Does anyone have the problem where a corner of the trackpad is physically higher than other corners?

You can enable this battery setting and then disable DC autorun from task scheduler. Battery settings stick!

I recently reinstalled DC but couldn't find that setting. Where is it? Or is it just enabled for the 2k19 model?

Has anyone tried tuning the bass in Nahimic to get a more neutral sound? The default sound lacks a lot of low ends

    Hey guys,

Had this laptop for a couple of months now and I'm enjoying having it apart from a few little niggles and things I've discovered.

Firstly - despite the success of others' efforts and the heatsink lottery, I suffered from uneven core temps (0, 2 and 4) were as much as 15 degrees (c) hotter than the others. For me, replacing the thermal pads on the VRMs north of the cpu with 0.5mm ones did not help - or at least, I was unwilling to try it as after re-assembling the heatsink, the pads did not make contact with the heatsink. I'm not sure if the original pads are thinker than the 1mm reported in a few places, but 0.5 does definitely not make contact. Liquid metal (and slightly more than you would expect to use, as least on the CPU die) solved the problem for me. I taped the surrounding areas and have had no problems with leakage.

Secondly - I suffered audio problems in that my laptop would regularly refuse to reroute audio to the headphones. I tried everything - and I mean everything - listed online for this problem, from old and new drivers, removing Nahimic, changing the auto detect settings in Realtek. Nothing. A fresh install of Windows worked for a while, and as most people seemed to accuse Nahimic as the cause, I didn't install it. This only worked temporarily and I am back to having the same problem. As well as this, sometimes the audio will ONLY route to the headphones, and will not reroute back to the speakers when unplugged. I am now in the same position as I was, but without 3D surround (as a PowerShell script I ran as part of initial setup disabled Microsoft Store and it now will not run! - is Telemetry required to run the store??)

For those following who are pulling their hair out like I was, a workaround for me was as follows:
    • While wearing the headphones, unplugged, play a sound on the laptop
    • For me, during plugging in the headphones, I would hear a blip of sound, then nothing.
    • So, unplug and replug the headphones halfway while sound continues to play.
    • If the sound blips in and cuts out again, repeat.
    • After a few tries, I could get the sound to 'stay' in the headphones and plug them in all the way
this is not ideal for the lifespan of the jack socket, but is the only 'fix' I have found. Problem is likely a sneaky driver update.
So far, where the problem is reversed, a reboot seems to resolve.

Finally - while undervolting and playing with fan curves, I noticed that 150% fan settings HAVE NO EFFECT. The maximum speed of the CPU fan is 6000rpm which is 100%. The GPU fan will get to 6485rpm, which is 108%. Any setting higher than these does not increase fan speed. This can be proven by setting an advanced fan curve in DC to the above %, wait until fans reach those speeds, then switch to cooler boost. Not only will the reported fan speeds not change, but you will hear no change in the tone of the fans either.

I would also suggest when setting custom fan curves, to set them more agressively than you actually want, as the fans take a while to reach the desired speed, by which time your CPU/GPU is at the next temp band.

    Any thoughts, anyone??

I feel you. Had it since November. Not had the audio problem, but the heat is a pain. I just read 89c on core 0 and 59c on core 5. This is not normal but a peak. It settles down quickly.

A problem for me is the lost potential of performance. When all cores are running on 15-35% workload (hwmonitor), it gets so hot that it won't go any higher. The 3 cores that are the problem, are way higher regarding temps than the rest.
I use it for music production, and the thermal throttling is the biggest problem for me. Making the fans run at 100% with the terrible high pitched noise and still throttling.

I've repasted and undervolted to a stable - 150. Also turned on the gpu fan to 100% to try and "offload" the heatsink on the cpu. Had no effects on cpu temp. Using a laptop cooler has no effect since the motherboard is flipped.

