no, i just cleaned out the computer for dust and shook it a little. the cable must have gotten lose when cleaning.

I am currently running video driver 15.200.1062.1004 for my 8650G and 7970m. Went to the AMD website and see the latest drivers are:

7979m
17.7.1 Beta
17.4.4 whql

8650g
15.7.1 whql
16.2.1 beta

Currently have Windows 8.1 so I should not have issue with drivers reverting like Windows 10.
I wanted to install the 17.7.1 and 16.2.1 latest drivers using youtube technique from AjvarD .

Any thoughts/concerns recommendations?
Use beta or whql?

As I recall there was a difference between installing 15.7 and 16.2 - read video description.
Also you can read ubilada's comment.
If you want older radeon settings to launch instead crimson then you can ask sinexite from russian msi forum

 

Hello, lately I'm having trouble with GX70. Im getting the Video Scheduler Internal Error with my GX70 whenever it tries to switch to dedicated graphics . I also recently had my original power brick die so I bought a cheap one off eBay.. I hope the cheap power supply didnt damage anything but it was listed with appropriate specs.

Everything was working great and i did the special trick the get the GPU drivers installed. I was playing dirt 3 and happy I've finally been able to use the notebook as intended. Then I tried to use it a few weeks later and bsod.. I have been using win 10 .
I'm considering trying windows 10 fall edition. My only guess is that that the special gpu installation no longer works with latest version of Windows 10. Im hoping it's not a hardware problem..

Does anybody have some pointers?

Make a backup of current OS partition with Macrium Reflect and then try fresh install of earlier Win10 build with offline driver installation. Try using it for few days.
You might need to disable windows Update with O&O Shutup10, Scheduler and Services tweaking and perhaps other stuff because this OS is notorious about updating.

So I've just figured out how to flash the vbios. At this point it seems pretty safe to rule out any hardware problems as everything is reporting back ok

Man windows 10 is annoying. I still have my retail copy of win 7 so I may just go back to that as well.

 

Hello, Firstly I apologize for my English it's not my native language.

I followed AjvarD instructions to update my drivers for my 8650G and 7970M and was so glad to finally find this solution, it worked since the start of the week.
I took the 15.12 NIEG drivers and the latest drivers for the GC : Crimson Relive 17.7.1 for win 8.1

But today, I don't understand what happened but every time i try to launch a game (I only tried from steam) all i get is a black window, even in launchers for games like borderlands 2 and the light of the power button don't turn to red so I don't think that the computer switch correctly to the graphic card.
All of this make me think it's a driver issue.

I'm not very skillful about informatics but I'm learning a bit problem after problem on this machine.
Any advice on how to solve this or confirm that it's really caused by the drivers before I go back to the old catalyst drivers ?

Hi which operating system are you using? In my experience windows 10 just completely doesn't work anymore.

 

Hey, just want to update, after much hair pulling I was able to get windows 7 installed and the GPU drivers working.

Windows 7 doesn't like to do the special .inf file install so easily like windows 10 does. It needed to be installed through the device manager with have disk metheod after uninstalling the standard vga adapter. Also only the 15.7.1 driver and software package would work after installing the first driver (only) for the high performance gpu.

now that it's on win 7, I shouldnt have to worry about the gpu driver install ruining itself automatically.

I have a Msi GX60 1AC

I can confirm the latest working drivers with the Switchable graphics working is Radeon Version Software 16.2.1

I downloaded and tried every combination. Even installing the graphics drivers for the On board and Dedicated separately.
After may tries and errors I ave bench-marked this driver as the best and most recent working driver for our configuration.
As always to get the 7970m working you need to set all settings in ATI software to top performance.
I was able to finish Nioh, Battelfield 1 and even try Call o Duty WW2. lol knew it needed more CPU and VRAM.
I regularly play Battlefield 4 online with this driver.

Windows 8.1 (also working on Win 7)

AMD Radeon HD 7660G + AMD Radeon HD 7970M
Running windows 8.1 x64

And as of about 2 months, I've been having trouble with the GPU. Constantly blue-screening unless I run in safe mode (without the graphics drivers).

I've wiped windows multiple times and tried all the drivers from version 9.x up to the latest, and have the same issue with all. And posted on the AMD forums ( https://community.amd.com/message/2841226).

At this point, I'm sure I've got hardware failure. Which sucks, but let's make do.

1- Someone mentioned to me last night that maybe my Video Bios is corrupt. I don't know if that's possible, but can anyone upload their video bios for me to try? (If that's even possible in safe mode?)

2- Is there any way to disable the card so the laptop is usable (without defaulting to the crappy drivers that come with a fresh copy of windows)? Would removing the card work?

If you are getting BSOD constantly, please do a clean install of OS to make sure. If problem persists and root cause of failure is confirmed to be GPU, then you will need to replace the graphics card.
There's no point to update VBIOS as it's not going to solve the issue. If the GPU worked fine before, why doesn't it work fine now? If it's defective it simply cannot heal itself therefore it needs to be replaced.

 

***OK man, there are a few ways you can try and disable the integrated or dedicated card.
Unfortunately MSI does not have that option in the BIOS.
So you need to accomplish this thru Windows.

