I think this is the one I am using now. It will add a performance tab in the nvidia control panel where you can overclock, save different profiles, and have them enabled when windows starts once you find clocks you want that are stable. I'm not sure why it's not more popular because I've been using it for years and never had any issues with it at all. The system monitor and system update are optional parts and have no effect on the overclocking/performance tab.

These ofcourse with our gt683's. basically what are the differences?? -

. After I took out all 6 screw, I attempted to take out the panel and wow it held together so tight. I was afraid to put any more force that I may break it but after searching many youtube clips that assured me to pull it out. But man do they need to save screw like that on the hard drive.
I also got a few impressions coming from a ASUS G53SW: if you have ever own a G51/G60/G71/G72 line of ASUS then you would see a lot of similarities: the plastic feel, led placement, touch panel and one fan for both CPU & GPU. But it seems that MSI has learnt something from that line and put more air filter undernearth and it doesnt need to be 80-90*C for the fan to kick in (although it could get quite loud for some). I did a clean install and well, think of this as a rough pearl, its definitely capable with such hardware but its not polished unlike ASUS. I have yet to find the wireless card to put in my 6230. The software is very basic with a simple-ish GUI. Its a bit odd that the USB port is extremely tight, I have to push it quite a bit to goes in fully. The power port is behind so its a welcome change from the G53. Currently Im struggling to update the bios and the GTX 570M vBIOS. Also I couldnt update to the latest nvidia driver without giving up the ability to adjust screen brightness. Other than that, the screen is very crisp and clear with the black so deep that the G53SW look like gray . Currently I can only push the GTX 570M to 700/1400/1800 so yeah. Gonna try the new vbios and see how it goes. The audio system is like many have said is among the best in laptop yet.
Is there anyway to update the latest nVidia driver and still able to adjust the screen brightness?
Also when I logged in the bios there are two dates 7/15/2011 and 7/08/2011 while on the MSI website there is a version on 7/26/2011. Should I update? Is there any kind of changelog around?
Lurking around the GT780 thread I saw there is a new vBIOS for the GTX 570M, should I apply it? Does it do anything significant? -
um quick question, does anyone have a beats by dre laptop to compare the sound of it with the dynaudio speakers on the gt models. i tried checking google but i couldn't find a comparison so i decided to check here. Also for the LED's on the laptop can you change the colors or are the always orange/red.
-
i had hp envy beats 14 before, this one sounds better and much louder..no bias
-
Be careful though and don't rip it off. There is a ribbon cable that is connected underneath. It has some length to it, but not enough to where you can be totally care free about it. -
Thanks i did and wow man is it that easy
. I wish there was a video demostrating the process. I was trying to pry open the area around the power button and luckily the middle part pull out for me to realize the correct place i need to pull. Once i know its just too simple.
Like my previous post, have anyone here tried the new bios and gtx 570m vbios? Also do you guys use stock driver or the latest one on nvidia website? -
As you probably figured out, it needs to be popped of on either side by the speakers, between the main chasis and the top plastic panel.
I took a look at the vbios posted that I think you are referring to - the one in the 780DXR owner's thread? Unless you are running a different version of the vbios, it should be the same as the one that you are currently running? It's the same version as the one that came with mine anyway.
I don't use the stock driver. I'm using the 275.50 drivers. -
@flapo: thanks for the info
ill follow ur advice..
-
how about the MB intel inf driver, should i install it? thanks
-
look up google for a program called Driver Genius, install it and let it update your drivers

1. Where can I buy a bracket or block for the second place of the hard drive?
I put a SSD as a secondary hard drive in my GT680 and is fixed with some carton. I need a metal bracket or block like in the primary place of the hard drive. I know that I can do it by myself but I want something original...
2. Where can I buy a caddy for the hard drive to put in the dvd bay for the GT68x series? -
[email protected] Company Representative
We have the HDD brackets in stock for the GT680/GT683/GT780"s -

