Planning on nuking my GT70 back to factory defaults, then bringing it up to Win8.1 with all drivers etc. Any advice on what to do, and in what order? When I tried this before, I had massive issues with the wifi after updating to Win8.1 (constant dropouts even though it was showing as connected). So much so that I went back to Win8.0. Any advice on which drivers to use under Win8.1, and should I remove the software and run drivers only?

I recently decided that I had had enuf of Windows 8 on my Msi GT70 2oc-059us laptop. After much research and effort I have successfully installed Win 7, and overall am pleased with the results. I do miss the much faster boot times, but it's something I can live with. One thing I do really miss, however, is the keyboard backlight options that I had before, and I have not been able to find a driver for that for Win7. Can anybody help me out? Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Hi All,

    I have a Dominator Pro 2PE 890, GTX880M.
When I power on the laptop, the light comes on and then the laptop switches off. I have completely stripped the laptop and unplugged the bios battery as I thought it was that causing the issue. Is it likely I have a dead motherboard? I have tried holding the power button down to reset the bios but it hasnt worked.

Understand either motherboard revision is ok to replace with if this is the issue? Either version 1.1 or 2.0 will work fine?

    Thanks for the assist!
    Kris

What was the last thing you did before this happened? Is there any output from your AC adapter? If yes, then it's possibly a GPU or mainboard.

    Dear All,

Quick question. I have a GT70 0nd with an Nvidia GTX675MX card and I want to connect 2 external monitors. Back when I bought the laptop I had read that 2 external monitors are possible, but when I plug the 2nd external monitor via VGA it does not work. The other external monitor (which is the main one) is connected via the HDMI port. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks so much.

I got my GT70 0NE to show pic on HDMI and VGA together. I get an extended screen but can't get a custom screenmode that does use them together in games; my external screens are different, 1680x1050 vs 1920x1080. But desktop stretches to both screens.

    Dear All,

I was experiencing problems with my GT70 0ND (BSOD related to the USB3 controller) and I decided to format and make a clean install of Win 7 64bit Ultimate. However, I am having problems with my USB3 drivers as I am getting USB2 speeds out of them. The user Kevin@GenTechPc helped me back in 2014 when I was experiencing a similar problem and sent me a link with Intel USB3 drivers for the 0ND model and it worked back then, as it bumped the speed from 33 MB/s to 100-110 MB/s. Though, this is not the case so far, as I have tried to install this same driver, but I'm still stuck at 33 MB/s. Is there anything else I am missing that needs to change? Perhaps a setting in the BIOS, or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, this is the driver I'm currently using. I just noticed something quite interesting. Only the middle of my 3 usb3.0 ports is giving me this lower speed. The other 2 USB3.0 ports are performing anything between 70-80Mb/s to 100-110MB/s. The middle USB3.0 port is the only one which whenever I connect a USB3.0 HDD says "This device can perform faster....etc". Any ideas?

According to the spec, there's 1x USB 2.0 port and 3x USB 3.0 ports.
Can you show a picture of the one that you plugged into? Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I'm not upgrading the GPU, it's just that I was reading an article that perhaps a BIOS update might solve my USB3.0 speed problem. One of the three USB3.0 ports (the middle one) is behaving as a USB2.0, speed-wise). So was thinking of trying a BIOS update.

Thanks. I have been downloading most of the drivers from this page (for the past years), though there are a few of them that don't work, which is quite interesting coming from an MSI support site. :) Any idea why my middle USB3.0 is behaving as a USB2.0? :(

Could be a firmware related issue since it's been awhile. Have you tried other USB 3.0 devices using the same port? Also, perhaps you have had the same issue before but the symptom varies from one device to another.

    Hello,

Has anyone tried to install Windows 10 64bit on the GT70 0ND? Does it work well with drivers, etc?

    Thanks!

Most drivers are on the MSI website. Win 8.1 64bit work just fine.

Hey folks, do you know if the "super chill button" the one that spins the fan up to insane speed, is controlled by the EC?

My laptop is docked underneath my table, so it would be nice to activate that feature virtually in Windows or so.

My card reader is not working. (recognize sd as "SD HC" and is not let me do anything, even format).
I tried with other sd cards, and same problem.

Does anyone know what the most powerful CPUs are that I can use in my 1762? I'm now using a 970m and a 220w PSU?

