Just an update on running windows 10 on my GX60 3AE (BIOS D0L), the final release of Win 10 SL does not work. Ive tried multiple installations and it either fails at installing drivers or configuring devices. If it boots in Windows 10 its EXTREMELY slow or continually crashes ( sad face BSOD).
The preview versions worked fine up until build 10240 were i think a new driver for something that the GX60 3AE uses is stuffed up. I suspect its a driver for the AR5B225 wifi/bt card or the AMD southbridge storage driver. Whatever it is, its unusable and you wont be able to keep the PC running long enough to be able to figure out which driver it is.
So if youre on the 3AE maybe hold off the upgrade for now, but it might still work since not all GX60s come with the same WIFI/BT cards.
Maybe need to report the issue to MS but im not part of the insider program anymore.

What if you run a refresh? -
Agree. But there is no official release of the bios.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yes, in that case, you may still have most of working functions, but perhaps not all. -
Tried that, tried using USB install media, different ISOs, online upgrade, fresh install of windows 8.1 then another attempt to upgrade to windows 10.
Even tried replacing my RAM and then my SSD to different hardware, didnt help.
Just doesnt work. I can get it to install but theres big performance anc stability issues. If i install an earlier version of Windows 10 Preview im fine, but the current final version just does not work. -

Did you get any kind of crash error? Check Event Viewer also and find out what it says. -
Hey guys, does the GXMod overclocking for ES processors work in Windows 10?
-
Yeah, GXMod overclocking works on windows 10, but strangely enough you have to use SetPCI instead of RWEverything (RWEverything crashes).
-
For those who are now on Windows 10 on gx60, were you able to fix your sound issues? My 5.1 or 7.1 setup does not work. Only stereo mode (2 speakers) is working. I have tried different drivers for Realtek including the one released last August 11, 2015 for windows 10. The side and rear speakers don't make any sound during testing. only the front speakers work. When you click on the rear and side speakers during configuration, it shows that it played a sound, but no sound can be heard. if anyone have found a solution, or if anyone has them working, please share driver versions or workarounds you have done. thanks in advance.
-
did you try the official msi driver for windows 7?
-
yep I have.
so I'm guessing I'm the only one in this boat? you guys on windows 10 have no sound issues like mine? Mullrof, your 5.1 or 7.1 is working okay?
if its okay to post your driver version including the thx trustudio software version. it will be a big help so I can zero in on what I have done wrong.... moving to windows 10 was almost perfect except for this.

I will check after job. However I dont rly know how t o check if my 5.1 and 7.1 works cause I dont have external sets like that
-
Thanks kevin.. I tried. still not working.
I checked the net. seems a lot of people are having this problem on windows 10 with realtek. still no solution so far.
Mulrof, you can check it by going to the sound manager of realtek on the lower right of your desktop screen. click icon to test if the speakers will play. put the speaker on 5.1 or 7.1 mode. on windows 8.1, each speaker will emit sound during testing regardless if you are on 5.1 mode or 7.1. -

Once installed, check under Control Panel and reveal all items, then verify if Realtek HD Audio Manager exists or not. -
well, then as I remember then it worked. However I use only stereo while it provides best sound expiriences.
I will check it anyway when I back home -
windows 10 problems active bluetooth and brightness notworking touchpad dont work if you enable disable

hey there proud gx60 owners, I was considering replacing my M290X for an Nvidia, and I was trying to figure out if it was possible, some say it isn't, some think laptops don't have dedicated gpus, some say it's possible but the gpu has to be compatible, so I figured I'd ask here if anyone can help me.
EDIT : I just found this(check it out if you are a gx60 owner) which means I might not need to upgrade after all, since it's like my GPU is underclocked by 350mhz(I checked, the memory clock really is 900) the problem is I don't know how to upgrade this vbios.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015 -

Check with Svet, maybe he can help you to unleash more horse power on your aging system. GX60 was a good machine with its value for the bang. -

