it may be on some model, the new driver listed on msi website was for multi-touch I believe (not sure now, i haven't checked). I tried to install it but it complained that I didn't have right hardware so I rolled back to previous version.

What is the general census on beta drivers ?, I usually only install official drivers from the nvidia site but its been a while since they pushed a new update.

Here is the interesting thing. The branded GT683 comes with the Sentelic touchpad with very limited gestures like scrolling, while the barebones MS 16F2 comes with the fully programmable Synaptics touchpad.

Hmz, mostly when people don't use synaptics its due to a supply issue.

well, didnt have to wait to long no find out the beta driver is not good for my machine, still getting Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered, only when in firefox,

I dont know myself now, am I doing it ok?

1 uninstaling the gpu display driver
    2 restart
3 ccleaner for deleting register (previously I was using driver cleaner in safe mode)
    4 instaling new driver

    anyone see this procedure incorrect?
    thanks for any help
Msi advices to F3, but getting back to old driver with all above causes no malfunctions so I am wondering where is the problem.

    Never use driver cleaner.

You should use the latest OEM drivers from laptopvideo2go.com

    Just got my 683dx.

Dig this: IT HAS A MATTE SCREEN - NOT GLOSSY! I was under the impression that MSI manufactures 683s only with glossy screens - that was my main gripe with the system. I am a happy camper :)

The keyboard is adequate, as expected but since nothing beats the original Thinkpad keyboards these days, I can live with it. At least is not flimsy, just a bit "chicklety" hard to describe.

    Performance-wise, it's a screamer.

Now I have to deal with adding a SSD and move the OS there.

Well Many asus laptops come with sentellic touchpads,,,and they all have multitouh gestures,,,i tried downloading their driver..In settings it showed me all the multitouch gestures,,but none of them worked,,,,,that is why i m starting to wonder if we actually have a touchpad with no multitouch support...

Is there a chance to disable sharing system memory with RAM?
I remember in my very old laptop had that feature in BIOS, I was looking for that option in our dxr and couldnt find.

Hey guys I'm new to this forum and need your help. I bought the GT683DXR-633US (matte screen version) and I love the specs and performance of this machine.

There is one little problem - The screen especially noticeable on white background, the display looks grainy. Sort of hard to describe but looks like the display was made out of very fine sand paper or very microscopic grids that are noticeable when you are staring at the screen to work or play.

Is there some screen upgrade I can get or is this a manufacture defect?

    Thank you~

That is not a screen defect, it is a result of the Matte coating they use.

You can upgrade to the 95% NTSC Color Gamut Matte LCD (AU OB156HW01 V4) which does not show the grainy effect.

yes, I was thinking about the shared wideo memory pe.JPG

I recently got the message saying that there is not enough memory, and I found it weird sharing RAM with 1,5Gb of graphics card.

so that is why I would like to know is there a chance to turn it off. as I only have the model with 8GB of memory, so when I play demanding game, it looks like it only has 4GB to access.

The default setting in windows should be adequate in most scenarios, however just as a troubleshooting measure increase the size of your swap file to 1.5x of the physical memory.

This is very wierd that if you your video is actually using up to 4GB of ram, the other 4GB of system should be plenty enough to run any game. I'm not saying it will be the fastest, however it shouldn't give you super lag. I have desktop system with 4 GB of ram and it plays games fine, especially with the default swap file setting where windows will dynamically switch the size.

    Well let us know!

I would check with your original vendor first, but if they can't do it for you we can. Or, if you just want to buy the screen we can do that too. Just remember, if you install it the risk of breakage is yours, but if we install it we take that risk and you end up with a proper installation.

No, I dont have the latest drivers as since I was trying to instal every single driver that was mentioned in this forum I was getting this message Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. Aslo the screen was going black for few seconds, and it was while in deskktop or firefox.

On the page 87 I asked if the latest oem driver 290.36 from laptopvideo2go.com has to have the inf file modifie|? Or even downloaded? and also what is this for? I would like to try this last solution but I dont know how to bite it. Also the notebook only works properly with the factory preinstalled driver 268.90

I'm confused as to if my model has 4 slots for RAM or 2, because I looked in and it only seems to have 2 :p

The specs of my laptop are:
    i5 2410M
    8gb RAM
    GTX 560M

Is it only the i7 models that are supposed to even have 4 slots?
The retail box is rather misleading in that case since it advertises 4 RAM slots. Or maybe they're located under the keyboard or something?

