I am already tired of this laptop, even with the A10 ES... I will sell it for christmas

 

Man, the amount is probably going to be low to the level that you don't want to sell it at.

 

English is not my first language and i did not understood.
Do you mean that christmas is a good moment to sell it because there are few GX60 on the market or christmas is not a good moment because prices are low?
I took a look at the market prices and it confirms what i thought, a good price will be between 350 and 450 euros.
To my mind this laptop is not adapted to my usage. Even at 4 ghz you can't run properly games in multi while recording. GT72 is the one i found most interesting but that's not the subject^^

 

The CPU is not powerful in the GX60 thus bottlenecking GPU.
If you really want to get rid of it and then buy the GT72 I guess that's definitely alright. ^^

 

Anyone tried Fallout 4? How is the performance? Thanks in advance for those who will share

 

take a look how much did you pay for GX and how much you will pay or you could for the GT 70 or... GT 72 - in my opinion overpriced. I had GT 72 and I sold it

The two chassis are fairly different, the gt72 has a lot more options.

Do you mean that GX serie is victim of it's succes? Some GX are on Kaveri Cpu FX 7600P, but they are difficult to find.

I got carried away by saying i will sell my GX this christmas. I will not have enough money to by a new computer right now.
But my next one will not be limited by the CPU. When you have CPU bottleneck, there's nothing to do but throw the game in the bin.

 

GT72 has more storage options (PCI-e in the latest models), G-sync IPS displays, display outputs connected to the dedicated card, support for nvidia GPU upgrades, unlocked CPUs are officially offered. Combine this with a larger power brick and it becomes obvious which one is more desirable.

However it is bigger and more expensive.

 

GX is like an entry-level product, since you are moving away from it then I would like to recommend GT72 or GS70, but if budget is an issue then check GE62/GE70 out.

 

kaveri is a crap also.
the GT72 that maker said about is like 3 times more expensive.
GE62 isnt still free of battery drain.
I would like to say lets hope for new a simply GT60 version. it was performance/price stable.

 

This afternoon I took a look on csdiscount, there is 3 MSI with 970M at 900 to 1000 euros. But the CPU is not that good (I5 with 4300 passmark score, nearly what i have with my A10 at 3.9ghz). But i dont like GS/GE serie, they are too slim.

 

The i5 single threaded performance means it still fares much better in games.

 

Recently I bought Lords Of The Fallen for 10 Euros. It works on GX60 on high details without any problem.
Very nice .
And I'm still on a-10-4600m.
And so it will to the end .
Very good gaming laptop for me ( I'm a single player) .
Only a few small disappointments.
Almost everything that I want to play , a play at a high details in FHD on machine for less than 1000 E which I bought in april 2013 . Very nice .

 

Hi Guys I recently decided to acquire myself a new laptop and retire my gx60, are people still interested in AMD Richland A8-5550M ES overclockable CPU's? As I have no use for mine anymore.

Ps. I managed to safely overclock and game at a clockspeed of 3.8 Ghz.

 

Sell this gx with its es cpu. Btw whats voltage at this 3.8? 1.212V?

 

It was at 1.19V i'm pretty sure, but unfortunately I can't sell it as the case is pretty cracked from when I dropped it

 

You are lucky guys ! I must have 1.31V with 3.9ghz to be stable... Or maybe we are not talking with the same units (i am french).
someone played Black ops 3 in multi with this laptop? how is the gameplay on this computer?

 

Maybe someone can help me. I have the A10 and I can overclock it to 3.9 but I need to redoo the GXMod(2) everytime I reboot to have the overclock. Is there a way to put it permanently?

I'm still using the A10-4600, and for the games I play, I'm happy with it.

What graphics drivers are you guys using? I haven't updated in a while, and was wondering if the latest provide any in-game improvements? I saw that AMD Crimson is faster to launch than CCC, but honestly couldn't care less about that (how often do you even launch CCC to make anything faster than 1 second even worthwhile??)

Edit: I should probably point out that I haven't touched the VBIOS or anything magical like that, that's way out of my comfort zone, but I've read the the 7970m is basically the same as the newer card and all it takes is flashing something? Could someone who understands that tell me if it's worth doing anything or has any disadvantages I should be aware of (and maybe point me to instructions of what to do) about that?

 

By the way, this is not okay that MSI discontinues support for our laptop when HD7970m is still one of the strongest mobile AMD cards. Among other things that is why I will slowly finish with laptops ( nVidia does the same with the support to older cards , or even worse ).
Next will be a desktop PC.