Go here:
http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GX60-3CC-Destroyer.html#down-bios
Select the OS that your machine shipped with, download the file and read the instructions.
Also Nvidia cards will not work as the machine must use Enduro which requires and AMD card. -
The FAQ was mentioning updating the VBIOS, do you need to update the BIOS in order to do that ?(my machine was shipped with freeDOS so i'll go with win 8.1 as this is what I'm currently using)
Also thank you both for answering this quickly.Last edited: Sep 2, 2015 -

You need to update the VGA BIOS to convert your current card to the latest name.
http://download.msi.com/archive/frm_exe/nb/1134392.601.zip
Instructions (update via pure DOS mode):

Thank you very much. Are you sure these are the right software and the right method to use for me, though ? My GX60 is the 3CC Destroyer. Sorry I'm so cautious but I know there are several types of GX60 and I don't wanna install the wrong files on my machine.
EDIT1 : I have looked around on the MSI website and found that it was the right version and the right method indeed. I'm on it.
EDIT 2 : there we go my memory clock is now 1250. Thank you very much for your help.Last edited: Sep 2, 2015 -

Excellent work, you did great and have resolved the issue on your own.

Hi guys! I'm looking for the old version of the BIOS for the 1st generation GX60-1AC, it is interested in the BIOS to version windows 7!If someone were some versions, please share, will all be very grateful!
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Which particular version do you have in mind? -
I'm looking for a different version of the BIOS. I'm looking version 90d.
I may not exactly put it in the previous one post. Sorry, for my bad english) -
Hey Guys, sorry for the bump. I recently acquired a GX60-1AC shipped with a A10-4600m was wondering if I could upgrade it to an A10-5750m? They're both fs1r2 socket cpus and the later GX60's have those in them. Would flashing the board with a 5750m GX60's BIOS allow the cpu to work? Both motherboards look identical except the 1AC has a white socket instead of a black unlike the 5750m model.
-
New GX60 owner here. I know the laptop is a bit old, but i picked one up second hand for 375$. I do have a question tho. Is it worth the upgrade from the A10-4600 to the A10-5750? Any possible links to buy the processor would be helpful as i have only found one on ebay for 79.99$. Thanks in advance.

I would use the computer a little bit, with the resource monitor running in the background. if you are maxing out our CPU, then I would say it is worth looking for an upgrade. As for the differences between the two, it looks like 10 to 20% increase in performance on some various benchmarks.

Hi all, need help. I am trying to update my bios using Lisupoland's guide and files provided. But there is an error (18 - Error: unable to start Secure Flash session).
Anyone able to solve this error and proceed with update bios? actually I wanted to unlock the bios to completely disable the integrated graphics card.
I revisited old post from this forum and they came up with the solution of using "/GAN" command. Actually I am not fully aware or knowledgeable when it comes to BIOS, so please anyone who can help/teach me on how to use this "/GAN" command?
Thanks in advance!Last edited: Sep 30, 2015 -
you cant fully disable integrated graphic because it will result in a a tottal no vision.
you can only force to using all the time the dedicated graphic but it seems to not giving any advantage with actual AMD driver which is quite good for GX platform. -
Thanks for correcting me, like you said I want to force to use the dedicated graphics. I have seen some vids that forcing the usage of dedicated graphics results to better performance rather than relying on Enduro. And also I want to see the difference. This is the remaining step that I have not done on Lisu's Guide (thanks again Lisu).
I cant find any vids on how to use this "/GAN command". I will really appreciate if someone can help me -

If you disable the internal graphics both the internal display and all display outputs will cease functioning. They are hard wired into the IGP, no outputs are connected to the dedicated card.

