@Paul Ryan you can downgrade the EC without problem.
I have done it a few months ago, just remember to reset it after flash by hold pressed the tiny button on the bottom of the laptop.

Word on the street says that the Pascal GPU's are so efficient, they will be dropping the dumbed down 'M' versions. So we may get a 1070/1080 without M but with altered voltages.
Then again these are just rumors so sadly we will have to play the waiting game. IMO that would be pretty sick if Nvidia can pull that off. Closing the gap would be awesome :D

MSI will build Pascal upgrade MXM's that fit the power and cooling profile of the 980m's/970m's, and probably the 980 mobile desktop too.

There is no way to put a 180w 1080 into a 100w 980m slot, so there will be some performance lost between the 1080 desktop and the 1080 mobile MXM, but it will blow away whatever MXM it replaces.

We will have a good while to wait :)

aight so i have an issue. nahimic 2.2.7 doesnt want to work with my laptop [6qf]. if i open it, it shows volume at 0%, adjusting volume causes it to crash. i have tried reinstalling it, nothing. ran as admin, nope. are there any services that run with nahimic because i don't see any services with nahimic on it.

outside of that, all audio works fine. but i like how nahimic can cancel a lot of the background noise of my built in mic. that's the only reason i use it and its really annoying now that it stopped working. i do have errors in windows event logs i can post.

before I install Nvidia 359.06 driver and Intel 10.18.15.4281 VGA driver, any feedback issue with these?

When installing GPU drivers its adviced by MSI to follow this order:
Nvidia 1st, SCM next then Intel VGA last...correct?

There are 2 IRST (Intel Rapid Storage technology) drivers available in the official page:
    1. IRST F6 install floppy
    2. IRST Intel mobile express chipset

How do I know which one I install?
    I have the GT72s 6QE

I have the exact same problem. However, I do not have the correct non-gsyncBios. Could someone please direct me to where I can find it?

You cannot just flash the gsync vbios over the standard vbios. You need to be running win 8/8.1, older drivers and g-tools app. See page ~268 (not sure on phone atm).

Well after 15 months of sometimes charging sometimes not. I finally sent my 2qe Dragon Edition back to MSI for repair. Has anyone else had this type of issue. I have not seen it on the forums. The charger was fine, it was the laptop that couldn't get any juice. Also, does anyone know the average turn around time on a laptop from the RMA dept?

I've had to send a couple back for service. Once they receive it they usually turn it around in 2 days. It's in California so 4 days each way if you're on the east coast.

    Check this link: https://de.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT72-6QD-Dominator.html#down-firmware

If you havn't enabled Remote desktop yet simply push the button to change to the internal GPU, slightly mouve the mouse cursor to the loer right and start clicking until you hit the ok button. Alternatively you could put the hdd into antoher pc and set up remote desktop there or make a bootable DOS USB-stick that starts NVflash from autostart.bat.

What are the benefits of being able to switch from gtx 980m to integrated graphics? Coz im planning of just updating the nvidia drivers and not fiddle with switching to integrated graphics anyway. Any thoughts on this guys?

I havent updated any drivers yet...Using the update order that MSI suggested on its website (chipset first then vga drivers...) is it safe to just update components that you like to update? I have no plans on updating the chipset so I plan on skipping that for now same with vga drivers. The only thing im seeing that has some issues is Sound drivers. So in essence ill be skipping most drivers and just updating Nahimic and realtek for now

Switching to iGP is useful for when you're going to be away from your charger, as it extends battery life.

What's the rush? I'd install everything.

    Thanks for this @Kevin : )

Did you update everything in your NB? how about bios?
Im worried in installing other updates for other things like chipset, VGA and IRST (not sure which one to install because are two on the MSI page...something about F6 install floppy) because I read several posts that say after they installed chipset drivers in messed up their NB...when they installed vga drivers all of a sudden they cant switch back to the gtx 980m...Since this is my 1st gaming laptop I dont want to mess things up. Any advice?

