Hey guys, I believe my hard drive is fine but the SMART data is a little confusing. I'm not sure if there is another problem present or I just didn't configure something correctly. The CRC error count is off the charts and every so often I get hard drive related error messages. Of course, because I'm finally asking about it, that particular error seems to have disappeared from the event viewer.

The HDD is a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB. I put the other hard drive that came standard in the second bay.

    Hi,
I am really interested in GT60 (with GTX770 or 780), but I would like to ask some questions.
    1) Cooling - is it problem, or not?
    - I´ve read, that some people have problems with temperatures, but others writing, that even under load it is possible have around 80 Celsius.
    2) 770 vs 780 - which one?
    - the difference in my country is 500 dollars - do you think, that the 770 is (in long term) powerful enough or the 30% more powerful 780 is worth the money?
    - also is there some higher differences in temperatures between 770 and 780?
    3) Overall verdict
    - are you satisfied with your GT60? Have you some tips, pros/cons, anything?

    Thanks for answers :)

    1) Cooling is good, you can try some aftermarket paste job as well. My CPU temps were at times high, GPU never went above 81 C. Others can report lower temperatures. I'm on stock cooling.
    2) 500 $ is way too much of a difference. 780M is a beast, that's true, but the 770M can hold itself for some time. Just don't be afraid to play around with the settings in certain titles. 780M runs hotter than 770M, a few users talked about throttling (rare cases, rest assured). I had no throttling issues on my 770M.
    3) Yes, I am very satisfied with my GT70. What you should take care of is that the laptop is bulky, but that's not a con for me. It's still portable compared to a desktop and the power inside is remarkable. It probably has the best laptop speakers on the market, nice display, very good keyboard, many ports. The only problem I had was with some Windows 8 stuff, but that's software related.

That's all I can think of right now, if you want to know more, don't hesitate to ask! :)

Well you typically see a 60-70% advantage in the graphics performance of the 780M over the 770M so it's up to you to decide if that's worth the cash.

    Hi,
so I have received my new GT60 2OD, but I have some problems (fortunately just some software related).
    I am using Windows 8.1 64bit
    1) "Medium" touch button doesnt work. I have SCM and Sound Blaster Cinema, but the button seems doing nothing.
    2) Automatic brightness - I noticed, that the screen brightness changes when I have different color on the screen. When I am browsing white pages, the ligh goes up and when dark color, the light goes down (by some steps, about 3-5). It is quite annoying (also the fact, that it should be inverted - white pages darker and dark pages lighter :D ). It is possible disable it somewhere please?
( 3) ) Just minor one - Sound Blaster Cinema equalizer (and whole settings) doesnt provide best sound. Are there any tips how to improve sound quality, it is sotfware related, driver related or it is just feature? It dont need much, just a little tuning.

    Thanks for info

This is where I am confused. The barebone GT70's dont have this turbo button right? When gaming I usually just set the profile to game with the FN+eco button. Is that the same thing?

If you have barebone then your unit doesn't have turbo.
So just OC manually instead for best results.

    1. Medium button, are you talking about the square looking button?
    2. Go to BIOS by holding DEL key, and system information, find out the current BIOS & EC that you have. Updating to the newest versions and see if they help.
    3. As far as I know, the audio sounds better with it, if you turn it off then you may not really like the sound.
It's a software technology to make the audio sounds better, you can turn the volume up to the highest and see how much it can do.

ECO function allows you to switch between different power management profiles.
It may lower brightness, reduce processor speed, reduce power consumption or maximize battery life.

    1) The left touch button - looks like movie player. They called it "media button" in manual and it should improve sound and displey quality for watching movies. But I think, that it does nothing.
    2) Thanks, I will try it :)

Since addition of a SSD for my Win 7 x64 boot disk, I have lost the webcam function. How do I regain that for my GT70? I hear the USB on/off but nothing shows?

    Thanks

According to the MSi website, the driver uses the native driver bundled in operating system. There is no download available.

What's the one that comes with the GT70? I completely redid over my laptop, so I have only downloaded all of the files and drivers from the MSi site. I thought I got all of them on here but apparently not so.

