Diamond and pads will get that down a bit further and give you some more breathing room (you have about 10C of it just now).

So what brand of .5mm pads shall I purchase? I'd like as much breathing room as possible since the place/room I play at is not air-conditioned as often as I would want it to be.

Also I would like to ask if there is a difference in performance if the SSD was installed in the vacant bay near the CPU. The technician went lazy and just added it versus my instructions to put the SSD in the bay near the subwoofer (original bay of the stock HDD) and put the stock HDD in the bay near the CPU chip. I I wish to swap them, would I simply swap the items and boot up or do I have to re-install Windows again into the SSD?

Oftentimes a swap will work, just need to reorganize the boot priority in the BIOS. I've had some instances of doing this and the boot manager was deadset on looking at a certain SATA connection being the boot drive though and in that case I had to do a reinstall. Might as well try, if it works then great, if not a reinstall isn't too much trouble.

I also have an GT60-0NC 002 US. If I were to upgrade to let's say 780m, what would I need to do besides physically switching the card? Are there any additions things needed?

Also, is there a guide to upgrading the GT60? I'm very fond of this laptop and I would like to keep this laptop longer if possible.

Thanks Derek! Now with the risk of reformat, is the performance difference negligible or will I see a significant performance increase in case I swap them? If negligible, then I'll let it be as is so that I don't have to go through the trouble of reformatting. Thanks for your swift response!

It's a definite improvement. Speed varies with the SSD you plan on using but it's a night and day difference between the two no matter what.

I already have a Corsaire Neutron installed on the second slot. Win7 is installed in the SSD. My only concern is that the SSD is on the second slot and not the Primary (beside sub woofer) where it will run 6gb/s transfer rate. Now if I place it onto the Primary slot, will I see a world of difference?

On a separate note, how will I know if the subs are working? When testing the in the Realtek Audio Manager program, I hear sounds in come out of the speakers except when its the turn of the subs to play a sound. Am i missing something? Is there a setting I need to turn on?

There is zero difference in performance between the primary and secondary, they're just the slot designations to help people have a solid understanding of which you're talking about.

The subs aren't super powerful and so it's not surprising that you don't hear anything noticeable. If you put your hand over the sub opening you should be able to feel some air/vibration when it activates.

The sub is there for the medium frequency range, no notebook has real bass since they can't use huge cones.

You will need to replace the AC adapter to 180W, and change heatsink that is compatible with 780m.

You must also be running a .10p or .30p system bios version.

Has anyone here upgraded GT70-20C to 780m from 770m ?

A friend wants me to add 780M (dell) to his GT70-20C. Just wondering what will I need to do so, in terms of thermal pads, different heatsink?, vbios?, driver.

Anyone know where I can find a stock LCD bezel for my GT60 0NC 004us? It got dropped last year, and the warranty repair people replaced the LCD bezel and back panel with that of a GT680, and didn't even fix the hole in the chasis. I can find the back panel on Ebay, but looking for the bezel, the only result is the GT680 bezel. It really wouldn't bother me, except the glossy finish looks like when it's dirty(always), there isn't a MSI logo on the panel, only a spot/hole for it, there's a pad missing from beside the webcam, and there aren't even any caps on the hinges.

You'll need 0.5mm thermal pads to replace the old ones. As for the heat sink placement it may fit but it's likely to be a little different. You could get a 780m to be sure.

Is upgrading GPU just a plug and play(of course downloading vga drivers is a must) process?
Do I have to change something with my bios or whatnot? or is it complicated?

Am I correct that just like desktop need to have PCI slots, laptops need MXM slots? just 3.0? I know my laptop have MXM 3.0

Is there any guide that I can use to refer to?

I'm using GT60-0NC with the Ivy bridge i7-3610QM
I was originally using 670M but then it got busted, so I thought why replace when I can upgrade. I was planning on using 680M or if possible 770M

So... Please if anyone can help that would be very much appreciated.
Much more appreciated if it is comprehensive.

    Thanks!

I've tried on their ebay store, but they have a picture of a GT680 bezel listed as a GT60 bezel, and refuse to acknowledge it, even after I sent them a picture comparing that bezel and their GT60 back panel.

Yes, it is plug and play.
Make sure the connection is tight and nice, and the heatsink is secured on top of it.
Once you power it up then you can just load driver, and get it going.

The 770m is not fully compatible. The 680m with an msi card would be plug and play with the right heatsink. The 780m can work with the .10p or .30p system bios.

I posted this in another forum... but I think it was the wrong GT70... Anywho... I keep getting an error with my USB ports. I have a Toshiba Caviar Connect drive (USB 3.0). I have tried putting it in different USB ports and I get a message saying that one of my USB ports has failed or is unrecognized by WIndows 7. I recently reformatted my PC and used the MSI discs to bring it back up. I can plug in the Caviar and it reads it... but it also keeps trying to read it... at different intervals. One person on the other board (the wrong GT70 one) told me to d'ld the Intel USB eXtensible 3.0 host controller... I did that and it tells me my machine doesn't meet minimum requirements??? Any help would be awesome.... thanks. BTW... before I formatted and redid the drives... my Caviar didn't do this...

    Dear All,

I have a GT70 0ND model and I am thinking of buying an hdd enclosure (with raid support) and use it via esata. Has anyone connected anything such via this port and if so what are the speeds they are getting? I am not sure if the esata port can give SATA3 or SATA2 speeds? (I am familiar that it has to do with the device I will be connecting as well, but I just want to make sure what speed can the laptop support from its port).