Oh, I thought you were in the midst of a clean install. Derp.

I have a policy: don't update anything that isn't having an issue, unless it brings a new feature.

If you have at least installed the default drivers off of the CD, you're fine.

    Same policy here : )
Haven't installed anything yet...So far only Nahimic is having issues ( profile would change to music, but I can change to gaming and movie) so that the only thing I plan on updating as of now. Are there critical drivers that is a MUST to update? Chipset?
How do I know which IRST driver?

Switching to iGPU for me changes all my game settings to lower dumbed down settings. Any way to prevent this? After hours of experimenting with GTA V to get optimal graphics, I decided to switch to iGPU for extended battery life (Which it does well) But when i switched back to Nvidia, I noticed all my game settings were changed to "normal" and "off." Not only for GTA but all my other games, any insight on this? iGPU is a feature i would use as im not always gaming on the laptop but i don't want it overriding my game settings which would be a pain to set all over again

EDIT: So i switched to iGPU and started exploring the Intel HD control panel and started disabling all the "Optimize 3D settings" and whatever related stuffs, I think that seems to have fixed it hopefully.

Gsync is Important For me so I need to make sure its there. I have sent an email to customer service but no answer

For the screen it only says IPS. No mention for gsync

Yo guys, so I noticed the USB port right next to the line out port has a Fast Charging symbol of some sort (As pictured)
[IMG] (A bit too close up)
Any idea on how i can enable the fast charging capabilities?

I have an HTC One M8 ( @AngryPeanut twinning with the same phone and backpack lmao) and upon plugging it into the port, it gives me the "Slow Charging" notification

I haven't had a good experience charging anything on a laptop. I personally don't recommend it. I already managed to kill a power supply on a dell laptop from charging too many things at once.

According to the Official GT72s page the proper order of updating VGA drivers would be: Nvidia then SCM then Intel VGA. Do we need to do this each and every time we update VGA drivers?

Fast charging needs Super Charger app, downloadable on MSI website.
Regarding installation order, it doesn't matter that much, no you don't need to do this each time you install Nvidia or Intel or SCM.

Question for you guys. I noticed something odd on my 6QF. After a few hours of WoW, I sign out and I see my battery is at 78% I didn't have any power spikes that I noticed, is that normal? Is it possible I could end up going to 0% and shutting down? Like... was I using battery even though I was plugged into the outlet?

As long as you're on AC, it shouldn't dip below 95%. It could be a faulty adapter; do you notice your game's FPS drop intermittently?

No, you can update over existing drivers/applications. Same goes for your previous post about the order of drivers; that applies to initial installation, much like how the chipset driver should always be installed first on a clean Windows install.

I am on AC. I'm trying it today and after about an hour of WoW + a stream going I'm at 83%. Should I contact Ibuypower asap?

Also my bios is E1783IMS.114 2016/01/28
MSI's site says latest bios is E1783IMS.114 dated 2016-04-01

Should I update bios or do I have the right version already?

    A question about MSi warranty.

All their laptops have the "void if remove" label on the bottom of the laptop, and to access RAM or HDD you need to remove the label.

How does MSi itself honor the warranty, and how does the reseller honor the warranty if that sticker is removed?

I know that Gentech doesn't honor their warranty after the seal has been removed, they don't trust their customers.

    Thanks in advance.

On the post for "questions for an MSI Rep" thread, MSI Geno said this:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-questions-for-the-msi-rep.761676/page-107

You may want to check with various sellers, as they may have different policies on warranty once that has been opened. I know with us, MSI's warranty is still valid, and we cover the warranty on the parts that we upgrade. You would probably just want to double check with whoever you are purchasing it through.

    Guys, any cleaning tips?
I get really frustrated by the fingerprints on the metal lid and the body :D

Should i be using rubbing alcohol on the metal surfaces? How do you guys normally clean your Dominator?
