Well, me and my dad sat down and opened it up, found one bad broken connection on the dc jack, easily bridged it, and it works again! thank god it was an easy fix this time! However, my bluetooth button does not come on, any fix?
-
Happy to hear that technos. Did you have this problem with BT before opening it?
By the way what is the performance of 9600GT on WUXGA screen? I'm planing to buy one also. -
Technos-
1- possibly broke a trace in the flex cable
2- pop the button board back off and reseat the flex cable
3- inspect flex cable "end" and make sure the any of the silver connection points on the end havent folded back or sheared off -
It worked before. I will do that later on today. 1920x1200 is beautiful on the gx720, 9600m gt does a great job! The only things is I wish it had a better quality picture and brightness, and my dad isn't so shure about upgrading the LCD. I would never upgrade below 1920x1200.

good call boomer,
genna, with regards to using a wuxga screen, theyre beautiful, and work great, however most newer games will bring your 96 to its knees! leaving you dissatisfied, i havent tried ocing mine or anything like that but im sure with care you could squeeze out some more performance.
the older battlefied series works flawlessly however, and so does css and half life series. -
@ Automatikjack,
I really like how HD movies look like on the current screen (WSXGA) and I'm sure that it would be outstanding watching HD movies on WUXGA screen. And now about gaming - I know that 9600M GT won't be able to do good performance. That's why I bought HD4850/1G from Darth Bane and I really hope that it will arrive lately on Friday, so to be possible to put it this weekend. And if HD4850 doesn't do the job I'll wait for GT770 -
TI chipset, anyone? I have 4 days left of Windows7 RC to decide to get a Mac.
-
Thank you, its working good now actually with 256 ms latency, I i love the horsepower of my quad 2,54 cpu, but I think a dual 2.8 macbook will give 64 ms latency, but off course less plugins running -
All with internal FW.
BTW the macbook(pro?) has a LOT longer batterytime -
I set the buffer size in the RME fireface800 to 256 samples.
One big problem I have though is bluescreen shutdowns, especially when I run my DAW (LIVE) and also stream from youtube or myspace, its really irretating.
Anyone else use RME Fireface with the GX720? -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
The 720 runs like a champ with wuxga and a 4850 1gb dropped in it, you just have to make sure you get the right heatsink for it, as a 9600gt heatsink won't fit unfortunately. I'll let you know if I'm able to get something going with rk.
As for fps that card runs mass effect in native maxxed fluidy! It's quite beautiul. -

Your best bet is to call rk computers and get a replacement from them, msi refuses to sell parts of that kind to customers. I'm looking at getting the one for the gt735 as it's a perfect fit. I'll be calling rk today, I'll let you know what I find out.

thats just the thing rorschach i cant find the bloody things on ebay at all. just recently found a replacement panel for the bottom of my lappy, so i can bore some holes into the bugger and get some decent airflow to cool this beast.

Well maybe i can be any help, i am going to sell my MS-1722 ID1 notebook.
I don't know for sure if it's going to be barebone or with components but I am saying good by to my old friend.
If any is interested, please feel free to contact me.
I know this isn't the correct thread to place this info, but we all share the same interested and love for the MS-1722 whiteboook/MSI model so it's just a notification.
For all the MS-1722 was the successor for the MS-172x models, and more is coming based on the MS-172x model line so the story will continue. -

right i got a advent 6555 had for about a year now... i flashed with the MSI 1.1 Bios and i notice the overclock option is in the bios... but since the advent doesnt ahve the turbo is there a software solution to activate it? surley its only a matter of operation the board controller that the overclock is linked to. i dont know how to wrtie software for this tho but im sure theres someone out there who can/ has
-
Big mistake , now you won't be able to oc your quad at all. Revert back to the advent bios and use setfsb.
-
RePaRaQu do You have such a heatsink (from GT725/GT735) for sale?
-
is there a bios available with all the options unlocked so u can do a bios overclock? i miss that from my custom desktop... bios could change EVERYTHING.... seems on the advent and msi ones u cant change ANYTHING
-
Sorry, cant help you any further. -
By the way , using turbo to OC a quad will only increase it by 3-4% .. mostly 75-85mhz which is kinda lame.
You ain't got much of a choice , either revert back to the advent's BIOS or use a 1722 barebone ones.

