Does removing the back panel void the warranty? If it does, does that mean you cant upgrade it after purchasing?
-
As it's been said plenty of times throughout this thread, removing the back panel to upgrade doesn't void your warranty. Breaking it while the back panel is off does.
Oh and before I forget, a new driver is on MSi's driver page for Bigfoot LAN (Vers. 6.1.0.367 and dated 13th July) http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT60-0NC.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064 -
Is it possible to replace the LED keyboard on the GT70 and still have it be LED? Would you have to contact steelseries or would any computer store be able to replace it.
-
hi guys .. i received my msi gt60 yesterday the keyboard is very responsive
the space bar works very well .. no problems at all
the only problem i have discovered is : there is something in the webcam i cant remove !!!!!
sorry for my english -
I'm certain the keyboard can be replaced; you should contact the company from where you purchased it. -
Might be some internal dust inside the lens itself, try cleaning it from the outside first and see if it removes it
-
yes, it is internal dust .. unfortunately cleaning from outside did not help
thanks. -
Does anyone have troubles with the Nvidia Optimus? I play a game called sauerbraten and I get 420 fps with the Intel 4000 graphics and I only get a max of 320 with the Nvidia GTX 670m
-
There is a protective film over the camera, make sure you remove that.
-
I think it's because this game is using openGL and the nvidia are not so good in this area, try another games that using openGL (usually on Linux) and see what happens.

Thinking of upgrading the wi-fi card on my GT70 to Intel Ultimate N6300 so I can access my router's 5Ghz channel for streaming video. Good idea? Is there a better wi-fi card to choose? Easy to do without causing damage to the touch panel?
Cheers. -
You are kidding, right? The human eye can't really detect higher speeds than 60fps. I think you are well above that either way. It's not affecting gameplay in the least. Nevertheless, there may be some throttling being done by the card to save power.
-
Will this have 680m or 7970m till the end of this month?
-
GT60 and GT70have Pre-orders available with the GTX 680M on Xoticpc and GenTechPC

Upgrading from one 2 antenna wireless card to another 2 antenna card is not difficult.Use plastic tools to lift the Touch Control Bar.I insert a thin plastic knife at the ends by the speakers between the bar and the case and gently lift up around the entire edge but taking care not to lift higher than an inch so I don't disconnect the ribbon cable in the middle that connects the Control Bar to the motherboard.
If the ribbon cable comes off it's easily reattached.
Going from the stock Intel card to another Intel card doesn't require a driver change.
If you're going from Intel to Killer then the card and Intel driver should be uninstalled first.
Remove the ac power and battery before starting the wireless card swap.

I recently ordered a GT600NC-004US model w/ the gtx 670m from newegg and my intention is to hook it up to a larger external display for gaming. I would like to know, what is the max resolution that the HDMI on the GT60 capable of handling? Will I be able to hook it up with a 2560x1440 monitor and take advantage of that resolution? The monitor that I ordered is this one from Microcenter: Micro Center - AURIA EQ276W 27" LED Monitor 207597
I'm looking forward to playing GW2 on my new laptop
-
Wow! AMAZING!! but i cant buy it online :/ so can i find gt 60/70 in any store on usa or canada till the end of this month?
-
Thanks WhatsThePoint! Ordered the card.
Loving the GT70 so far, never had such a hi-spec laptop before. -
The maximum resolution the GTX 670M supports digitally (HDMI only in this case) is 2560x1600 which should be adequate for your monitor, you need to buy a HDMI to DVI cable to use it though. If using the VGA output, the maximum resolution supported by the GTX 670M is 2048x1536 which is less than the monitor's resolution that you ordered.
Would like to do the same thing one once the 680M is out and starts getting a bit cheaper towards the year end...
-
Just a quick other question on this - does the GT70 have a 3rd antenna available? (I hope so because I've ordered the 6300 and it appears to have 3 antenna connections).
Cheers. -
That's good to hear, thanks! Can't wait to see how it looks on the monitor.
-
It has two antennas from the factory, the 3rd antenna is a mod option.
-

