Hmmmmmm, a background as an electronic salesman? Interesting! And this is supposed to bring the OP credibility here?

Sorry, but all this is a little difficult to swallow. Seems a knowledgeble and educated electronics salesperson would better understand the role of a reseller, verses the responsibilities of the manufacturer and their product warranty.

Furthermore, it seems someone with such a background would offer more professionalism..... and demonstrate a far better understanding of problem solving, communications, and people skills here.

Another thing that immediately strikes me odd, is the OP readily admits he failed to bring his complaints to the reseller's attention. WHY? Because as the OP states, and I quote, " they (GenTech) are not responsive and efficient". To this I really had to laugh, and this is a clear case of the 'pot' calling the 'kettle' black. At this point my BS-meter was REALLY screaming..... and LOUDLY! I mean, how can the reseller be 'non-responsive', IF THE OP ADMITS HE DID NOT CONTACT THEM! LOL! AND, the entire manner of how this OP has addressed his complaints, speaks poorly to 'efficiency'.

The OP further states, " I was wondering whether it is a refurbish set but I do not want to malign them so I just brought the labtop to the service centre". Hmmmmm interesting, and apparent trust issues, yet obviously the OP had enough initial faith to purchase from GenTech to begin with. The OP does not want to malign them..... BUT what precisely is the OP attempting to do HERE..... in an open global forum?

The OP only has a sum of 5 forum post as of this writing. If he had exercised due diligence, he would know most resellers here are courteous, helpful, and very reputable. All of this is really a shame, because Ken and others here, go out of their way to insure customer satisfaction. This could, and should have been handled in an entirely different manner. Bottom line: The OP should have communicated his concerns with GenTech from the onset.

Sorry kenryou, but bashing reputable resellers here won't win you much favor..... but good luck anyhow, in resolving all your issues.

    :)

I was going to write something similar to striker lol but glad he did it for me.

I'll simply state you attract more bee's with honey than you do with poison.

If you really wanted help the best thing to do would have been asking for it not ranting, and we all have rights to rant as customers but the rant needs to be genuine and yours has no right nor reason.

As a customer service professional based on what was stated here about how you were trouble from the start (Mr. complaining about the laptop not being worked on and shipped within 30 minutes) you learn to notice when people are trouble from the start and you seem to be trouble.

This kind of trouble usually has hidden motives, either being not fully committed to purchase of something or trying to scam.

Based on the facts presented thus far you could be one or both.

Hey guys, Ive been silently stalking this forum to dig up info on the GT60

Eventually decided to buy it as my first proper gaming laptop, my college laptop died so i thought what the heck! :)

    Listed laptop on komplett.ie
    MSI GT60, i7-3610QM, GTX670 3GB, 8GB ram, 128gb SSD+ 750GB HDD,
unit was delivered to the Dublin pickup point within 2 days! that was great! unfortunately there had been some sort of a mix up and mine did not contain the 128gb SSD as advertised, was quite annoyed as you may imagine :S

I did the opposite to "kenryou" and contacted costumer services at komplett.ie (btw guys if you are on this forum, please get a call-hold feature ;) ) a costumer services agent Alan, stuck with me through my two days of distress and annoyance, and helped me out greatly! komplett are now sending me a free ocz vertex 4 128gb ssd! could not be happier!
sure it would have been great to have one right off the bat, but stuff happens, alan was very apologetic ( albeit it was no where near his fault ) and nice about the whole ordeal.

i think i missed the ssd delivery today but ah well i can pick it up later,

to wrap this up, i just wanted to thank Komplett.ie and alan, a stand up company, with great products services and prices! :)

new GT60 is a beautiful creature, runs everything on smooth, even guild wars 2 on full with it being linked to both monitor and a 43" tv,

if you are thinking of buying one.... do :)
just be careful ( this perhaps is my own noobishness) but the e2200 killer big-foot car appears to be only the Ethernet card and not wifi like i hoped , but no bigigie :)

sorry for the first and long post!

Which settings have you checked so far? Have you checked your Realtek Audio manager in the Control Panel?

Also, check the Sound options under Control Panel and see if something may have been muted.

