AS long as voltage output is the 19V and the physical connector itself is compatible then it's fine.
Otherwise, you have to mod the connector to make it compatible.
Additionally, the system will only use a specific amount of wattage it's being set to by design therefore you will not benefit from any additional horsepower/wattage the AC adapter provides.

    Hi@all,

i Play yesterday witcher 3. Since the last Firmwareupdate with the new Fan-Table i don't Play Heavy GPU/CPU Load Games. I was Shocked about the Temp from CPU and GPU. It was ca. 80 degrees for GPU and 76 Degrees for CPU. MSI told me that it was ok, but i'm think not. Luckely i have a Backup Download file from the 510-Version. So i decided to downgrade. Viola it's works. The Temps now never get above 70 Degress for GPU and 63 Degrees for CPU cause the Fans now turn with 3600/2200 rpm. With the other Firm the Fans Turn 3200/2000 rpm. In my opionion i prefer Cold Temps and Loud Fans not high Temps and silent Fans.

Thats what i found out. Maybe i can help someone with that.

Awesome, yeah I updated my firmware too and noticed this as well, can you upload the odl version thinggy somewhere? I would preferably get it from the MSI site but these temps suck.

Does Silent Option work in GT72? That might be more useful to control fan speeds.

    Yes it does :)

Does someone use a laptop stand cooler?
In a bulky laptop (and bulky cooling system ofc) like the gt72 will you get any improvement by using it?
Actually I have this gt72 since 9 months so I decided to repaste gpu and cpu (Sunday I should receive the gc extreme) even without a proper reason, actually my temperatures are pretty fine, never over 80s for cpu and gpu under heavy gaming (while not using the v sync) with the cooler boost off, with it on I can easily achieve 10/15 degrees less for both cpu and gpu.
So I'm curious about using a laptop cooler if it helps in a system like the gt72 to save some degrees...

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Ps: regarding to silent option, it works without problems of any sort, but it sucks about the program itself, the advanced mode is nearly useless, there aren't any information about the temperature trigger for every fan speed, just a colored bar that doesn't mean anything. More useful is the basic mode where you can change the offset for the fans, in my case +10% has a barely difference about the noise, with a gain of 1/2 degrees, a +20% offset can be annoying at idle IMHO.

Cooling pad provides more airflow to the system which can drives the temperature down a bit but don't expect anything dramatic. :)

The Problem is with Win 10 it does not work. I don't try it, because i read it in the official MSI Forum.

I decided to try the downgrade and it works.

Mabye i can try to upload the File here.

I'm on win 10 and it works flawlessly, later I will post the version I'm using (got, as I remember, from the msi forum)

Regard to the cooling pad, I was curious about know how many degrees you can gain, so if are just 2/3 (useless) or more, like 5...

I have a notepal U3, it doesn't really make a difference. What does is the fact that the back of the laptop is raised, so the fans can suck fresh air, you can gain up to 5 degrees with a good elevation (~1,5 inch / 4 cms).

I confirm that Silent option works with W10, i'm currently using it.

Have you gain 5 degrees with the u3?
Actually I'm running between 73 and 78 degrees (gpu temperature, cpus are just lower) during a long play of ryse without the fan boost (with it I can gain Ca. 8 degrees for both cpu and gpu )
I would to achieve the under 70 degrees under gaming, so I have to get one of it...

Hi guys do you think the gt72 w980m 5700hq 128gb ssd 1tb ssd is still a good purchase for 1500usd? Also given the fact that skylake is out. Comes with only a 180day end user warranty from ebay.

The ones with skylake seem to be way more expensive( no idea why) around 2.1k usd for the same config i did over at xoticpc( i think )but for that kinda cash i think the better choice would be the aw17 r3 6820hk w 980m and 4k screen for 1900ish usd. Any thoughts? Only want the msi because of the gsync and mxmgpu, is it that noticeable? Would love your unbiased opinion (but i think its kinda not possible given that i am asking gt72 owners)

Got the u3 plus, got another 5 degrees, actually while playing with the fan on auto I never reach the 70s, with the cooler booster on is impossible to go over 60 deegres.

These temperatures are with games like ryse and Crysis 3.

Gpu occed to +135/500 and cpu +200.

That's pretty impressive for a cooler. Congrats on getting those temps down! The design and material on the Notepals are really making for one of the best coolers out there.

