You can acronis true image. I just migrated to an SSD also. Imaged the system drive, and broke the raid prior. Its running like a champ! I'm not sure, but you may be able to still use the recovery partition by breaking the raid prior via Intel configuration utility during post? Then running recovery. Has anybody actually done it this way?

I'm from Qatar and recently I bought GT70. I'm waiting for my stuff to arrive. The 008US version I bought cost USD 1594 at amazon. Now, for the shopandship (aramex) will be cost for around 550 dirhams. So the total would be approximately 6500 dirhams. Here in Qatar there's no import tax or something. My friend suggest it before, he bought 2 laptops from amazon.

Mine was on raid 0, so if I broke it, wouldn't the data be lost entirely including the recovery partition?

Yes, technically? You can create the image, prior, using true image. Thus having a complete set of ALL partitions. I.e., recovery, system, and data (d:/). After you then break the raid, all data is lost and both drives are formatted. Now restore using true image and choose how you want to develop a new setup. Generally, raid 0 takes both drives and makes them into one(virtually). True image is smart enough to understand that, and allow the user to reformat how they choose. Clonezilla and other free imaging program won't let you do this because of the way they read the raid drivers and such. Anyways, if you need help with true image alone, let me know. :)

Do you have an original hard disk with Windows that shipped with the notebook or did you buy without Windows?

If you have it put it in the primary P0 position(label facing up) and the SSD into the P1 secondary position.

Download the 1.4 firmware final version and update using the toolbox.
    OCZ Technology

After you update the V4 firmware shut the notebook off and remove the hard drive.Put the SSD in the P0(lablel up) position and power on.

At the 1st screen press Del and enter the bios settings.

In the bios set to AHCI the check the boot order with the ODD 1st,SSD 2nd and the Lan last.Save and exit.

Restart. At the 1st screen press the F11key and choose the Windows 7 x64 installation media.
    _______________

What you'll need to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    USB stick 4GB or larger
    USB stick 256mb or larger
    Windows 7 Ultimate ISO
    Intel RST f6flpy x64

Download the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 ISO
    http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...&txt=English&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13245194375773

Unpack the Windows 7 Ultimate ISO onto the 4GB or larger USB stick using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - CNET Download.com

After the files are on the USB stick open the files and expand the Sources folder. In there find ei.cfg and delete it so all versions of Widows 7 x64 can be install from a single USB stick.

Download the f6flpy Intel RST v11.1.0.1006:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20984
Now unpack the zipped f6flpy file to a new folder onto the 2nd smaller USB stick.

Remove all hard drives from the notebook except the hard drive you will be installing Windows 7 x64 on.It optimally should be in the primary drive position 0 on the SATA bus.I you got your notebook with only one hard drive that drive will be in position 0.

Doing this will insure that a MBR is created for the installation drive.

Make sure the bios is set to ACHI.

Now your ready to install either Windows 7 x64 Ultimate,Professional,Home Premium or Basic.Install the version you have a key for.

Put the 4GB USB stick with Windows 7 x64 in a USB port and press the power-on button.Quickly start pressing the F? key on your notebook that allows you to choose to boot from the USB stick.

The 1st sceen will be for keyboard layout>OK
    Install Now>OK
    Licence Agreement>OK
    Custom Install>OK

Now put the 2nd USB stick with the RST software into a USB port

A screen that has disk utilities and Driver Installation should be showing.

Click on the Disk Utilities.A screen will open where you can view all partitions.

Format all partitions that are showing.

Then delete all partitions until only one large full drive partition remains remains.

When that's finished click on Add Driver.

Browse to the RST folder(don't open it)on the 2nd USB stick and install>OK

Windows 7 will now begin to install.

During the 1st reboot in the Windows 7 installation process remove both USB sticks. If you don't remove the USB sticks the installation process may start from the beginning after the reboot.

    When W7 install finishes install:
    Intel Chipset Installation Software( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=816&DwnldID=20775&lang=eng&iid=dc_rss)

After all this is done install your security software.

After your security software is installed then install your wireless and lan drivers and connect to the internet.

Now install the newest Graphics,Sound,USB 3.0,Card Reader,Touchpad etc

Then install the MSI KLM and NVIDIA OC Tool.

You can then optionally install the THX AP,THX EQ and other utilities.

Sounds like you made an Acronis image of the drives after Windows was first booted and finalized. I can see that working after restoring to a single drive.

I got a clean install so I'm happy with that. Maybe I'll trying restoring it back to the raid setup just to test.

My GT60 shows only one Sata III even though both of my SSDs are IIIs. The Corsair GT is in the back drive bay. I can swap them but the ports remain the same. Your setup shows the SSD in the front perhaps?