Best of luck with the notebook and Vertex 4.

The V4 had a cold boot recognition issue in some notebooks that has now been fixed with a firmware update.

If you experience this issue see this thread.

Checked and checked. Even if it was muted it should still allow me to change the default mic (Even tried in Skype and Yahoo Messenger's setting's) and re-installed the driver's for Realtek.

Like I said, I plug the mic into the correct 3.5mm socket and it acknowledges something's has been plugged into it but that's about as far as it goes

Purchased a 3.5 - USB thingy to try it that way. As long as it works like that I'm not too fussed. Just wish the bloody postman would hurry up and deliver it, it's 11:47AM already...

I have been bashing my head against the wall on this issue all day long! I just replaced one of the 500GB SATA drives with a Crucial M4 128GB SSD SATA3... For the life of me I cannot get the SSD to run in 6GB/s rather than 3... I have performed every SSD tweak I can find, I have updated the intel drivers to the latest version. The SSD has been updated to the latest firmware... I have a clean install of Windows 7.... Any one have any ideas? Screen shots below...

Is the bios set to AHCI?

Is the SSD new or used before?

If used, was it secure erased and quick formated before the OS was installed.

Is the SSD by chance in a caddy in the optical bay or or is it in the SATA internal bay?

The optical bay is SATA II.

Yep, BIOS is set to AHCI.

I just tried to swap around the 500GB and the SSD to see if it was the port I was using, same issue though.

The SSD is brand new, first OS install. The SSD isn't in a caddy, or the optical bay, I have moved it from the sata port right above the cd rom to the one in the back

When I do clean installs on my SSDs I put the SSD in the primary P0 position(label facing up) and remove all the other drives.

I install the f6flpy x64 version of Intel RST at the add driver screen of the Windows installation.

    Version 11.2.0.1006:
    intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci

At the completion of the installation I install the Intel Chipset Installation Software that enables the chipsets features.

Did you install the chipset software?

Yep, chipset installed, I actually have one version newer then what you have posted. If I try to reinstall should I wipe the SSD since I have already installed Windows 7?

Just updated the BIOS to the latest version also, still showing 3GB/s - I am going to remove the 500GB WD and see if that corrects the issue. If not I think I will try your steps and see if that works.

I don't apply any tweaks to my SSDs.

After Windows is installed and I installed the chipset software, netFramwork 4,newest graphics, sound drivers I run the Microsoft WEI and I'm good to go.

Then I put in the rest of the drivers, utilities and software I need.

If you need to start over then create a Parted Magic Linux USB boot drive and secure erase the SSD while it's on P0 and the only drive in the notebook.

After it's been secure erased shutdown.Remove the Parted Magic USB stick. Put the 500GB hard drive that came with the notebook back into the notebook on P1 and boot from it.

Open the Control Panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management and find the P0 drive(SSD).It will show as a long bar and unallocated.

Right click on the bar, initialize, and quick format NTFC 4096

Shut down and remove the hard drive leaving only the SSD.

Put in your Windows 7 DVD or USB stick and boot up.

    Choose Custom Installation.

At the next screen there's disk utilities and add driver options.

Open the disk utility and see if only one partition is showing.

Close that and click on add driver.

You should have the f6flpy x64 Intel RST folder on a USB stick for installation now.

Insert the USB stick and poind the add driver to the f6flpy x64 folder.Install>OK

    Windows will begin to install.

During the 1st reboot remove the RST USB stick and Windows 7 USB stick if you're installing from USB.

    Complete Windows 7 x64 installation.

If and when you put the hard drive back in you need to set the bios boot order again so the notebook boots from the SSD and not the hard drive

You have mention P0 a few times, when I look at the devices in BIOS I have P1 (SDD) P2 (Optical) P3 nothing P4 (500GB Sata)

There isn't a port I am looking over and missing correct?

Also, after you do the install, do you install the Intel RST utility also?

Anybody else find the keyboard on the GT60 a little stiff and find they get missed keystrokes every now and then?

I do like the GT60 quite a bit, but the keyboard seems stiff and I keep finding I miss the spacebar or other keys...

