It depends how good the offer is really.

Sorry. I meant what does "how good the offer is" mean? Are you talking about the price the buyer will offer the seller??

Yes I am, $900 is pretty close to some modern systems, add a 970m to the cost and you may as well get a system with one in already. If you can get the seller down lower it could turn into something reasonable.

    Hello
I have a MSI GT70 2PC which apparently has a dead motherboard. I asked MSI and they said the model was MS-17631 ver 1.1, but I couldn't find the exact model anywhere. But i found a ver 1.0 model. Do you know if it is compatible?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the links
I've asked the sellers and nobody has the 1.1 version, does anybody knows the difference between them?

So long as it's the correct generation there should not be an issue using a particular revision.

You have ask all sellers so fast ? Normaly you can wait some days for one answere :) i´ve buy 2 MS-17631, both came with the Revision 1.1. All pictures show also the Revision 1.1, so you can be sure, that you become the 1.1. it doesn´t matter witch revision you get, both works great.

Hey guys, sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, if there's a better place to ask please point me in the right direction.

I have a Gt70-0ND (Intel core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M) and recently the gfx card took it's last breath. So it went out and I've accepted that, however since my card died my fans have been running at max speed as a result. My understanding is that these fans operate automatically so I was wondering where I would start to look for a way to control them, as it causes my comp to be quite loud when sitting idly.

It is normal that the fan reacts that way automatically when the GPU dies. I would assume trying one of the many fan control tools that users have here can help there since they control max fan speed. Or try the EC mapping technique to put a max fan speed of only 40% or so. It's been so long I have used any of those haha.

Sorry I don't have the fan tools myself. Perhaps someone else can chime in and point you to the right direction.

You simply need to flash an unlocked bios and in the extended options set it to IGP mode, this will return the fan behaviour back to normal.

Hey guys, don't know if this is the right place to be asking this, but today the Oculus Rift spec requirements were released. Have a look at them here: http://www.pcgamer.com/oculus-rift-pc-requirements-revealed/
I have the MSI GT60 (so Intel Core i7 - 4700MQ/ Geforce GTX780M - 4GB DDR etc.) Do you think our laptops will be able to run it? I know the GTX780M is relatively old (in tech years :/) but I have hope that the msi GT60 would still be able to pull it off? What are your thoughts? Any and all input is appreciated :)

So long as a laptop has a direct video output (the display connector goes to the gpu directly not through optimus) you are fine.

Your laptop has about half the recommended gpu power.

    Hello,

Can anyone give me a guide on how to replace the lcd screen for the MSI GT72 2qd Dominator? The screen is cracked from the inside but has no scratches on the outside at all. When I turn on the laptop, the screen is just all white and shows the internal cracks. I can plug it into an external monitor and it works perfectly fine so I need to just replace the 17.3" lcd screen. I tried looking for guides on how to replace it but no luck. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. The accident happened myself so MSI won't replace it for free.

    -Jerry

I will contact msi if they can replace the screen. If they cannot, then I will have to do it myself. Any good guides? Also I am from the US so is there accidental damage?

In the first year MSI do provide accidental cover, I suggest talking to your reseller.

Did you register your product upon 30 days of purchase? It needs to be registered within first 30 days to be eligible for such claims otherwise MSI cannot accept it. Call MSI directly to verify.

According to the Win10 PC Checker my PC is compatible, save for something with BlueTooth, but maybe that's just a driver needing updating.

Of course, that means nothing. I've loved 8.1 on the system, I just don't want my system screwed or being more sucky performing with Win10 on it.

You know how Intel releases wifi driver and BT driver also goes with it because it's WiFi+BT hybrid card used in the notebook systems. So if Intel supplies Win10 driver for the WiFi card then BT is definitely expected as well. :)

    Greetings,
Just to be on the safe side here, those tiny SSDs in my GT70 have an mSATA interface?
and not miniPCIe, right? - I can't really tell the difference with these two types.

I bought that brand new "GT70 0ne" little over 2 years ago in March 2013 so there's no MSI warranty left on it now (as far as I can see). Its specs are exactly the same as the "446US" configuration (though it doesn't actually say 446US on it anywhere), so it also has those two 128 GB SSDs (in a so-called SuperRAID, assuming this is essentially just a RAID 0 stripe, but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong because it may matter).

The laptop recently kind of died on me. It worked fine at home, then I went on a holiday at my mom's place and ever since I turned it on again after my arrival, the screen has stayed black, not even the MSI logo lights up anymore. I've tried some of the most common procedures (like waiting, removing the battery, I know it isn't much). The fans still work, so does the keyboard's backlight and the optical drive's tray (so basically just stuff that doesn't depend much on the rest of the device). The operating system is Windows 8.1. I opened the laptop's case and it looked pretty clean except for some fine dust in the fan area, nothing unusual that I could see really. So, I'm yet at a loss what's wrong with it, but I'd still hope it's not a fatality.

