Doubtful that you're seeing drivers issue as the machine works fine at first and then gradually has lower FPS. This sounds exactly like GPU throttling though due to temps. Have you used a temp monitor to keep an eye on those?

    GT70 2OC uses power boost.
Can you check the battery level when frame rate starts to drop?

The battery level at each time was around the 95-99% mark, I never had the chance to go on long periods of gaming with this,

as for temps, I'm not that sure about the subjects of temperatures in laptops but I can tell you that the laptop was warm and no heat was conducted onto the table which I situate my laptop on.

Its quite hectic to get BOTH laptops have the same issue, i returned both of them and i'm awkwardly going to get the 096US model instead......
i mean if the same thing happens maybe i'm just a bad person =((((

EDIT : I forgot to mention, FPS doesn't gradually drop, one hour it was fine then the next its highly underperforming

For temperature you can use software like HWmonitor to see what could be causing the issues, as well as MSI afterburner and GPUz to monitor usage%.

You are not a bad person :) right now we need to identify what is causing the fps drop to ensure you get smooth performance :D

Yeah, still sounds like Temp Issues to me. Once a temp level is hit the GPU will throttle itself delivering less FPS. There isn't a time on the GPU telling it to do so after an hour, so something has to be triggering the stepdowns.

Try to run Prime95 and Furmark at the same time, and monitor the fps.
2nd run just do Furmark alone, and monitor the fps.

I just bought an MSI GT70 2OC059US and I installed a SSD into the open sata slot. What do I need to do next? Do I need to transfer the OS (windows8) to the SSD from the HDD? How would I go about doing that? Is it just a matter of formatting the partitions? The computer is recognizing the drive as drive D. However, the computer shows that nothing is on the SSD currently and I am not sure when, if ever, it will be used. Please help. Thanks

Create the Recovery DVDs first, then change out the drive and then use the Recovery DVDs to restore the OS onto it.

    Dear All,

I bought the MSI GT70-75287B in May and I love the little beast. I mainly use it for photo and video editing and it works very nicely. Just a question though. It came with 8GB RAM (2x4GB, DDR3 SDRAM) and I am thinking of adding another 8GB just to get it at 16GB as it would last very long with its current setup. What type of RAM is the best to invest? Any specific brand or rather buy 1x8GB or 2x4GB? I know the 8GB will be more expensive I am just thinking that in the future I will utilise all the 32GB, so I wouldn't want to have to remove a 4GB...

Anyway these are my thoughts. Waiting for yours. :)

    Thanks in advance.

You want to match the same speed, (1600mhz CL11 1.5V), 4GB sticks would keep all your ram in dual channel while an 8GB stick would give you 8GB of dual channel and 8GB of single channel memory.

    Hi everyone!
Tomorow I'll recieve my brand new MSI GT60 2OD with i7 4700MQ, GTX 780M, 2x4go Ram, 128G ssd. As a gift I'll also recieve a 1To HHD so i'll have to open the computer to install it.

With that in mind, I think I should take this oportunity to also add 2 more 4go RAM sticks and maybe a 2nd 128 Go SSD in RAID 0.

    So there are my questions:

Is it difficult or dangerous to do one of these things? I'm not a total newbie but not very comfortable when it comes to computer hardware.
Do I need to turn on the computer with the original config before doing any of those changes?
Is RAID 0 a good idea and if YES how to do that?

Thank you for reading, I hope someone can help me.

    Goodbye.

You can find the disassembly guide HERE which will walk you through the drive installation. As for the OS installation there are a ton of guides available that will walk you through, just a matter of finding one you like and understand. Windows install

Edit: Just realized that is the 16F3 manual linked. Should be largely identical for the 16F4 version which is what you have. I don't think the chassis actually changed much at all, couldn't find a 16F4 version in my search.

I am sorry for annoying you but I think i didn't explain well as I purchased the laptop with Windows 8 pre installed and when I do a recovery it only goes to the Drive C by default and the option is not available as arranged by MSI itself , so how to install this windows version which is on my HDD on the new SSD

You will need to download a copy of Windows that would then detect your product key hidden in Bios. You could also borrow an installation disk from a friend if available. If you have no means of getting that, don't want to order a recovery disk from MSI or your reseller, and still want to do that install, you can use a disk migration utility but the way the data is stored on HDD is different than SSD and could cause errors doing so resulting in blue screens.

The WEI can bounce around with different drivers, it does not mean anything as it has always given out strange readings with optimus.

Turbo has not been functioning with the latest drivers it seems, you can use nvidia inspector to create a shortcut to set the clocks if you like.

You can benchmark it with 3DMark11 with stock driver, and then repeat it with the new driver for comparison.
But the turbo button function will not work properly if you are no longer using the stock driver from MSI.
However, you can use MSI Afterburner to obtain the same or better performance with your GPU since turbo button gives you 5% of GPU OC.

After a trying the patience and general good will of Derek S @ xotic. I've finally settled on a computer, started with the gx60(got scared), msi1757 and was really worried about the warranty issue b/c I've never owned a whitebox computer. Now I'm the new owner of an order for the GT70 2OC-065US.