Looking down into the bottom of a GT60 the hard drive with the label showing is P0.The drive with it's underside showing is P1(see attachment)

    The ODD is P2.

Was your notebook originally setup with 2 hards in a raid0 array?

IF you had raid0 array did you clear the cmos and reset the bios after the raid array was broken by removing the battery, power cord and then the red and black wire by the fan for a few minutes?

This is the same as removing the cmos button battery from a desktop motherboard.

After the cmos is cleared the bios clock needs to be reset as well as setting again back to AHCI and the boot order before saving.

Now you would be ready to set up Windows on a single drive.

If I install the RST during the fresh Windows installation at the add driver screen I don't install it again after the installation completes.

I currently have the drive in P1 then.... What is odd to me is when I have the drive in what you have labeled as P0, it shows up in BIOS as P3.

Yes the system came with RAID 0 - I did not reset the CMOS, I went into the RAID utility, deleted the array, set BIOS to AHCI, installed the SSD and installed Windows.

For some reasons, it seems that there's only 1 SATA3 port in MSI GT60/70 and Barebone 16F3/1762.
If you want to use full speed of your SATA3 SSD, you will have to connect it to the right bottom slot as showed in WhatThePoint photo as this will work in SATA3. Then connect your HDD in the top slot.

The RAID0 array of SSD will then be useless as it only uses SATA2 I suppose and this only affects the new generation of MSI...I hope they will sort this soon.

I apologize as I have jumped the gun.

First of all, I did not accuse GenTech for sending a refurbished set. I stated I was wondering...it is still a big question mark. Furthermore, I said I do not wish to malign the company as I am not sure whether it is a refurbished set.

Vicious, can you define fully committed to purchase? Because I have paid the thing in full so what does that mean? Next, you can check with Ken whether I have demanded anything from him. He offered to send me the recovery DVD and I have rejected the offer because I think if the notebook is sent back to me in perfect condition, I could do it myself.

I have sent in the laptop on the 6th of June and until today, neither the engineer nor technician can give me a rough date to collect it as they still can't rectify the problem.

Yes, I am ranting as a frustrated customer for I cannot proceed to do my work and studies for a whole 2 weeks or coming to 3, by next week.

Lastly, both of you were just merely reading through the post as you do not clearly understand the statement.

As mentioned early, for the accusation of sending in the refurbished set. Next, who said I have asked them to send the notebook within 30mins?
Oh, this is not your fault, as Ken clearly does not understand what I am writing in the mail, so I shall post what I wrote to him and you shall compare it to Ken's statement. It will make a different.

    Ken

    Please do so, thank you.

Please do understand that I do not wish to have a half an hour job to be drag for more than 5days.

    - Which they have shipped on the 7th business day. So which part of my sentence implied that he shall send in the notebook within 30mins?

I shall wait for the service centre report before making any sensible comments.

    You're not the only one ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/667741-gt60-gt70-bad-keyboards-thread.html).

This is a really unfortunate flaw in an otherwise great machine. I am hoping things "loosen up" a bit over time ... otherwise I will be relying on spell check an awful lot.

So I am assuming you mean the drive that is upside down in the picture? That is what I had configured originally, but it still runs in SATA 2 speeds. I have tried both SATA ports and I have installed Windows on both SATA ports with the SSD being in the only drive connected to the system. Still SATA 2 speeds, I am near just sending the SSD back and sticking with the RAID 0 configuration it was shipped with, I have logged atleast 20 hours in the last two days trying to get this resolved.

Is there anyone using the GT60 with a SSD achieving the SATA 3 speeds? If so can you please take a picture of the installed location, the BIOS pages regarding SATA information, the Intel RST report for the SSD, and any information that will show which "port" the SSD is plugged into?

I cannot get this drive to report that it is plugged into PORT 0, if I plug it in where WhatsThePoint suggested it reports in BIOS and Windows as being in P4, if I plug it in the other HDD it reports it being plugged into P1, the ODD is always shown as plugged into P2.

When I run a report in Windows with PC Wizard 2012 under drive controller it reports as follows (the drives are currently placed how WhatsThePoint suggested.

