May I know what are the standard drivers and utilities I need to download and install once I reformatted my widows..

For example, the factory image contains battery calibration, cinema pro and etc.. But on GT60 driver/utilizes do not have it. Is there anywhere I can find the "complete" drivers & utilizes for it?

    Thanks

Hi guys - I'm looking at making the switch from Alienware to MSI and I was curious what the difference is between these two GT70 model #'s...

    GT70 0ND-204US
    GT70-214US

I see both on New Egg but I can't spot a difference in the specs for the life of me. The only thing is is that I can't find the 214 actually listed on MSI's website..

The 214 has 16 GB memory instead of the 12 GB the 202 has. The 214 also has 2x 64 gb SSDs in a raid configuration in addition to a 750gb hard disk while the 202 just has the 750 gb hard disk. The 214 also has a blu-ray burner instead of the dvd burner the 202 has.

Same chassis, screen, cpu, video and (crappy) lan.

Thanks Lokust, but if you check the link, I'm actually talking bout the 214 and the 204, not 202. Both models seem identical, but I just want to make sure I am getting the best of the two. The weird thing is is that I cannot even find the 214 on MSIs website.

I signed up just to post this

Previously I replaced my 3 year old sony vaio f series with a se series which was just broken out of the box, then took on and off 2 months to fix because of missing they forgot to install (backlit) and it was over heating or they forgot ac adapter in box etc etc etc.....anyway don't buy sony - spent $60 over my 200 minutes a month to talk to them. UGH and no compensation for time lost or anything either dam corporations.....worst horry story eva!

So I decided after wasting so much time with a ty Sony I was going to go to the premium class of laptops and bought a GT 60 for 1500 + tax. Bought it from Canada Computers in store and unfortunately have noticed - 17 days after I bought it - that the keyboard is actually an issue. Up until recently I haven't really used it to write anything of length and now that I have GOD DAM IT. I mention the 17 days because that's 3 days over the return, which is GG for me. But they offered me a store credit minus a 15% restocking fee.

So where I expected the best of the best ( especially the keyboard which they hyped up) is now one of those things that I can't stand. So frustrated right now with laptops that I am quitting technology, but I was wondering anyone in the Toronto area know how long it takes to send/fix and get back a laptop from msi? Or is it anyway possible to get a refund from Canada Computers, they sound like ing lawyers on the phone over the 3 days and the insult of a offer for store credit minus 15% is insulting.....

how much money do people need to spend to get a laptop that is everything it is advertized to be?

Hi, there. I'm thinking of buying a gt60 ( Spanish version, from here) and I am dual linux/windows user.
Has anyone tested performance of the gt60 under linux?
    and windows 8?
Any issue, anything I should care of before I buy it?

    Hi
I just received my GT60 last week and I did some tests and benchmarks on it.

I found the temperature on idle 48~55c and on load with prime95 reaches 93c in 5 minutes. Room temperature around 30c.
    I this normal for 3610QM?

93C is a bit too high for the CPU, make sure while using the laptop you are not blocking the air vents below it.

Wait, what is wrong with the KB exactly?

EDIT: Nevermind, I assume it's the keys not registering. Should I spec my MSI to include the XOTIC brand keyboard upgrade?

GT60 owner here. Also bought from Canada Computers but I exchanged my first unit within the 15 days. My current unit is better than the first, but still not great.
FWIW, the MSI service depot is located in Markham, so depending where you live you can possibly avoid the expense, hassle, and uncertainty of shipping the laptop away for repairs. I was told (by MSI support) it's 5-days turnaround for RMA repairs. I am considering bringing my laptop in to the depot and having them swap out the keyboard ... which would hopefully be quicker than 5 days, but unfortunately, I was explicitly told they don't offer expedited service for drop-offs or simple swaps.

I'm also in Toronto and was going to go through Canada Computers down at Spadina & College, but they don't seem to have the model I want in stock, and you can't customize. :( I think I'm going to just go through Xotic PC and add in their own keyboard. I haven't heard of any issues with it, yet..

Wipe your current HDD with killdisk, and then just boot your windows iso. Set that to install onto your ssd.

Get your drivers here: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0NC.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7 32

And then you can get the s-bar 2.0 utility (important), the keyboard led utility, and the vga oc utility. I think you need the oc utility for turbo boost to function properly.

