is it just me or nahimic is not as impressive as creative sound blaster cinema 2? The volume seems tinier with nahimic and the sound is a lot more artificial with heavy volume leveling processing

You need to enable graphing on the throttle reasons and then look back at the graph when you experience the CPU throttling.

    Hi,
Just to add to my issue of getting the firmware limiting system event log message. I F3 reset my machine and installed nothing. No windows updates, no driver updates or utilities and on balanced profile after about 10min idle in windows i get the message everytime i reboot. Note: I only get this message once, and only for core 0.
This does not log again even after a shutdown with fastboot enabled. You need to shutdown properly.
With high performance mode, i do not get the message when idle in windows, only when running a game for 5min.
Again, running witcher 3 i get 50-60 FPS solid. and on firestrike i get 8600.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

To be honest I found NAHIMIC inferior to SB Cinema 2 however I don't use either on of this because they are just advancements over existing Realtek drivers . I'm using SB X-Fi MB3 which use the capabilities of the existing Realteck chip and creates a new device. We all know that hardware is powered by Software and driver so this solution gives me the best Audio for gaming , movies, games and all the multimedia stuff I need.
I use driver only for Realtek no control panel or advancements and the SB X-Fi MB3 which powers everything . I love it .

I wasn't really impressed by nahimic, especially for the emulated surround on headphones, I would check the mb3 but there isn't any trial, so I have to buy it to check...
Can you give me more information about it?

And just for you info nahimic isn't compatible with gta5 so if somebody gonna go with it must force close it to play gta5... This is very weird...

yeah it was a risk for me 2 I found some demos over youtube check them out the only thing is the maximum sample rate is 24bit 48Khz if you need more than you should stay with CINEMA 2 .
DTS/ DOLBY movies playing perfectly so far I didn't found any problems with games all 5.1 games working without any problems.

and in case you go for it be sure to set your REALTEK device in controlpanel Configurtion to 7.1 then set SB XFi MBR as your default device and there again from configuration set 5.1 if you have 5.1 or 7.1 if you have 7.1 however in eny case REALTEK must be set to 7.1

Thank you so much for these advices, i have this dilemma due to the little gap of money between buying this mb3 instead of the sound blaster omni, this one for sure will have to be more reliable instead of the internal realtek (especially speaking about the audio jack and internal amplifier)

Ps:im using a siberia v2 as my daily headphones

    One active core.

So, what's really happening? is it Bios? Processor? EC? PSU?

If it's the same as in my case, then using ThrottleStop (8.0) with multiplier on 27 and up fixed that almost totally. I don't know what is the relation. I have no TDP or thermals problems. It seems that MSI need to improve their EC/bios algorithms. I've contacted them and they tried Prime95 + Furmark which causes no problems (with my GT72 too) - I told them to try some games.

It could be a very short power on of more than one core which limits the frequency, we are getting very picky here as such a drop wont cause much of a difference even under benchmarking.

It wasn't picky in my GT72 - I would get 40FPS on Bioshock Infinite with CPU clocks at around 1GHZ. Some other games too. I think that the games that realy loaded the CPU were ok, resulting in higher CPU clocks

Meaker, do you have one to check?

I was talking about the pictures I have seen, there is nothing to suggest it is related to your issue, if you could post pictures of your activity then maybe we can diagnose those drops.

LOL I have the OMNI form before when I had the Alienware M17 R2 now is sitting on my desk looking nice doing nothing , they are pretty similar in options , reminder for X-FiMB3 it is ANALOG only so no support for DIGITAL OUT /TOS. However I love my Analog out and the DANCING GT72 Keyboard :)

I'm sorry Meaker i don't understand what you're saying, could you explain more. :(

In my case, disable speedstep in bios then turn on Turbo from windows using software such as i7TurboGT which is included in RealTemp, just uncheck Disable Turbo.

Let me know what they say after they try some games :)
    Thank you ;)

Curious, anybody know what they mean by "screen burn"? Havent read that as an issue elsewhere, is in lag related or literally a still image will burn into the screen like an old TV?

Nice laptop, tempted but trying to decide if the 17" size is doable.

