I had this problem whenever I tried to watch youtube videos in IE. Try watching them in chrome or firefox. I know it may sound stupid, but just try it. It seemed to work for me.

So I just bought the GT70 on Friday. I started up the system and did a Microsoft performance test. 5 seconds into the test I get a message saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered". It repeats this message about 2-3 times then BSOD with reference given to nvlddmkm.sys. This is right out of the box. Never connected to the internet, no system changes. I have installed all driver updates, Microsoft updates... and I still have the same problem. I tried running WOW and it stops responding at the log in screen along with the "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" message.

Now my question is: Is this a hardware problem or software problem?

Coming straight from the box brand new with all the standard drivers installed, and no system changes, this should not happen, right?

Even when I updated everything it happens.

I have re-installed a number of times and still have the issue.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it's the same shape. The 7 series (78x and GT7x) will have a little bit of foam under it I think to make it fit 100% snug, but otherwise they are identical to the 6 series (6x0, 68x and GT6X) notebooks.

hey guys so i was on this forum before, max payne not working on my gt 70 with the 670m nvidia finally got back to me and said that they had no info on upcomming releases and that when it does msi is going to have to drop it for our specific notebook not nvidia ?... so there just arent drivers and i just wont play max payne ... this is what they wrote

    Hello Devon,

Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.

This is Shreyas, assisting you with the issue that you are experiencing.

I understand from your email that you are unable install the driver available on NVIDIA website.

There are a few options available to upgrade NVIDIA drivers for notebook computers.

    1) Primary Source = Notebook Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)

The primary source for graphics drivers is from your notebook OEM. These drivers have been fully qualified by the OEM to work with their specific notebook customizations. NVIDIA does not control the schedule for updates to these OEM drivers.

    2) Optional Source = Direct from NVIDIA

Please note that drivers direct from NVIDIA are provided as is and do not carry any guarantees, warranties, or support. NVIDIA recommends that you check with your notebook OEM about recommended software updates for your notebook. OEMs may not provide technical support for issues that arise from the use of drivers on NVIDIA.com.

The reason the drivers are not working from NVIDIA website is that the laptop graphics card is customize before installing the graphics card in the laptop. We are not involved during the installation/production of the graphics card. We provide just the basic chipset of the graphics card to the laptop manufacturer. as of now we do not have the drivers for the GeForce GTX 670 M Graphics card, we do not have information on future release, I would request you to sign up in the below mentioned link for constant updates on the driver.

    Sign-up for the NVIDIA Newsletter

    3) Third Party sources

If you have an older GPU or a system not supported by the NVIDIA BETA notebook driver, and are willing to risk a third party solution, you may try LaptopVideo2Go: NVIDIA & Laptop News. This website hosts desktop graphics drivers which have been modified to install on a notebook. Please keep in mind that these modified drivers do not contain any customizations for your system, and will not be supported by the maker of your laptop or by NVIDIA.

Please let us know if you would like to try the third party solution.

I will look forward to your reply to assist you better.

    Best regards,
    Shreyas

I think you are stressing..... and understandably so, BUT..... perhaps I can help you BREATHE! (deep breath, good air in, bad air out) :D

I am not surprised at the generic response, with the standard disclaimers and the like. This is due to agreements with their OEM partners. Anyhow again, not to worry...... the GTX-670M & 675M are not currently supported by nVidia's Verde Driver Program, but rest assured, they will be. Yes, it appears they acknowledge what I told you before..... that these cards are MSI productions...... BUT, remember they are built to nVidia's design reference spec, and it's NVIDIA's GPU!. When nVidia adds support for these new cards to their driver program, their drivers will work fine with these MSI produced cards. Since MSI produced your card, nVidia's common response will always suggest you to seek drivers from the OEM..... and as a matter of fact, these same standard disclaimers are found on their driver download site.

Anyhow, I have seen this dozens of times, and again, we just experienced the same situation with the GT780/783 series...... and YET, nVidia drivers are now working just fine in our machines. There is always a lag in driver support when new cards are released and introduced by the OEM's...... newly released OEM drivers are generally always immature and lame...... and shortly thereafter, nVidia finally adds the GPU to their driver program. It's just a matter of time, so patience..... you'll see!

Keep watching both MSI & nVidia for driver updates.

    :)

Yes, the OP can use a modded driver (if comfortable doing so), but I think he should also understand his GPU will shortly be supported by nVidia..... in spite of the email he received.

    :)

So I just picked up the MSI GT70. Everything was great until I plugged in home theater system into the headphone jack. The sound is not that good at all. Is there a new sound driver or something I need to adjust?
I had an ASUS G73Jh before and the sound was alot better.
    Any advice?

Try changing the setting in the THX TruStudio Pro program. There are options for headphones, built-in speakers, and external speakers. That should probably help the sound quality a good bit.

Unfortunately that has not helped. It just seems that there is something missing. It's like I only have the lowest range and highest range sliders of an equilizer available, nothing inbetween. So, the highs are too tinny and the lows (bass) is muffled. Which audio out jack would be best to plug in my home theater?

Hi guys...just I want to ask...really what is the idea of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M/675...it is useless...look here :
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
and even the GeForce GTX 675M look her :
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
also look at the one year old GeForce GTX 580M :
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    another link:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aqwlknG718

all the tests and Benchmarks on the GeForce GTX 675M and GeForce GTX 580M show that 675 only give 1-4% improvement over the 580 and sometimes less , and even worse the 670 is less in all Benchmarks than 580 (1 year old) so i don't feel that this laptop is something special....only CPU maybe.

    can someone comment on that?