 

Generally, MSI provides support for one year throughout the product's lifetime and then when product's life cycle ends they stop providing support.
This is not just MSI but many manufacturers too therefore we cannot expect MSI to provide software updates from Win 7 to Win 8 and then Win 10.
Also, sometimes it's not up to MSI but the component manufacturer such as AMD. For example, if AMD says "oh, we are not going to support Win 8 because this chipset was made for Win 7", and so they don't release a newer version of chipset driver, even if MSI wants to provide support it's still going to be a dead end for them.

For your reference, I do see MSI has provided more than one year of support on GX60 since its release, see below.

I understand all of that, but I think in big part it is a deliberate action to force the purchase of new equipment. (for example nVidia deliberately understates the performance of older cards in the new drivers, and we have a situation when user of 780m have the same performance in xxx games like user of 860m - is it ok too?)
Btw. I still remember problems I had with my XPS M1730 - no sli support for many months.
A bit like buy a car and and after five years you see that there is no proper fuel to it.
I do not expect support for 10 years .
But I bought the equipment (for decent money) which still allows me to play new games, and I think that I have the right to expect the newest graphics driver to optimize performance.
The laptop manufacturers do not provide me this for one reason or another reason, so like I said - next will be a desktop computer .

Of course I know that I can find some drivers on the web, but that's not what this is about now.

What you are saying are true, this is tech field where manufacturers release products gradually.
System manufacturers do try to support products for more than a year while they can, but sometimes they can be limited by resources from component makers.
Both Nvidia and AMD are leaders in gaming graphics industry and they do provide updates for their GPUs. And we all know that Nvidia releases updates more frequently than AMD.

i have been reading the forum since 6 months ago, when my gx60 come home. Is a great forum and your posts have help me a lot.
But now i have a big problem. The laptop turn off and it has not the power led. At the fist moment i thought it was te power adaptor, but it isn't and now i don't know what could it be. anybody know what could be broken?

Take a look at the mother board right at the entry of the power adaptator. It can be a problem of the piece that you put the adaptator in it, maybe it can be a problem of the mother board near to this piece (burning), I had this problem on a laptop with a wrong adaptator.
Maybe you can try to find a full battery to put in the laptop to see if it is not just the adaptator or this piece that i talked.
I am not sure if i am clear (english is not my first language).
At least, test the discrete video card on another GX to see if it is still working because you can sell it around 300 euros...

I am going to see if the problem is in the power plug in, but i think is a mother board problem.
And yes i will sell the graphic card and the apu (a10 5750ES) and everything if i can.

 

At least try to change the CPU, the problem can't be a failure of the graphic card because there is another one in the CPU.
Did you kept the original CPU, you tried to put it in?
If it is the mother board, you can find one on aliexpress for around 130 euros.

Yes i know, as i said mobo problem or power connector problem.

Hello there, I have my msi gx60 since now one year and a half and I am facing a pretty annoying problem. Everything was working perfectly until some day when I turned it on and the fans went on but the screen remained black and the power led began to blink white orange and so on. In the beginning of the event, the computer would start after a random amount of time but today it won't, the led keep on blinking and nothing happen but the fans blowing. I looked for solutions on the internet but apart from the trick about unplug the battery and the power and press the power button for a moment I didn't find a thing an it doesn't worked for me by the way. I read that it could be the battery or the charger but I've tried with an other from an other gx60 and nothing changed. I also read that rebooting the bios would help but I don't know the way to do it without the computer on. I just hope it is not the mother board or something expensive. I really would like to find a way to fix it myself because I use it on a daily basis for professional purpose and at the moment I am kind of stuck...

you know the 8970m card cant be overclocked, i think i found a way to overclock it.

Does anyone know here if it would be possible to put a GTX 570m inside the GX60 and if anything would need to be modified as i want to take the 7970m into a laptop with a better cpu

 

You can't. the format of the card can be a problem, then, you have the heat sink with the prints for memory slots that are proper to one card.
Considering you succeed to deal with theses 2 problems (a great challenge) , you will have to face the fact that the bios of the GX does not recognize the Nvidia card. Then Good luck my friend^^
For the second laptop the problem is the same i think...

You better doublecheck info about 570M. Also you can just buy heatsink from gt60/gt70/gt780.

At first you need to install old 15.XX driver for integrated Gpu and only then install newer for dedicated one.
