I heard that the MSI Computer Corp. GT60 0NE-403US with the GTX 680 has windows 8 update issues and some times hard disk failures but I really want to buy it.Is there anyone with the laptop that can explain and tell whether this is true or not and whether there are solutions...and others say MSI had poor support as the item is currently discontinued...

It is correct that is discontinued. The "ONE" models were replaced with "2OD" which use the GTX 780M video card and new Haswell CPU. Since its older hardware I would pass unless you're getting it at a great price. The "2OD models also come with Windows 8.1 preinstalled.
I cant think of any common issues the "ONE' had with Windows 8. -

Can u help me decide. I need good performecne and little moblity (Daily transport to work by car. There it will be standing on the desk).
Or wait for generations? ( gtx800)
It is i7-4800MQ too warm for GT60 system cooling? Is GT70 more silent and cooler?

Dear All,
I have a GT70 0ND, running win 7 64bit. Lately I had a problem with a 23inch external LG Monitor connecting it via HDMI. The screen was giving me problems (going on and off at irregular intervals and giving some irregular lines across the screen). I took it for repair and they said that it was the main board of the screen that had a problem. So, I decided to buy a new one. After 4 months of working fine, it suddenly decided to start behaving in the same way as my older LG screen. Haven't tried it yet with the VGA out. I just want to ask if anybody has experienced problems with the HDMI out, as I want to rule out that it's the output that is actually creating the problems and not the 2nd screen. This screen is under warranty so I'll probably be taking it in for service or replacement.
Any related experience, tip, etc would be very much appreciated.
Hope you are all enjoying these "little" beasts of laptops... -

Well you need to test the VGA to help narrow down the issue before you can really start sending things back.

Dear All,
Quick question. I have a GT70 0ND with the Nvidia GTX 675MX. How can I force it to work on specific applications? I have tried to via the Nvidia Control Panel->Manage 3D Settings, but it's not really working for all apps. I want to use it for e.g. Adobe Illustrator. I've also googled it but I am getting a whole bunch of irrelevant results.
Any help will be welcomed.
Thanks. -

I know in premiere pro you do have to add that card, not sure if its the same in Illustrator but you can try.
Open up C: > Programs Files > Adobe > Illustrator
See if there is a file called cuda_supported_cards.txt
If so open it then add "GeForce GTX 675MX" then save.
I dont have Illustrator installed on this computer to double check but I did have to do that exact thing on PP to get the mercury engine supported.
Another solution, does it work when you are plugged into power and not when on battery. It could be doing it because the GTX isnt on when just on battery power. -

Hoping someone can help me. Can't seem to update Intel Drivers they always fail and quit out of the install. Been like this since day 1 as far as I can remember and thinking not having up to date Intel Drivers is affecting game performance even if I have the latest Nvidia Drivers. Please help me

The igp drivers have no impact on gaming performance.

Anyone know if the 675m heatsink is the same as the 770m?
-
So I ended on a gt70 instead of the p157.
Dear god in heaven I have NEVER in my 28 year old life seen so many different bsod, not even combined in all those years compared to the two days with this machine.
From IRQL not less or equal, memory management, stop:0x0000007f (insert all sorts of random numbers here). I think I've seen 5 different bsod. Also sometimes the sound just freezes and the screen goes all blurry and weird and the colors are all messed up.
And when I started googling the issues I came across all sorts of possible issues, mainly bad graphic card drivers and that feckin killer network manager. I've tried quite a few different drivers but the machine keeps crashing, especially in one game. World of tanks. Often will the screen go crazy and sounds freeze just after I've logged in. Sometimes I'm able to play for 15 mins before tada bsod.
But in I'd say 95% of the cases it only happens when I play world of tanks. I haven't tried many other games to be fair, but I was unable to make the laptop go boom in cs:s and crusader kings 2.
I'm running memtest86 now, currently 62 errors after 41mins. I guess that means 99% the memory is at fault and I should just ship it back?
Makes sense I guess, but at the same time I feel like there's a bunch of other issues as well. Messed up drivers and or the graphic card.
Like for instance if I uninstall the nvidia 780m drivers and just run world of tanks with hd 4600, the computer doesn't crash BUT I get a black screen for some secs and get the message that the “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered”. Afaik the game should be able to run with just the integrated graphics.
Any thoughts? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You may need to update those.
Did you also upgrade memory to the system? -
Around 2200 in the memory I got about 60 errors, and again around 4000 I got another 65 errors. Other than that memtest86 ran fine the whole 7 hours at night in the upper mem range from 10 to 16 I think. So from what little it's probably just the one memory stick that is faulty. But I'm unable to remove it, becasue some of the heatsink(?) must be removed because it's right on top of the ram so I cannot get it out. I'm hesitant to remove the heatsink and or gpu\cpu area because I've never done that before. So i've not touched or upgraded the memory myself.

My wife just spilled juice on her GT60 and the center green leds for the keyboard won't turn off even after shutdown (unless I unplug AC adapter). Anyone ever had this issue? Cycling the backlight shows that green is stuck on, although the whole keyboard can go full white. I've tried half disassembling the laptop to dry/clean the insides. Got the keyboard out, but didn't want to take anything else apart because it's 3am. Could this just be the keyboard itself or could this be somewhere else on the board?

BTW do they sell OEM Steel Series keyboards anywhere? The ones on eBay look like they're either older models or bad copies. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, certain companies were selling them as upgrades to other brands of machine so MSI began guarding the supplies rather jealously.