An even faster method would for a clean installation is to install your Windows 7 OS disk into the drive after you have installed your SSD, during the Windows installation, after you select the Custom (advanced) install, it should ask you to select a drive to install your OS onto. Down at the bottom right corner, you should see the "advanced options", select that.

Once you select "advanced options", you should see the Delete and Format options. Select each of your partitions on the system and click the Delete option. If you have deleted all partitions you should be left with a Disk 0: Unallocated Partition, and Disk 1: Unallocated Partition. Select your SSD, which should be easy enough to tell by size (ie; 128GB is only going to show around 119GB, and 256GB should be around 240). After you select your SSD, click Next and it should begin the Windows installation.

Also, I heard people say that the sticker can be removed and the warranty would not be void. Is that confirmed????

Any of the resellers can tell me what exatly is the model number of the hard drive caddy used. There are a lot of MSI ones on ebay.

I am really thinking about getting a GT60 as a desktop replacement to take to college. The M11x I've used for the last couple years meant I had to take my desktop with me wherever I wanted to do serious gaming. It also had a host of annoyances that finally made me want to get a replacement this year (Glossy screen, very low max brightness, etc.)

Compared to the Asus G55 or the Lenovo Y580 (Both with i7 3610QM, GT660M), do you guys think the G60 is worth the extra 250 dollars or so? The Steelseries keyboard is the main selling point for me as I've been able to play with a G70 at my local Fry's and it blows every other non full sized mechanical keyboard out of the water.

(Btw the G60 does have the EXACT same keys and mechanisms as the G70 right? I've only sampled a G70).

Also is the size small enough to lug around if need be in a medium-large sized laptop backpack in the laptop pouch?

I was looking at a similar decision: new laptop to use during an MBA program, and for occasional business travel and consulting. I ultimately chose the GT60 for the:
    • 1080p screen
    • phenomenal battery life
    • Ability to throw CPU/GPU intensive tasks at it if necessary
    • Steelseries keyboard

At this point, I'd say this laptop has 3 shortcomings:
    • While it will fit in any standard 16" laptop bag, this is a heavy, beefy laptop
    • eSATA port is unpowered
    • Steelseries keyboard

Yes, the steelseries board is on both lists. While the keys certainly do feel nice on a 30-second test drive at the store, and the backlighting is all cool, it's simply unsuitable for any amount of touch typing. Way, way too many missed keystrokes.

We can conclude that gaming keyboards != typing keyboards.
This not only happens in MSI, but sager as well.

My Alienware m15x's keyboard seems fine for both gaming and typing. (Although the arrow key did pop out once and had to be replaced.) I really don't want to get another Alienware though.

Yes opening it will not void the warranty.

Any user damages will void it though.

Like xMAR99 said, it will not void the warranty. Only if you opened it and damage the laptop it will void the warranty.

Yes, you can access the 2 HDDs, CPU, GPU, 2 RAM slots by removing the back panel.

You can access the two other RAM slots and WiFi be removing the keyboard & touch panel respectively.

So has anyone had an experience with the XoticPC keyboard that they offer as a replacement on this laptop? I'm putting in my order this weekend but this keyboard issue is throwing a wrench into things. I can't find any info anywhere about Xotic's internal keyboard.

I just want to confirm if anyone is interested in it. That 4GB of G Skill F3-12800CL11S-4GBSQ works perfectly in my GT 70. It has the same timings and voltage as reported bu CPU-Z on thr Elixir that is stock in my system. I think I paid $20.99 or something like that from newegg

I've got a quick question guys. I've got the MSI GT60 and I see new Nvidia beta drivers on the Nvidia website for the 670M.
Is it ok to download and install the drivers from the nvidia website, does installing those drivers cause any issue with the optimus switching feature?

I just restarted my gt60 and windows updated about 13 things. When it booted back up, the turbo button was disabled and no game will run even close to playable. Has anyone encountered this recently or have any idea why this could've happened?

Use system restore to go back to the point before the updates.

Then turn off automatic updates and select to notify when updates are available.

You can then download and install one update at a time to find any problem update for your system.

When Windows updates it creates a restore point unless you have the feature turned off to save space or use an imaging software.

Hmmmm...I noticed a bunch of updates being done on my desktop last night and I was going to do the same for the laptop this afternoon. I'll watch out for this and see if Microsoft follows its past behavior in totally screwing up people's computers with their updates.