I'd like to just note about the great customer service and diligence that everyone @ xoticpc have, especially Derek S. My 1757 was on phase 4 of the process and was most likely getting ready to be boxed up, when I bugged them again to change to a completely different pc. Don't hesitate to order with these guys if you're on the fence.

Take out the battery if you don't plan on moving the laptop.

I use mine without the battery since i almost never move it more than a few feet. I also was wondering about the turbo button but im not too worried about it since I got my Gt70 for $400 off craigslist :)

Fellow GT notebook user, I have a question regarding BIOS.

Just bought a second-hand GT60 from a good friend of mine.
It came with a Win 7, but I'm planning to upgrade to Win 8 in a couple of days.
The thing is, in MSI website (here: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT60-0ND.html#/?div=BIOS&nbos=Win8 64 ) it has a few BIOS option.
Mine now has the "Win7" BIOS version. But if i want to upgrade to Win8, should I flash it with the "Win8" BIOS version?
There is a warning in the MSI web that says "- If the notebook you purchased has Win7 Bios installed, please DON'T attempt to update using Windows 8 bios (or vice versa). Failure to abide may result in bricking your system. "

Because AFAIK there would be no problem with BIOS version and OS. Or maybe I'm wrong here :)

Thanks in advance for any kind of help.
    Cheers,

    -Gustav
I use an Everki Beacon backpack. But a Deuter Giga (15 and 17) would fit GT60 and GT70 just fine :)

The bios was named as windows 7 or 8 as a machine with either of those OS as default has a totally different bios structure. Each can run the other OS but can't flash the others bios.

Thank you for simple but enlightening help, brother Meaker! :D
    Always appreciate your help.

So I'll stick with the "Win 7" BIOS.
Probably would flash with the unlocked .30 or .10 ones if I managed to find it :D

The HDD is failing, contact MSI to send the unit back for warranty service.

Do you lose warranty if you change out the hard drive? I want to install an SSD but I don't want to lose the warranty either. Also is there a guide to installing the SSD? Also is it possible to transfer the OS and everything to the SSD?

MSI discourages you from doing so, but as long as you don't break anything doing it, the upgrade won't affect the warranty on the original MSI parts. The new drive itself won't be covered of course, but otherwise not affected. For the install, it should be fairly straight forward. There is a service manual floating around for it but can't find the link off hand. I'll see if I can find it and edit it in later. It's not recommended to just transfer from a HDD to an SSD due to the way that the drive works, possibility to cause blue screens. Clean install is always best.

You will also want to keep any original hardware in case it needs to be sent in too.

    Hi all,

My GT60 has run into what I think may be a significant problem... recently I was playing a game when there was a sudden "bzzt!" and the machine just shut off... no BSOD, no shutdown sequence, just black screen. Shortly thereafter, I could smell burning, though I wasn't able to identify where it was coming from (from experience I'm pretty sure it was electrical burning, and not the casserole I had in the oven ;) ) Now the laptop will not turn on whatsoever.

I'm a little bit nervous about what I should and/or shouldn't do at this point. I'm praying that maybe there's some sort of circuit breaker or design feature that would sacrifice itself to save the rest of the components (especially the SSDs!). Based on the description I gave, would it be safe for me to pull the SSDs out and put them into another computer so that I can recover my data? Or should I leave everything as is for warranty service? To be honest, based on my [negative] experiences with RMA, I would much rather spend $200-300 to have it fixed at a local shop as opposed to spending weeks at warranty service, but having no idea what happened, I don't even know if this would be possible.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a MSI GT70-0ND. I had tried the WIndows 8 upgrade... hated it, so I took my PC back to a restore point BEFORE the upgrade (BTW... don't do this... learned from experience). This ended up causing BSoD on occassion because it tried to load some drivers as Windows 8 and some as 7. SO... I decided, ok... I will make the resto discs and restore the computer back to factory. When I put in the disc (1) it wanted to know if I only wanted to do the boot partition or the whole thing... I decided WOW>.. that is cool... So only boot partition. I did that... now I only have a C: and D: drive showing (hard drives) and no Q: (boot partition)... so in essence this did not really put the machine back in factory issued state. I started getting BSoD on occassion now because of an intel driver (RAID one) that did not get installed. I installed it and thought all was well... Now my "Turbo" button doesn't work. If I load all 3 discs... do a COMPLETE restore... does it actually take it back to factory? I want my beast of a machine back...!!! Please help...

    Your system is somewhat corrupted.
Can you make Recovery DVDs using MSI BurnRecovery shortcut on the desktop?
If yes, then use these media to restore the stock OS back.
If not, then try this procedures below provided by MSI.
After upgrading to Windows 8.1, why can't I press F3 to do recovery?

I have the 3 MSI BurnRecovery discs. Like I said... When I did the recovery using them it wanted to know if I only wanted to redo the boot partition... I was thinking that would be best, but now... like I said... the boot partition doesn't show up AND some of my function doesn't work either (Turbo... stuck at 2.3gHz... ewww). So... should I actually just redo the whole thing with all 3 discs? Would that get me a true system restore? Thanks.