I have tried to google this and search it on this site but I didn't get any results.

Also I recently had to format the laptop and on Device Manager I have an Unknown Device under Other Devices. Anybody know what that might be? I have installed all the drivers from the MSI website, but still this is there.

One last thing :) is that when I installed the usb 3.0 drivers it said that it did not install all of the components apart from the Intel USB 3.0 Hub Driver, although everything appears to be perfectly installed in the Device Manager. Any ideas?

Any info would be really appreciated.

    Thanks.

Edit: Does anyone know how I can make Adobe Lightroom run with the Nvidia card. I have selected the program to be ran by the Nvidia, via Nvidia's control panel, but it's not happening. I do not want to switch the laptop of using only the Nvidia card...so any other ideas would be nice. Thanks.

For GT70 0ND, you will only receive SATA II (3.0Gbps) performance out of it.
For the unknown device, use AIDA64 to find out what it is, and what OS did you reinstall? I assumed it's Windows 7, and this could be a RADIOBTN device (for Airplane mode).
You will have to update BIOS and EC to the latest version in order to make this device disappears.
For USB 3.0 driver, here is the latest version for you.
    USB 3.0 v1.0.9.254

Yep only the primary bay (next to the graphics card) is SATA III in the 0ND.

Were you able to resolve this issue?
The USB 3.0 driver can be downloaded off support.intel.com, and there are two versions, the 0ND version uses 1.x.xxx series driver.

I really really thank you for your valuable help. The new usb driver worked wonders. Speed was bumped from 30MBs to roughly 100-110MBs....where it should have been actually... I also installed AIDA64 but cannot find the error I was seeing in the device manager...will upgrade the BIOS from the MSI website soon.

Any ideas of the wireless driver what is sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting? I have recently downloaded the wlbt_n2230_15.1.1.1._w700 but haven't installed it yet...as I had to format due to the wifi problem and I don't want to risk it at the moment. If anybody has used it and it works please let me know.

    Thanks.

By the way what is "EC" that you were referring to in your reply?

    You are welcome.
You can also get the latest driver for your system off support.intel.com.
EC = EC firmware, available from download page on MSI's global site.

Hey guys, after having my GT-70 for almost a year now. I'm starting to notice a big jump in GPU temps, looking around 79-80 degrees when I'm playing WoW. I'm thinking it's time for a repaste on the CPU and GPU and maybe adding some new thermal pads. After searching around on google and here I'm looking at Phobya Thermal Pad XT 100mm x 100mm x 0.5mm - 7W/mk (1 Piece) from FrozenCpu. Would one piece be enough to do the thermal pads or should I order two. Also, would you recommend any other the a loads or are these about as good as it gets?

I'm still loving this laptop and haven't even thought about replacing it yet but the heat issue and Fps drop are kind of annoying now. Used to get constant 60fps in ultra doing everything but now I have to change it to mid tier if I want to raid and not have any issues.

Before you go to redo the paste and pads open up the bottom and clean out the vents and fans with a can of compressed air. 99% of the time that will solve high heat issues. Over time dust/dirt/hair will build up in there and block proper air flow. Its good to clean those out every 6 months or so.

I hit it with an air compressor every month just because the places I'm using are generally pretty dusty. Even staying just in my room at work it gets pretty bad so I've got a monthly routine for it. That's why I'm thinking it's the pads. I was getting temps as high as 85 under full load on the gpu, but I was messing with the clock settings on MSI afterburner but once I stopped doing that it's been a steady 80 for a while. I may not get those thermal pads after all but get one of those fujipoly ones that's rated at 17 w/mk

Ah yah overclocking it will make the temps go higher as well, part of the price you pay for more FPS.

I have a GT60 0NC-004US with 670m. I have been having issues with Bluescreens from nvlddmkm.sys and sometimes dxgmms1.sys and dxgkrnl.sys happening during gaming since ~Thanksgiving. Updating drivers has not helped, changing OSes has not helped. Is this most likely hardware issues, and is there any way to fix it other than a new GPU? If I do need a new GPU, can I upgrade to one that uses 100w, as opposed to the 75w the 670m takes?

At this point I'd say it's possible that you have some RAM that has gone bad. Is that all stock in your system or did you get it customized?

This looks like a VGA card issue.
Can you try running Furmark and Unigine to verify?

Several go-arounds with memtest have comfirmed there is no issue with RAM, and the BSODs themselves alwayslist nvlddmkm.sys as the error, while BlueScreenView shows either nvlddmkm.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, or dxgmms1.sys as the issue.
I will attempt this later tonite. Is there anything I should look for when running it?

Symptom will show up if you run them long enough.
Note that not every utility can cause the problem to show up so it depends.

So, crashes whenever I run Unigine, sometimes a BSOD, other times just freezes forever. So, I'm probably just gonna grab this 770m and upgrade while fixing the issue. Anyone know if the 670m heatsink will fit the 770m? From pictures, they look the same shape/component placement.

It's the same for everyone, it seems nvidia has removed whatever mechanism MSI was using.

MSI has a customized function in the driver, so if you wish to use the turbo OC then you will have to stick to MSI driver, but with lack of updates.
However, you can use Afterburner to achieve the 5% overclocking and more without the need to use the turbo button.

The thing was before you could update them, it's just nvidia has now broken the function in their latest drivers.