Anyone with 331.93 beta getting longer startup times? Before login the power button keeps changing colors and the screen stays black for a prolonged time, so I guess it doesn't like Optimus much. During normal use the graphics switch works as usual.

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card from Nvidia GTX670M to GTX770M or GTX680M?

I just had a problem with my current 670M (busted - maybe because of too much dust accumulation) T_T

    I'm using MSI GT60-0NC with the i7-3610QM.

If it's possible, what do I have to know besides opening up my NB, and updating drivers... I'm seeing people doing something with the BIOS and stuff...

And lastly, is it very unwise to RAID0 configure 1HDD + 1SSD?

    Thank you!

MSI computers by default have the webcam turned off. I know you said you've enabled it via S-Bar but have you tried Fn + F6 to turn it on.

Is anybody having a problem with the keyboard not registering the key sometimes? This happens to me quite often and I have noticed it happens when I either push the key too softly or I don't hit the middle portion of the key. It only happens in the upper portion key like the qwerty area and the numbers. Also does anybody use headphones with the laptop? Is it just me or does it sound very different from the speakers.

When did you get your machine? Some earlier keyboards had issues and needed replacing, you could check the keyboard cable is seated correctly.

Around February of this year. I have the windows 8 key button on the keyboard. Also, I was going thinking of installing an SSD and the warranty/void sticker got a little ripped in the process but it is still there. Would that automatically void it?

They wont void your warranty for upgrading drive. Even though a sticker is there you are allowed to upgrade the Hard drive and RAM. Just be careful not to cause any damage as that will not be covered. If you remove the CPU/GPU or their heatsinks then your warranty is void.

I cant really answer the GPU upgrade question, but can your RAID question. You do not want to RAID a HDD and SSD because it will really slow down the SSD since it will be waiting for the HDD to keep up. RAID 0 will only be as fast as your slowest drive. You'll have much better speeds just running them independent.

What?? why is that so?? X80M have 100W TDP.... while the 670M only have 75W... the power spully will not be able to draw enough power for that card...

I, as a GT 70 0NC 048FR have considered the upgrade to a higher graphic card but the 770 will require another (really dfferent) heat sink due to the pcb form..

because it's still under guarantee, i still don't know if the card is standard MXM or not... and if my MXM support pcie 3.0 for that upgrade...

It's a vbios issue, the 780M wont work in older optimus machines but will work in older non optimus machines. The 780M wont work in older non optimus machines but does work in some older optimus machines. So they kind of each fill in where the other does not work.

The latest models with the 780M still use the 180W brick. With the .10p or .30p bios files you don't even need a modified driver to run the 780M it just works. You must flash that version before installing though as it will not work with earlier or later versions.

It's a standard MXM module and these issues are cross platform.

I happened to have the .10p bios. Will the gtx770m work in this bios version?
Or the only option I have is both 780m or 680m?
And I suppose any brand of the card (clevo, dell or msi) would do the job?

Sorry about the double post. Should've used the tapatalk when replying from mobile.

By the way, already found the answer from another thread by brother Meaker (as always)
The only option is 680m or 780m

Really need help! Pretty sure I messed up big time, and I don't know how to fix it.

I have a MSI GT60 laptop and stupidly decided to reset my my second hard drive to "Non-Raid Disk" and now I can't boot up my computer to windows. I get stuck on the screen where it states "Check cable connection! PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. Rebot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

I just wanna run a full system restore at this point, however I believe I deleted my recovery partition by wiping out my second hard drive to "Non-Raid Disk". Is there anyway to solve this situation?

    Meaker and WhatsThePoint may know.
I have not used one myself because the stock ones worked well for me.
I will focus on IC diamond as top choice of thermal paste, that's for sure.

I see. I have applied the Gelid Extreme thermal paste already. Temps so far are prettry decent topping around 82 on full load. I just want to take precautionary measures with the pads since it will be hotter in the summer here in my country. I may see rise in temps when gaming. Hopefully Meaker or WTP may provide addtional info. Thanks!
