I assume he is just counting the slots x the maximum memory kit he can find.
    (8GB x4)

Let's face it, 8GB memory modules are not practical even if they do work.
The benefit given for the price just doesn't measure up.

(assuming discrete GPU that does not use system RAM)
4GB is frankly enough for most people's laptop needs.
8GB is a nice amount that should handle most enthusiasts' every need.
12+GB is overkill for almost anyone

Of course, some people might have specifc needs or appications which are memory-hungry beyond the norm... but most people really don't need above 8GB for now.

The 32GB max is mentioned on MSI's ebrochure for the 683DXR

    (without space - w w w . msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?cid=6&id=328)

Check out the ''overview'' tab. Still unclear to me why it states max 4X8GB on that page but max 4x4GB on other documents (the user manual, for instance)...

tried the S-bar software of GT780 to manually set the function of P1 button with no luck, although the GUI is kinda cool.

I just installed the new 285.36 nvidia driver that just came out for Battlefield 3's beta launch (mod. from laptovideo2go)....I still had my stock 268.90 driver installed prior to this; here are my results! (Nice...!)

    GT683DXR/GTX570m
    1) stock 268.90 driver, stock clocks = p 2238
    2) stock 268.90, clocks @ 720/1440/1735 = p 2995
    3) New 285.38 driver, @ 720/1440/1735 = p 3460 !!!

More than 30% increase from stock drivers and settings! I'm enjoying this a lot.

    (EDIT)

With these settings, i'm playing Starcraft 2 (4vs4), highest resolution (1920x1080), Ultra Textures (max) and Extreme Graphics (max) @ Avg. 50-60FPS ! (min=35; max=80+ , almost never reach min.)
GPU is stable @+-73 Celsius when playing continuously (turbo fan ON) and +- 40-48 Celsius when idle.
    *Using ''high-performance'' battery power mode.

The thing is no clear info about the DXR model. There is no specific info about max memory, base memory type and so on... i upgrade mine to 16Gb, but did it buying 2x4Gb Kingstom memory 1333Mhz, and works fine. VMWare Wkst works fine with this amount of memory.

About OC the video card, not sure about what program to use. Installed MSI Afterburner, but don't let me change the GPU clock speed... any help other than read the manual?

    Cheers

The reason for the confusion in the documentation is 4x 8GB is new, and they didn't go back and find all the places it said 4x 4GB and replace them, but all the new videos and literature shows 4x 8GB, and you will see it on custom builder's Customizers.

Tested same game using battery and no more than 4 fps. Why?

Where did you get the 285.38 driver? I could only find the desktop version on the website.

    EDIT:

I found it. It can be found here.

Did you have to edit the inf file to get it to work with a 570m? It looks like it only goes up to 555m.

Yes, i changed the .inf file in extracted /driver directories with the one from laptopvideo2go.

From what i got in the description, the 285.38 driver will increase performance over the previous 285 only on battlefield 3 (over 30% increase - driver actually came out a week prior to beta release, on purpose..) and on some SLI configurations.

So far it's been very stable, and noticeably faster than my stock config both in games and Adobe CS products. I don't know if it's worth switching from the previous 285 if it's what you already have, has i did not try use it myself.

(EDIT) - Okay, just noticed that the brightness control isn't working anymore, as it happened to other users using different modded drivers...will keep updating.

Currently using the 285.27 drivers with clocks 720/1440/1690...

3d Mark 11 scores in the 3500 range...

The issue I am having is that there are graphical issues in games when using these OC settings. Sudden black lines/tears will flash into and out of a frame. Also, on rare occasion, the PC will completely freeze when launching a game, requiring a complete shutdown. The fan is turned on, and the temps shown are in the 68-75C range.

These issues are worrying me and i wanted to check with those in the know as to whether or not this is a card worth Overclocking, or perhaps I could have a lemon ? I can run the GTX 570m on default settings without issue, but any kind of overclock causes these glitches.

    thanks in advance.

