How to enable full RGB Keyboard on Barebones GT72 Dominator Pro MS1781 4th Gen Intel
    Tested on Windows 7 x64

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you brick your system. please follow the instructions carefully. I did not write this and it was provided by MSI to me.

    1. Make a bootable DOS USB Drive
    http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1869892/making-bootable-dos-usb-drive.html

    2. Download the attached 510.zip file and extract to the root of your bootable usb and run ecall.bat. This will flash the EC (embedded Controller) to enable full RGB. Note: You must disconnect your battery and power supply after flashing. It's a good idea to remove the bottom access panel of your laptop prior to flashing.

    3. Remove any Steelseries software and install the following:

    hi :)

i downloaded the killer lan package from msi site, installing it said it was removing older version, now my speed is not so sucky but it fluctuates wildly, from 100kb/s to 1mb/s, up and down never stable, never had this problem with win 8.1.

do you have any other suggestions?

Uninstall that crappy Killer Wireless software. That's what is most likely doing it. Obviously keep the driver installed. Just remove the Killer software.

Go to device manager click properties on your wifi driver go to advanced an see if it marked as "let windows shut down to preserve power" or something like that, mine came liked that out of the box, and almost drove me insane, the wifi would disconnect every 5-10 mins

Reinstalled my OS, and I'm having trouble with installing the Intel IGP driver. It's saying "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software."

Any ideas why this is happening?

Make sure SCM is installed and hit the GPU button to the left of the keyboard to reboot in to iGPU mode and then try installing.

Don't know if its just me, but the other day my ethernet port on my laptop just died for no reason. Thought it might be a driver issue so I just uninstalled the ethernet drivers under device manager and did a scan for hardware changes and the operating system automatically reinstalled the driver back and then it worked. However a couple of hours later it crapped out again, did the same process and with the operating system detected drivers it didn't work had to force install the drivers from the MSI webpage and that seems to do the trick. Not exactly sure why the ethernet drivers works then stops working. Is there some sort of Killer Network adapter / driver issue going on? Keep in mind I never messed with any network settings or did any drivers update.

Haven't seen any reports on this. If it continues to be unstable, you can try a utility called CompleteInternetRepair. It will reset a handful of network related settings - or at least it's supposed to (not sure of Win 10 compatibility).

    Hello there, dear Dominator colleagues!
    Directly to question.
I have GT72S 6QE Dominator Pro ( non G-sync) with GTX 980m on-board. There were many questions and suggestions about G-sync enabling in non G-sync laptops. I have rather useless question. If I replace my current IPS panel with G-sync compatible (e.g. "certified" by Ngreedia) will it work?
    Best regards to you all,
    Filipp

There is no official way to get it to work as despite being capable, your GPU revision is not certified to support g-sync on laptop integrated panel.

    Thank you for quick response!
So, if understood correctly, there is need to MXM videocard replacement?

To be more clear, i would like to make it possible to work in future, i don't care whether video card or panel would need to be replaced. )

It will probably work out cheaper to sell your current laptop and get the g-sync model.

Are you referring to the thin strip on the front edge of the laptop?

If it's an LED problem, it probably should be serviced by MSI.

    Hi guys.
Got my GT72S 6QE Dominator Pro G one month ago, and generally I am very very satisfied with it.
The only issue is: when I plug headset in, and play any music or movie, I can clearly hear the background noise, when I stopped the music/movie play (keep headset plugged), the noise would be gone.

I've seriously contacted the official technical support, updated the BIOS & audio driver (including the Nahimic utility), which was recommeded by offical support staff, but the noise never dissapeared.

My question would be: do you guys have the same issue about MSI GT72? thanks.

I also have GT72S 6QE dominator Pro G, and I couldn't hear any noise. I would suggest you to check if "listen to this device" is ticked or not, if yes then remove it.

Is there any news regarding the upgrade of "GT72S 6QE dominator Pro G" GPU to GTX980 from GTX980M. as both are using the same MXM port, this shouldn't be difficult.

The thing is GTX980 power consumption will be higher than GTX 980m, so the question is :
Will the power supply unit that came with 980m model be able to handle the more powerful GPU?
Also will there be more heat?

Maybe a shielding issue. What is the background noise like, exactly? Is it kind of like white noise?

Well I guess power supply is the same 230W for the GTX980 model, should not be a problem. Heat maybe the issue, but everything looks similar to 980M version except the MXM card for 980 is larger in size so it would probably come with a larger sink. Both 980M and 980 laptop are similar in shape and size, so I don't think heat would be a problem

Yes it's just like white noise. I am now using an attenuation audio cable, then the annoying noise is gone. So i don't know what can be a better solution other than this cable connection. this is really one of the very few things which make me to complaint about my gt72s.

If you can't find an appropriate thread, you're more than welcome to create one.

Are you convinced it's the laptop (whether the audio chip or the jack/port)? It's sounding like the cable you used was the issue.

No, it's not the issue of cable, i've used different device like shure se846, akg q460 to connect the laptop, the noise is clearly noticeable when playing music. but when i tried to use an attenuation cable to connect my laptop and earphone at both end, the noise level will be decreased significantly. I am still sure this issue is actually caused by laptop hw or sw, maybe the audio driver..tks.

You mentioned updating the driver recently. Have you tried removing that driver and running on the Windows native one? What did technical support suggest when you contacted them?

    Hi fellow GT72 users !!

For some time now I have noticed that my machine automatically wakes up from hibernation / sleep mode when the lid is closed.
I have set the energy option for the lid for both battery and cabled when closed to hibernate and also tested to go into sleep mode.

Closing the lid actually hibernates/sleeps the machine. The front lights go out and I hear the fans spin down.
But after some hours, suddenly the fans get spinning again and it seems the machine is up running again. Opening the lid immediately shows the Windows desktop.
(where it normally would first show the MSI logo and in a few secs spin up and start).

I run Windows 10 and have no other issues.

Are there any reported cases on this issue? What Windows options (or BIOS options) could be the cause I could check?

I had similar cases with windows 8.1 and windows 10, it happened randomly like once a week or once a month. You can check the cause of waking up in the event viewer of windows.
You can also go to Device manager and check for usb devices (mouses mostly). Right click and properties then untick the box "allow this device to wake up the computer" (I don't know exactly the sentence my windows is not in English).

Hello, I have a question, does anyone knows if the GT72S has some utility that allows to stop charging the battery after certain level ? (for example, 40%)
Other manufacturers have something similar (Clevo, Dell, Lenovo) but I can't find anything related on MSI.

Ah, yes indeed. I changes some "wake up" settings and now the machine keeps sleeping. Thanks for the hint.

    And now for something else.

Now HTC Vive is coming, I tested my GT72 with the SteamVR Performance Tester (available on Steam) to see how my rig performs.

    This are my specs:

    Intel Core i7-4710HQ
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 8Gb RAM (driver 362.00)
    32Gb RAM
    4x128 SSD in RAID
    1Tb HDD drive
    Windows 10 64Bit

The results are in the "VR capable" region.

    SteamVR_PerftestResults.png

I personally expected it to be higher result.

    What are your results here?
