Update: I managed to get in touch with them. I emailed them again on the same email, frnb [at] msi [dot] com, and it automatically opened a new ticket. They replied instantly to the new ticket and sent me a link for RMA. According to the form, they will process the request within two working days and send me the shipping details. The form had a section for, "pick up my laptop location". It would be really cool if they had a service to pick up the laptop instead of me shipping it to them.

Fingers crossed that everything turns out fine. I have not been able to use the laptop much since I purchased it.

Just waiting to hear back from them if I need to remove my SSD, which I put in myself. It contains the OS and since it does not contain any personal documents, I do not mind anyone having a look at it. Although if they decide that they need to replace the laptop, I would not want it to get lost somewhere in the process.

    PowerPro R 6:8-M290X Gaming Laptop

Heh I couldn't find this one because of the PowerPro name.

Meaker, are you able to confirm what is the exact part number of the motherboard in this one? I know for sure that its based on ms-1763 but I'm not sure if this the whole part number, or maybe it is ms-17631 version 1.1 or maybe version 2.0 or maybe something else.
On one of polish forums I have read that its based on ms-17631 ver 2.0 but its not a confirmed information and since the motherboard I ordered wont ship until Tuesday I have a small window of opportunity to minimalize the threat of ordering wrong motherboard that wouldnt later on accept the bios or/and amd gfx card.
Since you are in the sales of PowerPro maybe you could get that information confirmed?

Thanks for your kind reply, I did a search on Amazon based on you reply and find some RAMs, and then used crucial system scanner and it gave me two different memory bandwidth (PC3-12800 and PC3-14900) and two different frequencies one of them is DDR3-1866 and the other one is DDR3-1600 but as you mentioned it should be DDR3-1600?right? so crucial system scanner is wrong or what?
If you could please help me out with these three links, that, which of the below links is the correct one?

    16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64 | Crucial USA
    16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-14900 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64 | Crucial USA
    16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64 | Crucial USA

any help would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks a lot.

You should stick with 12800 (1600MHz), using a faster RAM such as 14900 (1866MHz) will not help to boost any performance.

Since I'm not on site that sort of information is tricky to get for me. You could see if svet knows over at msi.

That is a MS-1763 whitebook version (GT70 2O series), with interchangeable options for the graphics card.

Yep thats a ms-1763 but whats the exact part number of the motherboard for this whitebook, and its version/revision :)
I'll check by Svet and if he also wont be able to confirm it then I'll take the risk - its not so bad if the worst scenario is buying also a nvidia card to make it work :p
It will hit my wallet much harder but in he end i would be changing my 8970 for nvidia card anyway.

That is the barebone which only ships with the nvidia cards anyway, if it were that easy I would have looked it up :p

The way to be sure would be to check the hardware motherboard revision in both an Nvidia chasis and one in the AMD 17 inch.

I believe it's printed top side of the board the reverse side of the CPU socket.

From what i can see the basics are also in bios :) my gx703be =176K motherboard and the same bios ..
Believe me I have checked all the websites with the i7/r290 combo but there simply is no such info.
I have asked Svet, maybe he will have some more info.
Or maybe some folder/file where this motherboard figures under this radeon/i7 laptop
Otherwise the only way is to buy and open such laptop, and I dont think I would find someone to do that...

176K is AMD platform but not Intel platform, this is simple a mixed version using 1763 Intel platform with AMD GPU.

I have the 890 and it's a very powerful system with the nvidia gtx 880m. The only issue is the lack of easy access to the built in ram and I can't find any mSata slots under the easy access bottom case. And the 2 readily available ram slots are blocked by the heat pipes requiring a removal and repaste of the pipes / heat sink. Still prefer my old Alienware 17 for ease of upgrades. Screen is really nice.

Msata is only included on systems that ship with an msata drive. It sits in one of the 2.5" bays on an adapter board.

Well that stinks. Even the ge60 that it replaces has 2 easy to install mSata slots.

You can still run RAID 0 with both 2.5" drive bays, and memory upgrade is just one time so once you have done it you won't need to do it again unless you need to clean the heatsink/vent plus re-pasting of thermal compound.
If you really want the mSATA adapter, check with MSI directly and see if you can purchase that separately.

I had my Samsung 1TB mSata drive in my GE60 and hoped to just move it, however I had a 2.5" adapter so it was not a real concern. I just prefer the multiple mSata slots and was very surprised that this huge, thick 17" laptop did not have such flexibility. Perhaps I should have ordered it from someone other than newegg.com but I have a preferred account so that's an easy way to go.

    I see, that's good.
MSI has stated "Super RAID" as an optional feature so it's a type of factory configuration therefore with just 1 HDD the mSATA adapter is not included.

It's either 2x2.5" bays or 1x2.5" bay and 3xmSATA, it's an option rather than one being completely better than the other.

I see. If I had know and the financing was equivalent I probably would have preferred the 1x3 version. So far it's a pretty good system. It's actually quieter than the GE60 under load.