    Where in Thailand?

Yeah I did make an image, even from completely different hardware, but I restored it to two separate drives. My raid is broken, but BIOS setting is still raid. OS on my SSD, and data on the 500gb. Clean install was not needed as I have a retail license of win 7 pro. I just imaged my old gt683 and put it on my gt60. Everything works flawlessly!

According to the OCZ Vertex 4 forum some V4 owners are having issues with the SSD being recognized by notebook bios.

Support Question Vertex 4 not found on 1st boot

The combination of the new Marvell 187 controller and OCZ firmware doesn't seem to be working perfectly.

My advice is to return the V4 and get a SanDisk Extreme,Intel 520 or Corsair Performance Pro.

I've had 3 OCZ Vertex 3 MI SSDs and they all worked eceptionally well.

I just got a SanDisk Extreme 240GB and it works great in my GT780DX.

I'll be putting the Windows 8 Release Preview on it as soon as it's released on June 1st.

I found the GT70 from Jarir in Saudi Arabia for 6500 riyals, which is $1733. I calculated the price back in the US and it's exactly $1703, after tax (or $1600 without tax). It's a great deal, if I didn't want a GT60 that is. I'll buy one once I get back to the US.

Anyone know if I can download the GT60 recovery cd anywhere? When I installed a custom windows 7 version I deleted all my drives and the recovery partition is gone. I didn't even have it long enough to make recovery cd.

Just ordered GT60 which will arrive next week, my first MSI ever. Will load Diablo 3, Company of Heroes series, Adobe Lightroom and a trial of Adobe Premier Pro. We'll see how this little beast really performs on the photo and video editing side.

Hi, I'm from Mexico and thanks to this thread I bought my gt70 and had the same issue (msn, gfwl) and also Chrome couldn't sync my account so I decided to make a clean install with my w7 Ultimate DVD but I got an error message saying "Windows can't be installed on this Hardware, restart the Installation".

After several times trying to install W7 and even trying to install it on a Kingston SSD I send my laptop to MSI Mexico to reinstall everything and replace my keyboard since I had several issues with some keys that had to be pressed to rough.

I'm still satisfied with the performance but I'm disappointed with this problems I had in less than a week. =S

Was the GT70 originally setup as raid0?

It sound like the drive was erased with zeros written to the entire drive but not initialized and quick formated after the erase.

I use Parted Magic on a USB stick or CD for my secure erases and partitioning.

Parted Magic is a Linux distro you can boot from if you don't have a drive to boot windows from to do disk management.

If you have access to another PC put the SSD or hard drive in it and boot from a drive with windows on it.

Open the Control Panel. In the control panel click on large icons in the upper right corner if you haven't yet.

    Open Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management.

Right click on the bar of the SSD or hard drive that's been a problem.

    Initialize and quick format.

    You should be OK now.

When installing Windows have the bios set to AHCI and the boot order
    ODD
    SSD/HDD
    Lan

Only the disk Windows will be installed on should be in the notebook during the installation of Windows 7.

RK computers has one for the GT78x series that's kind of pricey.
You can ask them it it will fit the GT60/GT70
    MSI Genuine GT780, GT780R, GT780DX, GT783, MS-1761 Notebook Hard Drive Bracket 307-6F10112-C22

I have 2 of these metal brackets but I use the hard rubber ones that jam in between the drive and the bay wall that can be fashioned from a hard eraser.

Did you get a hard rubber one in the GT60 box?

Does anyone know if there is a way to password protect the RAID utility, or make it otherwise unaccessible to anyone who powers up the laptop? The BIOS does not ask for the system password until after the RAID utility has initialized. This is understandable, I suppose, except that anyone who boots up the laptop can still hose your machine by changing the RAID settings.

Hi, the hard drive was completely formatted using the Windows Utility when you get to choose where to install it. I even dislabled the raid 0 partition wich it was the original setup.

Anyway, I'll save your answare for the future because at this moment the guys from MSI Mexico have received the laptop and they are going to install everything on the ssd I send with the GT70 and they also have to change my keyboard since it's horrible to play any fps pressing some keys without properly response.

Siblings can be such a pain.....

But you're right. I notice the RAID option utility pops up almost immediately. It seems that the only option is to...hide the laptop. Would be nice if the RAID configuration was in the BIOS only and you could just put a password on the BIOS.

Of course, there are only a few hundred more ways for a malicious person to screw up the settings other than the RAID config.