Port #0: No Device - [HotPlug No]
Port #1: ATA Device detected - (Generation 2) - [HotPlug No]
Port #2: ATAPI Device detected - (Generation 1) - [HotPlug No]
Port #3: No Device - [HotPlug No]
Port #4: ATA Device detected - (Generation 2) - [HotPlug No]
Port #5: No Device - [HotPlug No]

I have never been able to get any device to show in Port 0 or 5, although I am assuming one of them is the eSATA port which I will verify this afternoon.

I'm starting to realize that's what it's made for...

Yeah, that's pretty much the only flaw I've noticed so far. I normally type around 110 WPM and I think this keyboard is going to inhibit my ability to do that...

At the end of the day, I guess it makes sense that a gaming keyboard would be more oriented toward "c'mon RPG, fire! FIRE!" usage as opposed to touch typing ... but I'm still disappointed.

    Hey guys,

I looked back over the last few pages but couldn't see anything about drivers.

How do you guys keep your GT60's GTX 670m updated? The Nvidia site doesn't have any drivers listed for the 600m series.

    Thanks!

I'm thinking that there will be new Windows drivers soon on geforce.com for the GTX680M,GTX675M,GTX670M,GTX660M,GT650M and the rest of 600M series.

For the 1st time these GPUs are appearing in the dropdown menu but as of this time the search produces a "no driver is available" message.

    Drivers - GeForce

Some new drivers have just been released for Windows 8,v302.80,but not for 600M series.

I am using a SSD in my GT60 at SATA 3 speeds. The drive in Port 1 is able to obtain the 6Gb/s speeds. I am having a similar issue though with one SSD being detected at 3Gb/s and one at 6Gb/s while the drives are in RAID0.

Which SSD are you using ?

I know for a fact Port 3 is the eSATA port. I'm unaware of a Port 0 and Port 5, BIOS only shows 4 available ports.

    Why no P0 showing?

I don't have the model but here's my "guess".

It may have something to do with the mSATA RAID0 option in GT60 and GT70 models called Super Raid.

The motherboard needs to assign 2 SATA III ports for the 2 U100 mSATA SSDs to do SATA III raid0 Super Raid in the same bay.

The P0 may only show up in Super Raid models when there are 2 mSATA SSDs using the 2 SATA III connections allowed by the chipset.

Non Super Raid models my have the same motherboard as Super Raid models and have SATA III only from the bay where the drive bottom faces up(where the Super Raid adapter would be).

Without Super Raid the GT 60 and GT70 may only be able to use 1 SATA III SSD in that one bay.If this is true the other internal bay can only be SATA II.

Again this is only a guess.

Maybe, one of the resellers can confirm or disprove the non Super Raid GT60 and GT70 only being able to have one SSD running at SATA III speed.

Clevo Taiwan has a new NVIDIA Verde driver for their models with GTX680M,GTX675M and GTX670M v302.71 so ....MSI should have one soon also?

It's dated 2012/6/15 and on their VGA downloads

    FXAA, Adaptive vsync, Dx11.1 added

I did notice that. Every now and then i do get missed keystrokes. Another issue am getting is the cursor. Sometimes, it jumps from one area to another in the text field. Turning off the touchpad did solve the issue unfortunately . Also, i hear sharp non distinct ticking sound below the touchpad. Initially, i thought it was the game disk inside the optical drive but when i removed the disk the ticking sound still persist. It happens once in a while when you not expect it specially when there's no disk reading or writing necessary. Not sure about this particular machine yet. I still have to test it further. I may have to return this one for a replacement.

I actually never really thought of that, but it makes sense for a gaming keyboard to be designed so that at least the WASD keys have to be able to withstand a 5-pound sledge hammer...

Does anyone have a problem with their keyboard backlights not coming on after you open the laptop from sleep? I have to restart it to get them to come back on. I downloaded and installed the firmware for the keyboard on the msi site. Any help would be great.

There's also a Beta driver (304.48) on Nvidia's driver page for the 670M which is dated for today. Anyone tried that yet?

