I think you didn't get my point ;) I don't talk about software switching, which is corresponding to pushing the physical button once you are booted in an OS.
What I'm saying is that the screenshot from Svet modded bios is showing an option in UEFI (so before OS boot) that allows to switch GPU. So my question is, why doesn't MSI make this feature available without mod ?? The usage would be: you cold boot from a shutdown state directly into UEFI and you choose your GPU (no software at all, we haven't booted yet). My remark was that I don't see any safety issue because it actually is the process used by MSI physical button push in OS.
Instead of booting to OS, switching GPU, rebooting, we could just boot to UEFI, choose GPU, Boot.

I got the exact same warning doing exactly the same update a few weeks back.
I got scared for a second but in the end I risked it. No issues so far.

It'd be great to hear someone else's opinion as well though.

Hi guys, Im going to buy my GT72 next week, but I have a question: It's the 8gb RAM version, so is the RAM just 1 8gb stick or 2x4gb sticks, and is it installed in the easy to access spot or under the keyboard?
I'm going to install a M.2 SSD and was thinking while opening the laptop I could also upgrade the RAM to 16gb, so I'm making sure I buy the right RAM.

Check with CPU-z. Might be worth buying 2x 8GB RAM for dual channel.

Another question: since the model I'm buying does not come with an SSD, is the M.2 daughterboard included? I already have a 2.5" SSD but I was under the impression I would have to remove the original HDD to install it, since there is only one sata cable that connects to the mobo?

Hello Everyone. Just got a new MSI GT72 6QE Dominator Pro. I am getting an issue with every game, a weird black flash, seems like one frame the screen just goes black and game keeps going. I am using the latest 980M driver and GEFORCE program. It is driving me nuts, Windows 10. Can someone help?

Are you able to alt-tab out of the game? What happens if you put the computer to sleep (close the lid) and open it again?

Woah, this is an insane find! Just a question though, will this g-sync patch be updated in the future? I would like to use newer drivers for newer games like JC3.
Reverting this would be as easy as installing the latest drivers right? Or would that break your system.

Highly unlikely to be publicly updated.

Will not work with newer drivers.

I upgraded from win8 to win10 and it was removed.

    Oh wise folks, please help.

I'm aiming for the alleged possible score of 10k in 3dmark firestrike with the GTX980m.

This is my result with zero overclocking - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/9815395

This is my result with proc overclocked, gpu overclocked, ram overclocked - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/9814027

I have only 8gb of ram, will doubling this to 16gb make much of a difference to the score?

Any other hints, tips, tweaks before I get everything unlocked by svet?

    Meaker, this is your area?

    TIA.

Edit: Is there a prema mod for the 4gb 980m?

Just achieved my best score so far on fire strike !

    I think I can go a little bit higher on the GPU freq / voltage (1410 MHz @ ~1,13 V) i'll give it a try later ^^

Thats because of G-Sync. It happens if your FPS drops below 30fps in some games.

Btw. i think the GT72 6QE uses the LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1. If possible can u send me the monitor.inf or EDID data via pm?

He can unlock BIOS, EC firmware, and VGA BIOS (VBIOS).

Mine one is the 682uk model (8 gb, 128gb ssd) and it has just one stick of ram, on the dark side of the mobo, so to remove it I have to disassembly everything.
You can add 2x sticks of ram by just removing the bottom lid, as well the ssd (up to 4x m2)

If your planning to have more than 24 gb of ram you will have to disassembly the mother board to get the access to the last ram slot.

Last info, actually I'm using a kit of hyper x (2x8gb 1600 cas 9) in addiction to the original 8 gb (for a total of 24gb), the original stick is awful, 1600 cas 11, so by using all the three sticks it means have even the hyper x working at cas 11, on some heavy programs you can notice that, if you're just a gamer don't care about that :)

Well i OC my Stock Ram from 1600 to 1800mhz (Multiplier 18x, Ram Mhz to 1.00 instead of 1.33) with same SPD Timings as 1600mhz. No Issues and faster than before ;)

Guys! I have this msi gt72 2qe for almost a year now and apparently it began to shutdown randomly in between 40% ~ 55% of battery level. This weird problem began since not so much ago, for like 1 month maybe. And suddenly today it began to blink orange led light at battery's led position when I have AC adapter plugged in, at least not immediately but whenever it reaches around 69% of battery level . Does anyone know what type of problem this could be? Thanks for the help!

UPDATE** Something I forgot to mention about, about being randomly shutdown with battery level in between 40% ~ 55%, rarely goes till 18% ~ 20%, and this case is when I don't have AC adapter plugged in. Also, this blinking orange led, blinks for a while then return to normal led lighting and it repeats. Help and/or suggestions will really be appreciated :)

I do have the battery app from MSI, but whenever I try to use the app to test the battery it just wouldn't work because it shuts down when its around 40% to 55% of battery level, as in its discharging process it does not matter if the AC adapter is plugged in as it is the part of the requirement. Which in the end, I don't get any useful results since it couldn't finish the process. :( So sad to hear that my battery's dying since it has been only a year almost. Also, I was searching for the battery to order if I can but it seems like it's going to be hard to order as I'm currently living outside the US :( For the time being, there aren't any other better option than replacing the battery right?

I don't remember the terms of warranty of MSI regarding battery but in my opinion it is not normal that your battery is dead after less than one year, especially when you consider the price and positioning of these laptops (it's not because they are gaming laptop that the battery has to last for 6 months only)... I would complain to MSI for this issue (check first battery warranty conditions maybe yo can just ask for RMA).

yeah.. I'm running the laptop without the battery sadly for the time being right now, just in case to avoid any further damage it might cause too :(

Thanks for the suggestion :) and indeed it is really weird since the battery is still less than a year in terms of age, which it didn't happen to other laptops I had untill this laptop (as I have one laptop that is still running with battery up to right now since 2007 with no such problem). And sorry for the dumb question, but if I have voided the warranty sticker, I will still be able to ask for RMA? and if yes, if I were to ask for RMA, how do I ask for it? since it is first time for me doing this stuff hahaha;;; Thanks!

You should be able to ask for RMA. Register your laptop on MSI website and raise a ticket through there. Probably best to call them. Probably best to ask if they can send a replacement battery before anything else.

    Battery warranty - 1 year.
AC Adapter warranty - 6 months.
System warranty - 1 ~ 2 years depending by model.
Standard warranty covers manufacturing defect only but does not include any misuse/accidental damages except when ADC is activated.

Have you double checked the RAM's seating? We had someone on here recently that thought their equipment was dead. Turned out that the RAM was not properly seated.
