i had a blue screen today and then my network card disappeared, both wireless and lan was gone. I then reinstalled the drivers for them and as i install 1 the other disappears again. Anyone know how i can fix this?

Hey Guys,
Is it worth buying CPU, SSDs, RAM, & Blu-Ray Player separately from online and replacing it with generic one on GT70?
I will be voiding warranty if I do replace CPU right?

Anyone having problems with the THX equalizer? I am not even sure how it works, when I try to launch the file to install, a window tries to form but it closes before it does. I am not sure if it even does anything.

That looks like a great machine.
The only way right now to get the MSI Super Raid is when you buy a model with it included.
I don't know of anyplace you can buy the adapter to do Super Raid yourself in a non Super Raid model.
The only piece left that might later need to be upgraded is the Intel 2230 wireless card if you begin to experience disconnects or signal weakness. It's a 150Mbps 2.4ghz band only card
If you are close to your router and in line of sight you should be OK.
The new Killer 1202 wireless card is 300Mbps duel-band and has Bluetooth 4.0.
Reports are that Dell has locked up the 1st shipments of the Killer 1202 for their alienware lineup. -
MSI has already told us that as of right now, Super RAID is exclusive to only the models that are offered with it.
They have not plans at this time to release the adapter configuration for it.
I will say this, it is a pretty impressive setup and it does have potential. -
Thanks guys will be getting mine tomorrow as today is fishing and relaxing day! Cant wait.
-
hei guys, is there any news that amd radeon 7970m can be used in msi gt 70 ??
-
So after almost a combined 20 hours of testing (by me and my mates), I went back to the distributor and they tested that I got a lemon unit, wootz!
So got it exchanged and it's all swell now.
-
I ran into the saeproblem and waiting for someone to talk about it. It starts but then nothing happens. I tried to install it before and after the other THX driver and still same thing.
-
I just received a gt70 us11 model about a couple of weeks ago. I had been using a gateway p7811fx since '08.
So far, I impressed with the gaming performance. The matte screen is nice and games look decent.
My only concern is with the mic jack. FRAPS recordings are picking up a significant amount of hiss. I've tried two different headsets, with the same results. I've tinkered with the windows mic gain/volume settings to no avail. I've also tried disabling the 3rd party sound enhancements, no dice.
My old p7811fx produced nice, quiet voice recordings in FRAPS videos.
I was thinking about downloading an equilizer if one is available for microphones, and simply lowering the high frequency ranges to cut out the hiss. Or perhaps the extreme, buying a creative soundblaster card.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

guys
i will buy this
Amazon.com: MSI Steel GT70 0NC-013US 17.3-Inch Laptop: Computers & Accessories
any suggestion ?
and i have a question about that notebook
iam living outside USA and we don't use 110 socket we use 220 socket
will it will work in both sockets ?? -
Hi everyone,
I'm about to place my order for GT60, it seems pretty ideal for my needs, but there's a question, how about the build quality/durability?
I'll be using the notebook for gaming and college, means that the notebook needs to be transported sometimes(home to campus).
I just want to make sure that the notebook is durable enough, so it won't easily break just because carried a lot. -
For the most part the outside of the lid is aluminum as well as the inside hand-rest. The top were the hotkeys are is plastic, as well as the outside were the lid and base is joined. The bottom of the laptop is plastic. For the most part i'd say the durability is much better than the previous GT60R that I owned.

is it confirmed that msi will have a nvidia gtx 680m version?

I have heard end of June..... this is the model I am waiting to see.

