Hi i own a Msi Gt72 2qe, it runs every game , but since a month or so, Call of Duty BO 2 stopped working, i did everythung, even reinstalled windows and re downloaded all COD games. Nothing has worked.

so, i figured out, after one month of pain in te a**.
Nahimic Software (sound program) installed in mi MSI is the cause. I shut down Nahimic and play fine, lauch Nahimic and my game crashes or wont start.
This is just a message so you people know if someone is in the same situation as me, Nahimic is responsible for this.

    Hi guys,

I just got my new GT72S 6QE Dom. Pro G, what a beasty laptop ... and incredibly silent, in fact, a bit too much and the GPU temps often rise above 80°C (when overclocked of course). Therefore I'd like to increase the GPU fan speed a bit, but Silent Option doesn't work on this machine ; Is there any other software I could use ?

What does this software do? I haven't changed much from stock and haven't had any software issues. I don't play COD so perhaps its not an issue.

Nahimic enhances audio for the system. It can help create virtual surround, add bass/treble to sound, make it a bit louder per level etc. Personally I loved Sound Blaster much more than nahimic (in my machine we didn't have nahimic initially).

You can try putting some music and then open/close nahimic so you can hear the difference. If you have high quality headset/headphones, you might be fine without nahimic at all.

I'm currently running my gt72 6qd with the factory / xoticpc install. I noticed once in a while it won't let me close or select anything inside a specific application until I force close it. I know I can probably just format the laptop from scratch but was wondering what causes that.

Edit: was wondering if that's common and if there's a quick fix. Thanks!

It's going to hard to determine even if we play with it to determine the root cause.
Try reducing the amount of applications running at start-up, additionally you can run something like combofix as well as CCleaner to clean up the system.
Finally, if none of the above helps, then do a factory reset for best result.

So I'm experiencing high temperature on CPU since the AC/bios update like someone before me. My question is how do I rollback these updates to check if that's the problem. I need to find the previous bios and AC manually or there is a procedure which automatically rollback. Already ordered the pads and paste for repairing if rollback won't help

You'll need to find the files required to reflash the system to a previous version. I don't recall any "undo" feature.

Do you remember your previous version? If not then just roll back to the version before your current version.

Hey guys, New guy here. I got myself a 'base' model GT72 Dominator 6QD 019. It has a 1tb mechanical hdd, and 16gb of ram. I want to buy some SSDs, and later on addition ram. What I am here for now...

I've used the Crucial.com advisor tool to try and find my SSD's with no success. The tool lists 2 different GT72 Dominators. One is listed as the GT72 6QD Dominator, which is true to what I have, the other listing is the GT72 6QD Dominator 019, which is also true to what I have. Both selections yield different search results. The box label reads the following numbers/descriptions
    market name:GT72 6QD Dominator-019US
    Product Sku bb7682k16g1t0s10mh
    Model 9s7-178211-019

I've never had SSD's before, so I really dont know what I'm looking for aside from the m.2 form factor. Also, I see conflicting reports, I haven't opened the case yet on this thing...Some say it has 2 SSD slots, some say it has 4. Any confirmation? Also, my friend said RAID 0 is iffy, if a single drive dies, I lose it all. Can the GT72 be setup for other raid types? Is that done within the bios somehow?

Depends on your model whether you have 2 or 4 M2 connectors.
RAID 0 is great for performance.
SSD drives are much more reliable these days. Just remember to back up/take image regularly.

@MachOneFPV - Your model should have one SATA port (for 2.5" drives) and two m.2 ports (one NVMe, or two mSATA). It's better to lean on the OEM's product information page than Crucial's advisory tool (nothing against Crucial).

I was looking at the gt72s dominator pro-220 and is my understanding correct that there's not much overclock potential on the 980m because of the 230w adapter?

I am only planning on gaming at 1080p on the laptop (I have a desktop for when I want to do 1440p or ultrawide gaming) and I was trying to decide between whether to go for a full 980 laptop card in either the MSI or Clevo models (understanding that the Clevo model uses the 200w model so is probably higher performing) or whether the 980m with a g-sync would reasonably be enough. Obviously, having a 980m that could be slightly overclocked would be a benefit.

Games I typically play would be Battlefield 4, FF XIV, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Civilization V and the like.

Jzyftw, you have probably already seen this but MSI just released a new version of their "Silent Option" App that works for Skylake/Windows 10 machines. Link is https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=255972.0

How have your GPU temps been since? I was contemplating messaging Svet for the unlocked bios but was curious as to how it worked for you and the FPS difference that you saw since we have the exact machines.

    Thanks!

So I purchased a gang book 4 skx-17 from cyberpowerpc and am so far pretty happy with it. It is built off of the GT72 dominator PRO G.
    6820hk
    980M 8gb
    24gb ddr4 2133
    2 256GB SSDs
Only thing I am noticing that is gimped is only one of the 2 msata ports work, looks like BIOS disabled. Might look into that.