Has anyone had any problems with their keyboard? I bought a gt60 back in april. Everthing with the laptop has been great except for the "W" key. It works fine typeing but in a game and trying to go forward it will stop working and I will have to repress. I also noticed that if I have just used the keyboard and stop using it for a minute it will make this crackling sound. It has freaked me out a couple times. Regardless, if it was any other key I would have had no problem but it is pretty much my main gaming key. I RMA'ed through msi and sent it off tuesday. Had anyone had any experience with MSI laptop rma service?
-
Numerous people (myself included) have had problems with these keyboards.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/667741-gt60-gt70-bad-keyboards-thread.html -
What has been done to fix it? I couldnt send it back to the vendor, gentech since it has been over 30 days. So I just rma'ed it. Is that what you did?
-
Is it true that the user cannot get into the BIOS to change settings?
-
I haven't really had too many issues with the keyboard, beside a few missed keys here and there. Though, I believe that crackling sound you're hearing is the hard drive spinning down. Does it sound like a windows "click"?! Or almost the sound of a pop up? If so, that is normal. A lot of newer hdds are designed to automatically "sleep" when there is inactivity. It freaked me out at first too, but I have seen this on different laptops. It is actually called 'hdd parking'. Just Google "hard drive parking noise", and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The keyboard is just designed this way. It is not "touch-friendly". A lot of times you'll need to actually press firm, or directly in a certain spot, to register the keys sometimes. Especially with the darn space bar! But I believe your issue with the W key is different. It sounds like your keyboard was actually defective. But keep in mind, this keyboard is not perfect! Lol.
And you ask what people are doing to resolve these issues... well, most have rma'd like yourself, and some have even purchased a replacement to install themselves, like from rkcomputers. But as far as msi goes, I don't think they're really changing anything? Some people just received bad boards.

Thanks for the suggestions but I am pretty sure it is coming from the keyboard. I only have 2 ssds in in my laptop. My wife agreed also it was coming from the keyboard. It sounds like the plastic is resituation itself or something.
Anyway. has anyone done a rma with msi yet for their laptop? I am wondering how long it will take. It should get there tuesday 7/24/2012. I am guessing they have had a lot of complaints because I was issued a rma # extremely quick no questions asked.
later! -
Does anyone know which Firmware I should download? My laptop originally came with 2 500gb HDs in raid 0, but i removed one of them to install an SSD. Should I get the Firmware for RAID or the NON-RAID one?
-
I'm assuming you mean BIOS? Well, the non-raid will completely lack any raid functionality in the BIOS and I think it won't have the Intel management utility as well. Even if you're running a non-raid configuration, just flash the raid one. It doesn't actually put your system back into a raid configuration.

Hey guys. I just received my GT60 yesterday and i have been loving it. The keyboard can get a little "buggy" but i just have to get used to it, and i still love it no matter what. But i have one problem. The touch buttons..... The ones that work are all except the dim display and eject disc drive. They both dont work. I can click on them and they light up, but it just doesnt do anything. Also a big problem with ALL of them. Is that no icon appears on the screen when i use any of the touch buttons. So the problem is I dont know whats on and whats off. IT also does it with all of the Fn keys and volume. No indicator icon pops up. Now i easily could be wrong here but im almost 95% sure there is an icon for all of these buttons. Is there a driver or software im missing? Thanks.
-
The touch buttons interact with the s-bar software. If the software is not running, you will not see the icons on the screen. Reinstall or download the software from msi's page.

Install S-Bar from the product page on MSI.

If your SSD is up and running in AHCI mode and you flash to a new RAID bios the bios will be set to RAID after the flash so the 1st thing you should do after the successful flash using a RAID bios is reset the bios back to AHCI.
Also check other bios setting after a flash.Check your time and boot order.
I use the MSI tool for all my bios flashing.

anyone having troubles playing witcher 2?? I don't think it detects my gpu, I have enable it to use the 670m in the nvidia control panel
-
Worked fine for me. Actually the only game that hasn't was Binary Domain but that's a problem for all laptops apparently.
-
what settings do you play on?
-
1080p
Quality - High
DirectX - DX11
AA - AAA
Texture Filtering - AF 16X
At those settings I get 40fps.
Or I can have it set to 1600x900 on Very High and get 60fps.
What settings are people using in the Nvidia control panel to get the most out of gaming? I'm very new to PC gaming (I was a PS3/360 only game player before getting the GT60) so really want to get the best out of this. I've been extremely impressed with this so far, haven't touched console games since getting it (Did try Battlefield 3 but after trying it on the GT60 the 360 version looked very bad in comparison, which is crazy as I used to think it looked great on the 360 - Spoiled by PC gaming)
Have gone a little crazy in the Steam sale, think I have enough games to last me till the next Steam Summer Sale...
I apologize, I have no idea how or why but I got Witcher 2 mixed up with Metro 2033. I have played Witcher 2 but I'll need to get round to installing it again to see how I had it set. Sorry about that
