There is a button to turn the screen off on GT72VR where the GPU switching was on GT72.

    GT72 6QE and GT72 6QD are using both HM170 chipset.

There are not enough PCIe lanes available, so MSI has choosen to (physically) cut off PCIe 2 on the M.2 adapter.
I have one of the first GT72 6QD in Europe, and ironically, my M.2 adapter has two PCIe M.2 ports. GT72S is using CM236 chipset, therefore the M.2 adapter always has the second PCIe port physically.

In order to use PCIe RAID, you have to buy the GT72S. There is no chance of getting PCIe RAID functional on the normal GT72 (exept of SATA RAID).

Thank you for pointing it out.
I was hoping that I can do 4x SSD in raid since the laptop itself has "PCI-E Gen.3 SSD (Ready)" sticker on it and the site was saying:

    • NVMe M.2 SSD by PCIe Gen3 X4 up to 2200MB/s speed(optional)
But I can still use that PCI-E 1 slot if I remove the sticky tape, right?

Overall you can use two SATA 3 and one PCIe (NVMe) SSD, so yes, you can use it.

But don't remove the sticky tape, that's a thermal pad. Your new PCIe SSD would be thankful ;)

Keep in mind that PCIe SSDs are getting noticeably hotter and cost much more money. You will not really feel a boost in performance, except of benchmarks.

But i understand if you want one, because to have one :D

Buying a daughterboard off ebay for the GT72VR wouldn't work. I was studying the mobo of the GT72S and the GT72VR. The daughterboard with the additional ssd ports requires an additional power connector which sadly MSI dropped with the GT72VR

Ah, no. Just bought 2x M.2 SSD 128gb each and made a RAID 0 array. The speed that it gives me is more than enough for my needs :)

If you remove back cover to access, for example, to RAM, warranty is void?

No. MSI reps have said as long as you cause no damage, upgrading components is fine.

Is the GTX 1060 really comparable to the Gtx 980m?
I've heard that it's comparable with the 970m and the 1070 with the 980m.

Anyways, for those who can't decide between the GT72S and the GT72VR. Personal opinion: Go with the GT72S and down the line save up for the Pascal upgrade kit (if it is officially available). The GT72S would be a bang for its buck because if ssd upgradeability and thunderbolt 3(graphics dock capable fornthe future).

Any idea if the new Dragon Gaming application will be coming for all of us here who use the GT72?

Would love to use the mobile as a system monitor while gaming, got the app installed already on the phone

This model, GT72VR 6RE-096XES Dominator Pro, HAS GSYNC, 75hz refresh.

Yes, but I asked directly to MSI global. The first told me that it has 120hz and Gsync. That's not true, it has 75hz.
I also asked to MSI Spain. They told me it didnt have Gsync and only 60hz.

   .

    Better not to ask them.

It was pretty confusing because of 1 character difference between GT72VR & GT73VR.

    Submitted my form already.

Will be interesting to see if the "trade in" isn't a rip off.

In all honestly, I'll just sit on this machine for a couple more years, especially if this program costs much more than $1k.

I guess it's official then. We can't upgrade our existing GT72 without trading them in. I have to admit I'm a bit surprised considering the fact that my GT72 was just released earlier this year. Its the only reason I bought this specific model.

I have sent this to MSI Support:

    Hi,

Please can you provide information on when the GPU Upgrade Kit will become available for my notebook?
MSI USA has announced an official trade in program for GT72/GT80 users.

    Please see details here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ents-and-all-things-msi.795144/#post-10326272

Will MSI UK offer similar solution to UK MSI GT72/GT72S/GT80 owners?
I have purchased MSI GT72S 29th Anniversary edition based on upgradeability claim.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards

Wondering what they reply will be...

I will be more direct, asking 'what' they are going to do for UK based GT series notebook owners.

Here's a link to a UK MSI rep stating it will be possible to upgrade the GTX9** cards in MSI notebooks: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=278934

I have asked MSI iberia myself and they said 60hz, no gsync. My brother called them and they said 120hz gsync. My bet would be that they really dont know what they have.

    Have you bought it yourself?

It sums up that MSI call center agent doesn't know what they are talking about, and that MSI maliciously advertised upgrade for GT72 9xxM models (4th and 5th gen I7) whereas they didn't have a clue at that time whether or not we would be able to upgrade the MXM module to 10xxM... Pure commercial advertising with absolutely no guarantee. They will just tell that it's Nvidia manufacturing decision that prevent upgrade and they will screw us !

Just installed it and it's great. Thanks a lot!
However, the mobile phone connection doesnt seem to work for me :/ and also i cannot control my fans through this app.
    Any tips for this?

Also, does anyone know how to reconfigure the P1 button "Fn F4"? After installing the new Dragon gaming center, pressing this button does nothing. Im so used to pressing P1 to have a quick look at temps

If enabling the connection is not enough through the DC Mobile Center, try to enter IP in your mobile app then press connect through DC Im using Android for that . I did play with the fans from the fan advanced menu and it works , dont know why you have this issue .

So my uncle bought my GT72S last July 2016 at USA but had it imported to the Philippines since electronics are really expensive here.

It came with a bag, pillow, and mini bricks lucky dragon. The bag is the issue though, it is not the MSI Hermes bag but it is MSI GT Gaming Backpack. I think the bag model is fairly new but the shoulder straps has a flaw.

They are ripping out pretty easily and I haven't even over loaded this thing. Also, when you look at the strap, they seem very small and the shoulder and really looks like it won't hold up. I wish they just gave me the MSI Hermes bag, that seems more capable of carrying this big laptop.

Is there anything I can do regarding this issue? Maybe have them replace / fix it? Does the warranty cover the bag or just the laptop?

MSI GT Gaming Backpack (Straps look really small and I'm not sure if its double threaded)

MSI Hermes Backpack (seems really stronger overall, not to mention better looking)

On the side note, curious also regarding the trade in program. Am I eligible still to apply to for it? Are there any guidelines for my case? (Bought in USA but I am not in USA) Really is a bummer, I was hooked with the MXM upgradable marketing since with that I have time. Now it seems like time really is not on our side with this trade in program.

    Thanks for any advice

The bags they normally give arent really the best. it's more foa freebie so i doubt they would cover the damage for wear & tear. When i was looking for a backpack i was considering an MSI backpack but read a lot that they're not worth the price. The Alienware bags are really good or the one I have. Solo ACV700
