Try uninstalling USB root hubs in device manager then retart, and if you have to pick install all the drivers from an automatic location.

thought about that, any noticeable changes in performance? im really impressed with the gui in 7 so i haven thought too much about killing it, since ive got performance to spare. just a quick question, anyone here play with undervolting? im looking at putting my quaddie on a diet to improve battery efficiency and give the 4850 more cooling power. im looking through the undervolting guide, anyone here got any temps or ranges that i can expect?
also if anyone cares i found a rather impressive battery monitoring tool called batterybar, its meter is fairly accurate though i would like to have a 7 compliant battery recalibration tool, anyone have any suggestions?
the one i have works well to the extent of actually showing the mWh used by the computer and the charge rate of the battery, as well as max capacity and the battery wear. check it out if you want something more than just a percentage... -
Undervolting the q9000 works great, you wont notice the 4850 much cooler but the northbridge will take a significant hit

hey guys im running into some problems with installing that 4870 in my laptop, massive heat issues, i'd repost but then it would probably be considered spam, please hop over to the 725 forums if you have any suggestions. the link to the exact page is here

hey guys, long time I didn't have to post here, my laptop is working fine other than the small little issue where i had to disassemble it completely because the dc jack broke and I was getting contact errors because of it
I removed everything then the motherboard and desoldered broken dc jack and re-soldered a new one which I got from ebay for like $5.
anyways, I'm thinking about changing the LCD panel to one that is LED backlit. Is it possible? I read that some of you already changed the LCD panel to a new one but if i remember correctly it wasn't led backlit.
thanks!

quick edit: found this one, might be okay for the 1722?

Or maybe the one for the 17" macbook pro! that's a 16:10 1920x1200 panel, with led -

I'm not entirely sure If you can or not, I debated trying it myself, however I couldn't confirm that the connection on the backside of the laptop was the same, furthermore the standard LCD screens are ccfl, and draw their power from a small inverter at the base of the screen. I've only replaced one LCD screen which was in an hp mini and I can't remeber if there wad an inverter or not, though from previous reserch I couldn't confirm it either way.
Now the problem is, If led screens pull thei power through that cable instead of the inverter then the power may be inefficient. What I can say is that the monitor cable at least looks the same physically. So there's a good chance it sill have the same pinout.
Take a good look at the back of that MacBook pro screen; if there's a little Cable on the bottom of the screen with two wires usually red and white and a little plastic plug, looks like one of the little 3-pin fan connectors then there's a pretty good chance that it will work.
I'll be starting a new thread here in a bit when I get off work showing how to disassemble the screen of this laptop. It's really quite easy, you just have to be gentle in certain areas. -
I'M BACK!!!!!!!!! Good god if i had to use a lenovo s10 netbook for one more day i was going to scream!!!!!!! Incoming pics shortly of my lappy.

If there was a few things I could change on the 1722, it would be a backlit keyboard ftw!, a better lcd screen, or if the technology was there when they released it, an led screen, and pick a better colour than that ugly red (I know, barebones were sold with white). Other than that, they're pretty much everything you could ask for.
Oh, and a Radeon HD5850...
EDIT: @ Boomer, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for in that attachment, but yes it does look good. Did you spraypaint it or something? And why in the posting rules does it say you are not allowed to edit your posts, post new threads etc.? -
my id2 motherboard died and i snagged up an id1. i installed the black touchpad bezel from the id2 on the id1 and got rid of the awful out of place looking grey one. result= one sleek looking all black machine lol.

Hello guys,
I haven't followed this thread recently and I noticed that there is new BIOS ( click) version for our machines- 1.10. Any of you tried it yet?
-
Apparently it adds some energy saving stuff . Been using it since it was released and working great so far.
-
Thank for that Dead2th3world. I was asking because when I used 1.0z it increased the speed of the fan and it became loud. Not so much, but louder than before.