Hello! I just ordered this monster and have a couple of questions. My first question is if I ordered my machine with only one m.2 drive, how difficult is it to throw multiple high capacity m.2 drives I purchase myself and will it void my warranty. I'm familiar with tear downs and am comfortable with most everything except having to disassemble the whole top end and tinker with the backside of the mobo. Secondly, is there a standard and max capacity I would be able to go by to be able to utilize the super raid module? i.e. I would I only be able to raid 0 a max capacity of 256gb drives or can I raid the highest capacity m.2 drives I can find? Thanks for your help :D

They modified the fan rotation speed most likely due to overwhelming complains about noise. notice that GPU fan at idle is now spinning at 1200+ RPM after the update. before was 1500+ RPM, close to CPU fan RPM.

I'm considering to buy the GT72 2QE and the speedstep issue is making me worry a bit.

Come to think of it... try to assign higher priority to the game process in windows task manager, because when the CPU is more occupied with a demanding process it's maybe less likely to throttle down. You can also try limiting the CPU core affinity for that process (maybe set it to a core on which the warning isn't issued).

To install more m.2 should be fairly easy, just have to take off the back panel you should have clear access to the m.2 connectors. As far as warranty goes you should check with you vendor or msi. To my knowledge the highest m.2 is 512gb and that should be able to use super raid.

I am not sure if this is true or not, but when I was looking to add more ssd space to my GT70 an MSI tech rep told me that if I wanted to Raid 0 the drives my system image would not work and I would have to purchase a new Windows 8.1 key. It had something to do with my system image being AHCI and not working once the bios was switched to RAID. I chose to keep my 128gb ssd as an OS drive and purchased a 512gb drive to keep as a games drive.

when you raiding a drive, the drive will be wiped. So a windows would have to be reinstalled, but you current windows key should still work. There could be the problem that windows is detecting different hardware but if you contact Microsoft, tell them you are upgrading hardware they should be able to help you with that.

It all sounded like a lot of extra work for speed that was not really measurable in real world scenarios (Raid 0), so I just chose to skip the raid and the headaches.

so, i've testet the new ec and bios. now that gaming monster is very very silent. it's amazing. but something is wrong with the new realtek sound driver. when i install it, all fine. but after a restart the realtek symbol does not work. with the previus driver, all is fine.

I believe it is meant to be like this as they use driver only version and all other adjustment should be done through NAHIMIC panel . For example I use this kind of drivers directly from Realtek not the one provided by msi , If I wanted Realtek cont panel I had to go with msi release , however seems they drop the Realtek cont panel in this release.

So with the new EC the GPU cooler don't run at Max Automatik like it did before. In the one side it's good and quite, But on the other my GPU get's 10 C warmer.

Download and install Belarc System advisor first to get the windows embedded key, then install the raid drives and reinstall windows using embedded key.

If it doesnt accept key on install, install windows with demo key and activate afterwards.

Trick worked for raid install on original non raid AW and gt60 so should work on GT72.

If it doesnt work, call in.

Also remember that your windows usb stick must be created for UEFI install otherwise it wont automatically pick up the embedded key when you try and activate. So you cant use the standard Microsoft usb image creator. Use Rufus to create USB Windows. It has the option to install UEFI.

I finally decided to buy the Xfi Mb3, what a great leap ahead for the sound quality with my headphones :vbeek: actually i cant find any difference between my gt72 and my desktop (powered by a xonar d2x with UNIX driver) about the virtual surround!!
Now im trying to get more from the speaker, the last SB cinema 2 and nahimic sounded better with the default settings.

Today i decided to take out the modded g sync, for two reasons, black screens while playing were too annoying for me and on cs go i couldn't turn off the vsync/gsync that means more lag input...

Now, after gamenab left we have just to pray and hope to get something that will enable the g sync on ours gt72....

G-Sync wants v-sync to be off in game and should not introduce input lag.

I dunno, during this week i played mostly cs go, HOTS and metro redux (where there isnt any vsync option), as a player of cs since a few years i found my performance going worse ,like i couldnt do any kill with the awp, a lot of difficult to manage the spray with every weapon...
I always played cs with 250+ fps on 60hz displays.

Now i came back to the 353.30, strangely i cant raise the frequency of my screen, until 70 hz is fine, above them im starting to have bad interference :vbconfused:

Tempted to jump at the 970M version just to try out the gsync, and could always upgrade the 970m later down the line.
