    Yeh, that's the BIOS file.

I'd rename it to "bios.rom" or something similar, and flash as described in the guide.

8mo for the bios file :l

    5482741,

What is your next upgrade ? I'm contemplating getting a 16F3 for cheap and add the SS Backlit keyboard myself - ofc swapping the 670M with the 7970M and I think that's going to be a beast (16F2 is already a beast but like the change :()

That's a start irfan, I think you can at least boost the Long duration power limit to maintain a constant turbo frequency according to your 2nd SS!

Majster will be able to help you I'm sure :)

I'm also wondering how the process of overclocking works, though mostly as a curiosity. Though is the stock cooling system good enough for an overclocked computer? I've heard one of the issues with the process is excess heat and it requires a good cooling system.

On unlocked i7 cpus on desktop you can overclock easy but increasing the turbo multi.

Other than that the only way to OC is the old fashioned way with the FSB (now called BLK I belive) and that way is much more limiting as your mobo may not handle it well, and your RAM may not handle it well.

I saw neither of these options in there and thus no real way to OC.

At some point there will probably be a software solution to overclock the BLK, but again this is usually a pretty small OC since RAM or System Buss will hold you back.

If the bios allows to change the multi of an unlocked cpu, then getting an unlocked one will allow for serious overclocks.

I'll probably try to get a 16F3 motherboard, to swap out with my 16F2's; if the 16F3's CPU can be overclocked.

I might wait until a new demanding game comes out before upgrading to 7970M or 680M.

If the "CPU Information" menu works, raising the "Core Ratio Limits" should allow XM CPU's to be overclocked.

The BCLK should be overclockable using the DIV-2S ICC sub-menu.

msi gt 60 all the way :)
compare to g55, msi gt 60 wins in all these follows
    1. faster gpu and upgrade-able later
    2. raid 0 controller
    3. lighter
    4. amazing screen(matte and superbright)
    5. easy to mod(better placement of motherboard and all the components sticking to it, take 3-5 mins to open up this lappy)
    6. better placement of ports and more ports

correct me if i am wrong xD

For the power consumption, just raise the "Long duration power limit" and "Short duration power limit" on the "CPU PPM Configuration" menu.

Apparently it's not that bad in terms of fan noise, though if you're overclocking you can set the fans into overdrive, which is incredibly loud.

And the warranty is 1 year international warranty, with an extra year of domestic warranty. It's actually longer than a lot of manufacturers offer (usually 1 year, and if it's two there isn't international coverage), but don't count them all out; I just don't know of any manufacturers that offer 3-year warranties.

I'm sure it will happen sooner than later.

MSI and Qualcomm Atheros just need to agree on an OEM price.

The 5ghz wireless band just got a big boost with the acceptance of the 802.11ac standard and today with the 1st product to arrive in stores. That would be the Buffalo.

    Products - AirStation™ AC1300 / N900 Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Router WZR-D1800H | Buffalo Technology

    Netgear should be next.

I believe it's already at newegg and in Fry's

Well, after selling my wife and daughter to the gypsies, I was able to....

No....wait....scratch that. If you add 100 to 200 bucks to that budget, you can get what's in my signature. Worth every penny. The MSI in my opinion outgunned the "equivalent" Asus model. Better sound and keyboard backlighting were just two of the winning features in my book....not to mention the Asus model graphics card only goes up to the 650M.

Hey guys, I was very close to purchasing the MSI GT780 a couple months ago, but after reading this forum for hours on end, discovered the new ASUS and MSIs coming out and decided to wait.. I'm glad I did!! I just purchased the MSI GT60 today on amazon, and should be receiving it tomorrow. At $1499 I think it was the best deal out there.

The only thing it doesn't have which I really want and basically need is a Blu-ray player. I will be studying abroad in the UK in the fall, and have some blurays i want to bring with me and watch during the plane flights.

Does anyone know if it is possible for me to purchase a laptop bluray player drive and install it myself in this computer? I have never attempted to open a laptop or change any parts and am wondering how complicated it will be?

Here's a link to the one i bought:

You can go into Nvidia Control Panel and set the default instead of auto to decicated graphics card. It will some the problem but you will have to switch it back if you want to get the maximum battery life.

Yes you can. I did it on mine. There is a screw you have to remove from the bottom panel (it has a picture of a CD or disc drive next to it). Remove that screw and pull out the drive.
Unscrew the bracket from the DVDRW drive and screw it on identically on the Blue ray drive. Also attach the front panel of the DVD drive unto your Blue ray drive and just push it back in and screw it in place.

Ok. So the local version of the GT60 I have has only the 750GB HDD.

Start up times are so-so, so I was thinking of adding a 120GB SSD.

    1) How difficult will the entire process be? Has anyone tore down or taken any photos of the internals of the GT60? Instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    3) Will it void my warranty? I realize different regions might have differing rules... but generally speaking?

    4) Which of the 3 (OCZ, Corsair or Intel) are better in terms of performance and reliability? Or any other brand/models to recommend will be welcome too. :)

I was into PC modding, but that was for desktops and a long long time ago (P2 300MHz -> 504MHz anyone? :D). If I go along with the op, how difficult will it be, or should I take it to a external shop for peace of mind?

    Thanks for reading guys.

PS: Tremendously enjoying this nb with Skyrim, COD:MW3, Diablo 3 as of now. Sure a far cry from the polygons of Quake 3...

Received my GT70 yesterday, had the curse of Bigfoot Wired trying to play Day Z (Arma II mod), I tried those 6.1.0.325 drivers and they did not work. The drivers on the MSI site right now do! Version 6.1.0.315_20120307_215214132_LOM. Edit: Scratch that, it only worked once, BSOD's today.

After reading all the praise bit disappointed with the sound of the GT70, it lacks mid range and thump. My ailing HP HDX18 kicks it's for a full fat sound. But it's burnt my left leg purple.

Hi Bistro thanks for the response! I see by your signature line you have the killer networks 1103 in your gt60, do you think its a lot better than the intel wifi cards out there? I've heard for years killer networks was the way to go but have had no experience with them. Thanks!

    Heck if I know....

Actually, from every I've read and heard from others the Killer card is definitely superior. The only thing is that with most higher-end cards like the Killer is that is they do not have Bluetooth capability. Frankly I have little use for Bluetooth. But just in case, I have a pretty good Bluetooth USB device...very tiny and it has a 50 meter range.