I got a GT70 a week ago now (12GB RAM, GTX670M with 3GB, 128GB SSD, 750GB HDD), to replace my Alienware Mx15 with a GTX260M. It came with an MSI backpack which is nice enough to be the official carrying case of this behemoth. So far the first thing people comment on is the sheer size of it. I don't mind, I didn't get it for portability except for around the house. No space/WAF for a full desktop tower so this is a great alternative.
So far so good. A friend of mine got the config with the dual SSD in RAID0 and immediately after witnessing the speed of which it booted Windows I was sold on the SSD option. I ended up getting the version with the single 128GB SSD and 750GB HD. If anyone has doubts about the SSD option let me tell you it is a revelation when you first boot Windows. The whole process takes 30 seconds tops. My old Mx15 takes a few minutes to be fully ready. I am very glad I decided to spend the extra $$ for the SSD option.
Its main purpose in life is gaming and so far it doesn't disappoint. I have tried the following games, all in 1920*1080:
- Diablo III, runs at a nice and smooth 60fps at high settings, dropping slightly when things get busy.
- Anno 2070, the Mx15 had trouble with this, runs nicely and looks very good. If you like trading/building sims, this one delivers the goods and looks fantastic to boot.
- Just Cause 2, great DX10 showcase. High settings, gorgeous looking.
- Witcher 2, another game that I had to scale down significantly to run at acceptable fps on the Mx15, set to ultra, then turned a couple of things off like ubersampling and scaled down shadows and lights one notch. Runs great and looks amazing.
- Trine 2. Simple game but it looks very good. Smooth as a baby's bum.
The best thing by far is the SSD though, no more waiting for Win7 to boot.
One weird thing, it doesn't go to sleep, even when explicitly told to do so by pressing power, using the icon bar or Win start menu. Screen turns off but system doesn't fully shut down. Keyboard lights stay on, fan keeps going. I now just turn it off since it takes no time to shut down and boot back up. But weird nonetheless. Also, it took me a while to figure out default 125% display scaling which made Win7 desktop look all wrong. Set it back to 100% for crisp icons.
Great machine for the $2K it cost. Highly recommended. I'm in Vancouver, Canada btw, purchased at NCIX.
Did I mention I love the SSD? -
Me too. It's gonna break my heart if they don't make a 680m version
-
Did you setup your SSD drive by using the MSI Burn Recovery? Does it works? (Is there any hidden partition for the recovery utilities to work or all will be burnt to the disc?)
-
what's a good program for testing ram? at night while asleep I've had the computer crash, but never saw the error. I caught it on the bsod today. IRQL not less or equal. Usually a memory problem...
-
Memtest+86. You can grab it over on this site http://www.memtest86.com/download.html#R40a Make a boot disc, and see if it passes. Also, it is recommended to test with various configurations. I.e., one stick only, two sticks, and all sticks. This way you can determine which stick is bad. Or if its even the actual slot. Fyi though, the irql bsod can mean a bad hdd too. Among other things as well.

Hi, Sorry if this has been asked already, but I really didn't want to go through 48 pages of comments, and the "search this thread" function didn't work for me.
I want to upgrade my RAM to 8GBx4, currently have 4GBx2. So I opened up the back cover of my GT70 (w00t!!) and see slots 3 & 4? Would you know where are slots 1 & 2? I don't want to unscrew everything if I don't have to.
THANKS! -
They're underneath the keyboard. Undo the keyboard screws and then the led panel. Pop the keyboard off. Your model may have screws that hold the keyboard down, but some don't and you just pop it up. Also, I would say that 32gb is overkill buddy. You'd have to have over a hundreds apps open to make it efficient for its worth. Even if you're video editing, or what not, 16gb is more than enough. I would just get two more 4gb sticks and save the money honestly. 8gb sticks are dramatically more expensive.

If your still unsure search youtube gor gt70 disassembling video.
does anyone use msn messenger on there GT70? It seems i cant login and it causes qualcomm to crash. -
Guys, what does the P1 button do ? And which software from MSI do I need to install to get the FN combinations work
Thanks -
Can any GT60 owners tell me what brand (or even the model # too if you know that) LCD panel your laptop has? I'm not a fan of the Chi Mei matte panels on the GT70 and am hoping the 60's have something different.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Msi like everyone uses a range of panels on all their models. Its a lottery im afraid.
-
+1 for the display panel question. I saw the GT60 at Fry's and I was impressed with the display. Unlike the display on the GT70, which is very grainy (it's the same grainy piece of crap used in the Dell L702x), this one was NOT grainy. It looked quite good.
But I guess if they use different ones, it's anybody's guess what you'd get. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Nothing stopping you from swapping it though =)
-
Thanks for the info! I saw the same grainy Chi Mei panel on a G75 at Best Buy and was like yuck, no way am I spending $1300-$1600 to look at that for 3 years.
-
Any one else having issues getting the GT60 to sleep via the power settings? Sleep Function button works fine
-
P1 = quick-key to your fav prog?
You would need S-Bar.
No problem... found out when I was downloading the D3 client happily, went off... then returned and realized it had slept on me! -
The screen on my GT60 is pretty nice. I just swapped it from an Asus G55W from Fry's. In comparison they are about the same. The GT60 may have a little edge on being sharper, possibly because of a higher contrast ratio. The blacks, whites, brightness and viewing angles are about the same. Also as others have stated, the 17 screens on both Asus and MSI are very grainy.
So far I'm happier on the GT60 than the G55VW. The GTX 670M is noticebly faster and there's Optimus. The build is pretty good, though some creaking. My palm doesn't interfere with typing; the keyboard seems to want more pressure though. I also like the easy expandability and the sound system is way better. The Asus seem very hollow and mono.
It definitely looks like a gamer's laptop with all the lights and buttons, but to me, they all are informative and functional. -

