Not many claims for stolen merchandises, I guess. -

It doesn't really matter. If MSI gave a $hit, they would go after them all.
If you read the thread concerning this, some suggested that the company who had these laptops went out of business and MSI simply wrote all of them off to avoid having to uphold any warranty. -
I am hoping to build a MSI with custom parts. Notice that Darth, you never used any MSI warranty but what if you have trouble with the MB or something? -

If something will go wrong, then 100% its going to be my fault, which warranty does not cover. So no-warranty doesn't mater to me. If my gx720 were to die, it would be a good excuse to get a better laptop.
As far as bare bones go, the gx720 can't be beaten for its price. -

EDIT: I just installed my qx9300. I put ID7 thermal paste on the cpu and gpu, but kept the thermal pads on the chipset and gpu ram. So far, the idle temps for the cpu is in the 40's (noticeably higher then the t9900).
Anyone used setfsb to oc a quad on the gx720 before? -

Hi all,
I bought a MS-1722 ID2 put a T9600 ES CPU in it. Updated Bios to 1.0U. First problem, system freezes when i activate turbo mode with 24% in bios. If i choose 20% i can activate turbo but system will freeze if i go back to normal mode. With 16% all is OK. Max temp i got is 60C. Anyone has a clue about this?.. Thank u for your help -
Set the ram to 667 in bios and you should have no issues with it freezing at 20% and 24%. Let me know if this helps you.
-
Thanx Nacr05,
With ram at 667 i can overclock at 20 and 24% the problem is that system freezes when i switch down!!. I noticed as well that system is slower with 667. What if i swap to the P9xxx series? they are reputed to be more stable no? In this case i might go to p9700. same speed but less consumption and more stablility. What do u think? or we have a motherboard issue here! -

oh btw, make sure your ram is ddr800, 667 gets angry when you try to oc it, also make sure that you dont use the auto ram speed thing, that caused problems in my case, try manually putting it on the 800 setting and try the clocking from there. -

creepy update for my own warranty stuff, apparently my notebook part number doesnt exsist in msi's warranty registration thingy, i went there with my part number, and my serial and everything and it doesnt work for me at all.
and the strange part is i emailed msi and they said barebones dont have any warranty >_>. -
Thanks Automatikjack..
Could be my RAM, 2X2G Corsair 6400 800 "cm4gsdskit800d2" bought from frys. They don't have G.skil nor kington hyperX. I'll try to test with other type. Is the 24% up/down switch working for you? -

All the barebone notebooks carry a 1 year warranty, who ever replied to your email is mistaken. If you needed warranty service you would call tech-support and they would setup an rma. Or if you purchased it through a reseller they can setup the rma for you. -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
@rk, well its not very assuring that whoever controls the rma email account at msi would say something like they did, makes my warranty sound like nothing more than an empy promise, though i dont really plan on using it, i just wanted to see if my notebook was stolen property or not.... -
What brands of RAM do you recommend? I'm eyeing some OCZ or some Mushkin ram myself. And a 7200rpm hitachi hard drive. Also, will any mini pci e wifi card work in the gx720? (I have one from another laptop, mini pci e form factor, 3 antena connections)

The only mini pci e wifi cards that will NOT work are those made by HP (i don't know about dell's).

-
Its located next to the eco, its an e symbol.. thats the turbo button..
-
Anyone know where I could find that spiffy MSI backpack??
-
-
erm my faceplate with the touch buttoms isn't lighting up, so i don't think its working. whats wrong with it?
-
You need the system control manager installed..

Did you install the wireless drivers and bluetooth and such??
-
im running vista ultimate x64 edition. Wifi card was recognized in device manager, but it says "wireless card must be turned on". I did install system control manager, rebooted, buy the faceplate is stil dark (no leds are on) and i can't turn on wifi. what am i doing wrong?
-
They do stay dark til you touch them to enable. Is it ''wireless card'' hooked up right, do you have the wires right??
-
i touched everything and nothing works. I conneted all wires to their corresponding numbers. bios version 1.0N. i really need wifi working. is there any way to turn it on? is there any way to use turbo without the faceplate? under device manager, something is listed as unknown device. uploaded screenshot of dev manager

Nvm Got Them To Work I Am God Of Hacking Lol
now where did you say that turbo buttom was? I see eco, and e with a dash over it (launchs ie) a camarea, a bluetooh, a p1.
-
The e with the dash is the turbo button, BTW how did you get it working????
-
i wiped the connections with alcohol and flipped them. worked. the e next to the eco doesn't put it in turbo, it just launches firefox.

Just be careful, screwing up the bios update will kill the laptop.
Has anyone successfully used setfsb on the gx720? -
cant update im on vista x64

By the way ... The IE button becomes Turbo after Firmware update, not BIOS. And one more thing run the *.bat files of BIOS and Firmware. Good Luck!

I installed a no SP Windows XP with ACHI off..
Does this mean I need to reinstall to get e-sata going? Or can I just turn it on once I get the SP's on there? -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
sp's should enable esata without an issue, as they are designed to add functionality without a full reinstall needed, just dl em and restart, you should be good, if not, grab yourself a sp1 or sp2 cd.
one thing i do have to say about esata is its not really that useful yet in xp from my experiences, ive had two esata hdds and i will say that its easier and just as fast in most cases to use usb, simply because theres no way to safely remove your hardware and xp detection of esata is hit or miss especially if you unplug the device for another and then switch back to it without restarting, also theres no actual program for controlling esata at the moment since there was the xp patch that removed the option to safely remove sata drives, though i used to laugh and consider the possibilities as xp used to give me the option to safely remove my C: drive.
for example esata detection has been as bad as having to go into device manager and search for new devices at least once, to get the drive to show and then wait for windows to figure out what it is, and as for large file transfers, they seem to be quite slow for something thats supposed to be way way faster than the alternative. given its still in its infancy. but for now, i use it as another usb port. -
i can't update. it says ask for a 64 bit version. both the exe and the bat do this.

There's really nothing you can do about it.
