Just got my GT70 from Ken at GentechPC and I have a few questions.

    1. I cannot get 2 Vertex 4 SSD to work in raid 0. Windows 7 installs fine, but will not boot. If I boot into recovery I can see the files on the raid 0 disk, but get a disk read error when booting.

    2. I can only get an SSD to boot on port 4, which from what I have read is a Sata 2 port. I cannot get a single SSD to boot from Port 1 which I think is the Sata 3 port.

I also have a bad keyboard. The space bar only works if I hit it directly in the center. I had a GT780DXR that is now my wife's and the keyboard on that one was great. Ken has me set up for an RMA, so hopefully the new keyboard will be better.

Ken has been a great help and his mods are flawless. I got the Blue MSI logo and the Bigfoot 1103 upgrade.

It is hard to type with this space bar! :)

Was the notebook shipped with 2 hard drives in raid0?

If so,was the raid array broken by going into the raid utility and deselecting the drives as non members and making them non raid disks before removing them.

Was the bios cleared and reset by removing the red and black wire connector for a few minutes located in the bottom of the notebook by the fan with the battery and power cord removed?

In the GT70/GT60/16F3/1762 only one of the V4 SSDs will perform at SATA III speed.

The other internal SATA bay is SATA II so SSD raid0 will be SATA II.

After the bios is set to raid and then booting the computer pressing Ctrl + I enters the raid utility where the member disks are added, type of RAID and block size selected.

The only hope for full SATA 3 raid in a GT70/GT60 is with an MSI Super Raid adapter and SATA III mSATA SSDs but currently MSI doesn't offer the adapter separately.

The primary drive bay is wired to get both SATA III devices that the HM77 chipset allows.

I pretty much gave up on the GX60.... Might go with GT60, I do have a question tho, is there a way to put SuperRaid on it? I know it's not officially supported yet, but does anyone know how to tho?

Edit: Correction, SuperRaid IS supported on the GT60 0NC model, according on MSI website, although it is an optional, but I don't see it offer any where from resellers, can I get an confirmation on why isn't reseller offering it?

It is standard in South Korea(?) as WhatsThePoint stated before.
So is comes down to the market; it is not offered yet. It may or may not come.

Yes, I have tried everything. Updated the SSD's to latest firmware. What is weird is Windows installs fine. Sees the 2 drives as one during install. I can boot into recovery after the install and see the Windows files installed fine. The system just will not boot. Oh well. To be honest I am a little underwhelmed at this point. I will have my new keyboard on Monday so hopefully I will be more excited then.

Hey guys, i have a few quick questions. First of all, is anyone else experiencing keys that have a slightly green tint to them when in the white setting for backlighting? (right alt, right ctrl, right arrow) and also is the webcam supposed to show alot of motion blur? when i'm skyping, my camera is always slow and makes me look like im applying a motion blur filter.

I have a question regarding temperture,
    I bought a GT60, 12gb, GTX670m
Now when browsing, Gpu temp is usually between 45-58, based on Afterburner.
And when gaming, play The Secret World, with turbo on, and fan on, temp is 80-85c, running on high settings, with directx 11. FPS usually at 16-25.. is that normal?
or do I need to adjust some settings? Thanks

I know there are a lot of questions with only few to answer, but heres mine lol...

    Got my GT70, freaking rocks.

Anyways whats with the Euro symbol on the #5 key? And how would I use it? I'm an Econ student, so who knows maybe I'll just write more papers on Int'l topics cause I can get that euro logo so easy...

Jokes aside, this should be easy to answer. :)

I think you hold the AltGr key and press 5 to get the Euro symbol. Either that or hold Fn, not 100% sure which it is.

    hi.
am using msi gt60 which has 3gb gtx670m graphic card.

i played max payne 3 on full settings and it run fine. infact I finished the game in 3 days. resource usage was around 950 mb out of total 3 gb and it ran smooth like silk.

now my problem starts with GTA 4 and Episodes from liberty city. I have installed both these games and when I try to update the graphic settings in the game it shows resource usage as 202/3026 MB and next to it is a warning " your graphic settings are near , or exceed the suggested resource limits for your system. it is recommended that you reduce your graphic settings in order to run the game optimally". so my graphics are stuck at lowest resolution and all the other settings are also at lowest.

    currently using 295.62 graphic driver

    someone please help me out

With mine I get 45-50c when not gaming and when gaming it usually goes to 71c at highest while using turbo fan button.

GTA uses your integrated card and not your 670m and if anyone can find a fix for this I'd be really grateful :D In the meantime try adding this to your launch options in Steam for GTA 4/EFLC by right clicking on GTA in your library list and clicking on properties>set launch options.

    -nomemrestrict -norestrictions

That should allow you to at least play with higher settings and resolution (GTA actually plays fine on highest settings using your integrated card)

Is the GT70 gonna have the AMD HD7970m on it? It's much faster and cheaper than the GTX675m, right? So why not put it in the GT70. Is there any clue that MSI's gonna use 7970m on gt70 or the MOBO is for Nvidia only??

It is running with the integrated card, just do a benchmark test in the setting's and you'll see. Don't forget to add those launch options if your using the Steam versions of GTA4/EFLC.

hey guys, i just wanted to give an update on my keyboard issue. I sent off through rma. and the whole process was done very quickly. They received on a tuesday and shipped it out the next day, wensday. They whole process took a little over a week.

