The X-FiMB3 sounds amazing and powerful with my Logitech 5450 and without any problem I'm really satisfied . Although I mostly listen to Drum n Bass , Tech House ,Techno , Minimal ect ..so for that kind of music fantastic . Also movies sounds great generally I love the app better then any other solution so far on my GT72 D pro2QE
The NIHIMIC sounded empty , no BASS I mean ..compared to MB3 completely flat .

does sound blaster MB3 sound better than the built in sound blaster cinema 2 on the internal GT72 dynaudio 2.1 peakers?

Exactly, audio in through headphones got a great improvement with xfi mb3...
Especially tanks to the equaliser, that's missing in both sb cinema 2 and nahimic...

What about your sound from the speakers? I'm finding a lot of difficult to get more from them, I'm suffering especially with the basses

And just today I found a bug, with the xfi mb3 and the latest audio driver (from msi) while I plug my external microphone (via the mic jack) system is using the integrated one (the one close to the camera) and there isn't any way to change this.
Personally, I can say just meh, I'm still searching for the right settings, as I said, headphones audio got a really big improvement, but I can't say the same for the speaker.
Maybe losing a few hours on the equaliser can improve this, but actually, after about 1 week of using I still didn't find the "sweet spot"

PS: xfi mb3 bring you a lot of possibilities to tweak the audio instead of the cinema 2, so probably I'm just not good in tweaking it...
Ps2: there is the possibility to export and import profiles, maybe we could share ours profile, as I said few post before, I'm using a pair of siberia v2, if somebody needs my profile I can share it!

Thanks for the update. I mostly use my GT72 on board speakers as i find them good enough for normal use. If i wanted to kick back and enjoy some tunes, i would plug in the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 for pure pleasure. but sound blaster cinema 2 does not offer optimization for MM-1, only the internal speakers is supported. possibly due to the fact that MM-1 is connected via USB.

I'm looking for alternatives to replace the sound blaster cinema 2 since it's no longer offered by MSI and despite the complaints on nahimic rubbish app, they still press on to offer that software. i can only hope nahimic improve their software stability and audio performance for future releases. until that happens, nahimic is utterly rubbish.

So I don't know think that xfi mb3 is good for your use, especially because your external speaker are usb and not analog.

Stick on cinema 2 now and wait/pray for some new releases of nahimic (I'm sure this will take long...)

Are you looking for the SBC2 downloads?

thanks for the link, unfortunately SBC2 is no longer working with the new realtek driver releases. u can download the latest realtek audio driver from msi and test with SBC2 to see if it works on your side, cos on mine it definitely does not.

You should try with the original and untouched driver from realtek (r 2.7x) last time I tried them I found a problem with the subwoofer not working (so a lot of treble and mid, but no bass)

You can also use the driver from the driver disc which came with your package.
If you want the last working release from MSI, we can ask them to provide it for you.

i actually have the old realtek driver and the SBC2 installation with me. however, this is not the way to go, as windows 10 is approaching, drivers will undoubtedly need updating and when that happens, SBC2 will no longer work.

also as a side note, anyone noticed the latest release for MSI true color v1.2.460 for GT72 980M TN has problems with keeping brightness settings after LCD wakes up from sleep? i have tested even with v1.2.464 and still have issues with brightness setting after LCD wake from sleep. only the oldest v1.1 works flawlessly.. MSI apps are on a downhill slop. first they removed SBC2 support and opted for the rubbish and buggy nahimic, now they released problematic true color app. do they even test the apps internally before releasing?

Yup, you are absolutely right. Consumers should be provided of their preferred choice.
Perhaps Nahimic is better for some users, and not for some. If MSI is only getting the newer Realtek driver licensed for it then there's no way SBC2 can work since the new version no longer contains certificate for it.

My suggestion is to contact MSI and to let them know about it.
We will also check with MSI to see what they say about this.

Also we are not just speaking about good and bad, but nahimic got me crash on gta5, csgo and HOTS (the ones i tried with it) so we have more problem than just the sound quality...
On gta5 it is impossible to start the game without force closing nahimic and all his audio service before start the game!

The Basses with MB3 and &Z5450 are so powerful that I had to reduce them on te EQ and I set crossover to 80hz also I had to deactivate SUBWOOFER GAIN . What speakers system do you have ?

not only games are having issues, i had problems with MPC-HC media player which again and again failed to start with nahimic running at the background. exit nahimic and MPC starts working normally again. the problem with nahimic is not just rubbish sound quality, the stability of the app is highly questionable despite the version (1.12, 1.13).

I was speaking about the integrated speaker (dynaudio) not the external speakers ☺
Everybody has the same problem in gta, even because is the most noticeable, you can't launch the game!
You can check on the msi forum for this issue.

On csgo and hots I had a few crash, after replacing nahimic with sb mb3 I didn't have any other crash.

Ok guys, I'm deciding between the ''new'' GT72 2QE Dominator Pro (i7 5700HQ) and the GT72 2QD Dominator G, you know, G Sync model. I need to know if there's any drastic difference.

