As we both stated the chipset can provide up to 4 SATA III connections. They are all used on the M.2 slots so they are all the same and the M.2 drives can work together.

On some versions of the GT70 the main bay was Gen II (back when the chipset could only provide 2 SATA III lanes and the 2x mSATA ports took them both).

Only happens in Valve Games ? And That Makes Sense ?

I've Been playing other games and have not reproduced the problem.

    It´s really strange...

ye it is, somehow, it crashes in linux too, and i think that valve games have some linux code on the games, and it randomly crashs the games, i could play like 10 hours without crashs on csgo, and then crash 4 times in 20 min

You probably will need to contact Svet at MSI forum to get a modified VBIOS from him.
Please note that a donation (beer money) is required to get the VBIOS.

    But Msi knows the problem?
Maybe if you know the existence of the problem can fix it with a new BIOS or VBIOS.

And the requested beer money is 10 euros. For what he does, and the detail and support he provides, it's well worth it.

Has he started unlocking any Skylake bioses yet?

I already talked to them twice, and they only told me to talk with the support in my county, nothing fixed.

I updated the drivers of the nvidea, and i got that crashs after suspend, and went to driver page, to get the legacy drivers, and i see a new bios, with

Descripción Update CPU Microcode Revision 13h.
Note For GT72 models with the 5th Generation Intel ® Core i7 Processor. Could it fix the problem of the cs go? some one tested?

Apart from the overall problem of CS:Go , and the extreme bleeding in the upper right corner , I have the problem with de noise of the vents, emits an annoying whistle That did not Have the 3 units of the GT72 2QD and 1 unit of Msi GT72 2QE Haswell Previously I had .

Finally I have to send it for service, slowly ,except with CS:Go, I can give the rest more or less normal use .

It 's amazing what GT72 These fail , it's my fifth unit and none of them worked 100 % if failures in the panel or another problems .

I've been having bezel problems with my MSI gt72: the bottom left corner of the bezel of my screen has been snapping off. I've already contacted MSI support about the matter. Has anyone else had this problem?

Try to use the original driver from realtek instead of the one from msi support page.
I had a similar problem with mine gt72 2qe, while using the xfi mb3 suite I couldn't use the external mic but just the internal one.

Has anyone been running the laptop display at 75hz for a long time? Do you think it would be safe to leave it at 75hz permanently or is there a significant risk?

I tested it out and I can see noticeable difference compared to stock 60hz...

    (I have the TN panel)

Well, its a barebones which are always cheaper, with only 1 year warranty compared to the stock products that offer 3 if I remember correctly.

Aside from that, some users always wanted to strip down a GT72 so you could say, you finally have a choice hahaha. 4720HQ, 8GB RAM, 980m, 1TB HDD is a good price.

The only downsides are the 4th gen CPU, but other than that, should be a good performing laptop.

Well seeing as its the cheapest 980m by a mile and I primarily use my gaming laptop as a desktop at school (I have a surface for in class stuff) I think its pretty nice upgrade from my 765m.

Hey all! Brand new notebook and gt72 pro owner here.
It was a toss up between this and an Asus g751jy. This was $500 cheaper so...haha
I love the pc so far, but I've noticed a strange faint buzzing sound coming from the right fan vent when the GPU is under load.
Ive searched the forums but have not found a definitive explanation. Could be I haven't been looking in the right places.
I'm type-A, borderline OCD, so this is something that could affect my decision to return the pc. Is this something that is fixable? Is it maybe the sound of the HDD, as I am loading my games from it?
Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not used to laptops.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Just got my hands on a new GT72S and was wondering if there is a way to completely turn off the keyboard lighting and not just dim them? Thank you. Also how do I access the BIOS at boot up? I am running Windows 10.

Kevin's right as this is stated on the user's manual.

However, I believe this control may be more like a saturation level adjustment.

    Hello community

I'm facing an issue with my GT72S, I don't like win10 , so I decided to install win8.1, the thing is that I manage to install everything beside the notebook doesn't have any drivers for win8.1 on the official page, but an awkward thing is happening, I install the realteck drivers, everything seems Ok, but I have no sound coming out; I tried different drivers, nothing, and when I try to install nahimic, gives me a 0xfffff error, and says that realtek software is not installed.

    Does somebody have any ideas?

Thank you very much in advance

Have you tried realtek drivers from older GT72 models? Nahimic has only ever been on windows 10 IIRC.

Meaker, my GT80 SLI-263 came with Windows 8.1 + Nahimic. The BIOS my GT80 came with won't support Creative Sound Blaster 2, I can only use Nahimic.

I am currently running Nahimic 1.2.3 and Realtek 6.0.1.7560 on Windows 8.1, both downloaded from MSI.

You can download Nahimic v1.2.7 and audio driver v6.0.1.7592 from MSI here.

Found in this post on MSI forum, this used to be a sticky post:

    Windows 8 / 10 Upgrade for MSI systems >
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=261600.msg1499264#msg1499264

Using the download link for 1.2.7 + .7592 above, I uninstalled my current Nahimic 1.2.3 then uninstalled .7560, rebooted, installed .7592, rebooted, installed 1.2.7, rebooted, and it is running fine on Windows 8.1. Note the About Nahimic says it runs on Windows 7 - 10.

    nahimic 1.2.7 on all Windows 7 - 10.JPG

Many of us update BIOS/EC all the time, there are risks associate with it but it's pretty rare, however no one can guarantee it 100%.
MSI has made flashing BIOS & EC pretty secure on their NBs so I can confidently to say that it is most likely to succeed.

This is a question about the GT72S Skylake. If its the wrong forum, please let me know.

How would I go about doing a clean install for the new GT72S? Does the NB come with the key? Do all the driver's work correctly? What are the list of drivers I absolutely need and the ones that are optional? Should I just download and install everything on the MSI site? Anything else I should be aware of before I pull the trigger?

The key is in the bios, so a clean install should activate. There are guides out there for doing this for all OEM installations.

The drivers are all at msi.com.

Guys, if you haven't done so already, it's a good idea to alert MSI Support that the web site support for your model has disappeared

Include the date / time when you first noticed the area missing so they can look for file modification dates around that time.

Often such drops are not noticed - someone updates a file and cuts off access to bunch of folders/dirs accidentally and the server stops access to those files.

You would be surprised how long this kind of error will go on if no one reports the problem.

The more reports the better, often www error reports are ignored until they get a few, the get so many false / newbie reports you need to get past their filters.

They will likely be just as surprised as you that such recent models have disappeared from the support site :)

has anybody whom owns the fresh new skylake gt72 checked his machine whether this updated model supports SATA gen 3 (6gbps) for the 2.5 hdd bay? and is there any existing connector for the 2nd empty 2.5 hdd bay? thanks in advance.

but I found the mainboard chip has been refreshed to cm236 rather than hm87. the new cm236 is able to support more SATA gen 3 ports. so I think msi gt72 has also got enhanced accordingly. just correct me if my assumtion is wrong.

I see, you are talking about GT72S with CM236 chipset.
The 2.5" bay has SATA III (6Gbps), but ODD is SATA II (3Gbps).

Kevin@GenTechPC, please check the new GT80's when they come in, they also have CM336 chipset, so hopefully they also have upgraded SATA III ports in their 2.5" bays :)
