i've downloaded the lastest steelseries engine. It doesn't even detect my keyboard. I have to use keyboard led manager to make my keyboard light works.

In that case, give them a call. Half of the staff owns MSI laptops, so they would definitely know. Take advantage of their free support that comes with the laptop.

Does the MSI GT72 2QE dominator pro have MXM 3.0 type-a or type-b? this could make a big difference for upgrading to future generations because of the memory bus width. With vram increasing, the 128bit bus width will defo be a bottleneck for future cards (pascal, polaris). A bottleneck like this is more likely than a wattage bottleneck, as the 2017 cards prove to me more power efficient.

I'm not having any issues but I found that setting was indeed set and turned it off. One thing I did turn off was all hibernation as it was causing all sorts of strange behavior. Using the high performance power management with no sleep while plugged in (I only use it plugged in).

I've only had it about a week but this machine has been outstanding. I especially like the sound. So much better than the Alienware 15r2 I have.

Today when I turned the machine on nothing happened. OK something happened, the power and GPU lights came on and the fans turned quietly in the background but nothing else. No display, nothing.

After 5 or 6 tries the MSI logo came up and it booted normally. It's been working fine ever since.

Has anyone had this issue with this machine?

Ahh sorry can't see signatures in tapatalk. Did you make any changes since you got it? Also, you can try to update the BIOS to see it it fixes it.

Could have been the firmware, in which case it's nothing to lose sleep over. If it becomes more frequent, though, then you may have a component at fault; either system is not POSTing then, or it is but there's no video signal.

I removed the 1TB HDD and replaced it with a 500GB SSD. Still booting from the original 128GB PCIE SSD. Other than that it is stock with no BIOS tweaks or changes.

Shut it down for the night as I have every night since I received it. Before it happened I had only swapped the drives as noted above (day 1), installed Steam, COH2, Battle.net, D3 & SC2 and Acronis 2016. No office. Latest nvidia drivers via Geforce experience.

It has only happened once so far but I will shutdown fully each night just to make sure all is well.

OK, it happened again but only took 3 tries to work, however, when the MSI logo appeared it disappeared quickly and some small text was briefly displayed that said something about a FW downgrade before it disappeared and Windows started loading.

    Meanwhile, in other news...

Prior to this episode I received the following from MSI tech support: "Please see if you can try clearing out the EC you will see on the underside of the laptop. Be sure to remove AC adapter and any USB device you may have connected the insert a paper clip or pin and insert. Then engage the button for 30sec and remove wait a few sec and again insert and engage button for another 30sec and remove then connect AC power and turn on."

I did not try this since I don't know what EC is nor can I see a place to insert a paperclip to reset the EC.

    Can you clarify this?

GT72 uses paper clip to perform the reset.
    Have you tried it?

Thank you, that was very helpful! I too am confused as to the differing instructions. The link you sent says to leave the laptop connected to ac power while performing this step while the tech support e-mail says to disconnect ac power. I wonder which approach is correct and whether any harm can come of performing one method rather than the other.

GT72-2QE Fan goes to max speed when idle

it happens 5 minutes after display goes off, and continues like thata every 5-7 minutes until i move the mouse or press a key to turn on the screen.
this also happens when GPU is in use, if i use the Intel graphics this wont happen at all.

What can i do to resolve this?

*I have installe MSI afterburner wich does nothing to the fan
*I have installe MSI silent option wich does not solve this
*I did no have this problem in Win 8.1 (at first yes, but i think some update corrected this), i upgraded to Win 10 and did not have this problem. I did a clean install to win 10 after that and the problem came back.

Try updating the BIOS & EC firmware first as they can usually resolve the issues.
If not, then perhaps your system may need clean-up, such as heatsink vent.

I a glad to inform that updating the VBIOS worked. I don't have the problem any more. I did not update the EC, but now my Msi gt 72 fans are no longer running at full speed when idle. Thanks for the help!

The BIOS & EC are usually released together so try that as well.
Note down the version you currently have before flashing.

I am so excited for my MSI GT72S Dominator Pro G-219 to arrive. I've been reading this forum and appreciate all the information sharing this community has to offer. If anyone has any advice for a new owner, I posted looking for some in the "MSI GT72 newbie questions" thread. Thanks.

    Hi,

I just bought the X-FI MB 3 package for 30 bucks. I installed it on my GT72 6QD Laptop which utilizes a Realtek Audio Codec. X-Fi MB is working fine with the internal speakers. However, if I plug in a headphone, it always sits at absolute maximum volume which is way too loud for the human ear and makes me afraid of damaging my headphones.

Even if I set the volume level to 100% in both the virtual X-FI MB and the actual Realtek device, the problem persists.

Since I bought the X-Fi MB 3 only for the headphone surround effects, this renders my pruchase useless.

It does, but it is not suited for music listening. Right now I am using Nahimic for music listening from the headphones und the internal speakers, X-Fi MB for external speakers and Razer for gaming with headphones. That kinda sucks.

I was assuming you only ran one of those. You might be getting a conflict of you have all three installed at the same time. Also, for music, you shouldn't need more than nahimic, no?

@ColinMacLaren - Have you been able/tried updating your audio driver? If you're using the stock one from MSI, you might be able to install a newer version by going to your Device Manager, pulling up the Realtek HD Audio device, right click and select "Update driver."

Im getting nuts with my core temps, already repasted and repaded, are this diference between cores normal?
Already tried to stress test only 1 core, for each core, the diference becomes only 6/7ºc.
the first days after each repaste, de max diference between is about 6/7ºc, but after a week of so it keep rising, time to test a new paste? [IMG]

Im using mx-4, with my custom cooler, 5v, normal vents, max temps on cpu and gpu get to 67/68, max fans on both it drops to low/mid 50s, usually what makes the cupu report 67ºc are the core 3 temps, the others are usually 3/4 graus behind.