I really wish tom still worked there, this gpu dilemma is killin me. i finally got a bracket for my other 4850, now i just need a heatsink assembly and im golden... anyone know if the gt628's heatsink will work? its designed for a 98gs....
-
@ Automatickjack
Where did you buy your bracket for 4850 from? I need one also. -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
i just happened to get lucky and get one from a guy on the forums, he ordered an extra from alienware.
the p/n : ALWH-4DGAB0439-C40M -
well, can I order too? Can you send me a link? Or may be he can order another one?!? There is no such part at eBay
-
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
it was just a random dude who had an extra, sorry buddy.
all the mounting brackets are are basically the same as motherboard risers, with flimsy aluminum between them, just buy a pack of assorted laptop screws on ebay, take the risers and cut off the screw part, stick em to the back of the card with some tape or plastic glue, and voila! or make your own mounting screws with small nuts and bolts, it wont be pretty but itll never fall off ^^ -
^ You are right, I just wanted to be more professional
-
- Go to Device Manager, FireWire Contoller.
- Choose Driver, Update Driver Software
- A list pops up that (on our systems) showed three entries:
OHCI-compliant 1394 Host controller
OHCI-compliant 1394 Host controller (legacy)
OHCI-compliant Texas Instruments 1394-Host controller
- From these three select "OHCI-compliant 1394 Host controller (legacy)"
(qoute from another forum....)
Did you decide about MBP versus GX720? -
My final pitch: The GX720 will be a much more capable machine than ANY macbook pro. No MBP offers quad core, and the gx720 does. That alone is a practically saying double power (if your applications, which most video/music/graphics do use multithread) and much more friendly to future upgrades and mods. Not to mention it runs OS X and windows without a hitch.
-
Agreed, i'm a fan of both,. but the MSI machine undoubtably has the high ground here.

Viper in the marketplace has two 4850 1gb cards for sale! $450 US, you guys better get em real quick before theyre gone!!
-
Is THIS screen compatible with gx720?
-
Funny, Quake I know that someone asked about this screen before ... and when i did some search guess who it was? - It was you!
So Automatikjack told you then that it's compatible. Here.
-
Yeah, but there is several revision, that's why I ask...
-
Jack, I apologize for having to do this.
I can't find what heatsink I need for the 1722 anywhere in this thread. What did you use for yours (Gt725, 728, 627? What?)
I can't find the right one to look for, although I HIGHLY doubt it's any of the 62X ones, now that the 4850s are popping outta the woodwork -
@ phreakonaleash
You need heatsink either of GT725 or GT735, they come with HD 4850 card inside. -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
you can also mod one using a gt627 heatsink, im using the heatsink from my advent 7555, so i have an extra 4850 on hand and no other heatsink to use it in my advent =[

Agreed, while we can't discuss installing OSX on the 1722 (It is against the forum rules), the barebone generic chassis coupled with the ability to pick and choose what you want to install really lets you research and locate compliant parts to ensure optimal OS compatibility across many operating systems.
The lack of what is usually useless bells and whistles is a plus in this case for hardware support. -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
hey electro, how are you liking your 1727? im tempted to get the gx740... can you do me a favor take a look at your heatsink, do you think itd fit a 4850? Everythings lookin pretty dried up, short of spending $80 to rk for a heatsink i have to mod myself.
-
-
@ Automatikjack,
Well about the heatsink ... It seems like MXM Type A and B are using same hole distance like MXM 2.1 Type III and higher, or 46mm distance. I conclude this just looking the pictures, no measurement were taken. Somebody have to clear this out. -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
-
50.8mm for your Radeon HD4850?!? For sure not!!! Your card uses MXM 2.1 Type III slot and I have measured it myself, cause I had one and somehow it blow up
Now I'm waiting for a replacement.
You can see the specifications here. At the fourth column is shown mounting hole distance. Unfortunately they don't showed this distance on the new MXM 3.0 slot. They just mentioned that the hole distance is same for both "Type A" and "Type B". Here. -
Hello,
Can one you guys who own a 1722 ID2 do me a favor? In order to get my laptop to boot a few days ago, I reset my BIOS by removing the CMOS battery. Now, the laptop is not having any issues but I am just feeling a general lag. Can any of you check what is the value of the parameter called PCI Latency Timer in your BIOS? Mine in 64 at the moment.
The lag i am feeling is with respect to mouse responding a bit late or the screen scrolling a little late or a file read or deleted a little late. Nothing really bad. Except my fan is now on high speed almost all the timethough the temperatures are just normal.
Thanks! -
Mines at 64, sometimes i change it to 96 though, both have respectable performance,
Try a defrag, ccleaner/reg clean.
System in high performance
Aaaand, if your fan is in high speed, temps won't be normal, but it depends how "High speed" you mean, get us a picture with hwmonitor when your doing a few of your standard tasks.

Hi!
Is it possible to replace the DDR2 ram with a DDR3 ram? if so how much is the max it can handle?
Also, can I replace my 9600m GT with other high-end ones like GTX 280 or 260m or so?
Thank you guys!