@Kevin@GenTechPC
trolololo... GX is an AMD platform ;p
you will not see the diffrence. actual AMD driver works really good with enduro now.
its a waste of time checking it. the dedicated graphic in GX works very well and properlyKevin@GenTechPC and rpool05 like this. -
I watched your vid(on you tube) on how you flashed your BIOS. Mullrof, do you own an original MSI GX60-1AC (with 4600m)? or the one with 5750m? did you encounter the same error during your flashing of bios? (normal to Hitman bios)? I guess you also encountered the problem, please help me, even there will be no such difference in performance. I just wanted an unlocked bios, thats all
@Kevin@GenTechPC
, full AMD platform
Thanks!Last edited: Oct 9, 2015 -

My bad, I wasn't paying attention to the model #.
-
already I got much modded GX. I got A8 ES with fixed heatsink from GT60. diffrent killer wifi NIC and 7970m flashed to R9 MSI's bios. bigger DELL power supply, the SSD added. extra wifi antenna, unlocked bios (not only upgraded)
I stopped trying to mod like a half yeah ago, while was trying to mod my cooling system at CPU to something like bridge at new GT60. the results were strange and notebook behave like killed - so I decided to stop tries like that. I think its enaugh.
however back to topic. to unlock bios you need something else then just an update and I dont suggest to do it while its really easy to brick laptop having all the options.
the bios will not give you any visible performance increase. the enduro at new drivers works really good now.
I think you shoudl to unlock it only when you want to OC your ES CPU. if you dont have it, you dont rly need it, especialy that it is risky too -
Hi there
i have the laptop since 2.5 years and i'm wondering if i could replace the GPU HD 7970M to anther GPU from nvidia or AMD do you thing it is possible since the GPU can be removed as below picture
and if possible what kind of GPU i can install thanx
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You can, but TDP must be similar, and not all GPUs are usable.
Also, heatsink compatibility is another issue that you will encounter.motazaldossary likes this. -

That's right. There are some pretty important variables/caveats to take into consideration.motazaldossary likes this. -
thanks bro do you recommend me batter GPU to install instead of HD 7970M i'm not that expert and i'm trying to find batter GPU can fit my laptop and give batter performance
-
do you think i can install one of the list above
and thanks for both of you for your replay i did not think any one will replay to my question thanks again -
Sincerely, you should not replace your GPU. You will have the issues listed above and 7970M is already one of the best AMD mobile GPU with 100W of TDP (7970M = 8970M renamed = R9M290X also renamed). Indeed there is 3 GPUs that are more powerfull but their TDP is around 125W (R9M390X, R9M295X, R9M395X) and they must be very hard to find because very recent / designed for macintosh.
In addition, 7970M family is already slowed down by the CPU of GX60, if you replace the GPU, you will not see any difference in most games because of this fact.
If you want to spend money upgrading the laptop, you should keep your money to buy an enginering sample version of the CPU, then overclock it, look here for purchase :
http://fr.aliexpress.com/item/Shipp..._73_74_75,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_9
You can also buy new RAM, 2 slots for dual chanel and DDR3 1866Mhz (the A10-5750M can support it) -
thanks for your support and advise i already have 16 GB RAM 1600Mhz and one more question this below GPU
http://www.ebay.com/itm/nVidia-GeFo...310269?hash=item2804bee17d:g:x-MAAOSw~gRVvVnm
or
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Nvidia-...998718?hash=item2a5a8fc7fe:g:32UAAOSwwbdWJbeh
can do something to my laptop and is it possible to install it in my motherboard and the TDP for both of them are 100 the same as 7970M
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/388/radeon-hd-7970m.html -
Nvidia cards are theoretically placeable in the GX60, BUT you will need to tweek the bios to make them work, witch is very hard to do.
It is USELESS, your CPU will slow the card down, and you will not see any difference between 970M and 7970M.
Keep your 700 dollars, sell your computer 400 dollars or more if you want, then buy another with one of theses cards, you will save time and money.motazaldossary likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Not just a bios tweak, optimus is not designed to work with an AMD IGP and Nvidia dedicated card.
There is no valid upgrade.motazaldossary likes this. -
simply - you can't change the GPU to GeForce. only cards worth to change is (like cloco said) R9M390X, R9M295X, R9M395X. I think about them but it seems there is almost no way to get it with a price that its worthCloclo and motazaldossary like this. -
thanks for all of you and i will sell the laptop much better