Was unable to find real information this matter :p

Hmph, found the slots, installed the RAM but the laptop wont boot up after that :p

I guess I'm limited to 2x RAM sticks on my system. Pasting from the MSI site:
Exclusive DDR3 SO-DIMM x 4 slot Design Easily Doubles Performance*
Provides you with the most economical means to upgrade memory capacity (32GB max), so you never again have memory issues affecting your gaming experience.

    *2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor supports max 4 SO-DIMMs (8GB x4 slots)
    2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processor supports max 2 SO-DIMMs (8GB x 2 slots)

Ah well doesn't matter, figured I might have used the extra 2x2gb I had lying around but I guess not! :p

So my laptop arrived this morning. Very happy so far I have to say.

Couple of questions for existing users.

    1. My battery wont charge past 98%? Should I be taking this issue further?

    2. 'MSI Turbo' button and 'NVIDIA Overclock Tool'. Just to make sure I get this right. They take a standard 570M and down clock it to 525Mhz. Then put a button on the bar to 'Turbo' it back to the default speed? Can I remove the Nvidia Overclock Tool program and have it running at normal speeds all the time? Whats the script here?

    Many thanks all.

Due to the added performance state in the video bios, disabling the turbo button will default to the lower clocks.

You can of course use Svet's video bios editor to change that.

That or have nvidia inspector start with every boot but that defeats the point perhaps.

Having the turbo button ON, combined with the nvidia overclock tool [when notebook is plugged in] also allows you to use programs like msi afterburner to further overclock your graphics card beyond those "stock" limitations.

You may not need turbo and the overclocking tool to do this. I haven't messed with it trying to get it to work without them, but I *KNOW* it works *WITH* them. Best info I can give ya

Thanks for the info all, appreciate it.

Yup, played around today with it. Clean install Windows 7 and got things setup just how I like, latest drivers installed and so on.

What nvidia drivers are most people using? I've currently installed 285.62. I've also download the latest beta 290.53 but have not tried them yet.

With 285.62 installed and GPU @ 675/700 I scored 3500 in 3dMark11. GPU Temps around 72C , CPU around 74C. All seems reasonable I think?

Very much looking forward to some SWTOR this week once Im away again at work :)

    Hey folks,

I'm about to order my gt683dxr barebone and since it comes with a single hard drive, I tought I upgrade it right away with an ssd. I've selected this one:
    128GB 2.5-inch SSD 830 Series | Samsung Memory & Storage

Could one of the notebook deities confirm that this drive is going to be compatible with the gt683dxr?

    Thanks a lot!

Hi, I am new to this thread and I have some questions that I hope you can answer honestly :)

I am planning to buy this laptop (i5-2410m, 8gb, gtx 560m) and I wonder if the full hd display is a pro or a con. Some people said that full hd on 15.6 inches is not great and too small.

On games, what if I set the resolution to 1366x768 (16:9) or 1600x900 (16:9), will the game looks blurry? washed out?

And what native resolution do you prefer? 1366x768 or 1920x1080?

    Thanks :)

The lower the resolution you go, the worse it will look. That's just what happens when you run a screen at the non highest resolution.

This is just a matter of personal preference, but what I do to somewhat get around that is create custom resolutions that all end in 1080. My favorites are the 1680x1080 and 1600x1080 resolutions. It gives you the benefit of a lower resolution, while still looking pretty close to the clarity of the native resolution. It will just be stretched a little bit, but for gaming I don't find it too noticeable. :)

There is a going census that a 1080 display will make everything look small and while it is true, it is only due to people not knowing what their doing. In Windows, you can adjust the DPI level to make things larger. Also, every browser available will allow you to adjust it's DPI in the settings. Yes, the stock DPI does make everything look small but all you have to do is increase it to your liking and it will make everything look as big as you want.

What browser do you use and I will tell you how to adjust your DPI.

Hey guys, I'm about to order a new screen for my gt683dxr. I noticed the near the bottom of the LCD bezzle, it snaps off pretty easily. However near 1/3 of the top, it gets stuck, so I stopped putting any force into it.

Is there hidden screws under any of the "rubber feet"?

    Thanks a bunch~

    ***EDIT***

I found the answer to my own question. There's no hidden screws for the LCD screen bezzle. I snapped open from the top side and everything just slid off. That makes me wonder why they didn't include hidden screws to make the bezzle more secure. : )
