Yes, I had sent the adapter with the RMA. And no, the light on the adapter does not come on.

Unplug it from the notebook, then reconnect it, make sure it's not loose.
See if the light comes on.

I've already tried that. I have tried multiple outlets as well. The brick does not work.

I see, do you have a multimeter that you can use to measure the output from the AC adapter?

Okay, looks like you will have to contact MSI again to go about 2nd RMA for the AC adapter itself.
Also, check and see if you can get a cross shipment for the AC adapter.

I'm going to try that today I suppose. It is very frustrating to have this happen, especially so near the end of the semester when I am so preoccupied with grading.

Thanks. I've had a string of bad luck concerning this laptop so far, though I am fairly certain it is just that: bad luck. That's the problem. It's a great laptop otherwise. Someone somewhere just does not want me to enjoy it!

That said, would anyone happen to know where I could purchase a back up adapter that would be compatible? I'm afraid my knowledge of laptop adapters goes only so far, but I know I have been unable to find the exact model anywhere.

Also, just to make doubly sure it was the adapter, I tried my Dell adapter from an older laptop and found that it would charge the laptop. Problem is, that particular adapter is 120w as opposed to 230w--same voltage though of course. Will using a 120w adapter cause issues?

Oh, and MSi has agreed to a cross ship. Now I'm just waiting for some sort of confirmation--and I presume an RMA number.

Only a problem if you tax the CPU/GPU. It'd be best to just switch over to the HD 4600 until you receive the proper PSU.

The 120w should be fine for basic use. Give it a touch every once in a while to see if its getting real hot.

I ran my GT70 off of a 90W adapter for a few days, when waiting for a new PSU.

Yeah, I think I will just use it for a bit to keep the laptop charged and mostly run it off the battery--not doing anything too extensive while doing so. Just need to find a good backup PSU now.

Wife ran my GT60 over a 120w PSU for general use, photoshop/illustrator and partial rendering, without it failing. Until my replacement 180W came in.

Ugh my laptop keeps charging and discharging while playing heavy load games. Keeps dropping my frames and it is annoying, any way to fix it or am I going to have to send it in?

Have you charted your gpu and cpu behaviour over time with intel xtu and msi afterburner to see exactly what is going on?

Can you post up pictures of this?

It could be Hybrid Power feature at works, but the frame rate shouldn't drop unless battery is below 30%.

Monitor the hybrid power feature using Dragon Gaming Center to verify

I noticed a USB 3.1 driver on MSI's website and I've also noticed there was no 3.0 driver on that page anymore. If I need a USB driver, am I supposed to use that if I have USB 3.0?

...and is there any performance benefit for me if I do?

Should work with high/max settings, though not necesarily at the best framerate heh :) Even witcher 2 today is difficult to run maxed out.

Since few days ago my laptop is discharging a noticeable electric shock from the left usb port. If you touch the keyboard near it or touch the case you feel it really good. I took out my mouse from the usb port and it stopped. anyone knows what it could be?

Most of the time, such cases is due to bad grounding. Does it only happen when connecting the usb mouse? It can potentially charge the aluminum rest enough to give it a small punch hah.

Make sure you are properly grounded.

The shock is strong to make me jump my hand out. My house is properly grounded and I don't think it's that as it started few days ago out of nowhere. Took out my mouse out and it stopped. I'll try out another mouse if it happends too, because it doesn't happen with my drawing tablet.

Than it might be the mouse itself causing the issue. Possibly bad connection with the somewhere, causing a bit of voltage buildup. Specially if it doesn't happen with any other device, or the machine on its own.

Well, the new adapter arrived, but I can't use it because they did not send the power cord for it. I had already sent my old power cord back with the other adapter. They did not specify that the power cord would not be supplied otherwise I would have kept the old one. I love the laptop, folks, but MSi is really getting on my last nerve here. I'm not sure I will ever purchase from them again at this rate.

Do you have an old obsolete desktop, or an old power supply, I,m sure the power cord will fit untill you can make arrangements. Unless its the part that connects to the MSI itself.

I ended up doing just that. The guy said that sending just the power brick is their normal procedure, and apologized that it was not made clear to me the first time to keep my cord. He also agreed to send me a new cord, so there is that.

Sadly, no support ticket seems to have been filed this time on my account. I might be being paranoid, but I worry that my new request could have slipped through the cracks.

I'll give them this, it is never the same issue over and over. It's a new one each time.

The guy I spoke with the first time is who I blame mostly. He was a bit of a hassle to deal with and even tried to convince me to send the entire laptop back a second time despite knowing for a fact the issue was just with the adapter (I had tested everything by that point). Maybe if he had been less adamant on a full RMA, he would have remembered to inform me not to send my power cord for the cross shipment.

    Hello everyone.
I just got a new unit ( bought on another website) after my first return 2QD MSI GT72 , and have exactly the same defect of ghosting on the screen , but this Time the Affected area is much higher .

Maybe all Units With LG IPS panel have this problem and no one has noticed yet? That it 's too coincidental fail 2 of 2 units..

I am seriously Considering return the laptop one more time and go to buy a different model (maybe a AW17 or P750ZM )