Otherwise it feels like a much better buy than my Alienware.. temps are just amazing on this guy. Never over 65 deg C and I don't even turn on max fans.

Quick question, I am going to unlock the vBIOS and have read PREMA work on these, which one did you guys flash? There are 2 980m 8gb Gsync models. Or do you allcontact Sven and get it from him?

    Thanks

Yes, the GT72 does have pretty good cooling, among other strong points.

Prema and Svet both do pretty good work with custom BIOS's. Maybe see what both have to offer and see which might be more of what you are looking for, if there are any differences.

I don't notice Svet around these parts. You may need to head over to techinferno to touch base with him. Both svet and Prema are good at what they do.

I'm also joining the club. i got one from ibuypower for ~$2200 [desktop 980 8gb, 16g gskill 2400, 120 ssd/1tb hdd]. i figure i can change the hd later if i want

    Just a few questions
do i use the nvidia desktop drivers for this or the mobile ones when i go to update gpu drivers?
does it use the battery even if im plugged in but using a lot of power [i want to be able to stream starcraft 2, league, and the batman series]?

Got my open box 980 mobile desktop version in yesterday (about $500 off retail)

The unit overall seems pretty good overall, but I think it my 980 GPU is below average.

It's benchmarking about 350-400 points in GPU score below what I have seen in reviews (~12900 vs ~13300 in Firestrike Graphics score). That seemed like a pretty high difference to me.

Still considering whether or not to keep it or return it and go the Sager/Clevo route.

So here are a sample of the Firestrike results (all with the current 365.19 drivers):

    1. Stock GPU but CPU in Sport Mode (x37):

    Firestrike -- 10969
    Graphics -- 12885

    2. GPU (OC 100/100) -- SportMode (x37)

    Firestrike -- 11419
    Graphics -- 13509

    3. GPU (OC 135/135) -- Sport Mode (x37)

    Firestrike 11628
    Graphics -- 13787

    4. GPU (OC 180/80) -- Sport Mode (x37)

    Fire Strike -- 11763
    Graphics -- 14016

Did a second run at these settings which had a FS Score of 11718 and Graphics of 13950

No real stress test at these settings yet but Max GPU is 72 and quickly went back down into the 60s

Do these scores look normal or should they be significant higher than this? The Stock score just seems so long compared to what is on notebookcheck.com and their reviews of laptops with the 980

What's considered too hot for the 980 mobile gpus? I have been running benchmarks with clocks set at 1408/3590 and temps are around 73 degrees Celsius. Should 75 degrees Celsius be my target cutoff?

Oddly, I will note that when running benchmarks like Uniengine Valley and Heaven, there doesn't seem to be much temperature difference running at stock or overclocked. Perhaps 1 or 2 degrees maximum (and this is after running benchmarks for 90+ minutes).

[Update] I ran Heaven and Valley for an hour each in a row last night, and GPU stayed at about 73/74 peak during that run...never went past 74 but generally never went below 70 either.

Clock speeds didn't seem to make much different in GPU temps...stock ran about 73 and overclocked at various speeds was also 73 or 74 max. Performance boost overclocked (180/90) was about 8 to 10 percent.

Yo guys. Im glad to announce that after 3 months of research(and stalking this thread), I have joined the Dominator G club finally!(Wooo)

I should expect it to arrive in a week or so, but before it arrives i need to get a backpack for it, urgently.
    Which would you recommend?

My budget is £56/$80 and less. I will be studying at a city university and be traveling by bicycle a lot so i need something to keep this 4Kg beast safe. Any small scratch will make me shed tears as i've literally dished out ALL my money on this

I've seen the Wenger Ibex 17" which looks really sturdy and has the best quality out there but to my disappointment, a search in the review section says that it doesn't fit the GT72.
I've also seen the Targus XL 17" which fits the beast nicely (reviewer uploaded a picture) but apparently the quality isnt good as it used to be 5 years ago.
I've also seen Everki but oh my, i have no money for it.

Hope i get a response before 27th may because that's when i'll be leaving the UK and wont have a chance to use Amazon without splurging on shipping fees.

Hope you guys have some great suggestions to protect my investment.
    Cheers!

At NVidia's site, you would be using the 900M (Notebooks) category, and then select "980."

Nope, the battery should only drain from 100% to 95% (done to prevent "over charging" it) while you're plugged in, and then back up to 100%.

I've got the Targus XL 17" and the GT72 only just fits in the large compartment bit not in the sleeve section of the large part. I got mine for a tenner so I live with it. Choose something that will fit better if you can.

Ah that's the thing, the Targus XL is £55 and i dont know if it's worth getting it for that price.

^That is the GT72 inside the Targus XL (Courtesy of Mr. Amazon reviewer). Which compartment is that?

I have a week left so if anyone uses a backpack that fits the GT72 for that budget, do let me know :)