I mean, I'm from Spain and will buy the laptop here:

    http://www.pccomponentes.com/msi_gt72_2qe_1623xes_i7_5700hq_16gb_1tb_gtx980m_17_3_.html

It is worth this model over this?

    http://www.pccomponentes.com/msi_gt72_2qd_1237xes_i7_4720hq_16gb_1tb_gtx970m_17_3_.html

    http://www.pccomponentes.com/msi_gt72_2qe_1456es_i7_5700hq_16gb_1tb_128_ssd_gtx970m_17_3_.html

That's my 3 options. I have already Windows 8.1 so I can install it if I choose a FreeDOS model, I only need to buy a SSD in this case. My main question is, it is worth buying a 970M with G Sync or 980M without? I'd say you'll choose the 980M :p

(My wallet can't afford more than 2000 €)

I hope you guys can help me to clarify my mind. Thank you in advance!

You already know what G-Sync does right? If not, you can read about it here.
    http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/faq

If budget is an issue, then you can give up on G-Sync since you don't have to give up on other superior specs.

Regarding Nahimic issue that you both are having, can you try the following?
    1. Remove both Nahimic software & Realtek Audio driver completely, then reboot the PC.
    2. Download and install the latest version from below link, and try again.
Note 1: The Realtek audio driver is intended for GT72, other systems with ALC892-GR or ALC892-CG are supported as well.
Note 2: Nahimic software and driver are matched pair, please do not mix one with something else different.

    Download:
    Realtek HD Audio 6.0.1.7534 (ALC892-GR ALC892-CG):
    Nahimic 1.2.2

Note: They are combined into one file.

thanks for the driver and software update. i've tested it, initially the sound seem improved but things quickly went south. stability of the app is still questionable, volume and clarity went back to muffled, over processed and sound tiny. MPC-HC still failed to launch over and over again as long as nahimic is running. after i exit the nahimic app, things went back to ok and tolerable. u can test it on your system. it's replicable

    Hi,
Has there been any updates on this?
I raised it as a question to MSI on their support page and they simply said if I have reset it and then put the latest drivers on and it is still happening to send it in.
Seems a little extreme if it is simply ec in the end.

    Thanks

Haven't reply. Said before that they will inform me if there are any updates but I'm not sure about that.
I saw there is a new bios so it might help, but the description says nothing about this problem

You do know you can solve it with ThrottleStop, right? just download it, run it, set the multiplier to 27 or above and hit "turn on" - it won't damage anything. I got much higher and more stable results with this

Also, OC for the GPU is quite easy

I still think you guys are running into some normal power/current/voltage/load limit there in the cases where you get small changes in clock speeds.

40FPS in Bioshock constant is not small chages in clock speed. It was resolved after I used ThrottleStop. It repeats itself unless I use ThrottleStop which does not override the voltage/current/power limitations, but still works in this case - so it's hard for me to believe this is the case

Kevin@GenTechPC, truly appreciate your help in this forum and providing new drivers to test, though i cant say the same for MSI. it's odd we are getting support from reseller rather than msi directly. their tech support does not read forum or do any internal QC test before releasing software. have any of you tried their latest true color app v1.2.460 for GT72 on nvidia latest driver? it looses brightness control setting when the screen timeout and resume back. say i set to 90% brightness, let the lcd go to sleep/turn off, moved my mouse and the screen came back on at 40% brightness! i even tried v1.2.464 and it's still the same. only the oldest v1.1 worked.

anyway, keep up the good work Kevin.

I i just bought the GT72, but with the 980m 4GB, so I ran the skydiver test and my scores (specially in graphics) are inferior to yours Striker, but as you have the 8gb version, maybe it is for the difference in the Vram . What do you think of the results? Is there a benchmark database here in the forum?
    [IMG] [IMG]

EDIT: It seems that I had an old version of the BIOS, I upgraded it and now my numbers are better:

Well, bad news the GPU started do do a buzzing nois, like a coil wine, I didn't know that the mobile gpus had coils

Anyone already experienced this? Must I be worried?

Edit: Apparently Hw Monitor and 3D mark says that my gpu clock speed is 540 MHz that is not normal at all

Pretty much all electronics have inductors. Especially when you power large chips.

Yes I looked at some images in te internet and yes there are inductors there, but should I be worried? It is my 3rd gaming notebook and it is the first time I hear the sound. Also, any ideas for the 540 mhz? In reality it surpass the 1100 mhz under load according to gpu-z but 3dmark says that it is only 540... maybe it has something to see with the g sync screen?

I really wish futuremark stripped that detection out becuase it just confuses people, please ignore it. Rely more on dedicated programs and if you are investigating odd behaviour always double check with another program.

The program writers are slow to update especially mobile cards recognition. MSI Afterburner has never supported mobile cards and never will (re Unwinder). GPU- Z seems to read the real speed right under the sensors tab.

Can the current version of the MSI GT72 dom be upgraded with a Pascal Nvidia GPU? It is a next gen architecture due in 2016 so I was wondering if the motherboard would support it...

Quick probably dumb question, but do all of the GT72 models come with MXM GPU's? I noticed on an XoticPC youtube video the poster commented that the particular GT72 he was reviwing I think the 216 didn't have MXM graphics, which didn't make sense to me.

Except the CPU which is soldered, and everything else is upgradeable.

    Hey guys,

I am having an issue with Nahimic. I searched the thread and noticed a few people having issues with it. bu I did not see anyone with this exact issue (I could have missed it). I downloaded the software and installed it, but I cannot get the user interface to open at all. I am not even 100% that it is doing anything. The icon is in my lower right side, and the process is displayed as running in my task manager, but the GUI does not open and I notice no real difference.

    Anyone else have this issue?