Thanks for the headsup... mine doesn't have the rubber thingie. Seeing that my GT60 is 99% home-based, maybe I'll just leave the SSD as it is for now. :)

Btw, any idea what is a safe limit to overclock the 670M from its stock 620/1500MHz? I found that in D3, during some intense mob fights (with details maxed out), it lags a bit at times.

Hi Irfan. Good to hear that.Ever since I used to bring 17 inch so its not a problem for me. About the SSD I do have plans of changing it later. I'll probably go to intel 520 240GB. So how's your GT 60? I heard they'll release the GT60 with raid msata and GTX675.

So...is the Laptopmag review pretty much the only review of the GT60?

And when it talks about "no multitouch features", which ones is it referring to? Can the thing still scroll?

From a quick Google search, it pretty much is the only full review. You may be able to find a few more on some European or Asian sites.

The only real multi-touch feature they commented about was the pinch to zoom function, which I believe may be more to do with Windows settings than the actual touchpad. You should still be capable of scrolling with the touchpad though.

i dont know why but i'm kinda against intel pricetag with its 'not that fast' SSD. would rather swap for samsung ssd 830 256gb or corsair force GT 240gb. no, i bought the very first version one with 1TB (500gb raid 0 HDD) and gtx 670m. this graphic card is not good :(. i wanna buy mxm 675m but not sure is it worth the upgrade or 7970m(can't find anywhere)

    Hi, I'm having a trouble!
I make a clean install of windows 7 sp1 ultimate, and i cannot install the following drivers:

Intel HD Graphics (Cannot instal the driver, there's no compatible hardware)
Nvidia GTX670 (this controller cannot find the specific compatible hardware)
Bluetooth (Must be plugged to be installed)

For the first one, I think theres sucha a trick or something like that to install, do i have to install the drivers in order? or download something else that doesn't appear on the page?

For the Bluetooth, what should i do? is turned on the Wireless button, and also the laptop come with it.

What does "Not That Fast" mean?

The Intel 520 series have a 5 year warranty.

I like my new Sandisk Extreme 240GB with 24nm Toshible Toggle NAND.

I'm sure,in every day usage, any one of us would be hard pressed to notice any difference between any of the current SATA III SSDs where 80% of disk access is 16k files or smaller with most being writes.

Running the HDD Suite of SATA III in Vantage the Intel 520 240Gb is 2nd to the Plextor M3 Pro.

On the GT60 and GT70 downloads from MSI there's no Battery Calibration Utility as there is for the GT78x series.

    Here's an alternative;

You can extract the original msi battery calibration utility from the recovery partition. That's what I did. It will be in the program files directory. Just copy it over.

You don't have to install them in any order. Maybe you need to run the intel chipset installer? Try that first. But the downloads from msi's site shouldn't be a problem?

If you have a recovery partition.

In some locations the branded MSI notebooks are sold without an OS.

My present location,Seoul,is one example where the branded MSI's are retailed without Windows 7 preinstalled.

That's kinda strange they won't install? You can try safe mode. Also, you can try manually installing them. Open up device manager and right click a device. Then select scan for hardware changes. The missing drivers should present a pop-up. You can then point to the appropriate .ini file by choosing "show all listed devices". Then browse to the driver. But make sure to extract the driver installers first.

Are you doing a raid0 array clean install or single drive with bios set to AHCI?

    SSD or HDD?

There's a beta driver for Intel 3rd generation HD 4000 graphics:
    intel drivers pour chipsets Graphiques

If you have Killer wireless 1102 or 1103 there's no Bluetooth

If you're using Intel wireless with Bluetooth look here for drivers
intel drivers pour chipsets Reseaux (Lan) & Wifi (Wireless)

    I recently bought the MSI GT70 ONC-027NL
The webcam itself is working just fine. However the indicator LED seems to be broken.
According to the manual there's an indicator LED when the webcam is in use.
I can't get it to work. Like I said the webcam is working fine.
I tried booting Linux, but same deal. Webcam works, no indicator LED.

Seems like a broken LED or the manual is wrong and there's no webcam indicator LED.
The integrated webcam is detected as a Bisoncam NB Pro.
There's no updated driver for it other than the built-in driver for Windows 7 64 bits.
Furthermore I found no evidence online that the LED can be controlled by software.
In my experience integrated webcams on notebooks come with an indicator LED.
I tried the camsoft that came with it and other video capture applications. Tried Cheese for Linux too, still no go.

I hope any of you GT70 owners can tell me if their LED is working or if there simply is no indicator LED. I assume all GT70's have an indicator LED?
I prefer a webcam with indicator LED to know it's in use or not.
    Thank you!

It doesn't have an indicator. The thing in the manual is probably for different models!