The highest score I can get on the newest beta drivers is P3506 with 720/1440/1735. However, I get a ton of artifacts. More than likely, you'll have to bring your clocks down until you don't see the artifacts. I'm getting P3342 with 1360/1660, and no artifacts. I still need to try a bit higher clocks though.

That is an old one for 285.26.

The modded inf on laptopvideo2go added GTX 570M into their list already. I realized that after i installed 285.38 with my selfmodified inf.

download and change it to inf then put in display.driver. Nothing complicated really. I simply take the original file and compare with its equivalent in the newer driver and see there are 3 extra lines needed for GTX 570M and I just add them into the right position and voila!

Hey guys, I'm having some weird fps caps showing up in some games. When I was playing Deus Ex: HR, half the time I would be a solid 60 fps, but then the other half I would be exactly 30. It wasn't jumping around so it really seemed like it was being capped or something.

I don't think it's fraps. I tried Company of Heroes and I found that my frame rate was very consistently capped at 50 fps.

I'm running 285.38 with a modified inf. My over clock is 700 1400 1600. Anyone else getting anything like this?

Also dragon290513, what fps are you getting on BF3?

    Hi,

I just got the GT683DXR. I'm curious to know what the turbo button do in this model exactly.

I own a GT627 and the turbo button would increase the CPU clock from 2.2GHz to 2.7GHz. But looks like the turbo button on this new model would only increase the GPU speed (clock, shader and memery), correct? What's the GPU speed after the turbo button pressed? Does it even change the FSB of the CPU at all?

I tested by putting the CPU under load and hitting the turbo button but the CPU clock or FSB doesn't increase at all. That's why I'm curious. Any ideas?

    Hi,

Would you please help me choosing the right 3D monitor for my GT680 notebook?
I have some models to choose from and I don't know which one is recommended by you based on your experience. I expect to have some real 3D effect not something similar. It has to be good to play games (gtx460m graphic card) and watch 3D HD movies.
The modeles from what I want to choose are (maybe you recommend some other models too?):
    1. Dell AlienWare OptX AW2310 3D Ready 23" FULL HD wide (AW2310)
    2. ASUS VG236HE 23'' LED 3D HDMI FHD 120Hz
    3. LG 3D D2342P LED DVI HDMI
    4. LG DM2350D-PZ 23'' LED TV CINEMA 3D FULLHD
Thanks in advance for your help.

ok. new i7 processors have a turbo fuction of their own. they will overclock depending on demand. so Turbo button doesnt affect CPU.

Now for GPU. The 570m WITHOUT the turbo button is downclocked to 525 Core. when turbo is ON the clock is returned to 575 which is STOCK for the 570m. when turbo is on it also allows overclocking with external app such as MSI Afertburner. When turbo is OFF no overclocking is allowed.

Thanks for the info Flapo. I installed the latest version of MSI afterburner from guru3d.com and it allows me to overclock the GPU without hitting the turbo button (I verified that my GPU was overclocked to 700/1800/1400 with GPU-Z and Nvidia Inspector).

hello everyone, i just got my GT683DXR, iam very happy with my purchase, this beast fulfill my need for gaming and design-stuff.. everything work flawlessly, except the touchpad :( , its not very responsive at all, the touchpad cannot scroll up & down, even after i set it up right.. so i tried to update the driver from msi website, but after the installment and rebooting, its said "the driver isn't suitable for use, please remove it and update new one"... have anyone knew whats the solution? i really appreciate it ;)

Since you have a gtx 570m, I'm assuming you used a modded inf file to install the drivers. I'm not positive, but that may be the cause. I went to 285.38 and had the same broken brightness controls. I switched back to 285.27 and they were fine. Someone stated that they had no brightness control problems when they installed 285.38, but they used a different inf modded file than I did. I never got around to trying his inf, but I think it was discussed in this thread. I decided to stick with the 285.27 drivers until something way better comes out because I didn't notice any improvement in vantage or 3dmark11. However, the .38 drivers could be better for some games as it claims to be...I never got around to trying any games with the .38 drivers.