This can be done by disabling the problem GPU in your device manager.

As you know by now if you already tried this, when you go into Device manager and disable any one of the graphic adapters it only gets reinstalled and enabled with every restart.
In order to force Windows to only recognize one card and not install it you need to disable Windows Driver updates

After you have done that you can disable any GPU , uninstall it and see if that fixes your problem.

Once again if you are getting BSOD on a clean install it most probably like Kevin said...a hardware failure.
Try disabling each GPU after a restart and see if your problem persists.

PS. I increased my timing in my Bios settings just to see if it would make any difference to performance.
I read many threads on this issue and was told that increasing the timing would have no performance advantages.

Okay so I gave it a go. Increased my Bios timing from the default amount to 256.

I tried running Call of Duty WW2 on my MSI GX60 but got something like 11-16fps. Unplayable.
Then I applied the timing increase and for some reason I can play COD WW2 at 32-36fps now.

So give it a try. Use the game you are trying to run that lags like a mofo and see if there is any performance boost after applying the timing increase.

Kindly report back if this helped you. I might increase it even more lol

I've installed multiple times. Everything works fine until I install catalyst and the gpu gets recognized/orange light turns on again.

I know you're right and there's likely nothing to do, I guess the vbios is just wishful thinking.

Do you mean physically remove the card? I have not tried that. Not sure where I read that it wouldn't work, but I'm going to give it a shot.

 

I also heard that removing GPU will make this notebook unbootable.
Unless disabling it in Device manager doesn't help you could try unlocked BIOS but read someone who has done this first.

 

James is right, the dGPU may need to be disabled in the BIOS before GPU removal, otherwise it may not boot properly.

 

I'm not seeing a setting for this in the (default) BIOS. I don't have much time to test things before the weekend, so will start with reinstalling windows and disabling things in the Device Manager, but if you can point me in the direction for what to look at to disable the GPU in the bios in case that doesn't work, I'd appreciate that.

Hey, Quick question. I somehow got locked out of my bios on GX60 1AC. I've been looking all over the internet and can't find a way to get back into the bios. Or even get a password. Can someone help?

I am though upgrading it to windows 8.1 than to 10 because it won't let me go from 8 to 10 which I find a little weird.

 

You may need to obtain an unlocked BIOS from Svet in order to access that portion of BIOS.

I'm having a lot of issues flashing my bios. I have made my own modified/unlocked bios for GX60 1AC. I have watched a lot of tutorials on how to flash it, but everyone is using a different method. Also people has a file called FLASH.BAT which they execute in MSDOS. but i don't have that. I only have a file called: FLASHEFIX64.NSH or something like that.. Could any guide me through this?

Ignore it all! I managed to unlock my bios for the MSI GX60 1AC all by myself

After that i did this for testing:

1. BIOS>Advanced>CPU Configuration>

PSS Support - change to DISABLED
C6 Mode - change to DISABLED

2. BIOS>Advanced>GFX Configuration>

Integrated Graphics - change to FORCE
PSPP Policy - change to PERFORMANCE

3. BIOS>Advanced>AMD Power Express Configuration>

PX Dynamic Mode Switch - change to DISABLED

Hoping that i get a little more performance. But when i look in the MSI Afterburner it still doesn't use the 7970m all the time.. Any idea?

How did you get past your earlier issue? I have the same one after trying to unlock the bios: `Error 18: unable to start a Secure Flash session`

Edit: I use the EFI shell, slightly different than what you posted, but it works for me with the "original" bios and is what is supported for my machine..

I followed that tutorial, Slightly changed some paths etc and it all works perfectly!

I think this part:
AFUDOS v3.06 (BIOS update utility from AMI for DOS with BIOS security bypass feature)

Is what bypasses the secure flash thingy. Not sure tho.

Hey, My hitman edition laptop is turning off on its own while gaming now. It is not overheating so i don't know whats causing it.
Anyone have any ideas, The HDD light is solid whenever it happens

 

Does anyone have the bios password for the GX60 1AC edition? Somehow for some random reason, it locked me out of the bios.

And also does anyone also have the GX60 1AC factory reset partition that comes with the laptop? I know that you can create a recovery CD or USB with MSI burner recovery. Then you could copy the files and upload them to a MEGA. Then I could download and use it.

I tried setting Integrated Graphics - change to FORCE and disabling everything in the AMD Power Express Configuration page, but it doesn't seem like that's enough.

 

Maybe the power supply is damaged ?

 

The laptop struggles to boot now. It only seems to turn off when using dedicated graphics such as when booting and gaming.

 

Yes, those on the MSI website I have on recovery partition , but they're old. On the AMD website there are no drivers for Windows 8 (7, 8.1 and 10 only)

My laptop will not even boot now, it shuts off about a minute into running even in the bios. What could be failing to cause this?

 

Perhaps CPU is overheating? Have you checked the heatsink and make sure it's secured?

 

When I managed to get it to boot the other day temps 45-50c. But I will open her up and see if anything looks odd

 

Check the power connection of the fan too, to make sure it spins still.