I haven't used the thunderbolt port since I got my laptop, but I just ordered a generic USB-C to USB-A Hub and HDMI. It works, except that I am stuck at USB 2.0 speeds. I thought maybe it was the hub, but when I connect anything else to the USB-C port, they also connect at USB 2.0. I've directly connected a USB 3.0 HDD via a USB-A:USB-C OTG, and its at 2.0. Connected my Samsung Galaxy S10+, connects at USB2.0. Anybody else have any ideas how to get this working correctly?

I haven't repasted mine, but i've been able to undervolt up to -190.4, but i don't keep it at that.
These are my current settings, i have yet to repaste or anything. I just received this back from an RMA where they replaced the whole motherboard and memory, the board i had before didn't have this uneven temperature issue.

Can anybody confirm that setting the AC/DC load-line to 1 and the current limit to 800 stated in the second post of this thread actually work for this laptop? I've set both, exactly how the directions are stated and this didn't do anything... lol? Yes i turned TDC/TDP to disabled, and yes i was IA/Core settings under VR in CPU performance. I uninstalled dragon center beforehand, and deleted my previous throttle stop inf file before i set these in the BIOS. I still get the EDP other under ring. I don't think this does anything for this model. Also i'm using the latest BIOS, if that makes any difference. I'm not comfortable downgrading to an older version, is that what it takes?

This is a hardware issue . Uneven cores is, sadly, common. I had it on mine before selling, repaste improves it, albeit temporarily.

The rtx versions are a lot better. I sold my 1070 and bought 2060.

Are you sure its not the heat sink? I read that it can come warped. If its hardware then i will RMA again, that's pretty disappointing, at least USA customer support is A++.

The EDP Other appeared under ring came from the iGPU reaching the maximum allowed multiplier, you can over come that by limiting the iGPU frequency to 1050MHz in the BIOS.

To limit it go to Advanced > Power & Performance > GT - Power Management Control

Set Maximum GT Frequency to 1050.

Then this is fixable by installing a brand new heat sink? There's one on amazon for around 90$ USD, is it worth buying and seeing if it makes any difference? I'm going to send a support query into MSI and see if maybe they'll send me one first, i shouldn't have to pay in the first place. Why does this computer have so many issues?

@dmemon got a heat sink replacement from MSI and it worked well for a couple weeks but ultimately it was the same result. Core differential is back ( it was probably just the fresh thermal paste masking the issue).

Try with MSI, I know Ali Express sells the exact models as well. MSI also sells the heatsink for about 120 to 150AUD I forget.

Unfortunately that didn't work. What did work though, and you were very close, was keeping this setting at "default maximum" and disabling the iGPU overclock setting. The option to disable the overclock is only unlocked when the maximum gt frequency is set to "default maximum". Thanks for the help!

Well I'm not sure why limiting to 1050MHz doesn't work for the one on your 8750H.

    This is mine:

    8750H iGPU to 1050MHz.PNG

If disabling Turbo for iGPU works for you then it's cool too, or you can try 1000MHz / 950MHz / 900MHz etc and see if they work on yours.

Yes, I have been having heat issues with my device.

I have had MSI replace the heatsink. That did make a big difference but only for like a week and the problem was back.

I have been fighting with MSI to have my unit replaced but MSI support in India is neither helpful nor knowledgeable.

I have visited MSI twice 1st to get repaste 2nd to replace heatsink. Now they are asking me to get it repasted again.

I was not happy with the response so I tried to investigate further and got in touch with the technician who did the repaste and heatsink change.

He reported that both the times he did not clean the old paste as it was not dried.

So, it could be an issue with the device or bad repaste that he did.

I might visit them again for a final repaste to confirm the flaw.

I might be wrong but @Divinated should also confirm if they cleaned the paste from heatsink when they changed the motherboard.

Yeah, I would definitely consider the fact that a lazy tech would probably just take the old sink off and lap it right on the new board thinking there's really no big deal. Beside s its not his problem. Tech support in USA was very good, I shipped the laptop out and received it back within a week and a half. I would RMA it repeatedly until i finally get a working model if it didn't cost so much to send it.

MSI did give me the green light to repaste myself, but man just thinking about how long that will take on top the fact that it may not solve the issue makes me uneasy.