A 670M is just an overclocked 570M and a 675M is an overclocked 580M. You can expect better performance with the 675M when the drivers come out, but not by much over the 580M.

The real deal is the upcoming 680M :)

Where did you get it from? Try contacting you reseller.

    Agreed!

This is the way of the world in GPU's. The 580 was the card I was looking for since I came back into the market for a notebook. It s quite strong and will be an upgrade from my gtx 460m.

All cards are rebrands to a degree. The only time you see large boosts in performance is when new architecture is developed.. Like this 680 Kepler on the way. This is the Tao of Tech.

I'm okay with it.. Keep the mindset that its all disposable in a year And your good to go!

Once mature drivers come out for the 675 it will be satisfying for a good while with the types of games I personally play. That's all that really matters, right?

    :p

Most tech forums are saying buy the end of summer, but could be sooner. I would bet Clevo/Sager would be one of the first.. Not really sure. All will be competing to get it out there.

As an earlier poster said, if possible go to your reseller first and get an exchange ... otherwise you are looking at an RMA through MSI which means shipping your machine away and waiting until it comes back.

I had a keyboard issue with my GT60 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/667741-gt60-gt70-bad-keyboards-thread.html) and got a replacement machine now.

My supplier also said it doesn't have an indicator LED for the webcam. After closer inspection in the manual I also noticed that there's a little hole next to the webcam where the LED is supposed to be. The GT70 model doesn't have that hole, so all is fine. Thanks! :)

the GT70 will have the GTX 680m.....any news a bout GT60.....since I am not fan of big laptop.
the good thing I was seeing in MSI that GT70 and 60 have nearly the same spec.
so ...any news about the GT60 with GTX 680m.....??

    ^ Exciting news indeed.

As per past practices, it is available for consumers to get DIY kits to upgrade the GPU themselves? I'm assuming of cos that it's a straightforward physical swap for the 670M in the GT60. ;)

PS: So I've read that people can overclock the 570M to 750/1800 at stock voltage, should I assume the same figures thereabouts for the 670M?

For some reason my gt70 started coming out of fullscreen games when i adjust the volume, is there any way to fix this? causes a couple seconds lag and then i gotta go bk to full screen.

Also the issue with optimus not turning off with some games, ive set gtx670 as default for the game, i have to do this everytime before i start a game even though it show at start as selected, then when im in game, after a couple hours, the pwer light turns bk white, does this mean its moving back to the optimus while in game? i often get crashes after a couple hours too saying error the game has to be closed.

    Hello, all..

Another Optimus graphics question on the GT70.

When plugged in, my system runs smooth maxed out at 1080P and high settings on most games...

When unplugged... It REALLY slows down. I am assuming it is downscaling to the onboard graphics at this point? I did not notice the light on the power button, but I will have to check and see if it is white or orange...

I changed my power settings to always run at a min/max of 100% to see if that did the trick, but it did not.

Is there any way to force the nVidia card when unplugged? I tried going in to the nVidia panel and tuen off the auto switch and force the GTX670, but that did not seem to fix it...

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

You cannot get full performance on battery power. Simply because the battery doesn't deliver enough wattage to power everything at full power. This is a universal truth with all laptops and not just MSI's.

    1 with increased VRAM.

I talked some more with the United States MSi rep, and it looks like only the gt70 and the barebone will get any upgrades from now on :( He gave me a roadmap, and only the gt70 will have the gtx 680m.

As for the gt60, it looks like the gt60 with super raid is available in the UK, but with the gtx 670m. I don't know what the roadmap looks like for other countries, but the US only gets to beef up the gt70.

Honestly, it's really confusing how the MSi branches in different countries operate. I emailed the rep back and forth about it, and it looks like on,y the gt70 gets any love from msi. But because of the smart mod guys we have around these forums, it won't be impossible to put your own gtx 680m in a gt60 (which is what I plan to do :D). If you want, you can wait and see what resellers in other countries provide.

ya idk i think i will just go with the 7970 on the sager np9150 upgrading to 680m will probably cost me like $500 dollars anyways
dont know if i want to pay that and 7970 will do me just fine for at least 2 years

also i really have no preference of gt60 over np9150 however i do like i can get a no branding lid o np9150

Sounds good! I likewise was going for a np9150, but I'm gonna invest in a 16f3 then buy the 7970m + heatsink or the gtx 680m. Good luck on whatever you buy birdsonbat :D no branding is a neat choice; makes it look sleek :)

I can't believe so many people fell for nvidia trick getting a 670m or 675m. I say you deserve it for buying old gpu's. Its like amd releasing 6970m rebranded to 7965m lol and people buying it. At the end of the day 40nm fermi is 2 and a half year old technology and kepler 28nm has all the new features. There are so many mugs in this forum buying gtx 670m or 675m over a gtx 660m or 7970m.

Funny thing is a 7970m takes 50w less on stress test then the 675m and is 80% faster.

Any Diablo 3 players with the GT60? What kind of frame rates are you getting? Any studdering when running through "mist" when new objects come into the screen?

Ok I have a question I was just messing aroundon the MSI Global site and downloaded MSI Live Update 5. does anyone use this utility? or is it recommended to do your updates manually? I ran a scan and noticed there was a driver update for the Realtek Audio Drivers and other utilities that it says are not installed. these utilities are MSI Utilities Easy Viewer and Video Genie. and two other utilites called Titanium 2012 and Splashtop Connect. Im trying to investigate these now but was wondering if anyone could offer some insight.