You can't change the mobo, so you are stuck with a 3920XM or 3940XM, or a unlocked engineering sample 3720QM etc.

I have a 3720qm already. Didn't think the 39s could be used as they are a higher power consumption?

I take it the next down from the 39s is the 3840qm?

Can still be used, you will be power throttling unless you get a larger PSU. Yes 3840qm.

I already have a 220w PSU, would I not need a modded bios to allow the extra power?

How would I go about unlocking my current 3720qm?

Getting a unlocked bios will help a lot! Loads of tweaks you can do, I think there are a few online for the 1762, I might even find mine. Check this, we had a talk before ;) http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-680m-i7-laptop-can-it-be-overclocked.700659/

You can't unlock your CPU, only engineering samples are unlocked. You will need to get a better CPU if you'd like better clocks or overclocks :)

IIRC my PSU was also a 220W and it should do just fine.

Oh yeah so we did, wow that was a long time ago lol. Shall I just overclock my 3720 through xtu then seeing as a 3949xm is £200 and looking at Bench's I don't gain a massive amount over the 3720?

Are you looking at overclocking benches? Remember there is also the 3920XM.

You can try boosting the 3720QM as much as you can, try using Throttlestop.

no just standard clocks, can you overclock them that high then before thermal throttling?

to be fair i wouldnt know where to start with overclock settings, i had an extreme CPU in the past and i literally just chose the overclock speed in bios and job done lol.

I just ran a bench on my cpu through xpu and it was highs of 90c+ and thermal throttling like crazy, just re applied my mx4 paste after 5 years and its now hitting highs of 71c with no throttling. glad i did that lol.

    Hi,

I bought a used Medion Erazer X7820 which is based on a GT70 barebone. It came with a GT70 bios installed.

    Bios: E1762IMS.71X
    EC: 1762EMS1 Ver.5.06

However, there was a weird issue with the keyboard. Most keys were working fine, but some keys registered double inputs, e.g. when pressing "n" it actually registered "yn" ans so on.

So I was going for a workaround with Steelseries software macros. I installed Steelseries 2.8 and force-installed the Steelseries driver via Windows device manager. Suddenly the backlighting turned on and the doulb einputs were gone, but now some other keys were'nt working at all.

So I presumed there was some firmware issue and tried updating the bios.

I flashed a GT70 2D0 bios, with afudos /GAN only to realize that this was a mistake. Now the laptop turns on, I only see a black screen and the fans keep spinning, alternating between loud and very loud every couple minutes.

I removed all SATA-drives except the DVD-drive and tried blind flashing with both an USB stick and a CD with the original Medion and GT70 0NC bioses using CRTL + HOME method. .

How do I fix this unit?

Will a CH341A USB programmer with a SOIC8 IC Test Clip suffice or do I have to resolder a new bios chip?

Are there any other ways of blind flashing that I am missing?

The Medion systems are running off barebone therefore they don't use channel BIOS but OEM BIOS. Previous owner had flashed to the wrong BIOS & EC which caused abnormal behavior with the system. Try the programmer with test clip and see if you can flash it directly, if not then you will have to desolder it, reprogram it, and resolder it.

Barebone & BIOS typically have names like IG6 instead of IMS.

Directly flashing the original vendor bios with an USB programmer and a test clip revived the laptop, as expected. Some keyboard keys are still not respnding, though and I am still not able to find the Medion EX firmware.

I bought a new keyboard, which is working fine, even with Steelseries Engine 2.9.

However, with a Medion bios the HD4000 has an exclamation mark in device manager due to a ressource error. With E1762IMS.71X both GPUs are detected fine.
    - E1762IMS.71X is the latest GT70 0NC I was able to find on the web.

With E1762IMS.71X and latest MEdion ec Firmware I have two issues:

    - While both GPUs show no error in the device manger I cannot get any game to use the GTX970m for rendering. The HD4000 is always being used.
    - I can only use IDE Mode. Using AHCI or RAID Mode results in several blue screens during Windows booting procedure. I can skip them with F8 -> 9 and sometimes Windows loads fine, sometimes I run into a CRICIAL_PROCESS_DIED error. Falling back to IDE is working fine.

OK, Svet provided me with a modified bios.

It ran fine for 5 minutes, but after that the laptop turned off. The PSU died on me. It doesn't evne turn on on battery, though. If I remove the GTX970m, then the laaptop will boot just fine on battery power only.