I got an MSI GT60 Dominator 3K about a week ago, however it seems to have run into a problem before I could experiment with it.
While doing a simple reboot, without changing any BIOS options or hardware, the laptop remained stuck at the MSI boot logo after cutting on. Pressing the delete, F11, F12, F2, and ctrl+alt+delete keys have no effect. The only thing it seems to respond to is me pressing the cooler boost button on the touchstrip; the fan maxes out like normal when I turn cooler boost on, and it returns to the default speed when I turn cooler boost off. None of the front LEDs are on, only the numlock light is on (pressing the numlock key does not cut the light off). The power LED is white. This is still the case after cutting the laptop off and back on, disconnecting/reconnecting the CMOS battery, replacing the RAM, and booting without the SSDs, HDD, ODD, and GPU installed.
I tried waiting it out, but even after 8 hours, it was still stuck at the MSI boot logo.
It's running whatever the stock BIOS is, but next I'll try to do an emergency BIOS flash.
Anyone have any idea what could be going on? -
This might be a stupid question, as I don't know much about the physical process of putting together a computer. I have a GT60, about 2 years old, 16GB RAM and decent CPUs, but I badly want to upgrade the GTX 670M in it to something like the 780M or higher. Am I able to put a better card in? Is it better to get AMD? Apparently the cost of upgrading isn't worth it. Please advise.
EDIT: Can I just SLI it? -
Not sure how the AMD GPU would work. I tested an 8970M in a 16F3, which is similar to a GT60, and there were fan problems. -
Thanks! Much appreciated.

What fps should I expect in games like world of tanks and counter-strike source?
I am so very very disappointed in this laptop 4700cpu and 780m gpu.
World of tanks is barely playable at low with fps ranging from 30-50. And counter-strike source an almost 10 year old game I get 100fps at the start down to 50-60 fps when things get busy. How the hell is that even possible?
From what I gather the gpu at least is supposed to be not THAT far from my stationary 7950 card. But it performs like ten times worse. Yes I have made sure its using the nividia card instead of the integrated gpu in the geforce control panel.
I had a laptop with 765 last year and I sent it back because the noise was unbearable and the performance now with 780m seems almost identical. ing laptop gaming :|
Oh and the temps when I turn the fan on seems decent, around 65-70 on both the cpu and gpu so it shouldn't be throtteling? -
My guess is that it'd must've been some kind of defect in the motherboard. -
If you are careful to keep everything clocked down you ought to do fine with 120watts. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The laptop can measure current draw and voltage into the machine easily.
-
4700mq is supposed to be able to tubo to 3.4 right? No matter what game I play, it's stuck at 3.2 almost all the time, sometimes it will jump up for a few secs to 3.3 or 3.4 but quickly goes down to 3.2. Is that normal and why is it happening? The temperature is pretty okay when I play and click the fan button on, around 60-65 so it shouldn't be throtteling.
I'm having such a nightmare with this laptop and I cannot figure out why, games runs very poor- its even worse than my 5-6(?) year old q9550 \ 275 geforce. Maybe my expectations is just too high.
There is also no option to overclock with intel extreme tuning utility, as I heard it was pretty easy to oc it to 3.6 - not that I expect any noticable gains really, but why not when the temp is decent. -

The turbo speed depends on how many threads are running on the processor.

I have some lower wattage AC adapters that would probably kind of work, and are smaller, but my GT70 easily hits 140W with any demanding task. Having had 240W to 330W adapters, the 180W is pretty darn portable for a 15 or 17" notebook. And since that's the only way to get full potential of the system while on the go, I'll gladly keep the 180W in my backpack.

I here ya. I REALLY hope MSI gets support for 240W AC adapters so NOS can become useless.

I saved for quite some time to have enough money to buy a rather beefy laptop so I could play a few games on. I thought it would work okay, seeing as I'm not one of those who play a lot of first person shooter games. (Only cs:s once every month maybe) I'm so sad and disappointed.

Yes there are guides out there such as at tech inferno.
-
Thanks so much to reply Meaker.
I was searching there but I couldn´t find anything...anyway I´m going to try again.

You can use guides for the 780m too, though not bios files.

Hi guys I've been using MSI GT60 20C for the past few months and had no problem so far. But when I updated it into the latest windows 8.1 updates, I can't switch back into Intel HD Graphic. It used to be automatically change into Nvidia graphic when I played games etc and switched back to Intel when I closed it. But now from the moment I turn the laptop on, it keep using Nvidia graphic (the orange glow). Any help will be appreciated

Have a power problem with my GT70. I plugged in the power cord adapter numerous times, yet the battery is still being displayed in the system tray. It doesn't show that it is plugged in. I have checked the cords.
Seems the power brick is going as I plugged into numerous outlets and found one to finally charge. What's the warranty on those? I registered with MSi when I purchased it.
Now after a couple of attempts the original outlet works. -

If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage output from your AC adapter to make sure whether it's truly defective or not.
If the AC adapter isn't defective, then it is the system itself, such as a defective DC jack. -

Best to contact them directly to obtain a RMA#. -

If it changes depending on which plug it's in it could be the cord that goes into the brick or the electrics of the house causing an issue.

So that permanent brick cord just caught alight and singed the carpet! Luckily I was around to pull the cord put out the fire! Unbelievable!
