Sorry, but my last video card was an ATI HD4850 :( so not even close to know about gpus from laptops :(

At the end of the day... This is plain better than the 560m... So is worth i guess the little diference...

Will it be possible to find any of these 570m cards to buy for upgrades?

You will need the heatsink too, they are not common atm, but if you got a 570M heatsink there are GTX580M cards around.

I wish MSI would sell surplus cards and heatsinks. Would be nice since the chassis hasn't changed yet. Thanks though, I'll be looking for someone to sell parts.

I noticed no performance difference between the stock 268.90 and the 280.28 drivers. Those are the only two drivers that I have used. I get a couple hundred more points in Vantage benchmark with the newer ones, but nothing my eye can see. However the screen brightness control I did notice right away, so I went back to stock drivers and everythings back and working :)

FYI, I used 280.28. NOT 280.26, I did grab those inititally but never did try them, went straight to the .28's. I got the modded INF from Burtman88.

Good enough for me :D There could be a few games that give a slight improvement with newer drivers, but unless it's a huge difference (10%+) it just isn't losing features for. There could be drivers that work with the brightness function, but the ones I tried did not appear to.

I recently bought the MSI GT683 to replace a dropped onto the concrete M11x. As with the M11x, I discovered that no one had made a skin yet to fit my laptop. I'm clumsy (given that I dropped my last laptop...) and so find them necessary. I contacted invisibledefenders.com, where I got my m11x skin from, and they made one up and I got it in the mail today. It fits and looks great! Here's some pictures of it, the red rust design, in case anyone else was looking for a skin and having trouble too. (Forgive the picture of the fuzziness on the monitor bezel... it refused to focus, but it fits all the little components on it great.)

$35 bucks and you can get them customized with any image you want. I picked one of the literally couple hundred that was already on the site.

Yeah, it's hard to explain, but it's really easy, I think there's instructions on the website. It comes kind of like a piece of double sided tape, you peel off the backing and stick it to your laptop, and you can readjust if you need to, when you get it right, you smush it all down and you peel off the clear "guide paper?" and tada! It also comes with a matching wallpaper so it all blends in, but I took the pictures with the laptop off.

I don't know if that is Canadian or US dollars, or the conversion, but it really depends on what you want. It comes with Blu ray and 4gb more ram than the one I got, but I would much rather have the 570m since I already added 4gb for $20 and I can get a blu ray drive if I ever wanted one. The GPU is a little harder to upgrade if you ever wanted to.

So if you need as much GPU power as possible I would not go for it, buf if you don't game or very little and value the blu ray more then go for it.

    *******************

On the 3dmark 2011 posts. I did a stock run, overclocked run, and the decided to try 280.36 drivers from laptopvideotogo. I already tried 280.26 drivers and went back to stock mainly due to lack of "noticable" performance increase and it breaking my brightness control. These .36 drivers also broke my brightness control but I'll wait and see if there is any noticable performance change. I was surprised by the nice change in 3dmark2011 score with ONLY the driver change.

stock drivers, no turbo or overclock 2431
stock drivers, with turbo OC to 735/1735 3054
280.36 drivers, with turbo OC to 735/1735 3440

from what ive seen on the internet the gtx 560m still runs the latest games at a reasonable fps compared to one with an upgraded 570m which is also out of my price range, this is also canadian money

OK, sounds good then. Yeah it's not like the 570 will run a game excellent and a 560 will not run it at all. There may be a few settings you'd have to change to keep the same FPS or just live with a little less FPS.

It is running great so far. Great performance and runs cool. The fan on high is noticable but since I'm used to gaming laptops it's nothing new for me. Screen is awesome, the hard drives are good performers as is so I didn't mak any changes there. I did just slap another 4gb module in so I had an even 16gb, cost $21 at newegg.

I did find that they had windows setup for 125% font and it was extremely annoying, once I turned it back to 100% I had the sapce I was used to having.

I did not buy it for long untethered battery life but I am amazed at getting about 4 hrs of basic use with it. I don't even take my charger with me when I bring it to work to do light tasks as I never need that much over a day.

I am getting decent scores with some basic overclocking and am thrilled about that. No heat sink lapping, no replacing stock pads/paste. Just easy as click and go.

I scored a 3440 with 720/1440/1735 which is what I have been playing games at the last few days with zero issues. I just have the stock CPU though (2630).

Yes, my card is stable at those clocks. Those are the clocks that I always use for gaming.

Flapo: You may want to give the 275.50 drivers from laptopvideo2go a shot. Those are the ones I use, and the ones that I used when getting the scores in my first post. They have working brightness control, and I have had zero issues with them. So far with the 570m, these drivers have been keepers for me.

It is the stock windows install, I just removed some of the junkware that I did not want. I am using the 280.36 drivers from laptopvideo2go now, and like them except for the loss of screen brightness control. I just found out yesterday that the 275.50 retain brightness control but have yet to try them.

Hi everyone! Im proud to say im now an owner of a GT683DXR with the beastly GTX570M :x

Yes im gonna change my signature soon after i got everything in order.

I hope someone could answer my question though, as i attempt to open the gut of this machine to put in my SSD and intel wireless card, i saw a warranty sticker blocking my way and there doesnt seem to be another way to open it up rather than damage the sticker. What should I do?

Take it off nicely if possible and save it for later on some wax paper in a ziplock baggy.

Or if you are impatient like me, after tearing it a couple times I finally said the heck with it and tore it off, inserted my RAM and will not worry about it again (unless I need warranty work lol).

OK, these are really rough and quick, but should give you an idea. Borderlands at highest settings and 1920x1080, except no AA, is about 40-60 FPS. Same for BFBC2. I may even go down to 1280x720 if if want to keep it at 60, still looks very good on such a small screen.

Batman AA plays awesome as expected. Benchmark was 54 fps mainly do to a dip to 30 at one point, but most of the time was at 60. For a 15" and a mid/high level card i am impressed. Especially when you consider the cool temps and lower cost.

I have played without OC a few times and the difference is noticable, Basically its 10 FPS or a full resolution difference. That is awesome, usually (from my experience) OC only gives 5-10% overall performance difference but this is more like 20-30%.

The turbo button does nothing for CPU, but it does do my OC setting (using nvidia overclock). Not sure how Afterburner works, but I like they way I have it setup, no OC normal use then hit the turbo and OC is applied.

nice nice, also when you were playing those games did you have v-sync on or off cause sometimes that can cut your fps down quite a bit. Also with the nvidia overclock is it easy to use because right now im leaning to msi afterburner to overclock my gpu. One more thing is your cpu OC when you play games or no. ty

vsync was off in borderlands and BFBC2 as I like having it at or above 60 as much as possible, I am sure it was enabled in batman as I never saw it go past 60. I think nvidia oc tool is easiest to use, personally have messed with afterburner before and had issues with if the clocks are really enabled or not, but with nvidia tool I have never had that issue. Seems like many others prefer afterbrner so you may like it more.
