    Hi,

Is it possible to modify my GX720 quad core to work in a pro audio production setup? I have no prior experience in building PCs. Will changing the firewire chipset to TI be sufficient, and would that be possible?

Anyone tried the RME fireface UC with the GX720?

I would like to get below 128 sample latency running Live - especially for guitar playing

Can i put the hard drive from my GX720 into a Macbook pro?
I just purchased a Macbook pro 17" core i7 with 500gb 5400rpm HD, and my GX720 has a 7200rpm 350gb and I would need the fastest on the Mac. Thanks

(edit - would the macbook pro 500gb 5400rpm HD fit into the GX720)

I hate to bring up an old post, but I'm wondering why you didn't just use nibitor to edit the vbios and change the Perf. entry for the throttle clocks with the Perf. entry for the extra or 3Dclocks?

Like they did in this thread:

So, what program are you using? My lappy came with CrazyTalk Cam Suite. Most webcam programs have a snapshot feature, sometimes linked with the IM function. Cameriod is a free program for taking pictures with a web cam. Here's a usefull write up at eHow.

    I have a msi 1722 ID 1 With win7 64bit operating system
I have been trying to find drivers for mass storage controller to remove question marks in Device Manager.

Also, intel 5100 wireless card is installed with proper drivers but it does not seem to be working.
Should any of the buttons under the power on button be lighting up to indicate wirelss is working?

    Thanks in advance.

Alt+Insert features are not available in MSI machines with iX series processors (and HM55 or PM55 chipsets). These features are only available in older laptops with Core2 series CPUs and PM45 chipset.

Probably You need to install MSI Display Driver, not the official driver from NVIDIA. I would also try to set up the second display in NVIDIA Control Panel, rather than using fn+f2.

Someone did and it worked, but it was an ES card so they had issues.

There isn't much to write a guide about. You need the bigger heatsink for the 4850 or 3870, if you have a 9600m GT now then you'll need to find a new one.
The only problems you might come across are clearance issues on the power components with the heatsink because it was for the 4850 and you can probably fix that pretty easily by bending and/or cutting the copper.
And theres a chance the card wont run at full clocks, you can fix this by modding the VBIOS with nibitor and flashing with nvflash, its not difficult.

I had an ES FX 3700M card in mine. The heatsink of 4850 just fits perfectly without any modding. Mine started at full clocks, but it couldn't install nVidia driver for it. The driver just said that I don't have nVidia card inside :). Flashing the BOIS with another one from real card (not ES) did't help. Anyhow there are guys here who said that by modding the driver it is possible to install it, but better not jump for ES. I don't know what card Moral Hazard has, but he succeeded to run his at full clocks in his GT627, so it should be possible in GX720 also.

    Hi everybody,

I'm currently facing a huge problem with my MS-1722-id1, which is suffering from a bad EC flash (it doesn't event turn on anymore).

I bought a SPI flash programmer in order to repair this, but I need a complete EC dump, because it appears that EC firmwares contain only partial updates.

Could someone send me the complete dump of his EC ? It is obtained using the
ENEFLASH.exe utility which can be found in EC firmware zip files. I've attached a zip file containing both EC firmware and ENEFLASH to this post.

The command to get a dump is :
    ENEFLASH /DUMP EC.bin

This needs to be done in DOS mode.

Is there a good samaritan here ? I desperately need your help because a 17" black brick is not very useful :D

Thank you very much for your support

    Hey defbond,
I have mainboard for MS-1722 ID2. If you think that it might be of any use to you I can sell it to you. I think that ID1 and ID2 have same housing, so it won't be a problem.

Hi Genna, thank you very much for your answer !

Luckily I was able to solve my problem with the default firmware image,
and when I desperately solder the EC flash memory back on the mainboard,
I was able to power on the laptop (you can't imagine my joy :D ).

Well as a conclusion I'd say that you do not have to bother yourself with
the -B4C parameter passed to ENEFLASH : using any spi flash programmer (I used the Blackcat usb programmer) and a stock firmware image, the laptop
    comes back to life :)

    Again thanks !

    Hey everyone,
Not sure if this thread is dead, but i want to give it a shot. I have been searching all over the net for info. Anyhow I want to upgrape my GPU, I am looking at the GeForce GT 435M or 550M. I am lost. Any help please. I guess my question is can I upgrade to either one of these, or am I better of rebuilding a new pc? Open to any suggestions.