Yes having a large fan helps it do that, smaller ones need to spin faster to make up for it.

They may not, but your reseller may be able to sell you the adapter to replace the 2.5" slot, send them an email. It does give each mSATA a dedicated SATA connection and your motherboard does have the header for it.

small update on my subject. Just got a confirmation from msi poland that the mobo in those barebones is indeed ms 17631 v2.0 but most probably v1.1 would also work when given proper bios.
the mobo should be in my home untill this weeken and so i'll let U all know how it goes;]

Hello, everybody i am really interested in buying MSI GT70 Dominator 895 /GTX870M/ can some please tell me if the laptop is good .I want your opinions about this laptop and maybe some other model.Thank you

Hi, I have the GT60 Dominator (so 15 inch instead of 17) with the same specs i.e; I7-4800MQ (2.7Ghz), GTX 870M 3GB, 1 TB 7200rpm HDD and one 8 GB 1600Mhz RAM. Mine came without an OS which saved me 120 Euros.

I was considering GE60 before this with i5 and 860m 2 GB but for 300 euros, I thought it would be worth it to upgrade. Plus the GE60 came with one SATA slot and two mSATA. The GT60 comes with 2 SATA slots. I was able to transfer my 2.5 SSD and still the original HDD for downloads.

So far it has run everything that I have thrown at it. I have been playing BF4 a lot on high and it works perfectly, even when there is a lot of destruction going on. I use spotify along side and can easily alt +tab out to check on fb chat while waiting for spawn. I have also been able to stream my gameplay on high to twitch without a hitch in HD. Hope this gives you an idea how good the laptop is. Also been playing CIV 5 and dota, which all work flawlessly on ultra/highest settings.

Heat wise, the laptop does get hot when playing bf4 but if you use the power cooling option (fan runs at a faster speed), the laptop stays relatively warm. For Civ 5 and Dota 2 on high, I dont need to use the power cooling! And unlike my old laptop, the keyboard keys do not get hot. It was a problem with my old laptop but I am glad this one does not have that problem.

Hope this helps. I have had the laptop for 2 weeks now and love it. The only problem I have faced is the whistling sound coming from the cooling fan. Turns out a few people have had this problem and MSI changed the fan for them. I have contacted MSI regarding this and should be expecting a RMA this week. Will let people know how it goes.

How many fps are you pulling in bf4? I just went bananas and ordered i7 4810mq and im still wondering if it was enough to play on high/ultra with 8970m [if it will work...]

    EDIT:
In case someone needs this info in the future:

After being VEEERY persistent I got the full mobo part nr for the1763 with radeon 290m and intel i7 on board and sadly its 607-17631- 05S while the one that I have ordered is 607-17631- 03S - nvidia revision :(

I will probably still try the swap but at this point I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the technician in MSI Poland is wrong :)

There shouldn't be much of difference between the boards.
The last 3 digit like 03S & 05S is packaging type with specific configuration.

Man thanks for this info!! It really gives me some hope!
I found some photos of the 05S and compared them to my 03S - they are identical! maybe some of the transistors and capacitors on them differ but the whole layout and number of parts soldered is the same...
Why oh why cant I have my processor now with me and start testing...

    Eh, not much progress.
I have opened it, installed the mobo, cpu, ram and gfx, but unfortunately the hdd adapter plugs differ from the ones in gx70 3be so I was unable to install any hard drives and windows would not boot when I tried to run it from external/usb hdd bay.
I have seen only bios but its a fully locked medion bios so there was no trace of any info about 8970m installed [and no gfx configuration tab].

No I have to identify and order at least one [there are two different marked hdd1 and hdd2] adapter.
Unfortunately for now I'm not able to find one that mathes the plug on my 17631 v2 mobo...

Looks like this one would fit for the 2nd slot but the markings on it say its for MS-16F3A MS-1762A

for now i have disassembled it but I took some photos of the bios so its medion x782x bios E1763IM7.50B, EC 1763EM71 ver5.11, EC build 12/10/2013

Found exact parts that Im looking for in ms 1763 disassembly guide and on youtube :)
It's HDD1 board 607-16F4C-C10 and HDD2 board 607-1763A-02S, now I "just" have to find someone who is willing to sell those to me, but not in the price of 1/4 of the motherboard like the ones on ebay...

Those BIOS are outdated, the latest BIOS version is E1763IG6.70U, and EC is 1763EG61.514.

Could you please share this BIOS and EC with me? Looks like exactly what I need, and I have no idea where is official place for getting barebone's bioses.
I have MSI barebone 937-176322-054 with Radeon R9-M290X.

What is your current bios and ec?

If u'll find one plz let me/us know. I was looking for it for quite some time now and I cant find anything besides an information that : "I was not able to find this exact model on MSI website, but drivers and utilities can be downloaded from GT70 2OD support page.
Don't try to flash BIOS though, it's not compatible."