I also hope to somehow save (copy) the data from that SSD Raid to my (fairly new) desktop PC (assuming the data is still intact), so that's why I'm asking about the interface, as well as the type of Raid used, so that I can put them into one/two of those 2.5" SATA controller/adapter cases. - Would that even work? Would any other controller/chipset respectively be able to recognize and access the disk/volume configuration, or is there anything specific to those SSDs I should be aware of?
    .oO( Any thoughts? )

On a side note, the laptop's display (or graphics card/port/cables or whatever) went out the first time about a year before that, when there was still warranty on it. However, MSI merely stated they had to replace something graphics related, but I never got them to elaborate on it. (They also reinstalled Windows which was probably just standard procedure, though completely unnecessary IMO.)

Yes the GT70 uses mSATA when it has the super raid adapter. A modern intel chipset (when in raid mode) will be able to read the Raid 0 array.

You can try removing the GPU (the IGP will give you a display) or plugging in an external monitor to get it going on the machine itself though.

While working with RAID array drives, use DISKPART utility to manage them for best result if you are going to change SATA mode to AHCI, or to redo the array.

Thank you for your responses. So, I think I'll go ahead and acquire two of those mSATA to SATA adapters, hoping that the drives will still be recognized as a raid array.
DiskPart has been a valuable tool in the past already, but thanks for mentioning it. ;)
I had tried that already, plugged in an LCD monitor I'm sure is working fine, but it only recognized the physical connection and stated that there was no video signal on it. Concerning the removal of the dedicated graphics card, I'm not sure where it is buried in the laptop, and whether I'd have to remove the RAM etc first to get to it. Just removing the HDD and SDDs was obviously much simpler (and less risky).

It's also possibly caused by invalid overclocking parameters.

Yup. Its running cool. This happens even freshly opened. I have thought about overheat issue and replaced thermal paste but still the same. I have also tried to install old drivers, update bios, update ec firmware, remove upgraded ram. Pretty much everything. Re install os. Undervolt, underclock and overclock still the same. This is giving me head ache already. ^_^

This happened on stock setting. Then i tried to oc/uc, played around wind msi afterburner but to no avail. Oc just makes it worst, and makes the gpu crash.

Is it safe to assume that MSI has/will discontinue the GT60 series? :(
I don't think it will be updated for Broadwell or Skylake.

Shame since its one of the few (if not the only) 15.6" laptops that could support removable CPUs and GPUs as well as up to 3 2.5" hard drives when removing the optical drive.

Looks likes its the end of an era. I'll cherish my GT60 with its i7-4900MQ and GTX 970m as long as I can!

    Hi guys,
Apologies if this is a repeated question (I have done some searching of the thread, but not by any means exhaustively). Correct me if I'm seeing things wrong here, but I notice that (Ivy Bridge) GT60 ONC, OND and ONE users seem to be installing the GTX 970m just fine using just the 51X system bios and EC 16F3EMS1.T18 (I'm guessing this is the one found in the link on the original post: "16f3 51x.zip" (referenced below)).

Ivy Bridge Based GT60/70 Laptops: Require System BIOS Version 51x or 71x
It has been discovered by other users that upgraded their Ivy Bridge based GT60 and GT70 laptops that an unreleased BIOS version (version 51x or 71x) is required in order for the card to be fully detected and installed properly. The laptop will/should boot fine without this BIOS, however there will be issues upon trying to install drivers and functionality. After the update of the system BIOS to version 51x, the card is detected properly, and install perfectly with a modified INF driver. All performance and usability is exactly as expected. I plan to link to where this BIOS version is hosted for ease of access for future upgraders.

Download GT60/70 Ivy Bridge BIOS 71X or 51X Here.

I myself am an owner of a GT70 OND 202-US (Ivy Bridge) looking to install the GTX 970m, which from my reading is a compatible upgrade.

I think my main point of confusion is, and am looking for clarification on is, can I use the 51X BIOS on my system (considering I have a GT70) or am I one of those that will need to petition SVET to work his magic and get me the 71X BIOS. (I think all the GT70 Ivy Bridge users I've seen [thus far] have had to)

So when it comes to Ivy Bridge; 51X for GT60 and Svet's 71X for GT70? Is that how it works?

    Cheers everyone.

No. 51X is default AHCI, 71X is default RAID. But they may be changed later in the BIOS screen.

Yes it's the same bios with one different stock setting. Due to it confusing most users though they make different versions.

Thanks guys, so to clarify, I should be fine using the 51X Bios for installing the GTX 970m in my Ivy Bridge GT70 OND-202US MS-1762, without bricking my system?
    Fine or NOT Fine?

Something's always baffled me is why my MSI GT is using the intergrated Intel HD graphics when I have a nVIDIA GeForce GPU? Should I upgrade to the new 353.62 driver? I just updated computers yesterday for an ATI Radeon HD. One computer didn't have the driver at all using only VGA and the other had popup window of a driver error.

You should check the profile for the game in the nvidia control panel.