BTW this new keyboard that they installed feels a lot different. It is very sturdy compared to the one that came with the laptop. I am also not experiencing the issue with the W key anymore.

MSI RMA and repair was extremely fast!!!

    Hi everyone.

One of the keys came off, any idea as to where I can get a replacement, or barring that some sort of spec for the key that I can give the retailer aside from the model?

I live abroad so I really don't want to send the entire unit in just because of one key... preferably I'd buy it online or something. I was unable to find a single retailer that specifically sold keys for the gt70 but I imagine that other models use the same kind of keys.

Thanks for in advance for pointing me in the right direction.

    What Anti-Virus are you using?

When I first got mine I was using Avast and had the same problem (Also started happening on my old laptop) switched to Microsoft Security Essentials (Which is free as long as your copy of Windows is legit) and problem solved!

Has anyone looked into Windows 8 on the GT60, how quickly does MSI update its software, or is most of it working already? Most of us will be able to do the 15 dollar upgrade thing.

Install Intel Chipset driver first and then Intel HD Graphics before install the nVidia driver, the rest of the drivers doesn't matter which one first.

    Ok i am looking to update my MSI GT60 from the 500gb x 2 RAID 0 to a 128SSD and 500gd hd non-raid.

I am looking for a step by step as i don't want to mess this up, i would like to start with a fresh install on the 128gb ssd (Vertex 4) but also want to make sure i have the latest firmware (1.5) on the drive before i begin. Can i break the raid and insert the ssd (with no windows or format) to install the firmware or should i update after i do a clean install of windows?

I understand how to break the raid, how to update the ssd firmware as well as doing a clean install of windows 7 but just not 100% clear on by breaking the raid can i update the ssd still as i don't have a "spare" slot to update it.

Any help is appreciated, thank you

What are some favourite strategy/builder games that can utilize the power of the discrete 670 chip?

Having some issues with my MSI GT60's performance in gaming. Only getting around 35-40 fps (sometimes dipping into low 20s) in skyrim maxed out when most reviewer's and youtube vids are getting around 45-60 fps in skyrim. Any thoughts? I have my GTX 670M running in high performance mode so I can't seem to see what the problem is. Maybe a driver issue?

Hi, Im looking at getting a GT70 or GT60 0ne which has a 750gb drive and 2*64gb SSD for operating system (this is the current Australian model with the GTX 680m). I want to know is it possible to put a hard drive security password on the mSata SSD drives when they are in RAID 0? I know that on Lenovo laptops in RAID 0 they support hard drive password with their BIOS, but not sure if the MSI GT bios allows this.

I am not talking about a BIOS or startup password, specifically I am interested in a hard drive password, which can take advantage of encrypted SSD drives.

Can someone let me know please, this is a key purchasing decision for me?

As far as I know, those "contingency stickers" can be removed without voiding warranty. I would recommend using a hair dryer to heat up the glue so it comes off easier, that and you won't run a high risk of scratching that nice aluminum finish. :)

If any of the sticky residue remains, use some non-abrasive citrus cleaner like Scot's citrus clean remover and apply it to a rag and wipe your surface down.

If anyone has had luck in getting a OCZ Vertex 4 to run in port 1 and not port 4, please let me know! I have tried every different combo of installs and intel RST drivers and cannot get the drive to work from port 1. I get disk read errors, freezes, etc. It works flawlessly from port 4. This is on the Vertex 4 1.5 firmware. I would like to utilize the SATA III since i paid for a little more expensive drive.

    Dear all,

I am having some trouble using the "turbo" function on my GT60 0NC: When I turn it on it immediately turns back off. I believe the problem is that my BIOS is an older version: E16F3IMS.30C . I was having trouble finding the proper update to this, as the update E16F3IMS.30M on the MSI site doenst seem to work. I have windows 7 x64. How can I resolve this issue? Thanks very much!

I'm pretty sure that the button doesn't actually stay lit? Even when it is enabled. I'm not 100% though. However, make sure the msi VGA Oct utility is running. Or else Turbo mode doesn't work. The program icon is like a tire on fire, or something like that. I don't think the BIOS is affecting this, but you can still update them. Because you have x64, the BIOS program will not work. You have to create a boot able dos disk/USB drive and flash the BIOS file off of that. Msi includes a PDF tutorial on the bios download site that walks through the entire process.

Finally got a mostly working GT70 0NE. First one was DOA with nvidia not working and faulty screen, second one I'm using now works except it also has a 1 pixel size damage on the screen, but can't be bothered to exchange a second time.

What does the VGA Overlock Tool do? Running it does literally nothing. And its on autostart too.

Any new drivers out yet for BIOS on the GT70 0NE series?

    Thanks :)

    Bought through pccanada.

It does't have a dead pixel insurance, but I think its not a dead pixel as the dead pixel can be seen with the laptop off (a white dot on the otherwise black screen that you can't wipe away)

They do 7 day DOA though

I had a bunch of problems with the vertex 4 myself. I couldn't even get windows 7 to install properly on it. Decided to return it in the end. Picked up a Kingston model with similar specs and it was a breeze to setup and has been running flawlessly.

Bugger, only the integrated card is working (670m) may of had something to do with using a program called perfect uninstaller which has removed something from the registry. Will re-installing the 670m's Drivers fix this problem?
