I removed it because it looks so pretty, but it's a fingerprint magnet!

Use the micro fiber cloth that you use to clean your glasses. Works well usually.

One more question related to audio UI

Is there any way i can remember my option whenever i plug my headphones into the laptop?

And when changing the volume, how do I get the volume slider on top of whatever game im playing?
I noticed that when i change my volume in game, the slider doesnt appear on top of the game unlike other computers i've owned with Win10
Any tricks on getting it to appear on top?

[IMG] hard to capture it being solid on Gyazo

    Cheers!

For the slider, I always run my games in Windowed Borderless mode so I can alt tab faster and be able to see all that UI info

Did the slider bar behave the same way on the same game?

The volume adjustments work fine while in game, the only issue i have is that it doesnt pop up on a full screen game which seemed odd to me

This has always been like that for me. It only seems to overlay on windowed games. Full screen browser stuff like YouTube works fine but full screen games the volume keys work but no graphical representation of the actual volume controls.

I understand, is it possible that the game has higher priority than the slider bar thus why it's not showing? What about the same game on a different machine but with the same OS?

I tried it on three different games on AW and MSI gaming systems running Windows 10, same result.

Thank you for your verification, so this is consistent on most of the games then, correct? And there are titles with exceptions too.

    Company of Heroes
    Company of Heroes 2
    Diablo 3
    Heroes of the Storm

    No audio slider overlay

    Skylines cities

    Audio overlay works

So yes I'd say there are exceptions.

Right, the volume slider seems absent on most games. There may be a registry value that will "fix" this (there's one for changing the OSD appearance), but I haven't come across it yet.

So far the slider only works on Rust but for the rest of the games it doesnt. On my gaming desktop, the slider works on every game.
The desktop runs Windows 10 64bit but it was originally a Windows 7 OS which got upgraded. Idk if that's the reason but i should research online if there's a way to make it overlay on every game

Is it possible to use this laptop without the Nvidia card?

Let me be more clear: If the 980M failed, is it possible to take it out and use only the intel onboard video?

Yes you should be able to use it with Intel gpu only. Just switch using the gpu switch button and reboot.

Yes but if you can't boot on the Nvidia GPU, then you can't switch to Intel because you won't see anything ! we asked so many time to include the switch in the bios, at boot, in addition to "in windows switch", I dunno if it was implemented or not...

It's a physical button which is even better to switch graphics so you don't need BIOS option to do that.
And each switching requires a power cycle.

But does that work if the nvidia card has failed? Will the computer even work on the Intel GPU if the nVidia GPU has failed?

I think that was the original question.

How to clean the monitor of the GT72? I've had my notebook for a year now and I use a microfiber cloth to get the dust and specs off. But I notice, even wiping gently that there seems to be some foggy oil? greasy? coating that moves around and streaks. I've never used a cleaner on it, but using various extra soft cleaning cloths don't seem to take it off, just make it more streaky. I'm not happy about this. I guess there's some layer of film on there to make it matte, but I think it's also reducing clarity since it can't be cleaned properly. Haven't had this issue on other monitors.

I got the GT72s with 980m. It came with the .108 Bios, so no 75hz-display :(
I just succesfully updated to newest .114-Bios and it doesnt boot anymore!
It is stuck in the MSI-Logo and nothing happens.
I can get to Bios and it shows .114-version.

    me again. Quick question:

    I ordered the Samsung SM951-NVME M.2 SSD.
My GT72s came with preinstalled win10 on 1TB HDD, which is very slow.

--> What is the easiest way to install Win10 on this SSD?
Dont have any DVD, just the recovery image on HDD?

    Never done this before.

    thx :)

Usually I just clone the HDD to the ssd. However Acronis doesn't support cloning to NVM drives so I did a full backup to an external HDD and the restored to the ssd. Then went into the BIOS and selected the ssd as the boot drive.

I believe there are others who have experience with some free cloning software that may work but since I own Acronis and am familiar with it I stuck with it.

I'm just not a fan of fresh installs especially since I usually have the system setup just how I like before upgrading. Cloning or restoration is much easier.

Guys my battery is at 95% plugged in and not charging. I know this happens in order to not let the battery keep charging after full charge but what is weird to me is that the laptop never really did this behavior consistently. For example sometimes it just says 100% fully charged.

    Is this normal?

Oh glad to hear I'm not alone :p

Furthermore, another general question, I have a total of 4 m.2 slots and one 1TB HDD. 2 are occupied by NVMe drives and the other 2 are empty.

My question is, can I install an additional 2 m.2 SATA drives and keep my 2 NVMe's as well as my 2.5 occupied?

    Thanks :)

EDIT : Also, does anyone know how the linkup with the Razer core is with this model?
Or can anyone guess how the GTX 980 desktop model would fare with a razer core connection?

HAVE ANNOYING PROBLEM with my GT72s (980m), pls help

I get every 20-60sec microstutter in almost every game.
The game "jumps"/freezes a tiny bit, I cant say if internetconnection laggs or its a framedrop or something going on in the background, hard to tell.

    What I tried so far:
newest driver, GSYNC on/off, windowed mode/fullscreen, check temps (all OK),
check Clocks (all ok), play in sportmode, comfortmode, green mode..
    WLAN quality always >90%

    Deactivated DiagnosticsPolicy (http://windowsreport.com/stutter-games-diagnostics-policy-service/)
    low details/high details.

I am going crazy, playing league of legends and its unplayable.
here is a short video of what I mean ( ), look closely and see the "laggs"

    pls help me :)

    edit: newest Bios/EC firmware too

Did this behavior start recently or has it always been like that?
Try reducing settings to see if the FPS is the issue here. It could also be an internet issue since WLAN isn't that reliable.

hi, i just got my gt72s last week, did clean install and buildin new SSD.
I updated the chipset driver and install then vga driver (read somewhere that MSI recommends first chipset and second vga driver) seems to solve the problem... until now

But crysis 3 crashes every second time.
    Battlefront crashes right at beginning.

-->What nvidia driver do u use? Have the 4GB 980M version. Whats the most stable 4 u guys?
I have the newest one which is on MSI support website

So, thanks to Amazon Prime Day I am back with GT72S-219 after selling my GT72-2QE.
Can't wait to get it. I know GPU-wise there is no improvement but the new laptop will come with i7-6820K, DDR4 and G-Sync which were missing from the previous one.
    Hope it runs well.

Will be picking up a GT72 for test this month, a few question.

    1. Will iGPU mode work with the MXM GPU installed?
    2. Will computer boot with only charger plugged in and battery cable removed?

So my key caps feel a bit oily because of the gaming sessions i have (My fingers tend to sweat).
Do you guys think it's a good idea to clean the keyboard with isopropyle alcohol? I heard that cleaning keyboards with alcohol is safe as it evaporates before it has time to get underneath the keys. I dont know if the alcohol would affect the silver lining print on the keyboard

Alcohol can be used but not recommended as it's corrosive, as AngryPeanut mentioned, try soft cloth with little bit of water instead. The same can be used for the screen.
