Hi guys - i'm new here.
Maybe you can help me, i am considering to buy the GT70 with these specs:
MSI GT70 0NC 029NE:
Intel Core i7 3610QM
8 GB DDR3
750 GB HDD / 7200 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M / Intel HD Graphics 4000 - 3 GB GDDR5
Price: 1589,95 EUR
The retailer has offered a fee of EUR 40,37 for installing these components:
2x OCZ Nocti mSATA SSD - SATA-300 60GB EUR 151,51
2x Kingston HyperX PnP 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 CL9 EUR 210,99Subtotal: EUR 402,87
Total EUR 1992,89
The alternative is a model whics comes with the preinstalled components, priced EUR 2235,30
This should save me EUR 242,48.
1. Is it possible to setup the two msata disks as a raid configuration on this model? (even though it is'nt the "top model")
2. What are your thoughts about the memory upgrade? Are they compatible? (kingston memory configurator suggest only valueram =| )
3. Your thoughts about using this system for 3D architecture modelling in autodesk revit? (student use).
Thx in advance =)

Back to the bright light on the power button for a sec., I don't mind it when I'm up and running but it completely drives me nuts the way it blinks white when the GT60's asleep. Any way to change the blink? They have cool options for what the keyboard does when it's asleep.
Gotta say - great notebook, though. With my Samsung 830, it screams. -
-
true adapter but where we can buy a one ?
-
-
Loving my GT60 too! -
-
Just got my GT60 a few days ago and so far it is pretty beastly, however, i have been having some problem's with the audio ports. When i plug in headphones into the first jack sound comes through but it slowly fades in and out getting louder and then softer. Also, when i try and use my turtle beach x11's it doesn't recognize when i plug in the microphone cable. Any thoughts?
-
Isn't the headphone jack the furthest one back?
-
The headphone jack is the first one...closest to the front edge. Go into the RealTek audio setttings (should be an icon on the desktop) and make sure the settings are set for Stereo, not Quadraphonic or any other setting. That should correct the headphone problem. Not sure about the mike problem, but sometimes I have to plug in the headphone jack more than once to get the system to recognize it. A bit of a nuisance, but I do not have a solution for that.
-
I ordered the GT60 yesterday from a local store, but they have yet to send me a e-mail telling me to go pick it up. Now I am debating about cancelling it and waiting for the new version of the GT60. I tried calling the store 4 times and was holding for over 5 minutes each time and no response, just to ask if my order is ready. Aggh.
-
Hi everyone. I am not a gamer, but based on my other needs the GT60 seems to be pretty much the ideal laptop. I am going to pick one up in the next few days. A few questions though:
I understand it ships with Win7 Home Premium pre-installed and the 2x500GB hard drives pre-configured as RAID0. I much prefer the idea of using RAID1, as that will give me peace of mind for a (presumably) minor loss of performance. What's involved in making the switch? I assume it's a BIOS setting? Does BIOS enable boot just as easily from RAID0 or RAID1? Do I need to wipe everything out and start from scratch, or is there a simpler approach on a brand new machine?
Does the laptop package come with physical media for Win7? What about the other pre-installed software? Does the box include physical media in order to do a re-install? Is any of the included software worthwhile or is it just bloat?
Many thanks.
( above post copied from GT60: Ships with RAID0, want to convert to RAID1 ) -
Even better was the price I paid. Got it dirt cheap through the gf's business
It's also my first real gaming laptop/pc.
Also came with a sealed copy of W7. -
Well I returned my gt60 due to the sPeaker problem but am also concerned about the keyboard.. Does anyone else have an issue with the space bar sometimes not being registered when you hit it?

WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
The SanDisk U100 mSATA SSDs that MSI puts in there preconfigured Super Raid models are SATA III.
MSI stock specs also have DDR3-1600.No real reason to put the HyperX unless you want the lower CAS latency. -
Okay guys, I just picked up my GT60 a few minutes ago, but I want to know if I will void warranty if I switch out one of the HDD for SSD?
-
-
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
After RAID is selected in the bios, saved and system rebooted then by pressing Ctrl plus I on startup will bring up/allow entry to the RAID configuration utility where you will choose the member drives for the array and the type of RAID....RAID0,RAID1,RAID5.... -
Could all you GT60 owners please comment on whether or not you have sensitivity problems with the spacebar? Does it sometimes not register when you are typing? Mine didnt and I need to know if they are all like that or mine was just buggy, so I can decide if I want a replacement or a diff laptop if thats a problem with all of them

Good day guys!
I have made my GT60 order from GenTechPC yesterday and it took 24hours for them to authorize it without answering my question. To expedite the process, hope you guys may help me out.
1. I have a stock configuration in addition of upgrading to 16gb ram and disabling raid, does this consider as "custom-built" which takes 5~7business day for them to build and test? If not, how long will it takes before they ship it off?
2. I'm getting it for my studies in UK. And I know that the power adapter can be supported in the UK due to the input voltage of 100~240V (after changing it into an UK plug). But the output current of the US adapter is 9.47A whereas the UK has an output current of 4.74A. Will it be fine to operate in this situation?
Thank you! -
So I bought an Adata SX900 128GB and tried to install it. Removed the 750GB HD temporarily first, but..
Tried to install via the 1) MSI recovery discs, 2) clean install of win7sp1 iso (dvd), 3) clean install of win7sp1 iso (USB stick)... same result - either on restart or fresh bootup, it will hang at "Starting Windows" randomly.
Applying Win Updates, or the latest Intel chipset or IRST drivers did not help too.
Very frustrated now. Are there outstanding issues between the SF-2281 controller and the IB in our GT60? Any tips for me? "( -
I bought the GT60 retail of NCIX and it didn't come with any extra goodies.
As for the spacebar delay..... I typed a sentence 10 times and had no problems with the spacebar.
Also I have 2 questions for people with GT60/70.
1. Is the new Realtek audio drivers not supposed to have the different room sound and equalizers as they had in the GT60R/GT70R series? I really liked that.
2. I have the Bigfoot Network Card, when I look at Network Status it says Network card is disabled and the icon has a red x. Is it supposed to be like that as well? -

Bootup the 750.
When back in Windows on the 750 open the control panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management
If the drive is there as unallocated right click on it>initialize it and quick format NTSC/4096.You can assign a drive letter if you want.
Now shut down and remove the 750.
Reboot and press Del on first screen.
In the bios make sure it's set to AHCi then set your boot order
1st ODD
2nd SSD
3rd Lan
Save and reboot
Press F11key on the first screen and choose your Windows 7 installation disk.
Install Windows
Remember after you put the 750 back in you'll need to go back into the bios to set the boot order again.
Keep the SSD in the primary P0 position(label facing up). -
Anyway, here's how the innards of the GT60 looks like:

My GT70 came with the TSST DVDWBD TS-LB23D, does anyone know how i make it region free?
I bought it in Canada and I'm using it in UK and cant play my blu rays.
i have changed the settings to uk region 2 but it still doesnt work -
Come on guys I see a bunch of you posting here who own the GT60... How is everyone else's keyboard? Any problems with the keys sometimes not registering, especially the space bar, or is everyone's keyboard flawless? -
There were a few cases of faulty keyboards, but it wasn't widespread I believe.
-
-
I just tested mine, typing several sentences. No problems here. I've heard about a few others who had the same problem. I wouldn't know of course, but there might be a bad lot that came out of the factory. Better contact your retailer.
-
I still havent been able to get my gt70 to play blurays from UK, if anyone has any ideas would be much appreciated.
-
LMAO, I spent 4 hours trying to setup my GT60 with ssd caching and I was doing raid 0 with ssd and hdd. Only to find out that they aren't supposed to be in raid 0. Also I installed a seperate OS (not the OS that comes with notebook) and now I don't have the recovery files anymore.
-
Anybody found a nice slim 19V AC adapter that works with the GT60/GT70? The OEM unit is a freaking monster - fine for keeping under the desk at home but not something I want to take on the road.
I get that 180W necessitates a big brick, but I'd like to get a small, portable unit - even if it just "treads water" while the machine is in use, and takes an entire night in the hotel room to fully charge the battery. -
-
I have sold notebook before, the freebies are nothing much, the cost price(s) of the free stuff is/are being deducted off the profit margin. I suspect the profit margin for the SG model is quite profitable too. -
I recently passed through the US and purchased a GT60. I've always used it with an external keyboard plugged in, so it wasn't until recently that I discovered the keyboard is borked. The spacebar and several other keys fail to register when pressed approximately 15% of the time.
Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement keyboard? -
about to be a proud owner of a gt70
ill post a review and benchmarks also an unboxing etc after it arrives in 4-6days i see mostly gt60 owners but i ratherd the 17.3inch screen.
-
Any news about the temps on your GT60 guys? How is it on idle/normal browsing vs gaming?
-
Hi everyone!
I'm now enjoying my new notebook, the model is:
MSI GT60 0NC-004US
Upgrades:
Ram -16Gb
Blu-ray Burner
My review:
AC Adapter
It's HUGE! and let me say, its heavy... and heats up very quickly. I had 3 notebooks, 15 (HP-2003), 17 (HP-2006) and the last one is 15.4 (ASUS-2008), and all the adapters looks tiny compared to this one.
Phisical
Looks bigger than other notebooks from similar sizes, also is thicker than others. Leaving behind this, its really awesome, there are some rubbers that lift the back, making the air to flow. The location of the USB is dissapointing, in the right side, there's only one USB... this drive me crazy ! i've always plug the mouse in the right side, but its just at the half of the side and my mouse is always crashing with it...The ports behind, remind me the notebooks from the old school. The aluminium makes it easy to get dirty.
Sensitive buttons
First, to activate the TDE, you must be plugged. The other buttons, sometimes doesn't react as you wish...
Keyboard
In the night the backlight is cool, but sometimes the software goes crazy, and turn on itself, i've read a lot of people suffering with the space bar, but i must say: the mine is very sensible. I barely touch it and ups! it place a "space" in my document... All the keys feels good at the touch, but i miss the key that open the contextual menu
Screen
I always had glossy screens, but this one, is really awesome! But the edge of the screen its glossy LOL
Sound
What can i say? I had an HP DV8000 and its sound where louder, but the sound of the MSI beat it on quality, and the subboffer wow sounds great!
Performance
The processor is very good, also the video card, and i'm not intended to use it as a game console, but why not play sometimes with it...
As far as i used, i can say its a cool notebook, it doesn't warm up easily.
PRO:
Price/value
Screen (size-resolution)
Sound
TDE (with one button)
CONS:
AC Adapter
USB location (look on the phisical)
The missing Key (contextual menu)
Aluminium
If you ask me if I buy this laptop knowing what I know now, the answer is: YES!
But let me tell you something, if "ASUS" would have had a laptop with the same specs, and price, I'm sure would have bought an ASUS.
I wanna make a clean reinstall, but i've lost the drivers disk if anyone have all the apps that came with it or know where to download it please tell me! -

1: Any configuration will have to send to production queue but for RAM upgrade and disable RAID won't take 5~7 days.
2: The adapter works world-wide and all you have to do is change the plug to the wall. -

The differences i noticed are in bold highlight.
Sorry for the long post but want to pick this up today or tommorrow. I appreciate all of your posts as they are very informative as this forum changed me from looking at Asus vs MSI. -
Sharkx: if you can swing it, the third config will be a screamer. The two SSDs in RAID 0 along with the 750GB hd is a definite major upgrade to the first config speed-wise. I'd also have them throw in an extra 4GB of RAM just for giggles.
If #3 is not do-able, then obviously #2 would be preferable over #1. -
I'm having some trouble with the brun recovery program. hen I try to run it I get this error "OS Install Drive or Data Label Error. Please make sure OS_Install and Data Drive Label Exist." Anyone know a solution to this problem?
