For those of you that use Svet's vbios tool, he has released version .92a
    The changes are below.

    - Allow P1 state clocks modifications for mobility Series for cases:

    560M[Type1, Type2], 570M[Type1, Type2] in both Synchronized[GPC,LTC,XBAR] & Asynchronized [GPC only] GPU Clocks adjust.
    560M[Type1, Type2], 570M[Type1, Type2] Memory Clock adjust.
    560M[Type1, Type2], 570M[Type1, Type2] Voltage adjust auto apply to both P1/P0 states.

    - Extend voltage limit for 570M[Type1, Type2] to 920mV

Does anyone know why performance significantly reduces when it runs on battery? I was playing Street Fighter at a about 80 FPS and when it ran on battery it went down to about 20 FPS, even when I switched the battery settings to High Performance.
Is there a way I can fix this?

I hate the fact that now they're coming out with all these offers for laptops with the 570m. I bought it right when it came out, and got nothing. :(

because the battery wont ever provide sufficient wattage for the system to run at full performance...It can provide max 75W while the PSU is 180W, you do the math.

this just happened after instaling the drivers from the stock ones to 285.62
    a ,,requirement'' for BF3
The screen went black for 5 seconds while in windows doing normal operations, no OC.

    Hey,
So I recently installed an M4 in my GT683r, I completely reinstalled Windows professional on it.
I'm having some trouble with the Realtek audio driver, I was using my laptop without the driver installed and my microphone and speakers would work fine with the default Microsoft drivers, its just my microphone had a bit of static. I then installed the Realtek drivers and immediately after restarting my microphone no longer would pick up sound. Windows recognized it but it wouldn't pick up anything. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I didn't install all of the drivers on the website, Only the wireless driver, graphics driver, the audio driver, and then the Intel 6 series chipset driver/software.

    Thanks for any help.

You cannot do anything about it. Nvidia downclocks the GPU to battery power clocks and keeps it there when you are on battery. Warcraft 3 runs at 30 FPS for me

taskbar window, bottom RH side [unless you've moved your windows bar]

Right click on the speaker icon, select "Audio Devices"

Right click on the HDMI and select "Disable".

Only way I know how to do it.

    I see. Thanks.

Does anyone have the problem of the touchpad being very jerky and the mouse cursor not moving at times. Happens to me a lot and it's really annoying :( Downloaded he latest touchpad driver but it gave me an error after I installed and restarted it. I have no idea why so I'm about to re-download and re-install it.
Does anyone know if this is actually a hardware problem, or can it be fixed by a mere driver update?

Well I tried searching this thread for SSD and SATA, yet didn't get any hits (I'm stunned...gotta think the forum search engine isn't working?).

Anyway, I have my GT68RDXR arriving tomorrow, hopefully; I got the 603US sku via amazon as that was a relatively cheap option that I could get quickly.

First thing I plan to do is pull out the 2x500GB RAID 0 HDs and replace with an SSD + 1TB HD. As I say I searched this thread for SSD to find out what SSD drives other GT683 owners have had luck with, but no luck, so thought I'd ask if there are any "goto" SSDs to put on the short list.

Too, is this laptop have SATA2 or SATA3 interface for the HDs?

i went with an OCZ vertex, the latest firmware [2.05 iirc] works very well. The only thing you have to be aware of is that if it needs the new firmware, it must be done BEFORE installing the O/S.

Make sure you disable raid before you remove the HDDs if you plan on using them. . ever. If you don't it'll still attempt to recognize those drives as raid.

    And it's Sata 3 :)

Figure this is a good place to ask, what's the turbo button all about? Does it OC just the GPU? Or can it somehow push an i7 past its usual turbo? I'm considering a 2630qm/560m combo

Oh while I'm here what kind of HDDs does MSI put in this puppy? Blacks I hope?

The turbo button doesn't overclock the CPU. The Sandy Bridge chips do it automatically on their own. It overclocks the GPU to "stock" frequencies. Meaning, when the turbo is not engaged, the GPU core frequency on the 570m is 525 MHz. When you engage the turbo, it "overclocks" the card to 575 MHz, which is actually the stock core speed for the GPU.

The HDD's are indeed Western Digital Blacks.

Actually the 560M is overclocked slightly.

    775/625 to 813/625.

    Yes it has gestures.

