How many percent of users would do the battery swapping?
Based off common sense it is less likely needed.

I don't ever remember having spare batteries charged up and ready to swap, back when almost all laptops had user replaceable batteries.

The Clevo P750ZM is a 15" machine that houses a desktop CPU, and all the components are pretty easy to get to. Battery is removable with a slide latch. Two screws and you have access to the 2.5" bays and one M.2 slot. Four screws gets you access to the CPU/GPU cooling systems, two RAM slots, wifi card and the other M.2 slot. Two more screws, the keyboard pops off and you have access to the other two RAM slots.
My point is that it's entirely possible to design the same machine with easy-to-access components. Just make it a design priority.
Besides, if part of the appeal of a machine is the possibility of upgrading the components (including the GPU), you'll attract people who expect to, you know, be able to upgrade them. These people expect a machine that is easy to access/maintain.
It just seems to me this GT72 contradicts itself. Yes, a few screws and you can change/upgrade the GPU. Great right? Oh, you want to swap out the RAM? Sorry, gotta take the entire laptop apart to do that. You already have several 2.5" SanDisk Extreme Pro SSDs? Sorry, can't use them on this laptop. It's as if MSI toyed a bit with the whole idea of high-end, upgradeable parts, but didn't fully commit to it.
My opinion, of course. -

Damned if you do and damned if you don't on a lot of those counts Ramzay. As for the battery and ram both are usually one off works and you get the ram populated in the tricky slots first so you can always just add more if you only shipped with two sticks at least.
The battery being in that compartment better thermally insulates it from the device extending the life span. -
I got a msi hermes backpack on the way from xotic pc.
Did a lot of you get one with your g72?
Whats it like? -
It's great. Really roomy and as comfortable as it gets, considering you're carrying a really heavy laptop

my laptop is not as big. its sort of a cross brand thing with an aorus laptop. ill try to get an asus rog mouse and a alienware keyboard to complete the set and level up.

Well im dying to use it. I have only the youtube video on it. It seems like it has a hard front and back to it

Ok, this laptop is on my radar. Specifically the 1666 or 1667. My blocks are the DVD drive instead of blu-ray, non-ips display and lack of usb 3.1. Aside from those, whats the generally view of this laptop?

Hey, someone knew, when Win 10 driver for haswell gen are avaible? Only for the g-Sync and the broadwell gen there are drivers.

Someone finally succed in flashing the msi gt72 Gsync vbios on the MSI gt72 non Gsync?

Well I'm a lucky guy, having a new monster in house besides my children...
Due to a very good offer I could increase the specs of the GT72 to get a GT72 2QE 461NL:
- 32 Gb RAM
- 980M with 8Gb
- 4x128 Gb SSD in raid
- 1 TB HDD
- IPS screen
GREAT !!!
Superb machine. I'm coming from a Dell XPS 17 which was 5 years old and needed replacement.
And surely, I have read all posts here in this thread to get all important information before tinckering with it.
As ever, the setup and updating of drivers/software and removal of bloatware is very time consuming.
But now, after a couple of days I still have questions which could hopefully be answered.
1) The manual
Is there a REAL manual? The downloads on MSI website gives only a very small manual and gives no detailed information.
For instance, I had to go on google to find out how to get into the BIOS. The manual doe snot mention one letter on BIOS and other stuff.
So, I'm clearly missing something. Is there a detailed manual on hardware/software?
2) EC firmware update
I have updated the BIOS to the lastest version. Easy.
But the EC update manual states stuff which makes me afraid. You have to uncouple the battery?
How do you update the EC firmware? ONly the windowns setup executable and go?
3) Steelseries keyboard:
Related to lack of manuals, but is it possible to program colors for keys? Seems when using the software, only sections of the keyboard can be colored, not single keys.
And how to disable the lights all together? There are options for 4 presets, but I seem not to disable the lighting in a preset.
4) Windows 10 update:
I read confusing reports on internet. Some say Win10 drivers are not yet released for the 4th gen systems.
Others have issues with WIFI after upgrading to Win10.
What should I do, first upgrade to 10 or not? Who of you out there have already upgraded and what are your issues (if any)
5) Killer network:
No manual at all. What is it? How to setup?
(I know what it is, surely google is my friend, but strange there is no help whatsoever)
6) Driver/software updates:
Always time consuming getting info on what is installed and getting new stuff.
How do you manage this? Only use the MSI downloads or also go to the specific sites to get newer stuff?
I updated nvidia drivers from their website. Which drivers can also be obtained from other parties which are newer compared to MSI versions?
7) Does this machine support wireless display?
8) What is the best free gfx demo to show off the gfx capabilities of this monster?
Happy man with this new (but expensive) hobby tool!!!! -

