Well this SUCKS. I just received my GT60 in the mail, opened it up, and went through the wholeboot process. Afterwards I wanted to test the speakers, so I went to a sample track and noticed some fuzzy blown-tweaker type sound coming from the right speaker. I've tried various sounds now off youtube and I am pretty sure one of the speakers is blown and bad. It makes that sound a speaker makes when you blow it

    :(

This happening to anyone else? It also seems some of the keys arent registering completely, especially the space bar... 10% of the time i hit it it doesnt register

Yeah, I felt the same with the max volume initially as well... but these earlier posts helped me:

Heihachi_1337: "For volume controls, you might want to navigate to the Control Panel > Sound and then double click on Speakers. In there under Enhancements you should find the Loudness Equalization and maybe the Equalizer. Make sure those are checked, it does help the speaker volume."

ViciousXUSMC: "Speakers are loud for me, so maybe its a configuration issue, make sure you volume is up for your program/game in the windows mixer as well.

For me I went into the windows audio controls and set it to 2.1 speakers and on the msi software turned off the surround sound option. I did leave the crystalizer and subwoofer on."

    HTH... :)

Seems to me that I read that there may be a plastic "flap" in that location that sometimes gets dislodged and vibrates against the back of the speaker.
As for the keyboard, others have also had that problem. You may have to request an RMA on that bad boy.

Hi Bistro, thanks for the info about the killer wifi card! I kinda know what you mean I've always had intel wifi cards in my laptops and haven't noticed much difference between them. Although a friend of mine has a sony with an atheros wifi card and i think it sucks! Glad you're enjoying your gt60, where did you buy it from?

@axl886 Thanks for the suggestions, it's not effecting anything apart from the volume though. I'm wondering if this machine came with a blown woofer but there's no muddy or fuzzy sound associated with such. =/

@ViciousXUSMC I think he means 'hope that helps'.

@Stormyy My HDX18 sounds a ton better than this, but it it gets incredibly hot if stressed in anyway these days and so burns my leg with the exhaust literally purple!

Uninstalling everything of the Bigfoot LAN card and disabling it solved my BSOD issues. What a piece of crap.

Does anyone know how to grab hold of a super raid adapter? Can it work on the gt60?

In my present region of residence,MSI markets a GT60 model that has the Super Raid adapter with the 2 64GB SanDisk U100 mSATA SSDs in a raid0 array plus a 750GB hard disk.

    Numbers are easy to understand.

With the VAT and high reseller margins they're very expensive here compared to the models without Super Raid.

AFAIK,MSI is not yet selling the adaper alone for those that might want to upgrade after purchasing a model without the Super Raid.

The standard SATA connector in the secondary drive bay can be taken out by simply removing 2 screws. There's one plug on the motherboard that the standard SATA connects to.

I assume the Super Raid adapter uses the same motherboard connection?

    Here's link to GT60 w/Super Raid:

    Hey guys,

I will be receiving my GT60 tomorrow and I'm so excited! I'm getting a customized $1250 version because the full blown version is just a bit over my budget, so mine has:

    8GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    1.5GB VRAM

and the CPU is the 3612 instead of the 3610, but not sure what difference that makes.

I'm gonna get an SSD for it in the future and prob another 500GB drive. Not sure how easy it is to upgrade the VRAM back to 3GB, but I guess if it downgrades easy enough that it should be OK to upgrade it.

    Roll on tomorrow! :)

Which graphics card is in the unit?

The VRAM is pemanently attached the the graphics card so to get 2GB or 3GB of VRAM the graphics card would need to be changed and probably the heatsink also.

The best time to get better graphics is at the time of purchase.Later is usually more expensive.

The normal graphics card in the GT60 is the nVidia GeForce GTX 670M "3,072MB" PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11 w/ Optimus Technology

The Clevo/Sager notebooks have a GTX670M with 1.5 GB of VRAM.

MSI probably made the model with the 1.5GB VRAM for that region.

Here in Seoul there's often models that aren't sold elsewhere.Almost all MSIs sold here are without an operating system.

The GTX670M 1.5GB make overclock better than the GTX670M 3GB VRAM as was the case with the GTX570M.

    Looks like a great machine.

    Best of luck with it.

BTW<I see it has a GLOSSY screen as opposed to non glare.

Thanks for your feedback! I missed that. Didn't know that it was glossy...just assumed it was matte because I thought MSI didn't use glossy screens on their laptops. That's a bummer!

See what happens when you buy things from a foreign language website! **edit**...scratch that.....it's pretty obvious from the photos and esp. the box shot!

Guess I'll just have to hope it's not too horribly glossy! I'll report back after I've received it.