I don't know if this was asked a thousand times, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere so here's my question:

Can you upgrade the GT683R's GPU to a GTX 560M SLi? I know it's risky to buy another GPU on eBay and trying to install it on your own, but I want to know if it's at least possible.

    Thanks!

Ultra high end 15.6" machines do far better with the best single GPU around rather than going for 2x560Ms for thermal reasons.

I'm a bit concerned - I just bought a GT683 where the specs indicated it has a 570M nvidia card; but in the last few posts I see folks referring to the 560M card? (hasn't arrived yet, but I'm hoping the specs of the system I bought weren't incorrectly published!)

The GT683DX(R) come with GTX570M while GT683(R) come with GTX560M.
    That would work fine.

    Hi there!

Tried to search but difficult to find answer to my little q. so here we go:

(Got the European modell with 570 etc..)

Does the HDMI/570m gpu support 3D displays?

My parents´ got them an Samsung 50" 3D Plasma FHD display! so I wanted to test if my Crysis 2 and 3D films(3D films/rips played via Power dvd 11) on my laptop would treat my eyes with a littler 3D heaven!

But, can´t get it to work, though I´ve got a 1.4 HDMI cable between! I can only use the Samsung 2D>3D integrated software to work, and well. it don´t get very 3D as I want!

So, is this laptop 3D capable?

    Cheers from Sweden!

Yes the are compatible. Your heatsink is not (they all look the same on the top but different underneath).

    You need:

    180W power brick
GTX570M heatsink from a 683DXR machine (or 570M barebone machine)
GTX570M or GTX580M card (of course)

You can get the 580M off ebay but it will cost you.

Ran 3DMark2011 on my GTX683DXR (w/570M graphics) and got a result of P2514. This was with the "turbo" button enabled, AC power plugged in and the preinstalled 268.90 nvidia drivers ... running the 3DMark2011 1280x720 test.

Upon comparing this result to some other 570M ratings (e.g., this P3076 result, an MS-16F2 system comparable to mine), I found that my results are super low!

Other systems with "Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor" and "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M" are coming up with scores in the 3000+ range, some even as high as 3500. I realize that these latter are due to overclocking, though I'd not have thought mere overclocking could add a 1000pt margin, so I gotta think my system performance is bogged down somewhere? e.g., I am seeing that a lot of the 3DMark results appear to have a higher GPU "Core clock" than mine, in the 750Mhz range, whereas mine is running the stock 575.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, seems I'm not seeing the full potential of my GPU ... I may try installing the latest nvidia-direct 285.62 drivers, though I'm hesitant because the MSI version of the nvidia drivers which came w/the laptop were 268.90??

Also, my GT683 came preloaded with the MSI Nvidia Overclock tool, but launching this just throws an icon in the status tray, which doesn't appear to have any available options. Right-clicking on it shows enable/disable in the menu, both grayed out; and about/exit. How does one use this tool, and what does it actually do?

The Nvidia overclock tool is tied to the turbo button feature. You have no options or interaction with the tool other than to disable it when turbo feature is active. Once the turbo button is pressed and active so is the tool increasing your VGA clock speed. If the turbo button is active you can then right click and choose exit if you wish to disable the tool.

Update your driver bud and you will see you perf increasing significantly ! Then you can think about overclocking as you will easily reach P3400 on 3dmark11 for sure. Set first to 700 core clock, 1700 memory clock, the safest o/c by using NVinspector and with the latest driver (285.79).

    Can't be easier

Ah, thanks....I had held off on updating for two reasons: 1) current version of driver had a higher version #than that from NVIDIA site, even though it had an older date?!, and 2) want sure whether the msi overclock tools required the msi-specific version of the GPU driver.

Sounds looked the answer to #2 is no, so I will update to latest NVIDIA version of the driver, thanks!

    Oh, and happy Turkey all!

One question....you reference 285.79 as the latest driver from NVIDIA's website...but when I checked yesterday the most current drive for Geforce 500-series I found was 285.62??

Is the .79 driver you reference a beta driver?

Oh yeah sorry this is the beta and I advised this one because it was the last one released.

I would still say go for this one as it's better optimized for new games than the .62 :)

Gotcha, thx for the confirmation...one last inquiry on this point? So I'm assuming that the msi turbo/overclocking tools DO NOT have a dependency on the "msi version" of the NVIDIA drivers which ship with the laptop, they will work with standard drivers?