Broadwell is still a great CPU and if you don't mind that your CPU won't overclock, it is a great value. I would definitely get it for that price. 5700 is still a very powerful CPU. I've only seen Gsync on desktops, and it seems great, specially for single GPU configs. Maybe users that have tried and used Gsync can give you more input but from my experience on desktops, it's awesome.

Thans for the input! I found this http://m.ncixus.com/products/sku/115837/1646 for 1900usd+. Is the additional 400usd justifiable for the skylake cpu and usb type c?

finally i have time to upload the File.

But be aware, you do it on your own risk. It's the official EC Firmware from the German MSI-Website.

Have fun with your new loud and cool Laptop ;-)

That really depends up to you, but 6700HQ is not worth it at all over 5700HQ. I think the 5700HQ even performs better sometimes. USB type C is on early adoption stage and will become relevant in years to come. I don't think it's worth it to dish 400dlrs for just USB type C.

Make sure to go through everything as far as stress test goes to because the warranty is probably limited on it.

Probably the broadwell one w gsync and 980m. I dont see much reason to go for the skylake variant for 400-600usd more just for the typec. So i think a refurb over at ebay will do. Might change my mind though who knows

Refurbished units can save a lot of costs but they only have 90-day warranty so make sure you fully test the system before keeping it permanently.

I think Im going to be pissed off about msi . Now the thing is i dont like NAHIMIC , but couldn't revert to Creative Cinema or at least to have the Reatek Audio Manager the drivers even old one that i had in stash dint work ...and why ? mobo BIOS. I was able to find an older bios prior to the change to NAHIMIC , and instantly Realtek Driver installed with Realtek Audio Manager got instlalled so now I have that manager back . As I use a DTS modification i dont need Creative Cinema but I do need te Realtek Audio Manager . SO why did msi do something to prevent the RTL audiomanager to be properly installed ? because of that utter stupid NAHIMIC ! ...please GET BACK what ever was don to the bios so we who dont need that NAHIMIC crap can at least have Realtek Audio Manager.

    Old news mate :)

The SB software wasn't being updated for Windows 10, and I assume MSI didn't want to get into a license again with Creative for the next generation software (SB5?)

So MSI dropped Creative SB licensing for their laptops - and MSI could no longer enable new laptops with SB in the BIOS - so they removed the SB license enablement in the BIOS.

MSI licensed Nahimic and that is what new MSI laptops have been bundled with for quite a while now.

If you have a laptop that shipped with SB on Windows 7/8.x, then I guess you can downgrade the BIOS and use SB software, but new shipments of your laptop don't support it any longer, and only support Nahimic.

Nahimic has improved greatly since my GT80 SLI-263 was released, and I like it's settings / tuning now - it is really effective and has lots of volume.

    Nahimic:1.2.12/Audio:6.0.1.7712 - latest download

I didn't like nahimic as well, and I am running the latest BIOS/EC firmware for my machine. I currently use Win10 and what I did was revert to the last working win 8.1 realtek drivers, then installed the last working version of Sound Blaster cinema, make SB run in compatibility mode and now I have my old sound power back :)

I've yet to try the newest nahimic, but as long as windows 10 does not force my audio drivers to be updated, I can live without nahimic :)

Worst comes to worst, well, I will have to learn to enjoy nahimic! :p

I've got the sb xfi mb3, it works wonderful, more settings than nahimic and the old cinema 2, and the quality is on top especially with headphones.
Only cons is the price, 30 dollars.

If you were to compare the SB software with the nahimic software, it is quite apparent that the nahimic software as it is currently is a lot lot worse in general

How does Sound Blaster X-Fi MB3 compare to the MSI SB software that no longer works? Is it the same? Better? Or? Does it work on Windows 10?

You gave a quick 'better than Nahimic', but how about some functional details?

I recommended someone try it a while back, but you are the first I have seen actually report using SB3 software :)

Here is where it can be purchased:

Here is where I thought I originally found it, but I don't see it on the list now:

Do you have SB3 installed on Windows 10, or?

I have also heard about version 5 of the software, but don't see it anywhere as a standalone product. It comes with external USB audio devices, I wonder if when installed on the laptop if would also see and support the built-in audio hardware.

    Anyone have any info?