I'm stuck on the CPU still adding almost 0.1v to the static voltage I set in Throttlestop. The BIOS changes stopped the voltage from varying wildly while under load, but it still jumps 0.0850v from what I have set when under load; which is significant.

Possible this is some kind of LLC there isn't an option for in the BIOS.

Well theres two options in the BIOS really. Intel Speed-step and RTH (Race-to-Halt).

Here's a read for the RTH setting.

I had RTH set to off, but I actually found a somewhat solution: There's a max core voltage setting in the BIOS, which appears to actually work. That means we can set a max ceiling after testing, just have to be sure to adjust the turbo settings in the BIOS as well to match.

New wrinkle: If you set an offset voltage in the advanced BIOS settings, the core voltage is actually applied to the system agent voltage. Nothing seems to affect the IA voltage.

Is it possible to choose/set a limit to how much the individual cores are loaded ? I mean, can I choose the cores with the lowest Temps to load more than the others to compensate the temp differences?

I found 3 Programms with which u can "maybe" get what you want:

    BES (Battle Encoder Shirasé)
    Process Lasso
    Process Tamer

With Process Lasso seeming to provide the most options (though it could cost sth., not sure, there was an option to buy it)

Or you take your Taskmanager and play around with the cpu affinity. (Or use a free programm mentioned above).

You wont be able to set individual core loads like core 1 max 20%, core 2 max 70% etc. But if you know what cores cause trouble, you can maybe try to remove that core from the affinity list for heavy programms, so those cores don't get utilised at all by that specific programm/game.

Care though, as the Affinity list also shows Hyper Threaded Cores. If you have 6 cores, it will propably show 12. But hey, at least this way, you can kind of limit specific cores to only be utilised up to 50%

    -> 4 Cores, with Hyperthreading 8 Cores.
(If you tell a programm to only use Core 0, The real Core 0 will only be utilised to 50%, as the real Core 0 consist of the Virtual Cores 0 and 1.)

Is anyone having troubles with their keyboard back lighting? My number "4" key went for a toss last month. The green led inside it just refused to work anymore. Now a couple days back, "P", "Fn" and "Down Arrow" had the same Green LED failure. Tried the driver reinstall. Didn't work. Any ideas?

    Hey guys... I need help!
Since today after the latest Windows Update, my SCM.exe got a stroke or something, it doesn't work anymore. (There's always this Error message popping up, "The Application couldn't be started correctly (0xc0000135). Click OK to close the Application")

I've tried uninstalling it... doesn't work. I tried repairing it... also doesn't work. I've downloaded a version from the GT73VR Support page... this doesn't work either. (Installation and uninstall always fails with some problem).

I went to the Support page of my device, well guess what... there's not even an option to download any SCM stuff... Do I even need it? If not, how the f#*@k am I supposed to get rid of it?

Google didn't help me at all.

I'm kind of suspicious about Windows Defender... maybe the "exploit guard" or whatever is doing something? I have no idea what to do anymore...

The case was definitely reinforced. Compared to the previous model, this laptop is noticeably less prone to flexing. The increase in weight is barely noticeable, so I'd gladly make the tradeoff between weight and sturdiness of the case. As far as performance goes, it has handled everything I've thrown at it so far without any problems. One other thing I've noticed is that the SSD in my unit is very fast (write and read speeds easily over 1GB/sec on Novabench). I have seen some people complain about the speed of the SSD in this model, so perhaps I have a different SSD (WDC PC SN520 NVMe SSD) than what other people have been using.

    Hi
since the day I bought my MSI GS65 (the 1070 max-q model) the touchpad buttons never worked. I checked on dragon center, and my synaptics drivers are updated (actually, to an higher version than the "latest version". I can use the fn-key combinations to disable the touchpad, and when I go to touchpad settings windows shows it as being an "high precision" one, yet I can't neither right nor left click. Any solution/thing I should do?

Just learn the Window /affinity codes and put whatever you need in the shortcut. You can tell it exactly which cores to use and no extra programs are needed.