Anyone here know if I'd be able to successfully use it on my advent 7555? I'll prolly do a 7555 bios dump here soon if anyone knows hoe to compare it and see if there'd be any difficulties going back to a regular msi bios, or one that'll allow me a little oc headroom.
-
It should work but bare in mind that setfsb doesn't work at all with MSI's Bios.
If you want to OC , then stick with the advent's bios.
If you are still willing to flash , then you can use this : http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=116721.0 it will also make a copy of your actual bios before flashing to the one you want.
Don't forget to drop your advent's bios here -
-
-
Will do soon then. Just didn't want to update for the sake of updating. I always let others test new driver/bios versions before I take the plunge myself
-
Bios and firmware I don't mind testing , it's the stupid ATI drivers that I hate to test ..
-
Yeah, even if you do use a driver cleaner, I don't see how it can COMPLETELY remove the drivers, if you decide that the old drivers are better and decide to revert that is.
I always check tweaktown for reviews on the newest ati drivers. They test them on about 5 different cards, across a few games, and different settings and resolutions, to give you definite figures so you can safely decide to upgrade. -
Yeah tweaktown is a good source , I also check the release note , if there's no fix or performance related to my card then I stay clear ..
Dude , How did you input "I like , love laptops" under your user name ? Been trying to get rid of that "notebook evangelist" tag for ages ! -
Scroll about half way down the first post.
You need 700 posts, then you get upgraded to a senior user, and you can change your title. -
Damn it ! still some way to go
thanks.

The next 150 posts will fly by
EDIT: Nice pic too, you really go for the freaky looking avatars don't you! -
That's my style .. I guess it's the Metal influence.

First off, major props to Rorschach! I mailed him my 1722, he upgraded my BIOS and the lappy arrived in perfect condition.
My next stumbling block. OS installation. I have installed the Sony/Optiarc AD-7590S-01 as my optical disk drive and a WD Scorpio Black Mobile Hard Drive (320 GB, SATA 7200 RPM) as my hard drive. The HD is auto-detected by the BIOS as a Primary IDE Master, but not the ODD (Serial ATA Not Detected). The ODD is getting power (opens and closes).
What am I missing? -

Check and make sure the cd drive is seated properly, theres a screw to remove it near the back of the drive under the main panel, should be right next to the wifi card in the rim, a reseat should solve the problem.
-
-
Funny man Rorschach!
My first inclination was a seating issue. When I installed the ODD, I mounted the bracket to the ODD and secured the bracket to the 1722 screw Auto described. The BIOS did not recognize the ODD, so I removed the bracket and re-inserted the ODD. Still no luck.
So today, I will continue to re-insert the drive to see if I can get the BIOS to recognize. There is no driver I need to add to the BIOS to get the drive detected? -
I have ODD for MS-1722/1651 that will remain as extra, after a week or two. If you want I can sell it to you. -
There is only a single plug for power data no? Or two separate plugs?
-
Options 1:
Load default settings for the BIOS by entering the BIOS and then pressing F9, then F10 to save and exit.
Options 2:
Locate the BIOS version and the EC Firmware version report them back here and wait for any reply or comment.
Additional info:
Open the bottom cover, check the mainboard near the ODD location is there something installed seated on the mainboard which looks like a small connector, if so this might be causing the issue (warranty repair centers by MSI will solder this connector on the board to check the output code error which the BIOS is reporting)
Extra:
Try pressing F11 to get the BOOT ORDER menu and select any other boot device just to see if the BIOS hardware detection is working.
Extra+:
Remove the HDD and insert another type/brand/version and check if the ODD is detected and if the OS will start installing. (if so the HDD and ODD are incompatible one way or the other) -
BIOS build Ver 1.10
EC Build Ver 4.30 -

>.> ahzroe you never answered my question have you actually tried installing the os?
-
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
I see what youre getting at rorschach, theres a possibility that the post skips even looking for the cd drive, i was reading something today in laptop magazine about the battle for the 1 second boot, and theyre talking about the hardcore optimizations of certain manufacturers including msi, to slimline post tests and reduce overall boot times, id imagine searching for the odd would be a waste of time and cycles,
az, does the drive even respond at all? like any power, blinking lights? or is it just not listed in the post, check the bios also for listing. -
Rorschach,
No, I have not yet attempted to install an OS. I was looking for a guide last night and ran out of time. I will try that next.
Automatikjack,
The ODD does respond. It opens and closes. It is not listed in the post and I check the BIOS for listing. It is not detected.
Thanks everyone.... -
>.> what do you need a guide for? Just put the OS cd in and boot it up.
