yes i tried both, it throttles at 900mhz yes... i'll try with aida as you said and post reply in a few minutes.

 

So... for aida, the trial time has expired, i tried to lock with bar edit as you do with stock processors with no effect.
I downloaded Rweverything but it is way to difficult to use for me.

 

I think there is no problem with APM anymore, it looks ok. I don't know how to use RWeverything, but gxmods use this program already. i am using win7, and pscheck more simple but i guess pscheck can't work with win8. I had same throttling problem as you, throttling 900mhz, with this settings, it's gone. Maybe someone help you, who know better than me. But i think your cpu is not working at really 3,6ghz. Your temps must be higher i think. With throttling it isn't real 3,6. Try some just cpu benchmarks without using gpu. And look it's still throttling? Because my problem was that.

 

In fact, my power management is called ACPI, i dont have APM. I think i need an unlocked Bios to have access to this feature into the bios. I will wait until someone comes help us...

I made a second run of 10 minutes and core temps were about 72°C, but the system crashed and restarted before the end

 

You can find bios tutorials in this thread. I am not msi gx60 user, i don't know bios things. The bios things always looks scary for me Just search unlocked bios in this thread. I hope you will solve your problem. And trying to cpu tdp limit, you can play the game just with 8650g. set game.exe power saving mode in ccc, crossfire disabled. Open game and see cpu throttles or not. Maybe you reach your limit, you can see with this.

@Cloclo : Bios mod isn't required anymore. And as a double edged tool, i wouldn't advise you to play with it : You can brick your laptop if you missuse it.

GXmod (v2) script provides two methods for overclocking :

• The first one with setpci is reported broken, following a recent update of both Windows 7 and 8.
• The second one with RWeverything is a workaround, and actually the last working method.

You should use GXmod(v2) and select " 2 - RWeverything" when prompted.

I'm really surprised how well the GX60 runs Witcher 3. A ES CPU won't matter for Witcher 3. The CPU has little impact. The game runs 40-60fps at 1080p with everything on ultra minus Nvidia's failworks (Hairworks makes it look worse).

The only game I've had problems with recently is Star Ruler 2. I use a 4810MQ/860M for Star Ruler 2 because that game will use all the CPU you can throw at it. The GX60 is much faster than my 4810MQ/860M in Witcher 3 though.

 

Can you guys give me some info about drivers, for the GX60 also, I was wondering if anyone has had issues with running world of warcraft. I'm also had issues when running witcher 2. Thanks for the help.

 

Hey I've got some kind of weird thing going on with my laptop that maybe someone can help me locate. Me and my brother both have the exact same MSI GX60 laptop with the exact same drivers for our computers, or at least we believe we do, except my brother's computer seems to run far superior to mine. He's getting about 40-60 fps on high graphics while on the same game i'm getting 20-40 fps on normal graphics. Maybe there is some setting somewhere that we are both unaware of so I was hoping to get some assistance in locating the difference between our laptops. Thank you in advance for any assistance offered to solving this mystery!

 

I dont have the game (witcher 3) but I think you should push the graphics level same as your brother's setting, we all know that the CPU
is the weak link in our GX60s therefore you should "transfer" the workload to the GPU by increase the graphics quality.

Also check if your system is in "High-Performance" setting (also the game itself). You can check previous reviews (especially Tom's Hardware Review on GX60) regarding the CPU/GPU load on games.

I hope this would somehow help your situation.

 

So I did ramp my game's graphics up to high,which we are playing ArcheAge in case that matters, and he was still getting about 10-20 more fps than me. The max I ever hit was 47 fps and his highest was 76 fps. In the catalyst control center, I do have ArcheAge set to high performance and my power options is also set to high performance if that is what you were referring to. Any other things I should look into? A valiant effort but I don't think we've nailed it yet

On a second note, this Tom's Hardware Review place. What can I find that will help me get my GX60 to be like my brother's?

Has anyone tried the 15.5 beta drivers? I couldn't get the .exe to run for some reason (amd-catalyst-15.5beta-64bit-win8.1-may27.exe) - is there something I'm missing?

Edit: I see some info about people modding the drivers so they work with switchable graphics cards - so I guess these ones aren't for us just yet. I'm not too keen on modded graphics drivers, so I guess I'll wait it out.

A little question again...
I have GX 60 destroyer (3cc), and my GPU is still detected as a 8970M with driver version 14.301.1013.0 (14.11.2beta) I looked at the specs in Afterburner and found mine is running at 950mhz core, 900mhz memory, whereas the official specs are 900/1200 mhz. Where is the problem?

I followed all the steps in the tutorial given by MSI to update Vbios but no way, i cannot boot to the USB drive.... I get an error message in while selecting the bootable drive like : missing OS or something.

use program "rufus" to make bootable pendrive and then copy to the pendrive the bios you want to flash.

Hello everybody,
not sure if this has been answered before (used google and found nothing, cba to read all 400+ pages here) but when playing most games on my laptop, I'm experiencing screen freezes. These screen freezes last for about 2 seconds and then they are gone, happening again after 2-5 minutes later. This isn't a problem when playing offline games but when playing MOBAs and FPS this usually means I'm dead when the freeze happens at the wrong time, pretty annoying.
Has anyone experienced the same? Feels like the GPU is switching from the dedicated R9 to the one on the CPU or something for that short time, in catalyst all my games are set to the R9 though. This only happens in games, when I'm using the laptop for work it never freezes.
I'm running Win7 64 bit.