Ok, I decided to upgrade to Win 10...
But, it seems there is an issue with the SSD speed during install.
I started the upgrade this afternoon and after 4 hours it is still in the "copy files" phase, at 60%.
It crawls up.
Specially on SSD I would expect the install to be fairly quick, but this is like i"m installing it on a floppy drive.
I will let it run, but I would like to know what the issue could be. The system was running on full speed before upgrading, WIndows boot was within seconds.
Looking on internet I would several reports having issues with setup speed on SSD, but could not find a clear cause.
Probably a setting in BIOS.
Anyone have a clue? -
Well, I thought the grass would be greener... Just got my MSI GT72 Dominator from XoticPC. The GT72 is nice, but I could tell almost immediately after flipping the screen open that the build quality of the AW17R2 is much better than the MSI.
As soon as I flipped the GT72's screen open, I hear that creaking plastic noise you get with cheaply built things. There's also a spot above the right side of the keyboard where the plastic looks "discolored" like some kind of cleaning material or solvent was spilled on it and not wiped up immediately. I tried cleaning it off with a very lightly damp cloth, but it wouldn't go away.
Otherwise, no overheating issue or issue with lots of heat coming off of the keyboard, both of which I experienced with the AW17R2.
Couple of questions regarding the GT72:
What I purchased is:
GT72 2QD-1445US
Product SKU: BB7570H16G1T0S81M
Model: 9S7-178131-1445
It's equipped with:
i7-5700HQ
3GB GTX970M
1TB 7200RPM HDD
16GB DDR3 1600 RAM
What's the difference between the 2QD and 2QE? I'm assuming the 2QE is the newer model? Mine came with Windows 8.1 x64 (non-Pro.).Last edited: Aug 30, 2015 -
Have a problem with my machine:
Sometimes when I restart, it hangs on the MSI logo, and eventually the left zone of the keyboard will flash blue. It boots just fine if I power it off then on again.
Anyone have any clue why it happens?
2QE = 980M -
-
Ok, so I bought the 2QE with only 1TB HDD and now fitted 3 x 250GB Evo SSDs in the empty M.2 SSD caddy
Getting 1409MB/s read and 1205MB/s write on AS SSD Benchmark. Ties up nicely with claims from MSI.
Anybody else with similar setup have any numbers they can share?
-
Dumb question maybe, how to upload a screenshot here. I can only link to an URL seems.
Another question:
Anyone updated their SSD firmware using some kind of tool?
I'm running 4 SSD's from Toshiba (THNSNJ128CGST) in RAID.
MSI does not offer a tool and Toshiba website is a forest, did not get any info how to check or frash a new firmware. -
-
Maybe, I do not know. As described in a few posts back, I am unable to upgrade to Windows 10. The writing of the upgrade files is too slow and stops eventually. Could be not related to SSD at all. But at least I could check what firmware is in use now on my drives and if there are any updates and if so, how to update it.
-
-
Here my benchmark for 4x128 GB Toshiba SSD in RAID0
-
Doubt I'll notice the difference anyway but good to know I made the right decision in buying the 2QE with no SSDs and upgrading myself -
Bad news guys, looks like all of our laptops are never going to support DX12 async shaders, which is the element that causes the massive frame rate boosts in DX12.
I'm really pissed off about this because I had to save up for four years for this computer, and it looks like it's going to be obsulete very quickly with all the shenanigans that Nvidia is pulling off.
Do you think there is any chance that I will get Async shaders for this computer? Even if I have to buy an MXM pascal card for it? (will MXM pascal be possible?) Or should I return it for false advertising, because even MSI claimed it would have full support for DX12.
This doesn't mean I am not happy with my laptop, it's an amazing machine, but if I can get a chance to get full dx12 on my two month old machine that would be awesome... -
Where did you see that the gtx9x0m wont support dx12 async shaders?

In terms of options, more = better is all I'm saying. Make it easy to upgrade if we want/need to. -
2) You can also access much more of the laptop than you can with the ASUS (you can clean and re-paste the CPU/GPU yourself - the ASUS requires a complete tear-down to do that).
3) Two year warranty.
4) G-SYNC (the G-SYNC ASUS is much more expensive for some reason)
5) Total of five storage drives (4 x M.2 + 1 x 2.5") vs two in the ASUS
6) Better wifi
Having owned both, that's off the top of my head.
I find the build quality on the ASUS to be better, not to mention the looks/styling and keyboard.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015 -
I started it again and it took again 5 hours, but now it actually finished the copy phase.
The next phases were quick as hell.
So now I have Win10 installed and see no issues.
Maybe it is related to SSD's but could also be a specific OS issue on my system. -
-
I think i've decided on the GT72 - how are these specs?
GT72 G-1423
32GB RAM
512GB SSD (2x 256GB M2) + 1TB HDD
980GTX w 8GB VRAM
Only thing I am curious about, is if this model has g-sync, does the (g) in g-1423 mean g-sync? -
And yes G is for g-sync! -

Hi all,
Lastest GT72 with core i7 5700HQ and g sync, comes with 1600MHz . Is it useful to upgrade my single 8Gb 1600Mhz stick with 2x8Gb 1866MHz ? Or is 1866MHz not supported by CPU/chipset ?
Thanks. -

http://ark.intel.com/products/87716/Intel-Core-i7-5700HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz
As you can see, "DDR3L 1600/1866 LPDDR3 1600/1866" are listed as supported memory types.
So the answer is, yes, it's supported by the processor. Replace the existing 8Gb and go with a kit of 1866MHz for best result.
Suggest to stick with Kingston or Corsair for compatibility and reliability.benben01 likes this. -

So I just got the GE72. 4 year warranty. The cpu can't even handle the new Metal Gear Solid 5 game! So upset. How do I get these new cpu upgrades from Skylake? Do I buy the new pc? Turn mine in? Exchange? What? -