I just noticed that my S-Bar no longer appears on the desktop upon boot-up. It is checked off in msconfig Startup. Anyone else encounter this? I could pin it to the taskbar, but I'd rather the icon pop up on the desktop automatically like before.

try to use tune up utilities 2012 to run it at start up
u can also do proper cleaning and system tuning there
    just an advice :)

btw guys, the 3G version of gtx 670m can't overclock that well :(
begin with the core clock with a slight less than 1.5GB version (i did around 830 max) and memory clock which is so so bad. (anything beyond 810mhz(1620 in reading)) will crash :(

Hey I was wondering if anyone's tried using a power supply with lower amperage yet?

I plan to take the laptop to class to do mundane things, and don't think I need the full 9.5 amps for Word and Excel, especially with Optimus. The laptop's heavy enough without the brick :)

As an English speaker living in Seoul I know all too well about foreign language websites but Korean is a very easy language to learn to read.Learning what you are reading is a different story.Korea is a very English friendly country with mostly all signs in both Korean and English.

There's over 400 million English speakers living in non english speaking countries.

I'm in the search for my next laptop, and I'm just wondering for those of you that were looking in the $1500 range and chose the GT60, why did you choose that instead of a custom Sager NP9150? I'm just trying to weigh my options...

WhatsThePoint, I looked at the link you gave me for the gt60 in super raid, but I might have to wait for msi to have the config in the US because that site doesn't do international shipping. :( Oh well, patience is a virtue! (Hurry up, msi! :D)

Hello! So it arrived yesterday and all is great!! It is a beautiful machine and all the components are playing together very nicely! :)

I mostly play MMOs like Rift, LotRO and I've pre-ordered TSW and playing the open beta at the moment and it kept crashing on my desktop PC with out of memory errors, but on my laptop it's playing beautifully! Fan is quiet and it's staying really cool...around the high 60s...seems a bit too cool really...maybe I should crank up the settings more.

My desktop has Win 7 64bit, 6GB RAM and a 5870, so it's not too shabby, but it still crashes the game a lot...it is beta though and other people are getting OOM errors too...but anyway...it's great to be finally able to play the beta properly on my laptop!

There is just one thing that is really bugging me and I think this is only on my Chinese model, but the white LED power-on light in the middle centre of the laptop is so freaking bright, it's really annoying! Who on earth would think it's a good design idea to put such a bright light in such a distracting position should be shot....unless it's the guy who customized the laptop...but I don't think he'd have had anything to do with the power-on light...that must be a design thing from the factory.

Do you know if there's any way I can disable it? Or am I just gonna have to put a little bit of black masking tape over it?

I have no idea if you can disable the light on the power button, but when its white, its using the Intel video card, and when its orange its using the Nvidia graphics card.

I didn't realise that, thanks! I tried changing it to use the 670 all the time and the light does change orange, but then it goes back to white again....I can't seem to get it to stay orange.

Is there somewhere else I need to set it to use the 670 all the time aside from the nVidia control panel?

    **Edit**
I found that if I leave the Nvidia control panel open then the light will stay orange, but maybe it's just me but I still find it bright and distracting. On my desktop there are connectors to the mobo for things like those little LEDs but I've never even attempted to open up a laptop before and I'm not sure I want to with this being new an all. I checked the BIOS too, but there don't seem to be any options there.

It is a bit bright when using in a dark room.

I had this on a desktop. What I did was cut out a cover made from one of the smoke grey colored static free bags that new parts come in.

    How's the glossy screen?

    Which screen is it?

Before using mostly non glare matte type as the stock lcd MSI had used an AUO B156WH01 v5 glossy type as the stock screen.

Yeah I'll sort out something like that....sounds good!

The glossy screen seems OK. It's an LG D01E9 but I can't find much on the net about it....guess it's pretty generic. Where I've got my laptop set up there's not much light interfering with the screen anyway.

Really good picture quality though, which is the main thing. I would like to try and adjust the colours to make them more vivid, but I'm not having much luck there. I think I've been spoilt by my Asus desktop screen!

Hi guys, new to the forum here :)
I have a question I haven't really been able to find an answer to, unless it's so painstakingly obvious I've missed it..
I'm planning on getting the GT70 with 2x64GB ssd in this super-raid, with a 750gb HDD, my question is would I be able to back up the 128ssd using the 750?
I also have a 1.5TB eHDD an would like to know if I could use the eHDD as a backup..

    Thanks for any advice!

Should I jump the gun and buy the current GT60? I really would prefer to buy it with the GTX 675m, but its not even announced yet. I am not really going to use it to play hardcore games, but want to still be competitive. So what do you guys think?

Also anyone know if warranty is void if I change one of the HDD to SSD?