(Also on an unrelated note, I bought a seperate SSD (Samsung 840 EVO basic) and I'm running my windows on it. When starting the laptop, it doesn't recognize the SSD at the first time (says no bootable medium was found). I have to power the laptop down and start again - then it is being recognized. This basically means I have to power up my laptop twice everytime, not a big issue but wondering what could cause this...)

what is capacity of your pendrive? it has to be low. msi recomend to be not bigger then 1GB. also it has to be formatted as fat system. at the screen you did it seems you have no rufus dos installed.

it seems to me its a problem of R9 card bios. probably reducing frequency of the GPU core by 50MHz should fix the problem however I recommend you to RMA this to MSI with good explaination of the problem.

I tried lowering the GPU core with MSI afterburner by 50 MHz, sadly the problem is still occuring. Should doing it with afterburner suffice or do I actually have to do it in the BIOS somehow?

Okay, so it looks like it wasn't an issue with the GPU after all. As I mentioned, I have bought an additional SSD to the HDD (Western Digital WDC WD75) that came with (my edition of) the laptop. I had installed most games on the HDD, I now moved one of the games that was making troubles onto my SSD and voila... screen freezes are gone. Very odd that the HDD is causing the hickups here, it should surely be fast enough.

maybe you should set the HDD to not turning off for a longer time in a power plan settings?

 

Yes that can happen, the game caches an entire level into ram so the HDD goes idle. Then when it comes to load something it missed or could not fit in cache and it has to wait for the HDD to spin up.

 

Hi, new GX60 owner here.

Just wanted to say im running my GX60 Hitman on Windows 10 Insider Preview. Everything works which is a good sign for using GX60 on windows 10 retail. You need to install the MSI SCM driver, the latest killer network driver from Killers website and the AMD radeon drivers. The radio switch driver will need to be installed as well, but do it manually if you have issues.
Dont install anything else...you will have issues. Basically leave the sound, wifi and bluetooth drivers as the windows standard.

If you have problems installing the AMD Radeon drivers (eg windows showing a yellow exclamation in device manager afterwards). Run the install again without uninstalling. If that fails try the AMD beta drivers.

The KMD brightness registry edit will also have to be done after video driver installs, but you have to change it in more than one place now (search for the KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 and just change all under HKey local machine).

Only issue im having at the moment is sometimes i get a very long restart time (Windows gets stuck on the restarting circle for about 5-8 minutes). But i had this on the 8.1 clean install as well. Im not sure what it is, it could be something to do with 16GB RAM and the page file or hibernate file, or a driver. Havent figured that out yet.

*EDIT The slow shutdown/restart bug is caused by the bluetooth driver and windows service. Disable "Device Association Service" under services.msc to fix.

 

Hello Everybody.

Okay I need your help, I'm turning CRAZY here..

My HDMI display stopped working, overnight, with no damn good reason. Thought it was a faulty cable. Nope, three cables later, including a new one, it's clearly not. TV is configured correctly I can plug it in my PS3 and have a picture, plug it in my computer and nothing, the TV keep saying "no signal"

Tried clearing my display drivers using "Driver Display Uninstaller" then install my drivers again with catalyst install manager. Didnt changed a thing.

Never once did my GX60 even detected I had plugged a screen, never did it detected a display.

Finally I thought my HDMI out was just dead so I bought a mini displayport to HDMI, unfortunately while my computer does detect a new screen is plugged it doesnt want to go any higher than 640x480, which doesnt change a thing since no picture is getting to my TV anyway.

Again it happened overnight, everything worked perfectly before. Last thing I did that might have caused it is a CCleaner cleanup, which I suppose might have screwed with something, but unfortunately a system restore to a previous date did not fixed a thing.

Please, help me, for the sake of a laptop that is about to be thrown against a wall...

Your system utilizes Enduro, doesn't it? It could be your APU (the A10 CPU) that's the problem.

 

No idea about Enduro but it is a A10 CPU. It's the GX60 Destroyer.

Let's say it does come from the APU, because why not I've ruled out everything else, any idea how to fix it ? =)

Enduro is to AMD what Optimus is to NVidia; switchable graphics, usually resulting in the processor being responsible for all video output (while the GPU renders, but does not drive any display). Whether your problem is with the chip or the board, one thing you can try is to reinstall/update the chipset driver. The driver for the APU is native, although you can remove the driver for it and reboot the system, which will cause Windows to reinstall the native driver.

 

anyone get Virtual Super Resolution to work?

 

Hey everyone. I have a GX60 1AC-021US (A10-4600M/ HD 7970M). I have updated all drivers, BIOS, and I'm currently on Windows 8.1. I have had issues since I bought this laptop a couple years ago with Windows updates installation hangs and slow boot/ game loading. Is there a known fix for slow HDD response other than buying a SSD?

FYI, I just installed the latest AMD drivers (AMD-Catalyst-15.7-With-DOTNet45-Win7-64bit) and (scratching my head due to disappointment) now BF4 cannot be played (Mantle Error Pop-up). FRAPS is also unusable with this driver. So far only BF4 and FRAPS have issues on my part. The thing is AMD called it an "Official Driver" (sigh)....Going back to beta drivers (no issues for me)

I got clean installed Win10 on my GX60. It works rather ok. So far not more problems then at windows 7.

I dont rly think. while you asking about links for bioses I am not sure if you are competent to do it. there is no official update of bioses for GX60 1AC. so the bios you want to upgrade is from another revision of GX that differs a little and the operation is risky while you can brick your system dooing it. you definitely need to know what are you dooing. I am not gonna guide you step by step with guarantee of succesful

The windows 10 install will put in the relevant drivers.

If the manufacturer releases it then it's recommended since new implementations for Win10 are definitely going to help to provide better user experience, however even if there isn't any the system will still operate just fine.
