What do you mean bezel? They bezel for the DVD super multi drive? That came with the laptop when I bought it. The rest of the parts came from MSI directly. I must say that the parts were very cheap in price. The keyboard was $16 and the touch sensor panel and strip was $26 combined.
I dont know where to locate a 4850, they are very rare and impossible to find. That is why I went with a 3870. the preformance is just as good as a 4850. The only other card I know of that can be bought is the GTS 160m for $346 USD.

@Quake, sorry for the long response time, heres the info for the screen i got, LG LP171WU1, its a WUXGA Glossy screen, works beautifully in my 1722, replacement isnt too hard with this laptop, but be careful how you pry or you can bend the aluminum. Thats the only downside to replacing screens on this laptop, the other thing thats an issue speficially with the panel that i got, idk if its the same for all LG LP171WU1 panels, but there is a metal ring on the top of the panel a little bit off from the center, that blocks the built in mic, i popped it off using my leatherman, if you have a pair of aluminum shears itll come right off with no damage to the screen, i just flexed mine till it broke off.
The screen on the other hand look BEAUTIFUL, the standard samsung screen was nice, but was dark, this screen is bright and lush, games look amazing once again. and yes it is a 60hz screen for anyone interested... First thing i did when i got it was boot up 2142 and shot the hell outa stuff.
search for that model on ebay, theyre nice screens, mine came from a dell precision m9x something, was about 80GBP or like $130 something. Totally worth it.
I got a bit of mixing and matching coming up here when DHL stops being retarded and delivers to my address.
gonna drop my q9000 and 4850 into my ID2 and swap my other goodies into my advent 7555 gx. seems a bit easier to just buy a laptop with the 4850 in it and gut it.
Anyone see the 729 out at all? that forum is dead, id sure love to see when those start popping. regardless next june im gonna prolly grab whatevers got the new 5800 series cards in or maybe that sexy 4870x2 in the asus w90v GDDR5 FTW! -
Speaking of 2142, was anyone able to figure out how to run BF games on the 59 Hz display? I tried several tricks that didn't work, and I ended up giving up.
-
sorry to go off topic here but i got a drive letter problem and its really starting to get anoying...this is whats happening
in my computer it shows removable disk y see pic and in disk managment it doesnt show removable disk y allso see pic, i really dont know whats going on but i just want to remove the drive .If any one can help i would be soo greatfull
-
Why is the display running at 59hz?

Well, i don't know if it's a bug or not mine is also running on Hz.
No issue so far with any prog, game, media file or other detected. -
Are you using your Iphone with original software or other. -

@ Cat,
ive done some pretty extensive research into why exactly the monitors are doing this and apparently from vista on there is an issue where the operating system (yes this includes 7 as well) forces the monitor to run in the VESA standard for new monitors, it has something to do with media, but basically a long story short, it forces the monitor to 59.97 or something like that, and its still technically below 60hz, which is required for games like Battlefiel2/2412 and the game refuses to run in any other Hz, it will CTD!
this problem is created in one of many ways, and usually is by manufacturers who usually have incomplete, improperly configured, or etc etc, setting in their EDID (or monitor bios of sorts) which displays all the information of the monitor to the OS so it knows its proper operating modes. In the event the edid doesnt exist is incomplete or whatever, lots of times a driver specific monitor driver exists, anyone remember when they first got widescreen monitors, ie samsung/viewsonic....?
this symptom is somewhat similar, however there is no short fix, you basically have to force the monitor out of 59.9 whatever and into a 60+ to get the desired result, and thats only TRULY possible by downloading your EDID, correctly determining the settings for your montior and then flashing your monitors bios, risking your screen and ending up with nothing at all.
Interestingly enough, this problem was not previously encountered by people with XP because XP didnt care what the edid was sending and let the user set the monitor up whatever way they wanted to or it staying at a standard 60. That in short is the problem.
As for Dimartino, right click on the y: drive and lookat what it says in the hardware tab for it, its probably the 02 micro flash memory controller for your memory cards, its possible they wont show up in the disk management tab because theres no disk in the controller to manage, however some ways the softwares set up the removable disk drives will stay visible with a drive letter even though theres no media in it. check it and tell me your results. -
Interesting, i did occasionally have a problem where refresh rate would completely crash all the hardware on my machine, (as in everything would just stand still, screen would go black, and thats just it, nothing would do anything, operations stood still completely.)
I did find that the updated CCC's seemed to have helped all solve all my issues, hmm, has anyone tried bios updates, vbios updates and such?
Also see if the manufacturer has released any driver files for the pannel itself, i know that release them for there monitors, but not sure about manufacturers and there pannels, instead of plain old generic.
Battlefield 2142 also tended to have alot of shortcut alterations, prehaps we can force a lower refresh rate? -
-
i think it is a virtual drive buit i cant delete it its just not coming up under disk managment.
-
what software have you installed?
-
deamond tools and alchol 120 % i removed alcholl 120% AND deamond tools and it removed the virtual disk that was use with the programs .lol im very close from re installing vista

unfortunately cat, 2142 as well as bf2 were made for windows xp before these issues, however instead of being smart they hardcoded a refresh rate requirement and the standard for most montors is 60 at th eminimum, its very rare to find anything lower, so this problem is a low priority fix for them. Strangely enough for the machines that suffer from it, the problem can be easily fixed by switching back to xp, then you can easily force the full 60 and play 2142 easily.... As i did for a while... until i switched my panel out.