I suppose you are talking about notebook here ... considering 9600M GT :)
And just give more details what notebook you have.
If it is MS-1722 (considering the fact you write here) then your best upgrade is ATI Mobility Radeon 4850 or nVidia Quattro 3700M anything different of those two is either lower or almost the same class, or incompatible with that notebook. Those two cards you mention are incompatible.

    @Ice,
More than likely your best bet is to look for a Mobility 4850, the alienware cards work perfrectly in this laptop. However, that's the easy part. You need to source a heatsink that will work properly with your new card, if you can find a GT725 heatsink then you can just drop it right in with minor adjustments.

Though those are insanely hard to find. Your next bet is to either get an Alienware card with the stock alienware heatsink attached and try to mod it. by desoldering the heatpipe and attaching it to the one that came with your 9600gt. I would say get that heatsink first or get an extra to work on before dropping a couple hundred on a card you could potentially not use.

Also even if you get it all in there, there are still complications, these cards run HOT, like upwards of 80-90C under load, but they can take it. To be sure I modded my bottom plate for maximum airflow, which I can post a guide to.

But I think your best bet may be to try and pick up an EX7405 or a GT740, or a barebones model. Since they will be less outdated and parts are more readily available for those laptops.

    Hello,

I bought my ms-1722 from cyberpowerpc. The dc jack started failing recently. Apparently "1 year parts and 3 years labor" really means "1 year everything" even if I offer to pay for the replacement jack.

So, anyway, saw multiple pages where I could buy the part, but I've had no luck finding a guide to disassemble the laptop. I removed the screws that I could on my own, but didn't want to risk damage by doing anything further without a guide.

Did a thread search for "guide", all of the links that were posted are dead. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My jack has broken 8 times now. Its always this one little solder bridge on the right side of the jack. So what I did is open up the bottom plate. Look for where the power jack and the casing meet, and CUT AWAY AT THE PLASTIC OR MELT IT AWAY WITH A SOLDERING IRON! It grants you access to the power jack without having to continue to disassmble the laptop. hook up the power adapter (disconnected from power of course), and wiggle it to see where the break in the connection is. Add a little bit of flux and solder to it and it will work again. DO NOT BUY A NEW JACK. I made that mistake, and it is IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE due to the tiny solder points on the board making the old one impossible to remove safely.

Does anyone know the correct firmware I need to flash my ms-1722 so the camera, wifi, and assignable button (P1) behave as normal for an id1? MSI took down the page and only offers the liveupdate5, which doesn't help me at all.

I believe it is flashed with 1722ems1.432 currently ( link), which is the latest for the gx720 (that has the touch panel, which I, of course, do not)

    Thanks!

About a year a ago I bought a MS 1722, it's the one with the Core Duo, P7350 2.00 processor. Ive noticed that other variations of this model have much better processors, and also that they are considered "barebones". My question is, is their a way for me to replace my processor with a better one? I know that the case for laptops is often no. But since it is a bare bones I do not know if my laptop has the potential for upgrading. Can some one please help me.

You can easily upgrade the CPU in MS-1722. The best one would be Core2Quad QX9300. You just need to make sure, that the BIOS is 1.0S revision or higher. Earlier BIOSes do not support quadcore CPUs.

Hey guys, long time ms-1722 (ID2) owner here.
Long story short, my laptop's been going strong for 2+ years but recently the LVDS / LCD cable has failed me.

I've done google searches for the part number and looked all over ebay for a month now, and there doesn't seem to be anyone selling one--well, I did find one, but the asking price was outrageous. (136 GBP / $124 USD)

My question is, Anyone here (or knows someone) selling the LVDS / LCD cable for this laptop (part # K19-3036006-H39) for a reasonable price?

    Thanks.

    120W should be enough.

If You have a dulacore CPU in it, then 120W will suffice, if You have a quadcore CPU, I recommend at least a 150W PSU.

How many people here still rocking their ms-1722? I have mine set up as a second comp next to my desktop...the 1920x1200 screen still looks great, and with mouse without borders, it is really useful.

well this baby still rocks for me. I use it mainly in my studio hooked up to two monitors - but the 9-cell battery also made it portable :). Gaming is also still possible, although not in high resolutions :-(
