatively cheap to purchase. My impressions of it so far are mostly positive:

Chassis

The aluminium plastic mix is interesting and quite rigid. I really like the brushed aluminium palmrest, as it just adds that extra high quality touch to the device. The plastic bottom is quite robust as well, but it somewhat diminishes the premium feel. Nevertheless, the GX60 is a very nicely built machine that doesn't disappoint, even from the perspective of a user of business laptops. I just wished that it had a few more color accents, especially since the GX60 doesn't have those eye-catching lights that my GX660R used to have.

Keyboard

I honestly didn't expect very much. My standards are extremely high and even many ThinkpPad keyboards don't satisfy me. So I was quite surprised to find that the GX60 steelseries keyboard offers a decent typing experience. The tactile feel is quite responsive, though still a little soft and with only mediocre, yet sufficient, key travel for such a thick machine. Still, you don't usually find this sort of keyboard quality on consumer machines, so color me impressed anyway. The RGB lighting is a nice touch as well.

Screen

The FHD screen is a TN panel, but at least it's one of the better ones. I'm guessing the contrast is around 500:1. Viewing angles are above average and the matte screen surface is appreciated as well. Brightness seems sufficient (maybe 250-300 nits?), but that's not really important to me. Colors however are, and since the panel covers the sRGB color space, it offers pretty neat and vivid colors. Overall, not the best display out there, but I'm still happy that it's one of the better TN's.

Speakers

The speakers are praised a lot on the MSI GT60/GX60 etc. machines, so my expectations were high. And while the speakers do offer a balanced and boisterous sound with some noticeable bass, thanks to the subwoofer, there are still a few points that I'm not quite satisfied with. The 2 stereo speakers sound a little soft, not in terms of volume, but the way they sound. It's not that they sound muddled or anything, in fact they sound decently clear and balanced, but I think the mids aren't quite as strong as they should be. Furthermore, sound depends heavily on where you place the GX60. Next to a wall on a wooden table, you really hear the bass but once you remove it from that position, the subwoofer fades into the background. Don't get me wrong, this system will still blow pretty much any other notebook out of the water, but I guess I just expected a little bit too much after reading all those positive review. Regardless, I still enjoy the sound that the GX60 offers.

Performance

The A10-5750M is supposedly on Sandy-Bridge i3 level, which is quite decent. Every day usage is fine. It feels pretty quick, with only one or two occasional lags. However, as we all know, it really slows down the GPU in some games. When even Crysis (the first one) delivers good frame rates only at low to medium settings, you just know something needs to be done. I have ordered the ES version and hope that it will solve these problems.
At least most games that I play don't require that much CPU power, so I'm still happy with the overall performance. The A10 is a well rounded and capable little CPU. It's nice to have an AMD system as opposed to the Intel systems that you see behind every corner.

Cooling

Another reason why I chose the GX60 is its very well designed cooling. Despite only having one fan, it does a superb job at keeping the components cool. Combined with the adequately sized heat pipes and some Arctic thermal paste, my HD8970M reaches a maximum of about 75-80°C during gaming, which is quite impressive for a 15 incher with a 100W GPU. The CPU tops out at 75°C as well. Do keep in mind though that the fan is relatively loud under load, which I will gladly accept however, considering the low temperatures. While doing light tasks such as surfing, the fan is audible but quiet, which is something that not every gaming notebook can claim. Thanks to cleverly placed vents and a thick chassis, all surface areas (apart from the fan exhaust obviously), even directly beneath the CPU and GPU stay absolutely cold, even after hours of gaming, which I find highly impressive. Definitely the best cooling system I have ever encountered on a notebook.

Battery life

It get around 3-5h while doing light tasks (so I basically average 4h), which is pretty good for this type of machine I'd say.

Conclusion

Apart from a few minor issues, the GX60 is really good machine. It does well in almost all disciplines and even excels at some. (like cooling) The only major flaw is the CPU performance as a bottleneck in some games, but luckily there are options to address that issue. If you can find one cheap and you are willing to put a little effort into optimizing it, then I can definitely recommend the GX60.

2 weeks were enough to see the temp increase again :
Just 3mn of OCCT with Cooler booster On, and the APU hits the 96°C !!!

It seems like the heatsink pressure droped again .

 

I was having a major issue after flashing the latest version of the BIOS using the GUI app that comes with the BIOS files for the GX60 1AC (WIN 8 BIOS). I got it working after re-flashing using DOS. For some reason, if you flash with the GUI app, when you reboot windows the display driver for the GPU causes windows to freeze on the welcome screen right when the switchable graphics switches from GPU to APU.

 

If It was just me I think I would try the liquid metal as thermal paste. As it hardens it would probably fix the problem.

In the end I'm on win 8.1. A question whether the mantle is functioning properly on gx notebook ? Which version of driver do you recommend for Mantle? I'm planning to play DA:I . I have 1AC version of GX60 with A10-4600m and 4 GB of RAM .

 

Installed in your laptop backlit keyboard. Highlighting regulated utility. Button on the touch panel does not work, because there is no official firmware for the 1st generation notebooks GX60-1AC.
Can someone tell me what proishivku can be established that would include lights at the hardware level?
Tried to install the firmware from the latest generation of laptops GX60-3CC, but the firmware is not placed, since it requires the latest version of the BIOS, which is also not to be put on my GX60-1AC. Maybe someone knows how to solve my problem? Maybe someone left the old firmware from a laptop for GX60-3BE backlit keyboard?

These firmware versions require a new BIOS that my laptop is not placed, so I ask the older firmware versions. When the firmware writes a message "Wrong Project"!

actualy I have original 1AC version but working with all of those bioses for GXes. now working on 3CC bios with 3CC firmware and 3CC vbios

 

The fact that I did not get to flash bios D0L from GX60-3CC. BIOS firmware run under Windows. Would be very grateful if I helped in this issue.

I have been trying to find the A10-5750M ES CPU for over a month. I can't find one on Ebay and every single seller I can find on AliExpress is out of stock. Anyone have any ideas where else I can look?

 

It's probably removed by eBay since ES is actually not a legit item to be traded on any market.
Or it could have been sold out in the market.