The NVIDIA 304.48 beta fails at install for GT60 (& GT70)
If you have a GTX 670m once you try and install the drivers, you can do the following to get them to install:

Go to the folder the drivers were extracted to (by default that is
    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\304.48\Win8_64\International\Display.Driver

There are multiple .INF files; open NVMI.INF

Add three lines in the appropriate sections to make it work on the MSI GT60/70

    [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1213.10CB.1462% = Section028, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1213&SUBSYS_10CB1462

    [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.2]
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1213.10CB.1462% = Section029, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1213&SUBSYS_10CB1462

    [Strings]
    NVIDIA_DEV.1213.10CB.1462 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M"

    *EDIT* (update)
Optimus appears to be working; I have my preferred GPU set as integrated graphics and the LED generally remains white unless I'm playing a game.

Honestly the best method I've found for this (hundreds of laptops) its to peel the stick the best you can, then use that stick to constantly stick on and off on top off the residue the sticker may have left behind. If a sticker is too stubborn I use Goo Gone with a microfiber cloth.

    I am using a Crucial M4 128GB SSD SATA3

Just a heads up installed these drivers and I am getting horrible FPS in games... Specifically Diablo 3... Rolling back to the factory shipped drivers to see if there is an improvement.

When I install new versions of NVIDIA's Verde drivers I choose Custom installation.

In the Custom installation I uncheck the boxes for the parts I don't want, usually nvidia Update and audio, and then check the box at the bottom to clean install the driver by uninstalling the old driver.

By not getting rid of all of the old driver when installing a new driver can cause all sorts of issues.

Concur, with DIII specifically. I tried first keeping old settings, then a clean install. Both times the FPS showed only 0 - obviously not working, but more importantly I got some odd stuttering while just running around town.

I too am rolling back to see if it reverts to the previously very good gameplay. I originally wanted to try some of the new anti-aliasing the new drivers promised but not worth it at this point.

Probably having the same issues plaguing the 780 series. If you don't hit the key dead center, then sometimes the key won't register. Hitting the corner of the key doesn't register. Try gently lifting up on the key and that solves the problem, but only temporarily.

The 0 FPS is a bug introduced with Diablo III patch 1.0.3. It has nothing to do with the new nVidia beta driver. I tried with 16x AF, 4x MSAA and quality AO. It has quite an impact on performance. Sewers Act 2 is known for FPS drops in Diablo III. The FPS takes a hit (can't tell how much due to FPS display bug) but I'm amazed it's still playable with these settings. The crispy textures and lighting look awesome.

The micro stuttering is still there but it has improved with the latest Diablo III patch. At least it has for me. Still annoying but not as much as before. :)

I'm running Diablo III on the MSI GT70 ONC-027NL with the nVidia GeForce GTX 670M GPU.

If you have any need to do a lot of typing, then I would honestly stay away from the GT60/70 until you hear conclusively that MSI/steelseries has started shipping units with better (more responsive) keyboards.

I just got my Gt60 just over a month ago from Newegg. Out of nowhere the RAM started taking memory dumps and going to bluescreen. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic and it failed 10% into the first pass. It told me to contact the Manufacturer.

I called MSI and they told me I could send them the RAM and they would send me a new set. The brand name of RAM in my gt60 is Elixir. I decided I wasn't going to spend the money to ship them this crap RAM, Newegg doesn't even sell this brand, to get the same brand.

I bought some GSkill RAM and am waiting to receive it.

My problem is I found the first stick of RAM in the laptop but I have no idea where the other 2 sticks are. I watched this video MSI Notebook GT70 --- Disassembling - YouTube

In that video there are two sticks of RAM where I have 1 stick. I have no idea where the other 2 sticks are in the GT60 0NC.

    Anyone know where they are?

Oh is it that bad? I wont have a chance to change it so these defects are very important to me. It looks i will buy sammy one. Any reasons to buy msi? Or not to buy sammy one?

It depends on your external hdd some have better read/write while the others have worser read/write. Nothing can fully use usb 3.0

I'm a little disappointed that MSI chose to put an eSATA port on these laptops but it's not eSATAP. No power means I can't use my 2.5" external eSATA drive ... and eSATA is the cat's meow for externally-connected drive performance.