    Try this:

Open up task manager and stop MSI SCM in service tab.

Locate the main folder of SCM in program file or program file (x86) and delete it.

    Go to C:\Users\*Your user name*\AppData\Local\MSI

Delete whatever is inside the MSI.

    Reinstall again.

    If it doesn't work:

You can try updating the .net framework, it could be some run time environment components are missing.

    and then reinstall again.

    If that still doesn't work:

Press Windows key + R to load up Run and execute %temp%, then delete the stuff inside temp folder, some items may be in use, after you have done this, some of the program might lose your personal settings so this is the last resource.

    Then reinstall again.

Late reply but quick question, so I did the bios tweaks but I did not delete my throttlestop INF, does this mean that some settings didn't take/ got over written?

Question: I've gotten a few updates from the official MSI website (audio driver, ec firmware, etc) however, no updates for the wireless card or video drivers. This seems odd as my experience had been these get update rather frequently. I know for sure the Nvidia graphics drivers have been updated several times since MSI listed a driver (August 2018). I'm trying to stick to official updates but it looks like MSI has moved on from this model and doesn't care to provide any.

So, has anyone just gone the the manufactures websites and updated drivers? If you did, did you see any noticeable improvement? I'm thinking the touchpad, Intel graphics, Nvidia graphics & LAN/wireless drivers can be had and probably are 2 or 3 generations newer than mine. Again, I don't want to update with non MSI approved drivers unless others have and have seen some sort of improvements.

PLEASE chime in with your experiences. Lastly, if anyone did update the Nvidia graphics driver, I need some guidance how to do it, when I open Geforce experience, it listed a new driver but the install failed with an error meaning MSI has some way of preventing the install of non MSI approved graphics drivers. On my old machine (Dell) they did the same thing and I used a program called driver sweeper to "clean" the Dell driver install so I could download and install newer drivers. Haven't tried this on a MSI machine and I'm not sure driver sweeper is safe to use anymore.

You can go straight to component manufacturers' websites directly to obtain the latest version. MSI only updates drivers when the existing release has issues.

Well, as I typed the above message, I decided to go back to the Geforce experience app and see whats new and ended up installing a new driver, no error this time, went really smooth. So I then decided to try a couple more. Intel UHD 630 graphics would not install, got an error that said go to the manufacturers site so I just skipped it. I then updated wireless driver from intels website, no problems with that one. Thats it for now, I'll chime in if I have any problems but would still like to hear what others are using for drivers and your experiences

I use Lenovo Touch pad drivers, works on MSI, based off suggestion for YouTube Dave2D, never had issues, has always worked. TBH I have never tired MSI stock touchpad drivers for more that 30 minutes.

Intel updates I get from their website with their driver and support software (I uninstall afterwards).

NVIDIA updates I use DDU to uninstall and download latest versionfrom website and install with NVSlimmer (All cores, NGX Core and USB C). (This does not include GeForce experience)

NVIDIA releases maybe every 2 weeks. I check about that frequently.

I'm not sure what you mean bu MSI preventing installation of non-MSI approved graphics drivers. I use GeForce Experience and have had no issues whatsoever updating the drivers. You may need to run the installer as an Administrator to get it to install correctly, depending on your UAC settings. The biggest thing that changes with nVidia driver updates are adding tweaks for specific games (usually newer titles) and in the case of either the late March or early April release, adding ray tracing support for GTX 16xx cards. Granted, ray tracing performance is about half that of the RTX cards, but prior to that driver update, it didn't work at all for those cards.

Download the latest driver from Nvidia.com, there's DCH driver which only works along this series.
    Here's the info about DCH.

Likewise, haven't had any problems installing nVidia's official drivers.

Has anyone attempted to remove the back logo?

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way without damaging the black.

I assume you mean the golden dragon.

Not remove it but it was not to my liking and I had a black phone skin sticker that I used to hide it.

I have not done a very neat job there is lots of room for improvement but I am okay with it.

    That's not bad at all.

Ideally I'd like to remove the paint, but I may take this route if there's no other option.