Is there a FN combination that toggle the keyboard light apart from the S bar above the keyboard
-
Guys does the GT70 keyboard have more colour customizations than the GT60. I mean i saw this video MSI GT70 (013US) - 3rd Generation Ivy Bridge i7-3610QM - Video Review by XOTIC PC - YouTube and it seems to have many combinations(light yellow, dark yellow etc)
Can someone check this? It would make me decide which of them i will buy. I have 2 days left to decide.
Thanks -
from what I've heard its exactly the same keyboard and the software supplied for it is also the same. the 2011 15" msi models did not use steelseries only the 17" did, now they both do. the only difference between the models is different board, and no ssd raid option from stock, so unless u need the size, want the ssds in raid (which is great) or bluray. I've also read on this forum msi are going to release a gt60 super raid model, though before I bought my gt70 they told me they won't be.
-
AFAIK, u need the s bar to turnip on/off, but there is an fn function with +/- to dim the lighting. why do u need another option other then the s bar? -
Because the barebone doesn't have the S bar..
Sent from my wholly molly new iPad using Tapatalk -
All Programs>MSI>KLM (Keyboard LED Manager) . Then show hidden icons in the Taskbar, right click the pretty colored wheel, and click settings. Lots of cool options.
-
The barebones laptops also come with the S-Bar.

Guys I'm in the middle east and the GT70 will be released early June here. I saw in one of the stores that they have them in stock already and the specs on their database show it has GTX 675! I'm not sure if this is for real since I've not seen any GT70s online with this GPU even in the MSI website.
Anyone have any info on this? -

Look on these reseller sites for preordering with GTX675M(Fermi).
The GTX680M(Kepler) is still a month or more away?

Did you void your warranty by opening the panel?
I have a samsung ssd I want to put into my gt60 but there's pesky warranty sticker over one of the screws. -
Hi Yujin I'm also residing in middle east. My friend bought GT70 from amazon using his aramex account. It cost for about USD 1700 for the 008US. The question is how much they'll gonna sell the GT70/GT60. Some retailers here are selling notebooks at high price which you'll save much more if you ordered it abroad. By the way, where are you from?
-
Its been said that opening your laptop will not void your warranty as long as no damage is caused in doing so. To be safe contact your retailer or MSI.
The price difference between US and UK is alot, the 011us (top model) is roughly $1949 whereas the cheapest in the UK of the equivalent model 015uk is about £2299. So nearly twice the price. If that helps. -
Hi defzone, I'm from Dubai. Yeah, buying electronics in the ME sucks. Alienware in Virgin costs roughly 25% more- and for lower spec'd models even! (2nd gen i7, etc).
I checked GT70 at Grand Stores and their initial pricing is AED10K (around 2700 USD!). It has GTX 675M though, and the clerk told me the final price might be lower. He'll contact me as soon as the units arrive (early June).
I was thinking of buying online and through Aramex but I am afraid of the import fees/charges and other problems customs might impose on me.
I wonder how your friend fared with his online purchase? -
Import tax is 5% of the price.
-
In the past year Ive had 2 laptops stolen from me, each time i never got it insured in time, ive heard of various tracking software to use, anyone know whats a good 1 to use with gt70 or if there is any software within the bios?
I plan on getting it insured, but if i am to be burgaled again, catching the thieves would be even better! -
I just installed one. I got the sticker too, but took it off. If you're going to install the original OS with the restore CDs and not going to use raid, you'll have to do a clean install. The image seems to be only for a raid setup. I tried repairing the Win7 but it would not work.
So, I backed up the OEM license, installed with a Win7 Home Prem. onto the SSD, installed the drivers and apps, and restored the license.
You also may want to use the SATA connection in the back of the computer, it's version 3. The other one appear to be SATA II.