Can anyone with a GT683DXR what estimates are you getting on battery life? turn off wifi, screen brightness at lowest, and in power saver mode
-
@Alex - thanks for your reply. That seems a bit low. The G53SW gets 4 hours 20 Mins (Wifi Off, Brightness Down, power saver mode - basically just for taking notes in class).
Surely someone with this laptop could post?.... -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Our PowerPro R 11:36 (MSI GT683) battery life test results using Imtec Battery Tester are:
Normal with processor at 100% and screen on = 1:45 hours:minutes
Normal with processor at 0~1% and screen on = 4:09 hours:minutes
When running a Blu-ray movie we got right at 3 hours. Therefore you can expect close to 4 hours with normal use. -
I can confirm the 4 hrs sounds very reasonable with minimal usage (like note taking). With wifi on and brightness up a some you might be closer to 3 hrs or so, but still very respectable.
-
does anybody here experience when charging the laptop, the battery light indicator is off even if its connected? thanks im experiencing it now..
-
for now, take off the charger and use ur laptop for a couple of minutes depleting the battery as much as u can. perhaps less than 40% if posible. then restart ur pc and when loaded proceed to conect charger. battery light MUST turn on. if not its a led or programming issue -
@flapo: yep ur ryt..hehe thanks..
-
I hate to ask this but quality wise what would you rate the MSI laptops? I previously had the g53 and didnt think it was that great.
-
It was the G53sx-a1 not the sw series btw.
-
aside from the newly released gimped GTX560M, they are the same
-
Wait... what has a gimped video card? I am speaking of durability in mind... The asus looks and felt durable although I haven't been able to see the MSI.
-
-
Aside from the graphics... I'm speaking of build of laptop. Does the MSI feel sturdy and feel like a reliable machine?
-
@vigilante: yes it does...
also worth it for its price..
-
im comparing between the G53SX and G53SW, they have everything in common except the graphic card: same chassis, same mainboard, almost same everything (I havent check the screen yet). You were under the impression that they are different?
The GT683DXR while doesnt look as study and have a bit of cheap plastic feel to it, its not any less durable than a G53. the cooling is a bit more efficient although sometimes it can get pretty loud. Read my post a few pages back of my impressions when I first got my hand on GT683DXR. -
hi everyone...thus your motherboard heats up up to 90 deg? and 88 for cpu? while playing about 3 hours with turbo on? thanks
-
is the only difference between the gx680 and the gx683 is the graphics card?
-
Too bad I didn't have enough time to get one of the new GT683 models with the GTX 570m for my current trip abroad.
But I will definitely consider MSI's gaming laptops next year for Ivy Bridge perhaps. -
Well until a week ago I was an owner of a G53SW-XN1 and most of my post counts come from asus box
-
I am curious about the competition between MSI and Asus for their gaming laptops. Both are very similar companies, based in Taiwan and huge PC manufacturers. Up until recently, I always had the impression that Asus was a superior company to MSI, having higher-end and quality offerings.
But it seems Asus is falling behind in the gaming laptop scene at least. I'm comparing the current MSI GT683 and Asus G53 series for now. MSI has the GTX 570m, Asus still uses the GTX 560m. Asus gimps the 560m by crippling the shaders, whereas they left the 460m alone in the older G53s. MSI doesn't touch the GPU. I also believe replacing/upgrading the GPU in Asus models is harder due to them locking the BIOS and using a different MXM design. So if the 560m in your Asus fries, you have to get a special one. But with MSI, you can get a standard 560m and also upgrade the GPU as long as the PSU and heatsink are compatible.
The MSI also easier to upgrade the other components, you just screw off the bottom cover to access the CPU, GPU, RAM and hard drives all at once. For Asus, you have to take apart the keyboard and palmrest just for the bottom cover to fall off.
The only points I have for Asus are having a backlit keyboard and subjectively, a better design. I like the stealth-fighter motif on it. I don't mean to slag on Asus, but it seems that MSI has the upper hand currently. -
i'm stuck here weather to buy GT683DXR or the GT780DXR:
the bad side of 15" : it doesn't have a backlit keyboard, and for the 17": it's just too big to be portable
so i wanna know if the LED's on the laptop can help on the dark?
Also, any suggestion where to buy any of these in Canada? -
@ri8: both are nice laptop, but as you said theres no backlit on d gt683, the led is fair enough but doesnt help at night. You can pm ken lee maybe you cn make arngement on him about shppg in canada.
-
-
If there could just someone who can mod for a backlit keyboard for the Gt683 it will be very nice.
-
i think i'll wait till october to decide which one to get. I'll try to get 17" from any of my friends to see if i can live with it because a backlit keyboard is very important to me.
-
-
Hi, does anyone know what the weight of the laptop is with laptop+battery+power brick? Thanks.
-
Hi, What idle temps are you guys getting with your laptops, i'm getting around 50 which i think is a bit high.
Alex -
-
for the meantime i bought a backlit keyboard, cyborg.sale on amazon.lol..but i really love to have a backlit on my gt683
-
Hi, like others I am among these laptops:
ASUS G53SX-A1 $1199 (GTX560M)
GT683DXR-$ 1557 (GTX 570M)
I´ve had the opportunity to see the asus laptop, for me it´s gorgeous , but after read a lot of information about these two laptops, I am still a little confused about which I have to choose.
Basically I have these doubts:
1. The size, for me the asus is a little thick. I’ve never seen the MSI and I found different specifications about the size of these tow laptops. So, if someone can tell me about the size, it would be great.
2. Does MSI has SPDIF out? I haven’t seen any information about it.
3. Is it worth the money, MSI is 350 dollars more expensive. Even the GTX560M version is over 200 dollars above.
4 Finally which of both is less hot under normal tasks (no playing) and in playing conditions.
ASUS
Pros: Stylish, backlite keyboard, price
Cons: Size, accessibility to internal components, AC connector position.
MSI
Pros: HD webcam, easy access to internal components, easy hard drive upgrade, better graphic card.
Cons: Price, no backlite keyboard.
No matter which one I choose, I will put it a SSD hard drive.
Thank you and I apologize if I am being repetitive. -
Alex -
On idle I get in mine around 46-48 degrees on CPU and around 45-46 degrees on GPU.