MSI still hasn't fixed overclocking the quad cores with their turbo function........
and automaticjack, how hard was it to replace the LCD screen with the LG one you bought? Did you have to mod, or was it direct swap? I've noticed that the stock screen is a bit dark too, and would like to upgrade. its still WUXGA right, 1920x1200? -
hey im also having trouble with far cry 2 it comes up with the following error
-
Interesting, which drivers are you using?
-
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
dimartino, upgrade your drivers, dont worry about using msi specific ones, grab the latest from nvidia, itll help, also make sure you get the os specific ones, modded drives might give this problem also. if youre running into strange errors like that its possible that that has to do with an incompatibility with vista and that installer on some part, ea has lots of those errors pop up, try compatibility mode, or run it in administrator mode.
@tecnos
The screen replacement wasnt too hard, a few pages back i posted an in depth review of the difficulty, this particular screen came from a dell m9000 or something like that, and had an the dell spec mounting brackets, which i had to take off before the bezel would seat properly around the screen. other than that the screens fully compatible, and alot brighter, Every screen thats made has a glossy and matte version, its usualy designated by the last two digits/numbers in the screen model. my particular one was glossy as these screens seem to look better for some reason. res is indeed 1920x1080 @60hz. -
hi ive downloaded the drivers off nvidia it was round about 115 mb it will only install audio driver in setup ??? ive done heaps of vista updates and still no diffrence
-
This is normal for this game, the hardware detection tool which is used in the Far Cry 2 game is designed to detect desktop hardware.
The message is just to notify you about the missing o not up to date driver.
Is the game working? -
And what about mounting brackets? Please describe a little, cause I don't want to waste my mine -
EDIT: Sorry I wrote this in haste. In full, sometimes when I went to go to Catalyst Control Centre on my GT725, it wasn't detecting hardware compatible to the installer, and so I could only install I think the audio driver; the display driver and Catalyst Control Centre was never an option on the list. Sounds like whats going on with yours. -
thats what i was starting to think also the game runs on very high settings with turbo (doesnt lag) but fresses and closes the game after 20 minutes of playing.
-
Extract the driver if possible then force install the INF of the driver.
-
Has anyone by chance tried using a hdd bay instead of a cd drive for the 1722? I really don't want to put a cd drive in my new 1722 since I have a external one already and I use my external passport to install everything.

-
can you point me in the direction of a sight that sells the hdd bay needed to do it?

You can get 2 versions, one that fits most notebook drives, or the one that fits the bigger western digital drives. -
awesome thanks for the link.

Hey,
I get lots of crackles with the MSI GX720 connected to the RME fireface 800
http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_fireface_800.php
Does the MSI have Texas Instrument chipset? I would love to keep the MSI, but
im thinking about getting macintosh for being able to connect to the Fireface or a metric halo ULN-8
Cheers! -
make sure your realtek drivers are up to date thats about all anyone can suggest. You can try also turning off bluetooth and wifi and see if that helps.
-
Thank you,
Do you know what kind of chipset the GX720 has? -
I dug up your gt628 review darthbane and the same clock generator setting works perfect on my 1722. @ 2.56ghz and climbing.
southbridge is ich9-m -
-
needs bigger pictures lol. Is that a q9000?
run it at 1280x1024
-
well i will adjust the view and i will run the test again as requested.

I think that 9600m could be pushed further easily.
Nice 324 bus speed. I'm hoping my cpu can hit that.
Thanks for posting. -
Impressive, score. I'd be tempted to push my 9600m gt more if I wasn't planning on selling it. I'm really surprised how far I can push my cpu though, I was almost able to get it up to 333 for the bus speed, but it didn't seem 100% stable.
install xp and I bet your score will be over 7k. Its rather surprising to me how high quality ram really helps overclocking laptops.
Heres mine running at 333fsb I can push it more for benchmarking but I don't think its as stable as I would like it to be.
-
how would u get that higher overclock....wot tool do u use?
-
I used nibitor and setfsb, looks like RePaRaQu used setfsb and ntune probably.
-
could i please have a download link for ntunes for the msi gx720 ..see how hard i can push the 9600 gt
-
@Flowdesigner,
I dont think its Texas Instruments (the firewire chipset). I had the same problem as you - tried a lot of things. First get DPClatency checker http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml
Its the spikes that causes clicks and pops! Try disabling LAN, wi-fi, bluetoth, internal audio, modem and ACPI-compatibel control method-battery in device manager. I found that wifi and battery made the biggest difference. I never got it fully working in Vista though, but it its rock stable in XP with only lan, wifi and battery disabled (it´s still able to run on battery, only the powerchecker is disabled). Try uploading a picture of your DPC latencys... -

what could be is that its a power issue, unclean power can sometimes result in strange occurences like that, ive seem something probably similar with usb speakers especially when your battery is charging, try running it on battery alone, or without other devices connected in its place. another cheap option to try for a fix is to get one of the expresscard firewire cards and see if that makes a difference. but it sounds like unclean power to me. though like t2 is suggesting, if its not constant it could be wifi and bluetooth. idk about battery but ive never used it before.
